Hey! Cat heavy equipment road tech her. I just wanted to say that I think you nailed it with the 4 stages, but for me, when shit gets real, it's on a much larger stress level of 12 on the 1-10 scale. I had a similar situation with a 44mm cap head through bolt on a drag link for a steer axle on a 25 ton lift capacity forklift and I remember nearly having a meltdown, stircrazy for sure. It took me over 3 hours to get it apart and I was on a 9 hour quoted job to rebuild the unit, which that battle cost me 1/3rd of my bank time. Worst part is, it was 14 degrees and in a shaded area with the wind blowing. All of my works done outside in any weather and mostly on construction sites or feilds in the middle of no where, and it's usually diesel powered with an engine thats probably about the weight of the car your working on. Also, that job had to be done on my knees in the dirt, tucked under the counterweight with no help, just an operator who didn't speak English and was basically their to let me in and out of the property...
Just put a clamp on the other side of it. That has worked for me every single time. And I work as an automotive salvage mechanic I work on hundreds of vehicles every single day and spend about 50 hours a week minimal doing it. Good practice
