Glad you got that on video. He blatantly admitted he only gave you a ticket because your friend annoyed him for not stopping, therefore he didn't have anything to charge you with (even if the charge on the ticket was legit). The sidewalks are public, the buildings might be federal but as long as you don't ride inside their parking lots they cant and should stop you on "federal" grounds. absurd. Sick bike though.

Actually, he has complete justification for ticketing him. That is not an e-bike (in terms of legally designated e-bike classes), despite what you may try to tell cops. You're going well over 20mph(40+) on something without registration and insurance. If you're in an accident on that thing, you're toast legally. I say this as someone that's a fan of PEVs and have a couple myself, but they're generally designated for 20mph or under and when it comes to bikes, have to have pedals that can be used as well. Not to mentioned you're riding irresponsibly, blowing past stop signs, etc.
People like you are what's going to make integration and acceptance of PEVs more difficult and met with more resistance. If you want people to accept and be friendly towards it and actually have any hope of infrastructure to accommodate it, laws friendlier towards it, etc you have to be more responsible and act as an ambassador and advocate for it instead of ignoring the laws and doing whatever the hell you want. It's immature and irresponsible.

@@SurronNYC You can ride a SurRon legally on the streets as a Mountain bike why I use ASI GLE and Pedal kit .I can Tune and lock the bike at 750 watt 28 mph it's impossible for any to unlock my tune without my password and it can be done swipe of 1 finger

Also, park police have nothing else to do, they always fuck with people. Nothing like real city cops. If that was a city cop he would of gave you some shit and released you. But good on you for being respectful and just avoid getting into a worse situation like some people do.

Lmao all these people saying to run... awful idea. A surron is fast, but it's not that fast lol. Maybe for a single stationary cop, but it's not like you're on a ZR1, it has a top speed under highway limits... Also this cop doesn't seem to really understand the laws around e-bikes, they don't have to be registered federally, and you're not breaking the law by being there. You are breaking the law by operating it on public roads over 750w though, so regardless of his incorrect understanding, you're still breaking federal e-bike laws and a court would still uphold his ticket. I'm all for high powered e-bikes - I have one too, but running from the cops is still dumb. You made the right choice there

The officers enforcing these laws don't even understand them fully themselves. Police impoudung these bikes is just gonna give riders less incentives to stop, it's a broken system.

The laws are already stated but you don't like them and those bikes don't need to go anywhere it's just the people that ride them. You don't get to say what you can and can't do unless it's private property which is why these have an off-road mode the issue is irresponsible riders with the need for speed and illegal use of these bikes so if you want to go fast and ride in the street get them registered and insured like everything else that's not an ebike.
@Trillville43 In my city police aren't gonna waste their time harassing tax payers on ebikes or e-moto bikes, as long as you aren't being reckless. Yeah, I'm still gonna ride 🤪 could care less anyhow as long as you are respectful, you can get away with so much in Texas if stopped. Then again laws aren't really informed on Texas roads so much compared to Commieforina.

Cops are generally pretty cool where I live as long as you aren't speeding and running stop signs 😂. You can get away with riding in the bike lanes long as you don't go over 25 mph. When you start going over 40 that's when it's hard to say these are bikes lol. Don't get me wrong I like to do what you guys do too but if you're riding like that be prepared to run!

I’d do the same probably not wanting to get chased and make it worse. But I think they can legally seize your bike which is pretty scary and might be something to keep in mind whether to stop or not. Accosted by a local, badged predator here in northeast Georgia for riding my 60+mph electric scooter (at very low speeds) but thankfully, no citations or permanent confiscations occurred.

aye fyi what that cop did is illegal look up your laws about that, and also your surron will never need to be registered because of the fact that it's under a certain watt. all throughout the US the surron is a class 3 e bike class 4 is where registration is required class 3 you do not need to register and you cannot register it either
I have four completely spect out surrons that all go 70 mph and I've asked a ton of cops if they need to be registered I've even ask 3 different dmv's and they say they can't do it and on top of that class 3, 2, 1 E bikes do not need to be registered on federal property that cop lied to you and also really messed up his chance of being on the force.

You guys do gotta be a little safer and more respectful on the road but that cop was kinda an asshole. You should def go to court, he may not show and then the ticket is dismissed. I would recommend you either ride in the car lanes at motorcycle speed or you ride the bike lane or the side walk at bicycle speed

Honestly you got off pretty easy that cop asshole or not could have impounded your bike and took your license plus jail time. You absolutely did the right thing by stopping though running from cops is stupid if you're caught running you're done that's definitely jail time. I get it though it's hard to not want to rip it up on these bikes but going 50+ in a residential area is bound to draw the attention of cops and Karens who will call the cops on you. Try to draw as little attention to yourself as possible especially on a Surron as they are starting to crack down on these bikes.
Nah fuck that. It sounds like the cop was giving you a ticket because your friend didn't stop. It's not your responsibility to make sure he stopped it should be the cop's responsibility and not take his anger out on you. Don't ever take what they cops say at face value and always question them, your not going to give them a hard time by asking questions. You also didn't need to show him I.D, in your video there was no signs indicating federal property so there were no grounds to ask for an I.D. That entire encounter was just bullshit.
