    Thank you for your video and great tips, I have my machine for a while but I have not used much, but today I was working on a knit top and it was really a challenge , I needed to re thread , forgot to put the leaver back on and of course it took me while to figure what I was doing wrong. I do have one question. I recently just started sewing with knits, because they intimidated me. I use the Serger with maxi-lock thread on all four. Should I use stretch thread in the looper for the cover lock ? Which one do you recommend ? I placed my order on Saturday when they were closed for the cover stitch machine, no delivery date yet. I would like to get any stretch/wooly nylon that I may need for hemming knits. Thanks again

      @@kathyjanelle7264 if you're going to use maxilock stretch it would be in your looper only. You don't have to use it but I do to keep thread popping at bay. Wawak has maxilock stretch in allot of colors if you're one that likes to match.

    Hi Jeanette, thank you for your wonderful help. I'll try today. On Brother DVD video about coverstitch they advised leave the threads on side of the foot after threading, but taking you advice and watching your video very carefully I followed your method and it works fab. Thank you so much Jeanette. I just bought this coverstitch CV3550 3days ago. I love you methods so easy and very practical.

      Thank you, I'm glad my videos help. I bought my 2340 before the 3550 came out but since I don't have the occasion to utilize the reverse coverstitching, I saw no reason for me to put out so much money for a feature that will never get used. As with the 3440, it's the same as my 2340, the difference being a wider neck area and I couldn't justify an extra $400 just to get a couple of inches more in that area. The garments I sew free thru that area just fine as I sew knits, DBP and some wovens. No matter which brand coverstitch machine someone decided on, it's a great asset to have!!!! Keep cranking out those gorgeous items and remember you have a huge coverstitch family in the FB groups!!!

    I have been watching your videos today. You do a nice job. I have had this cover stitch machine for about 6 months. I boxed it up and have been trying to sell it. It sews jerkily, especially over seams. I really dislike how you have to remove the thread when you finish the round. I want to love this machine but, I'm not sure I can. So what I discover after wanting to package this machine up and send back was that you must use maxilock stretch thread in the looper for knits. Or I guess wooly nylon if you like-regular thread is not so great in the looper placement. 3 needles and maxilock stretch is perfect!

    • @jeanetteweger5518
      @jeanetteweger5518  4 роки тому

      Not necessarily, it is not a must to use all 3 needles nor maxilock stretch in the looper for knits. I use the stretch thread because it helps the fabric to stretch and threads not pop as easily. I never use all 3 needles either. If you are having issues with the machine, please feel free to private message me and I'll help you thru the issues you're having. 99% of the time it is operator error and not the machine. It takes practice and patience, more patience than practice. Again, please feel free to contact me.

    Hi again. I think you’re the best, so I wanted to ask if you see a problem with my way of doing necklines with ribbing... I shortened my process by turning under 1/4” on my tops and ironing (or basting down), then placing the ribbing under the folded part and cover stitching on the top side just below ribbing. It seems just as sturdy and looks great.. Best of all, it’s faster. No serging the ribbing on first and then cover stitching and it looks beautiful. What do you think? I bet others have been doing it like this for ages, but I just discovered it for myself. Again, thank you for helping so many people. Hilary

    • @jeanetteweger5518
      @jeanetteweger5518  3 роки тому

      I think if it works best for you then do it but, it may seem faster but in the long run, it’s probably taking longer because you are pressing/ basting edges when you could serger and coverstitching. Everyone has a method that is comfortable to them so go with what you like best!! I sew in bulk so I don’t have time to press 50 to 100 items. The main thing is to get your garment looking superior by whatever method you use!!!!

    I just ordered my 2340CV and my needles from Ebay! Your videos have been so helpful in deciding to take the plunge. Particularly enjoyed your sewing room tour of machines. Would love to know your opinion on a good sewing machine upgrade from an inexpensive Singer 3323. My main concerns are sewing thin and stretchy fabrics such as cotton/spandex jerseys (may become rare after I get the 2340 CV) I wonder if it is necessary to have "adjustable foot pressure" and/or and single stitch needle plate as a way to prevent fabrics from getting drawn down into the machine. Hoping to avoid having to use backing or other workarounds in the future. If not for this consideration, I'd probably choose the Brother 6000i - unless you would suggest an entry level Juki for good solid garment stitching. I don't do embroidery or quilting so I don't need lots of decorative stitches. My gut instinct is to go first with Brother 6000 and then get a Juki later on.

    • @jeanetteweger5518
      @jeanetteweger5518  4 роки тому

      Honestly, I use my Brother 6000i for zigzag or rare buttonholes. All my garments are constructed with my serger then coverstitched for hem. I gather using elastic so I use the Brother 6000i to zigzag the elastic on. I have the Juki industrial for heavy fabrics when I make decorative pillows. When I first purchased the Juki I was sewing only straight stitch items but have since moved on from doing that. Back then I was making pillows, sheets, blankets and table linens, but I keep it just in case.

    Just got this machine yesterday. I had trouble releasing the threads n my looper keeps breaking. I'm already thinking about taking it back. After watching ur video, I'll give it another shot. What group are u referring to? I'd like to join.
    I do have a question.. after threading the machine, do I bring the looper thread up n lay on top of the machine or leave it hanging inside?
    2. After threading the needles, how do you get the threads under the presser foot?

    • @jeanetteweger5518
      @jeanetteweger5518  4 роки тому

      Don't take the machine back, it takes time to learn just like anything else. You will get frustrated at times but 99% of the time it's operator error. It doesn't take weeks or Mike to learn, just grab a stack of scrap fabric sit down and practice, practice, practice. On the initial threading you can leave the looper thread inside because when you go to release your will be bringing it up to the top. And yes when threading the needles bring them under the foot, take some time and watch my videos they should hello you loads. Congrats on the new machine too but don't send it back, believe me it's you being frustrated and in a hurry to see how wonderful things look after you've used it. If you haven't already done so, change your needles if you're sewing knits.

      A serger is completely different from a coverstitch machine. The serger constructs a garment while the coverstitch helps give a finished look by hemming. A serger does not hem in the same manner.

    • @jeanetteweger5518
      @jeanetteweger5518  7 років тому

      Carolina Ordaz Have you adjusted the differential? The top of the presser foot screw should be 1/2" from the machine so adjust that out. Are you starting with a couple hand turns, keep needles down and hold the thread for a few stitches when you start the machine.

    • @carolinaordaz4676
      @carolinaordaz4676 7 років тому

      Jeanette Weger both the differential and the presser foot screw are as they came from factory. Should I put more pressure on the screw? since at that point the thickness of the cloth is greater?

    • @jeanetteweger5518
      @jeanetteweger5518  7 років тому

      Move the differential to the first dot toward 2 and you will be loosening the presser foot screw on top so that the top of the screw is 1/2" from the machine. Try all tensions at 2 and stitch length at 4

    • @jeanetteweger5518

      Try moving the differential up one more click. If that doesn't help with the joints then adjust the presser foot a little at a time until you can get thru it. Be sure you are using the correct needles also. You should have HAX 130/705 90/14 SUK BP. These are the needles you are suppose to use. If you are using the ones that came with the machine, replace them as soon as you can with the correct. I found the needles that come with the machine create problems too.
