Calling this project "limited" is such an understatement. I'm honestly upset that it wasn't even touched upon how Zachary Levi got involved in this production. The whole thing could have been shot on a phone in an apartment with zero lighting and terrible sound, but starring Levi, it still would have had heightened appeal to industry insiders because of the connected talent. The business of film making is so poorly represented in videos like these, and yet it is the most important part in actually turning your skills into a career.
I was surprised too that they didn’t even mention it. Maybe they will explain; but meanwhile If you want to watch something fantastic that explains just that: ua-cam.com/video/sZpvVggtwyk/v-deo.html

I have to goes against the crowd for this one. This was a very limited project indeed, and collaborating with someone famous or not isn't the point. There is zero point made in this video about how to market the film, so I really don't see why there is such a fuss about the presence of Zachary. If anything, since this is featured on his YT channel it means he was happy to have this opportunity, which tell you that especially in weird times, you *never know how a celebrity might react* (my friends got a A-list actor from my town to play in their pilot and they didn't knew him). It kind of saddens me to see most people are so focused on marketing the film before shooting it. This is about MAKING movies. I don't think this movie was made to be sold to any producer.
I'm a young writer Director and Actor from Ghana. 🇬🇭 FilmRiot has inspired my friends and i so much into making movies even with no budget. Thank you for this video. Looking forward to sharing our content from Africa to you. 🙂
I'm gonna be honest. I never stop and video and go watch a video that is being broken down. I'm just like "show me the magic". But I am really glad that I did for this one. "The Statement" completely through me off guard at the end. I did not expect that at all! And then realizing that we were listening to this character's last words. It was an amazing experience.
It really doesn’t 😂 when it comes to named celebrities the answer is all the same: connections. What he talked about throughout the video is more important for all indie filmmakers.
This guy NEVER talks about how they got a name actor to be in their project, which was the ONLY reason i watched in the first place. A common problem on these type of videos...

"No budget filmmaking" *uses two $3,000 cameras LMAO, in all seriousness, this project was super cool. Twist really hit hard, very informative video for aspiring flmmakers.
I think what he said by ''no budget'' is no budget allowed for that specific short film (like crew with gattering, payed locations, additionnal lights, dolly, vehicules, costumes, built sets, etc) You can get a decent result with a single 700$ camera and vintage lens from ebay. It will just take more time and effort.
The Statement is a short film masterpiece. Zach Ramelan did such a great job. The film is moving and powerful. Everyone who was involved did such a great job. The behind the scenes was so informative.

Come on guys. I have no beef with videos on stuff that's above my pay grade, but don't pretend that this is "no budget." You're on UA-cam. Is camera quality and audio quality taken into account or is it the story and shots themselves? Just asking because I don't know if I'll have access to my school's equipment because our film teacher didn't show up to school.
I'd say that audio quality is usually more critiqued then video quality in most cases since it's usually one of the more upfront ways a viewer receives the story and mood that you are trying to create. This doesn't mean that video isn't a big factor aswell. Video quality isn't limited to just the resolution or frame rate of the video itself, it's more based off of experience and equipment on hand which can portray what all of these professionals and film studios have. That however should not take away the fact that video and audio quality only goes as far as the film's plot, idea, and execution itself. Just use what you have around you and make what you see in your head, if you have that down then you are golden.
Lookin' like a millennial Wolverine. Great video. Me and a buddy are looking into writing and directing indies. I'm currently working on a novel. Hopefully one day I can make those books into films.

They should really start a masterclass or program for editing, VFX, SFX, Screenwriting, acting and everything like that!!! Honestly, because their work is far beyond talent and ingenious
It's just incredible what you can achieve these days with almost no budget, and no crew. Yes, this is a big hollywood actor which is super awesome SUPER, but it would've been just as good with any other well cast person. What a time to be alive lol
I don't think shooting on two cameras (plus gimbal and lenses) worth something like 4000 dollars counts as "no budget" filmmaking. No budget means no budget. Sigma Art 50mm f/1.4: 600€ Sony A7S Mark II: 1900€ Sony A7III: 1500€ unnamed 50mm f/0.95: average prices for 50mm f/0.95 lenses around 600€ gimbals: start around 300€ That's 4900€, or $5500. "No budget" my arse. Don't get me wrong, that seems like a great film for the budget, but you didn't have to call it no budget when it's really not.
The Statement is awesome sauce!Making do with what you have, I am great with. Writing a straight forward story with depth and conflict, I'm on that. Getting a star or two to be in my Low/No Budget, proof-of-concept short film (ESPECIALLY during a global pandemic) is what I need a little bit of help with . How can I make THAT happen?
Make friends in the industry. If you live in an area (ideally LA, NY, or Georgia) then try volunteering with a production company as an intern for some of their projects and try to network with industry veterans. It takes years of experience and knowing the right people to get big names, so you’ll want to attach as many professionals as possible to the project before a big actor will consider it.

I'm just a martial artist and anime fan, even in my age, and I've been trying to shoot something with some form of martial arts, which is difficult because of the pidemic. But, this. This was okay.
I don't get the comments about how the actor is well-known, etc - it's absolutely not relevant to any tips they've shown here. Someone said that the video is wrong because it shows Zachary so it doesn't matter - well ignore Zachary and concentrate on everything else. Why wouldn't you call the best actor you know for your project? Seriously, if you gonna go into this game, stop freaking out about knowing and working with celebrities. It's not that big of a deal. I had friends who called big name actors where I'm from and got them to do a pilot short for their first feature. A-list actors are busy, yes, but it's quarantine and also, they actually are done climbing the Hollywood wall of fame and don't wanna be typed in one character, so they might be on the look-out for indie projects. Yes I said it : You CAN get big name actors in your no-budget production if you play the right cards. It's good for their image to "help cinema students" or "diversify", so even if you don't know them or don't trust that they really like your project, you should give it a shot. P.S. : famous people are not that special and they don't live a life that different from everyone else, and you should know that if you gonna work in cinema.

WAIT... ARE YOU TELLING ME YOU COULDNT GRAB A RODE NTG_ AND BUY A FISHING ROD..... AND RECORD IT?.... YOU GOT LEVI DAMMIT!
The of the L's are not Location - so filmmaking is the opposite of buying real estate ... ;)
