      You’re welcome! I’m glad the videos help others to learn binding, I personally avoided using the attachment because I didn’t understand how to set it up or how to keep the fabric flowing steady thru the binder, it would always veer off. But with anything, practice makes perfect and it doesn’t take long to get the hang of it!!! Now I love using the binding attachment.

It does take a bit of practice and I don’t know if your particular machine has a designated binding foot but check to see because the Brother does only if you buy the binding attachment. It helps tremendously because on the side of the foot is a flat guide to help keep the fabric from straying.

    I'm just curious, I'm thinking about this machine and binder. Is the blue tape to secure the binder to the machine or just to keep it from getting bumped? Does it screw in?

    • @jeanetteweger5518
      @jeanetteweger5518  3 роки тому +3

      The binder with blue tape is a generic binder and will need to be taped down. This machine does not have the availability to screw a binder on it. The binder that is available thru Brother along with other attachments they offer, all snap into the channel on the door. I have the Brother double fold binder but because of the bulk I switched to what is called a top clean bottom raw binder. Basically it only folds on top which is half the bulk of the double fold. • @marybard7431
    @marybard7431 9 місяців тому

    I am a bit confused. You said you bought a generic binder 1/2” from eBay but you also said the binder needs a foot that you contacted Brother for an extra foot but wasn’t able to buy it since they sell only with the binder itself. Did the one you bought on eBay come with a foot? If not how and where did you get the foot?

    • @jeanetteweger5518
      @jeanetteweger5518  9 місяців тому

      A foot comes with the brother binder, it is a good thing to have. Brother will not and does not sell the foot separately. You have to buy the entire binder again to get a replacement foot and from what I understand, the binder is not over $100.00 so that’s an expensive foot. With knowing that, I found someone local to 3D print a binding foot that I use with the generic binder as it has a shield on the right side of the foot to keep the fabric from straying to the right while sewing. If you would like a foot, I can give you his information. He sells them on Etsy for $10.

    Jeanette, regarding that special foot Brother won't sell you a replacement..... How about modifying a different and add the foot edge yourself?
    Here's the idea from UA-camr , "The Sewing Machine Repair Guy"? He repairs a serger which has a missing/broken plastic hinge that cannot be replaced with a new part because nobody sells it.
    - - Idea is to modify one of your plastic plastic feet which you can buy and then add the missing lip on the right side of the foot.
    - - Please watch how the missing plastic is restored with two ingredients:
    ua-cam.com/video/8ro37xGUALs/v-deo.html
    Two Ingredients:
    1. Cyanoacrylate "Super Glue"
    2. Baking Soda
    Then I think he used sand paper to reshape the glue.
    I hope the light bulb in your head turns on with the thinking, "I think I can do it!"

    I found a video that teaches you how to turn the double fold device into one like the one you're using. I didn't use a card, I used a straw cut to length, rolled it up and put it in a place of the paper one and it worked perfectly. In the Brother accessory I placed it from the place where the bias was inserted to the end.
    The video is in portuguese, but for a professional like you it doesn't matter. It starts at 10:15.
