  • Finally I decided to do Flaming Moes after blatently ignoring the poll from months ago. The episode where Homer drinks lean, then shows Moe how to make lean and then the whole town of Springfield starts getting Sizzurp'd
special thanks to Robyn for the picture of Homer ODing on Purple Drank. An image inspired by both the Chris Farley death photo as well as the Earl Sweatshirt video "EARL"

I've watched this episode sooooo many times. I really how it dives into Homer and Moe's friendship. I give it a 9/10. It also has a Lionel Hutz appearance, so how could I not

Was so jarring in Season 14 or so when they opened another episode with "Eye on Springfield" and interspersed the exact same Season 3 intro theme (and many of the same clips) with newer clips. The never-ending Al Jean era seems to call back to this sorta stuff a lot (they brought back Jacques of all characters for a Season 34 episode, for example), and even in Season 13-16 (20+ years ago) it felt out of place and out of time.
Another thing I like about the "I'm making people happy" rant scene is something I've come to appreciate recently while reading through "Me Blog Write Good": it's well-animated and its an interesting shot, what with it being from Marge's perspective where you can see her in the mirror. The show used to have interesting animation and direction techniques back in the golden age, and it's sorely missing nowadays in service of filling as much of the HD screen as possible with "jokes".

I think this is the very first one I ever watched with commentary. I suffered a back injury and had a pretty much a year to just sit on my couch and recover. So I ended up watching the first 19 seasons of the show on DVD then watch them all the commentary. I’m pretty sure this is the first one I ever watched with it. It’s funny that you brought up the fact Lisa terrorizes Bart in this episode. Because I’ve been saying the line she’s not talking about you boy, what an ego. For about a week now.

Yeah I need to watch more episodes with commentary but this is like a highlight of season 3 so i imagine it has a solid commentary track. The weird thing about seasons 1-6 is I’m like pretty sure not every episode had commentary (I remember season 7 making a big deal that each one had it)

@@generationwhyentertainment2455 Believe it or not. Every episode until the 20th season had commentary. You can tell that Matt and the cast love the series. It’s why I’m sad that series is not being continued on DVD. I wanted to have the whole series. Also fun fact. The episode where they go to the world trade Centre has two commentary tracks on it. I think it’s the only one that had it.

@oktoberK oh shit I could have sworn a few didn’t but maybe I mixed up
Yeah it’s a shame. Not for me I don’t really like anything past season 10 enough to own it but for anybody who wants it I feel bad for them since they stopped at 20

@@generationwhyentertainment2455 What makes season 20 really suck is it’s just the episodes there’s no commentary no deleted scenes.

Well… it makes sense that the humor in shows you watch lose their “punch” if you watch it too many times. That’s why I rarely watch Kung Pow, because even though it’s hilarious in my opinion my humor for it goes fairly stale on a couple of repeated viewings. You should review this film if you ever get the chance… or ever care too. It IS really funny.
Lean is still a thing? Christ.
That shot of Moe lighting up that whole row of drinks is hilarious and badass. I’d kill to do such a thing. And the Homer’s “happy” sarcasm bit was too funny to ignore.
    ‘Til the next one.

@@skillet9141 it’s true when I was younger I used to watch the simpsons on a fucking loop as background noise or just in general so sometimes I become a bit jaded
But yeah the sarcasm bit is top tier

Sorry Otto, but this review needed to be set on fire to be good, and it just kinda sat there in the glass. I thought maybe I had to rewatch the episode, and it's like it used to be better, I'm having trouble seeing a classic in it so much as something that used to be notable in a relative sense, because so much less had happened than now. They both come off as jerks to each other and feel out of character for their old selves too, and that was how I felt back then. The tragedy is how needless it is. Homer wasn't going to sell the drink to anyone else (Beer Barony notwithstanding), he just wanted to be a local legend, and Moe didn't need credit for inventing it to trademark it and sell it, just Homer's permission, and he could have bought that easily. Homer knows how bad Moe needs the help with his business, and Moe knows how bad Homer needs his pride soothed, but when they should have left their roles as buyer and seller to work together for a brief moment, the brass ring instead drove them apart, and it just makes me too sad to laugh at the situation. I think maybe you also needed to know more about Cheers to get all the jokes and references there, and I don't connect with it on that level either. I was more of a Frasier man.

Cheers was out of syndication by the time I was cognitive lol and yeah there was like that other one when Barney walks In And woody is just there
