The Simpsons and Me: Treehouse of Horror IV

- In true Simpsons fashion my final Halloween Video for the year comes out on the last weekend of November. Its Treehouse of Horror IV. the really good one that sometimes gets overlooked because its sandwiched between two of the most iconic Treehouse of Horror episodes. Even still, it has a moment in it that stuck with me for decades.

Homer in Hell is the big highlight for me here. Every bit in that segment is gold, Flanders satan is maybe the best gag in any Treehouse, Hutz is amazing, and I thought the ending was pretty clever, both the soul ownership thing and the grim fate of all the cops in town waiting to eat Homer's head while he's alive. That freaked me out way more than the Flanders head the gremlin holds, and I don't think it's just because I was so used to ripping out spines as Sub Zero to begin with. I think it's the story itself that scared you there, the feeling of "Phew, we're safe now" being perfectly interrupted like the ending of many classic horror movies, several Fridays and Nightmares among them.
I kinda hate that segment though, and I hate it in The Twilight Zone too. I really dislike when one person is aware of the danger and everyone thinks they're crazy, I find it to be a hackneyed and very limiting premise that telegraphs all its beats. It's the same gag over and over, and it never goes anywhere interesting to think about, as many Zones do. I mean what even is the lesson there? Who did something wrong that should have been done differently to avoid disaster? The only possible lesson is for the people who disbelieved rather than the protagonist learning anything, and that's just not the TZ formula as I see it. Skinner says it best, showing how ridiculous the story is at its base level by outlining Bart's punishment, and the injustice of it.
The Dracula one is funny, but I end up disliking it more for the silliness and the cop out ending than I like it for the jokes that work. Super Fun Happy Slide is good, the crotch pounding is good, but it's also just impossible to take seriously for even a moment, and so it's just a joke parade. The Homer's brain in a robot segment had real drama and pathos, and to see the Burns and Family setup devolve into this was disappointing. I'm not even someone who likes the schmaltzy stuff either, but if you're ever going to go for another tone than pure comedy, I think Treehouse is when to go for it. So overall, this is one of my lesser enjoyed ones, and I'd put it around a 6, only edging above average because Homer in Hell is so good.

I remember the severed head. It was a little too quick to register it as traumatic but I thought it was funny. And I was around 10 or so when I saw this. WB was showing the reruns so I probably a little too old to be properly traumatized. And Santa’s little helper dancing like Snoopy always gets a kick outta me.
Still waiting on WildBoyz… no pressure.
Bruh the jackass related shit is on a hiatus. Because like one got entirely yanked and two got 18+ ratings for dangerous content. I might just have to discontinue the series for the time being but I am planning on doing the other two Bam Margera movies

This was in my opinion a good tree house with one iconic sketch homer deal with the devil and to okay sketches that I found okay as for Ned decapitated head I never really frightened by it I was quite the opposite I thought it was hilarious not going to lie.
