I love that this episode opens on a grey sky. It's unusual for the show, which normally has blue skies, and it's especially striking especially contrasted with all the characters wearing green. Visually, it really stands out. It fits the sorta bleh feeling of this time of year as well (ie what late winter/early spring is actually like, not the idealized version of it).
Re: the 20's setting, given it's written by John Swartzwelder, it makes sense. Almost all of his contributions to the show have elements of the seedier side of the United States around the turn of the century (hobos, movie cowboys, prohibition era characters, etc). It's a great example of the show being "dated" but in a good way ie through tried, tested and true tropes rather than flavour of the month celebrities and references.
Yeah the grey opening was always a strange but welcome and appealing look when I think about that opening

Happy St. Patrick’s Day Otto. St. Patrick’s Day happens to be my mothers birthday so this episode is always special in my house. I would agree with you it is a perfect episode. Also thank you for two episodes in one week.
