You're honestly the only celebrity I know of that is as down-to-earth and relatable as you are. For what it's worth, I loved the trailer, but I enjoyed your trailer comments video far more because of the chill vibe and interesting facts. In the ocean of modern sensationalism, your UA-cam channel is a wonderful island of sensibility and honesty. Thanks for all your hard work!
Agreed!! This video makes me 1000x times look more forward to Shazam Fury of the Gods than any trailer could because I know there's an actual person with a heart of gold directing it and an amazing partner supporting him (and perhaps offering creative input wherever needed!!)
He did an interview with Ryan conolloy a whoile back and he regreted not hacing his wife and a producer for anabelle Creation (Ithink or it was for Light's out. I can;t remember). Lotta is also an actress with 19 acting credits to her name along with a few more for producing, writting and so on so forth.
Can't wait to hear the making-of stories for Shazam 2. That bag solution for the mall scene in the first one is implanted in my brain as peak film-making resourcefulness. Also that IMDB bag was hilariously whelming.
Yeah that video sticks in my head every time I see anything about Shazam, I'd love to see more videos of him talking about what challenges and problem solving he had to do during this film. Just like the cape not being CGI'd in for the trailer.
As a fellow introvert, I felt EXHAUSTED just watching you go through all that. It's amazing how Zachary Levi was still bopping along while you looked like you would be fine just sitting in a lounge chair somewhere for a bit.
Levi's just built that way. That's why he's able to play characters that are usually energetic, but empathetic man children like he did in Chuck and now in Shazam and sustain that energy for 12 hour day shoots. He feeds off of the whole thing. The chaos energizes him whereas it drains someone like David. Interesting how people can be so different. That said, I'm sure Levi has his moments of exhaustion. Everybody does at some point.
Its called cocaine, its as easily accessible as tea or coffee in LA my friend. It gives like a strong caffeine kick, nothing more nothing less, strong though.
Kind of shocking to see how much of an assembly line this all is. And huge respect to everyone involved always on their A Game and how fast everything comes out
"how I would be perceived" Well for what it's worth to you, David, and anyone reading this comment, I met David and his wife Lotta at Comic Con and my 'perception' of them is excellent. They were both really kind, took a picture and briefly chatted with me before they got on with their evening. I think they handled the event like total professionals and I'm really looking forward to all the upcoming projects David and Lotta will be releasing next! 😁
I've always found Americans way more naturally outgoing and energetic than what I'm used to across the pond, which is something I admire about them. What helped a lot for me at least was taking theater improv classes with actors-- once you start doing that and you perform for audiences, you get used to it in everyday situations as well. It also helps you write for actors as well.
Yes! I was introduced to improv theater by my high school drama teacher and I *absolutely* consider it a real life skill that helps me on a daily basis. When you're an introvert, every conversation can start to feel like a performance after a while, so knowing how to perform well is super useful.
As an American, I've always found my fellow Americans to be generally real loudmouths, and I've always gravitated towards a more British mindset...I guess it's a case of that whole "grass is always greener over there" syndrome.
Though you admittedly often look like the least hyper person on stage, the moment you open your mouth to speak the passion and pride in your work is beyond obvious. I love that you can make these videos and talk more about things that went wrong with the filmmaking process and how you overcame them cause your pride in the problem solving shows even more that you think you made a good product than if you tried to say it was perfect from the very beginning. Also thank you so much for being so open about your experience and really living as an example of how you can be nervous, anxious, exhausted and overwhelmed as a professional artist but you can't let it stop you from being excited to go do something new and incredible. I think a lot of us need to see someone like you making it while being honest about what you still deal with as an introvert so we know it's possible for us too, it's okay to feel that way but it doesn't make all our fears and anxieties so true that we should never try.
In all fairness, watching these clips I would very much say it's case of everyone around him being super hyper rather than him coming off as drained or boring or anything.
That's my IGN mic at 6:44! I interviewed you that day on the Shazam carpet and just want to say again, thanks for your time. I got to thank Lotta that day, but your videos and tutorials were a huge inspiration to my fiancee and I as we were making our new horror short in lockdown, so please keep them up whenever you get some time! It was so nice to see you and Lotta again, sat next to you two at the Bad Times premiere (I'm the Conjuring timeline guy). Best of luck with Shazam: Fury of the Gods, can't wait to see it. Also, that b-roll of you giving a thumbs up looks like your approving of my Lucy Liu interview which, y'know, thanks.
David, I'm a Brazilian screenwriter and you inspired me to direct my own projects. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences on youtube. I hope to one day achieve your success。All the best to you.
Vlogging the whole thing must've only made the experience more draining. Super cool of David and Lotta to go out of their way to bring us along for the ride. Even just the candid BTS footage was really insightful.
Thank you David. As a filmmaker who has been battling depression for 30+ years while trying to maintain some semblance of sanity in the film industry, your videos about your experiences really give me the chance to not feel so invisible. You are most appreciated and loved and respected and you are so generous with your time to produce these. Thank you.
This gave me a new look as to what you and other directors have to go through on such monsterous projects. I am very thankful for this video. For what it's worth, the trailer was awesome. I am very excited for this film!
David!!! Shazam 2 trailer you brought the hype again just like Shazam. WB is lucky to be working with a talented director. Hey honestly the fans love you man!!! We're not expecting you to be Zach or JDG. You can stay a full introvert and we'll still enjoy the shit out of you cux you are awesome!!! You're in the right business!!! We actually need more people like you that's down to earth. It's crazy alot of us see the glory and the praise but never behind the scenes. I guess that's why it's called ShowBUSINESS right? Looking forward to your long career and more upcoming projects. Keep grinding brother don't stop.
As an introvert, it's times like these that we really appreciate the extroverts like Zachary Levi just absorbing all the attention and keeping the heat off of you. I've never heard a director talk so honestly like this. This is amazing.
Thanks so much for sharing this, David. I also have a very limited social battery so it's nice to see how others handle that in extreme situations. Also, Lotta looked fabulous!
Wow, to hear you have feelings like "I suck as a director, I am a boring person, I am in the wrong business for the kind of person I am" is quite shocking and reassuring at the same time! If you have these feelings despite being a phenomenal filmmaker, I think it is okay for me and really anyone else to feel this way too. And THAT Imdb bag was the bag of most random shit I've ever seen in my life lol.
Remember seeing Myggan on TV back in the day and now you're getting hugs from legendary Lucy Liu backstage at comic Con. So cool!!! Looking forward to seeing Shazam 2 soon!
I found this guy in my college textbook when I was in film school. Funny thing is - he didn't even know he was in it and it was written by two film historians which he loved. It was great to be the messenger but I'm sure he was so happy to learn he literally made it into the history books. What a humble legend Edit: Damn what a vague comment - "found this guy in a textbook written by two historians" lol 😂 hold on, I'm going to need to get some details in here
As an introvert myself, I feel you, bro. Regards to Lotta - she is actually a really great operator, she got an amazing eye for composition in real time👌🏻. It is actually very hard to do, everyone who tried it know that it is not a very relaxed experience. Also - thanks a lot for sharing! It was really, REALLY interesting to feel what all this press conferences are all about for a filmmaker. 👍 Have a nice day! ☀️
I really appreciate that that IMDB bag was just "hey, we had a bunch of stuff laying around, shove in enough that at least one person will be happy with one thing."
I love behind the scenes looks like this. It's a side you never really get to see, especially from a fellow introvert. That IMDB bag was just ridiculous though.
I’m an introverted filmmaker myself and it’s great to see this behind the scenes of what it’s really like to do press. Your level of honesty is amazing to see and what is missing in the industry. I will be there for every film you make.
I totally feel You. I used to be more extrovert alas it's gone and now days I'm introvert and the drained feeling is really real. Sometimes it's easier to recover other days ...
David your so open and honest about your experiences when you do something but it also makes you a great filmmaker and storyteller telling these raw stories and making the coolest characters pop on screen as a 19 year old aspiring filmmaker I really look up to you especially cause you have knowledge about all sides of filmmaking not just directing and your a Blackmagic fanboy like myself I have a mate who tells me you have to get a full frame camera but the fact is a camera doesn't matter if you don't have a story worth telling. Btw Shazam is my favorite dc film and very much looking forward to the sequel. Congrats on everything man and keep being you!😃
David, I think this is the first vlog ever on your channel! Or I may be wrong? I love it! Thank you so much for taking us on a press tour with you. Myself a huge introvert, I identify with how you feel about this 200%. So good to get to follow you and Lotta along for the fun ride! And the BTS thoughts about it all.
I'm not an introvert and I often speak in front of a (modest) crowd in my job - and watching this gave me a near panic attack. And then getting instant feedback from thousands of people online? I would be an absolute mess before, during and after. You are a superhero David. Looking forward to when you can tell us the really interesting stuff about making the movie. Great to see Lotta there as well, you two are lucky to have each other.
I got to work H the day you came by. As a fellow introvert it was really great to see this, captures the feel accurately. I don’t know why I keep coming back when it’s so draining but I also get to sit in the backstage area as nobody is there to see me. Watching all the celebrities dance around and be silly, it’s a completely different con backstage.
This was so insightful and such a fresh look at the Comic Con experience. I’ve been going for nearly 20 years and this type of experience as a creator has always been a bit of a mystery. You’ve been so great at just rolling with it for Shazam! and Shazam!: Fury of the Gods! Really looking forward to the film.
It was lovely to see everything happening that one intense day but in contrast, you kept it real and show the reality. Thank you for showing us a little glimpse and showing that we're all still human at the end of the day. All the best, matey!
David thanks so much for posting stuff like this. I relate so much to introversion as a filmmaker/creative so knowing people much further along than me also experience similar joys and struggles is incredibly encouraging and de-mystifies the process. Thanks and hope you're well.
I’m so freakin happy for you man! I’ve been following you since “Lights Out” was only a short film. Your work and career has really inspired me in my own journey!
I so appreciate your videos. You're the most one of the relatable and down to Earth filmmakers around and behind the seems videos like this really solidify why you're also just a great guy. I believe if I ever actually got to make a film that I'd be in the same boat, so it helps to see your success despite any introvertedness.
This type of content is so fantastic. Your unique perspective and the way you document is really special thank you for letting us have a sneak peek at some of your experiences
It's been a privilege to watch your journey as a filmmaker on your channel. Thanks for continuing to make videos like this that are both relatable and super inspiring!
I can definitely relate with how you’ve felt throughout the video, just feeling down after being drained from so much social interaction, especially around much more extroverted people. It’s really great to see you go through what I feel, knowing it’s possible despite that quieter side, to be a big and successful filmmaker. You’re an extremely inspiring filmmaker, especially to the people like me who get amped up before a simple conversation, and still end up not speaking much.
This video was extremely relatable...aside from the being a filmmaker at ComiCon part. I often wonder how fine the line is between being an introvert and having anxiety/depression. During the pandemic, I was diagnosed with social anxiety, which in retrospect, explained SO much about the everything about me while growing up. However, I don't think I'm naturally an introvert. It fully depends on where I am and who I'm with. In the right setting with the right people I can be VERY outgoing...I imagine I could comfortably ride Zachary Levi's confidence and energy into the sunset. Anyway, it's bee a lot of fun watching go on this journey the last few years. Stay strong. Have fun. Make more movies, please.
Congratulations on all your successes!! It's a journey with ups and downs but you continue to impress with your films, your body of work is remarkable! Love your BTS material and by all means, keep making the technical videos about the challenges of your films, it's an education to us aspiring filmmakers. Thank you for your time and hope you know that it what you do is worth it for everyone that follows you!
This is such a great video, and it's so awesome to see you have time to put stuff on this channel again David. I work in the industry as well as a creative executive in development, and I'm an introvert too. I constantly think I'm in the wrong industry for my personality. It's nice to see someone else feel the same way.
Thank you so much David and Lotta for this, videos like these are so helpful for someone who’s also an introvert and it’s so amazing to get an honest behind the scenes look! Thanks again!
I want to say thank you David for sharing your thoughts and experiences on all this. You being able to be 100% honest about all this is really refreshing. We hear often of how great and awesome these interviews and tours are, but you sharing the actual process is a reason me and everyone else loves you. You are honest with us. You aren't afraid to tell how you feel, about how scared and exhausted you can be from all this but still being optimistic about what you worked too hard for to achieve. I want to say thank you David, you're a big hero to me as you are always truthful to us and helping people navigate the crazy world of filmmaking. Thank you
Thanks for the continued behind the scenes dialogue and analysis. This is really informative and I feel you have a serious knack as a narrator. I get a major kick out of this, keep up the amazing work!
David, I've gotten to see you both times you've been in Hall H, and I just need to say you are absolutely killing it. I know it can't always be easy being a DC director, but I love what you're doing and wish you the best on all your future projects. Looking forward to Christmas so you can finally take us behind the scenes and show us how you made it all happen!
I do deeply appreciate the window you’ve been able to give us into the less glamorous (but far more relatable) side of Hollywood. Hearing about how you deal with your mental health and struggles on movies makes it really easy to connect with you and all the films/videos/what have you that you produce. Incredibly excited to see what you and the team have put together with Shazam! Fury of the Gods this December!
Thank you David for being you for being genuine. You’re like the only big director that’s like that and I loved the trailer and I can’t wait for the movie.
This was awesome to see from a director standpoint. We never get to see what direction does. Glad your so open & showing is behind the scenes of the industry.
A wonderfully honest video which I can 100% relate to, having friends that are 'on' all the time, and me being more introverted, doing the social events, feeling drained with the self-doubt voice in my head afterward. Thanks for sharing David, you are truly an inspiration!
This was fantastic to see. Feels like a realistic and grounded perspective into this world. You’re just being yourself, and it shows and is incredible. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing your experience. And for being open about the tricks your mind plays on you. I think that happens to a lot of us, and it's nice to know we aren't the only ones.
I love this so much, great video showing your experiences dealing with these difficulties. You truly inspire me as a young introverted filmmaker. I look forward to what you and Lotta have to offer in the future!
The lead up to the panel put my own nerves on edge - As always an interesting perspective and cool inside look into the bts of filmmaking promotion. It would be awesome to see something similar when you do the press tour of Fury of the Gods. Thanks again for the great video!
Loved this video! It’s cool to see your behind the scenes perspective of comic con and you are extremely relatable. Hyped for Shazam! Fury of the Gods!
You're honestly the only celebrity I know of that is as down-to-earth and relatable as you are. In the ocean of modern sensationalism, your UA-cam channel is a wonderful island of sensibility and honesty. Thanks for all your hard work!
@@Padlock_Steve yep. He’d need much bigger ego to be a “celebrity” 😁
I wouldn’t describe him as a celebrity just because he directed a movie
@@ErenTheWarcriminal he is a celebrity because he is celebrated by his fans
@@ErenTheWarcriminal "just because he directed a movie" It's really hard, u should try it some time.
Being a big blockbuster director is VERY big deal

You doing this as a duo with your wife was ridiculously wholesome. Thanks for the video!
Shes probably the one making him sane in occasions like that.

Is this ironic or unironic?
@@swiftly_produced2694 the intent is unironic, unfortunately that's where it doesn't make sense.

I LOVE this type of video, thanks David. And thanks for being open about the publicity stuff.
David, this was awesome! Looking forward to the film 🤘
Loved this!!
Genuinely nice to see the honesty and earnestness you two show on camera (and behind the scenes). Thanks for posting.
I love this. I love that you're the same person that you were when you did the "Lights Out" short. Awesome stuff! Cheers to you and Lotta!
This is such a great video, and it's so awesome to see you have time to put stuff on this channel again David. I work in the industry as well as a creative executive in development, and I'm an introvert too. I constantly think I'm in the wrong industry for my personality. It's nice to see someone else feel the same way.
Thanks David! It’s amazing seeing this insight to the life of a director - you’re a true inspiration
Thank you so much David and Lotta for this, videos like these are so helpful for someone who’s also an introvert and it’s so amazing to get an honest behind the scenes look! Thanks again!
Thank you so much for being the artist and introvert that you are, and continuing to share that with other introverts who are not alone.
Thank you
Loved this, I wished more people shot their comic con coverage like this.
This was so awesome! Thank you for sharing and please, never change how you are, simply a treasure!
Thanks for the continued behind the scenes dialogue and analysis. This is really informative and I feel you have a serious knack as a narrator. I get a major kick out of this, keep up the amazing work!
This was such an interesting insight! no one ever shows this side, thank you for sharing.
Your candidness is refreshing. Your filmmaking is fantastic. I applaud you in so many ways.
You're the best. I love that you can keep growing as a person and filmmaker
You're living the dream, David, and you totally deserve.
that's a tru gem here, thank you!
Fury of the Gods this December!
this is such an awesome backstage look at being a director, thank you for making this!
Always loved how open, honest and vulnerable you are! More people should take note!
Thank you David for being you for being genuine. You’re like the only big director that’s like that and I loved the trailer and I can’t wait for the movie.
Please never stop doing this, you are an absolute gem of a filmmaker and gem of a UA-camr.
Love your videos. Always very insightful about the filmmaking process and, in this one, the promotional side of things. Fantastic.
This is such a nice insight. Thank you for sharing and for all your work on Shazam!
I love you, man. You're great. Keep up the awesome work.
This was awesome to see from a director standpoint. We never get to see what direction does. Glad your so open & showing is behind the scenes of the industry.
Thanks for keeping sharing your journey as a filmmaker !
A wonderfully honest video which I can 100% relate to, having friends that are 'on' all the time, and me being more introverted, doing the social events, feeling drained with the self-doubt voice in my head afterward. Thanks for sharing David, you are truly an inspiration!
The most humble director out there. Thanks for taking us on this journey with u.
This was fantastic to see. Feels like a realistic and grounded perspective into this world. You’re just being yourself, and it shows and is incredible. Thanks for sharing!
This is so cool. I really dig that you share so much with us!!
What an incredible amount of details you've shown in such a small video. Crazy busy and ridiculous amount of work you do. Thank you and good luck
Thanks for sharing your experience. And for being open about the tricks your mind plays on you. I think that happens to a lot of us, and it's nice to know we aren't the only ones.
David, you're an inspiration.
Thank you, man for letting us in.. best wishes for the movie.
Thanks again for the great video!
admire your work bro. keep projects coming!
Loved this video! It’s cool to see your behind the scenes perspective of comic con and you are extremely relatable. Hyped for Shazam! Fury of the Gods!
