Anytime you can do your own maintenance is a win man, just try and find the right UA-cam video then your good. Actually just bought a grom today so can’t wait to rip
Unfortunately this also has a screen to clean out but I didn’t do it 🤦♂️ I plan on doing it for the first time soon and I’ll record it also. So far two oil changes and I think by the 3rd I’ll do it. But yeah these bikes are approachable!
Honda says first oil change is at 500mi and they don’t require a filter change, but I did. My second oil change is at 4k. I don’t ride it hard, but have ridden it in temps up to 110 degrees. Honda Oil ($11qt) and HIFLO filter (HF117 $7.33) are less than $20 and it’s easy to change. Check the magnetic drain plug for any metal shavings and wipe clean. With filter out, lean the bike to the right to drain out all the oil, then wipe it clean. Replace the crush washer when reinstalling the drain bolt if you have one. There are many good oils out there if you can’t find the Honda oil. I use Castrol Actevo in my R1’s. Make sure you get motorcycle oil that meets JASO standards as it needs to lubricate the gearbox too.
Nice! For some reason I thought this one had a screen instead of a filter. Now I need a second filter! I did the first oil change on my Honda Monkey. Easy peasy.
That’s awesome! Yeah I encourage everyone to do it. I will be doing an oil change again soon and may make a slight updated video on it. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for posting. One idea i saw on Links Garage YT channel he uses aluminum foil with this oil change on his DRZ to control the oil flow ...no mess. His videos on his DRZ are great!
You are the first person to give me such a good idea on doing this better. Good looking out! I will check out Links Garage’s Channel and add this to my oil changing process. Thanks!
@@mintmotos3650 Links is like OCD and doesnt like mess lol and saw his vlog on his 1st DRZ oil change (I was hooked) youre welcome and pls no offense just a thought. have great weekend!
Omggg appreciate you so much!!!! Thank you for sharing this. I just bought my son a grom and had no idea neither enough money to take it for service. You just made it so simple to follow. I believe I even know how to change the oil on any vehicle now👍👍👌👌😊😊God bless you always🙏🙏
You are very welcome! 😁it’s for people like you that I really get excited showing and sharing this kind of content. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. Stay safe and God Bless 👊🏾
Thanks for the video. Can you make a video of taking off the clutch crankcase cover to clean screen. I would like to know how you would disconnect the clutch cable that connects to the case.
really cool stuff! i just bought exactly the same grom, i’m a beginner rider but did a lot of research before buying and i have a feeling i’m going to ride this grom to the ends of the earth
It’s pretty straightforward. I haven’t made a video on it but it’s more approachable than you would think. Definitely get a feeler gauge so you can gap the valves. And everything else is simple with the directions. If you have any trouble reach back out to me and I’ll help you out.
about to do my first oil change myself thanks for sharing this, had appointment at dealership but they cancelled first date second date they booked on holiday they were closed for and booked third date but it was weeks away so about to do it myself they also priced oil change at $235 which i thought was outrageous they tried to say oh well oil cost and shop charges 85 an hour but numbers still didn't add up they sold me the oil when i bought the bike for $16 but some how tried saying its about 100 for oil an 85 hour shop time still wasn't making sense on how it would be 235 and that was just oil change no filter change nothing so my plan was to get it done at a shop so i had some sort of proof my bike was maintained and all that but with the hassle of appointments an the price i cant justify going to shop for this so I'm gonna try an do it myself an close friend has offered to help me as well so seeing this video was nice to see basics an what I'm getting into an all i gotta say is I'm very happy i didn't pay someone almost $250 for something that will cost me basically nothing but time as i already bought the oil friend gave me the filter and have all the tools really just need a nice day to be outside to do it. thanks for sharing this video very well done easy to follow along with what your doing sound was little low but that could be my computer. have great rest of your day thank you :)
I’m am beyond excited this video encouraged you to do it yourself. Your story is the reason why I did mines myself. The one dealership I went to said something about a inspection or complete service that would be an extra $70ish dollars. It’s practically criminal to charge past $40 for an oil change on these bikes. When you do complete the oil change come back and let me know how smooth it went. Thanks for sharing your story and watching. I am working on getting my audio better amongst other things! Take care!
Good question. I didn’t replace mines I think I’ll change it next oil change but they are supposed to replaced every oil change. Some people just reuse until it leaks. I’m kind of in between the two extremes. It’s cheap enough that I’ll have one on hand but I am not afraid to reuse my current one a few times.
Thank for the vid bro! I bought my 2023 Grom 6 months ago and am just getting to 750-800 miles. I was gonna take it into the dealer to get the oil changed but I think I’m just gonna go ahead and do it in my garage. Looks very straight forward. I love that Honda made it so easy to work on this bike. By the way, how much of a difference have you seen with the Mods you stated? Any change in the top speed? Main differences? Thanks again bro!
No problem! I’m glad you enjoyed it. The Grom is so approachable. I’m glad you will be doing the oil change yourself. I have noticed it holds 55-60 mph easy now without the need of a full tuck. The Chimera intake is off my Grom right now. So I’m running the tune and cam with the stock intake and it’s still performing well.
@@AT-kt4wy That is what I was told also. I did mines much later but I was told it was okay if I went a little over. Just be sure to do it! Thanks for watching 👍🏾
@@mintmotos3650 no need to replace it. Just take the clutch cover off. There’s a small screen to clean and reinsert. Don’t do it until the next oil change obviously hah.

I'm mind blown. I owned a 2015 honda grom and it had an oil spinner and a screen to clean out. So glad they fixed that. Thats so much easier

I needed this vid , thanks bro
Your comment made my day. You're welcome!
Why dealers charge $300 plus for this is insane.
Great job!
It blows my mind also. It's so simple. Thanks for watching man 👊🏽
wrap a little tin foil on the pipes before you drain the oil so it keeps oil off them. easy clean up and no smoking later.

does this year come with an oil screen? if so do you have to clean it?
Yes these bikes do but that requires a lot more work to get access to. They shouldn’t need cleaning until around 7500 miles.
@@mintmotos3650 thanks!
good stuff. make sure to have good ventilation with that door open, when running the engine.
Thanks! That is a good idea for next time!
10w-40 ok too ?
Definitely okay 👍🏾. From what I heard we should be careful with full synthetic oil in our Groms. 10w-40 should be fine if you don’t have 10w-30.

It's up to 300 miles (honda owners manual) always do it after 100 miles on any engine don't listen to a salesman.
the manual says 600
Just fyi oil filter doesn’t need to be replaced until 8000 miles, but doesn’t hurt for a few extra dollars I guess lol
