Fern, I just saw the post on ig about someone commenting on your videos saying you laugh too much. Please don't change your videos there's nothing wrong with your videos just as entertaining as always and you are as sweet and positive and happy go lucky. F**k that person. I love your videos. Your collection is gorgeous as usual 😊😊
I was literally going to comment about this because I can barely tell there's any laughing and literally none of it is out of place? It's how people speak 😂 such a weird thing to have an issue with
That begonia in that planter is immaculate. The ridges on the pot are so perfect with the plants texture and the color of the petioles goes with the color on the pot. 😍
May I tell you a little story? I have a Hoya and I'm sure how to say this. I got a clipping from a friend in 1973 and I'm still growing the clippings from it. The friend I got it from lost his so I gave him a clipping of his original plant. He had his for 35 years and he got it from someone that had it for 30 to 35 years. Count that up. I gave given clippings to people all over the world. Yep the same plant.
Hah! Same here. My grandma gifted my mom a Hoya 30 smth years ago which she had been growing for 10. I have grown one from clippings now so apparently they’re just meant to live forever… 😂
There was not a plant that I did not like in this video and that alocasia odora looks so stunning!! Also I wasn’t sure if I could dm you from your story but wanted to let you know whoever emailed you about your giggles that person is clearly nuts and just bitter about their own life. 1. I’ve never thought any of your videos were annoying 2. Why is he/she expecting someone else to change just because it annoys them 3. There was no need to “announce” to you anything, they could’ve just moved on quietly. Clearly just there to hurt you I swear, please don’t let it bother you. We love you and all your content❤️ Never dim your light for others☀️
I don't usually comment, but I just wanted to say that lately with pest and fungus in my planty babies i've been feeling a little overwhelmed 🥲 every time you make a new video it makes me feel more inspired and my plant wishlist grows. i love your content! ❤️✨🌱
I often stay away from begonias because I’m never really impressed by them, until I see one of yours and I’m like « yeah I’ll need that one right now » 😭🌱
No one doesn't like Begonia Lucerna. I also love that I can cut mine back and have it grow huge again in a few months. I just cut mine WAY down in order to give to my mother- and sisters-in-law cuttings for Mother's Day, and everyone was super excited about them. A friend of mine took a cutting for her mother in law for Christmas last year. It's just like having an endless foliage bouquet.
gorgeous plants!!! that first begonia is insane! so in regards to ants I read that some ants will protect certain bugs that would cause damage the plants and make the plant extract nectar! not only that but ants would attack beneficial insects that would kill the pest! so no I think ants are nobody friend!
Just wanted to say how much I enjoy your videos. All of your plants are gorgeous. The majority of my collection are Hoyas but after watching your videos, I now have a Philodendron ‘Splendid’ and a few Anthuriums and Begonias. Every time I watch one of your videos, I add several plants to my wish list. 🌱 💕
Great plant video with such stunning and thriving plants! I hope it’s not inappropriate to say, but the thing I most appreciated in the video was you. You have such wonderful positive energy with regard to your plants. You have a great voice, very clear and easy to follow; I used to teach English as a foreign language, and if I were still teaching I would recommend my students to watch your videos. And finally, you are simply gorgeous, or perhaps gorgeous with an edge is a better way to say it. Again, I mean no disrespect, I’m here for the plants, but you make it feel like you’re a friend sitting around talking about your plants, which are truly amazing! Well done! I’m sure others are more qualified to comment on the ants, but my understanding is that the ants come for the ‘honeydew’ secretions from aphids - basically the ants eat the aphid poop, which is sweet because it contains all the juices that the aphids have sucked out of your plant!!!
I also love my begonia lucerna! The red does get darker with more light, and the foliage does, too :) My friend has one that is seven feet tall named Gloria! And the Wilbur Graves looks amazing! What a comeback!!
Yesss this video is amazing!! Also just saw your Instagram story and Fern do not change for anyone!! You do you and giggle away 💚💚🤣 👈🏽 that’s me giggling with you 😊☺️
My Alocasia Frydek brings me SO MUCH JOY! I converted it to semi hydro like 2 weeks after it arrived in the mail and it has been so easy going and low maintenance the entire time! Every single leaf it puts out is STUNNING! Mine also lives just in regular, ambient room conditions. Basically 50% humidity and temp in the 70’s f. It’s one of my absolute favorite plants and takes so little care. OBSESSED!
I actually had a similar experience with ants on my florida beauty. I left them because I didn't think they were doing any harm and I kind of liked seeing the symbiotic relationship. Fast forward to a few months later and I realized the ants started to feel a little too at home and made a nest in my hoya cabinet. I ended up having to clean out the whole room, disassemble the cabinet and put out ant traps. The ants themselves don't really do anything but once they find a stable food source their population can really get out of hand!
Actually, ants really like mealybugs.. to the point that they deffend them from predators. That happens because mealybugs secrete a kind of sweet sap for them to feed or something like that. However, if there are ants on the soil, it might be a sign that it's compacted because ants wouldn't build their home on a land that could fall on them.
But I believe they won’t kill all the mealys. In a sense, they farm them so they have a continual food source. I have plenty of ants come in for my heavy EFN plants (I’m looking at you p. glorious) even though there’s no mealys around.
@kathrynrosemua That's right. They won't kill any mealies or even let predators kill them because they want to farm them. I wasn't talking specifically about the EFN thing, though... in this case, the ants may be attracted to it alone. But when there are ants on my plants, I'll always check for mealies.
You might want to try and control your ant situation before buying beneficial insects this summer! Ants will feed on extrafloral nectar (EFN) and "honeydew," which is the sticky substance mealybugs leave behind. I have carpenter ants that come out every spring, and unfortunately, they'll feed on Cryptolaemus montrouzieri (also known as mealybug destroyers), which are pretty expensive 😅
Omg I love your begonias!😍 I also have a lucerna, and if you give it even more light its silver spots get much bigger and its leaves will get redder like you said! (This plant is literally my profile pic and In half my vids 😅
Ants and mealy bugs actually have a symbiotic relationship. The ants stroke the mealies to make them produce a sap which the ants eat. In return the ants protect the mealies from predators. As for other pests, I believe that they do eat thrips, so, it really depends on the pest.

Look at you beaming!!!! Proud plant parent!!!! 😊. Loved this video. The favourite plant in my collection at the moment is my Anthurium - Wave of Love. As a $3 plant rescue, she has grown so big. Two leaves are now 60 cm long. She looks a bit like a birds nest fern, but is a lot hardier. I have repotted her recently in a bigger Victorian looking ceramic pot.
Fern, you are such an inspiration to me and lots of other people. You have inspired me to try so many plants I thought I would never be able to grow. I'm lucky to live in FL, where I can get new plants year round. I will definitely be ordering a begonia paulensis.
Wow Fern, I will take them all girl! Absolutely one of the best favourite videos ! The plants are so healthy and what a great selection! Bravo, your plant parenting is producing stellar results!
Every single one of these plants I had my mouth opened jaw dropped! I’m soooo in love! Your Wilbur Graves giiirllll I hope mine will be that one day! My silver band didn’t make it :( my Polyneura is doing amazing! My all green one is huge and lush too. My splashy one, silver one and outter Varigated one are all finally taking off. But anyways, love your collection Fern ♥️
Love your videos! I have seen that Begonia Paulensis in the background of your videos wondering what it was, so happy you showed it today! Put it on my wishlist asap haha, but it is not really available here unfortunately 😢
Oh my goodness.. ive said it before and ill say it again, your collection truly is goals! i am also loving my Frydek lately, shes getting so big now, and i got lucky with variegation as well! I'm dying for one of those furry sinningia babies, definitely going on the wishlist, and i think I might be ready to snag up some begonia too - im inspired by that spooky one! thanks for the great video, so nice to relax after work with my favorite planty content creator 💚
Happy Friday Fern! You know if you have questions about your plants from CSN just reach out to them.. Crystal is always super helpful and kind. And on a different note.. PLEASE keep being the beautiful human you are.. Laugh, giggle or just be you. We simply LOVE you.. Kisses for Olive 💚🐕
Hi Fern! I love Frydek too! Just got a Varigated one. Both are doing well in ambient conditions. I heard a tip on another video that they need less light than you think. The person suggested moving it 3’ from a south window. I have done this and now I have no leaf drop. Also they don’t need to be propped. Just fyi in case you or anyone else needs to know this.
the double leaves may be a result of the superthrive~ i’m originally an orchid grower who is now expanding into more leafy house plants and i had personal experience w/ superthrive causing blooms to double//mirror and it can cause “deformities” in the leaves and abnormal growth habits. i personally had this happen with prolly 15-20 orchids out of 50. after i stopped using superthrive and the plant cycled back all the “deformed” growth habits stopped :)
I’m just getting into Hoyas and I got some wayetii cuttings at a plant swap last week. I hope eventually I can have a full plant like yours 😍 My favourite plant at the moment is probably my philodendron joepii, it’s still a juvenile and the new leaves come in with this lovely red underside and subtle red tint on the top. And it’s so glossy too, I just love it.
I just recently cut back my begonia Lucerna because I forgot to water it and the soil dry out too much and started to about 5 leafs and she was looking bald
Hello, just found your channel,(6/8) binge watching every since, love your content and your love for plants. You know your plants! Those that don't like your laughter can stop watching.
Hi Fern commenting to answer your question about aunts and plants. For some plants that produce extra floral nectaries, it's an evolutionary adaptation to attract ants for help with pest prevention and probably pollination. But most of the time up here where we are in the west ants have been seen farming pests that produce honeydew like aphids, mealy bugs, scale, because they suck the sap from the plant and excrete the excess sugars into their poop which is the honeydew. So if you see ants in your indoor house plant collections, make sure you keep an eye out because chances are they are farming, the aphids and other mealy bugs and other sap sucking pests.
💚🌱 I love your content...your plants are stunning...I really appreciate your honesty, (admitting you're no expert/just winging it), and all the advice you do have to share from personal experience.
Absolutely nothing exciting has happened in my collection so far this spring. I moved cross country and I think they are just like retaliating. I’m living vicariously through you. (Also, have been buying more plants because of it…) Just know that I have become obsessed with Wilbur graves because of yours. So, so stunning.
I LOVE your Begonia’s! I love my Begonia Maculata she is always spitting out new leaves it’s really incredible! I was so excited to see a video from you this morning. I sent you a message on IG, but keep being you. Look at your following shows how much your loved for who you are 🤗
These plants are nothing short of immaculate 😮 Fern how did you treat for flatmates? I think I remember you opted away from sulphur… did you find something else to work?? A few of my plants are EXTREMELY slow to grow and they should be thriving in the conditions they’re in
Thanks girl!! Yeah I’ve just been using the Safer’s End All miticide and it works great. Sulphur works well too but so stinky 🥴 lol! Thanks for watching Jen 🫶
It is not that I don't like begonias, they don't like me 😂 that begonia paulensis is gorge!!! Another one of the same vibes is begonia phutoensis, i've wanted to get one for so long but i've killed so many begonias already 😢
Ants do eat pests, but not all of them. They eat the eggs of most pests but e.g. don’t eat aphids. So it’s not the most effective pest control. I’ve heard however that plants put out the extrafloral nectar in the first place to attract insects that would eat pests, as the nectar can’t be used for pollination obviously.
First I want to say that I love to watch your videos. Here I was thinking I had my wishlist done, and then you show this lovely begonia paulensis. What can I say? OMG. I have started to hunt for it here in Europe. Wish me luck.
@@wildfern Hahaha, now I'm at the second Begonia part of the video, and they are both amazing, I need one! I love your collection and vibes, thank you Fern!
Oh some great favs can see why you choose them I love my wayetti no flowers on mine yet but fingers crossed the Wilbur graves is on my wishlist so beautiful x
Wow, your Begonia paulensis is a real show stopper! 😍 There are so many beautiful species within the begonia genus. Another one that I find stunning is the B. brevirimosa. Unfortunately I find them a bit difficult to care for. I really liked your Alocasia odora aurea. I'm usually not a fan of variegated plants but that one is really beautiful. And the Sinningia leucotricha is such a striking and cool species! Would you say it's easy care? I recently got a cutting of its relative, S. bullata. I can hardly wait for it to develop a tuber and start producing blooms.
Gorgeous gorgeous faves Fern! I hope my Myranta Silver Band grows to be like yours! At the moment I have 2 faves, my Monstera Albo and my Philo. Florida Ghost are doing ABSOLUTELY AMAZING even though we are in autumn at the moment they are both putting out huge leaves with stunnning colours, esp my Florida Ghost's leaves are so huge and 'white' - both in my north facing window (southern hemishere) in LECA. I'm loving them so much atm.
happy to see your golious beeing a stunning plant again. And also very interesting I also have one and are planing to chop it soon and pot it together, I was debating if I want 2 or 3 cuttings, but now I think I do 2. The furry plant looks so soft and adorable :D I got inspired from one of your videos a year ago or so and got myself 2 majestic cuttings and they are growing up a mosspole now and seizing up and I´m so happy I got that plant, it´s one of my favorites.
I've found if you see bigger ants on or around the plant, versus sugar ants, look for mealies. Apparently, the little effers carry mealy bugs around and plant them to harvest the nectar they produce and the baby mealies.
That anthurium is magnificent! *** You mentioned your diy pon, I remember the vid from 2 years ago & just ck'd your lists, I don't see anything since 2 years - can you please do an update on what you are using now? I really don't want to spend the money on lechusa.

Yep! I’ve only had mealies after getting ants in my house they often go together.
But I believe they won’t kill all the mealys. In a sense, they farm them so they have a continual food source. I have plenty of ants come in for my heavy EFN plants (I’m looking at you p. glorious) even though there’s no mealys around.

Hello, I hope you will show the bloom of your hoya wayetii ! 😀 Thank you for sharing about your favorite houseplants
Very nice plants. I love it!
Just pulled the trigger on the Begonia Lucerna! What a stunning plant! Thanks for the inspiration! 😉🤩🪴🫶🏻
You'll love it! Such a great pick. Thank you for watching 🌱
@@wildfern just checked and we can’t get it in the Uk 😭 thanks girl
I need the first begonia in my life!! Your plants are soooo beautiful. ♥️
That begonia is super fun! Only got into begonias this spring, love the variety!
You are such a natural. I love your channel.
Thank you so much!
It is not that I don't like begonias, they don't like me 😂 that begonia paulensis is gorge!!! Another one of the same vibes is begonia phutoensis, i've wanted to get one for so long but i've killed so many begonias already 😢
Great collection of plants for this video, love them all. Thanks for sharing your beautiful plants with us. Happy growing 😊
That Begonia is incredible!
Thank you!! I love it
@@wildfern Hahaha, now I'm at the second Begonia part of the video, and they are both amazing, I need one! I love your collection and vibes, thank you Fern!
Oh some great favs can see why you choose them I love my wayetti no flowers on mine yet but fingers crossed the Wilbur graves is on my wishlist so beautiful x
Yay, a new Fern video! 🥰
Thank you for watching 🌿
Wow, your Begonia paulensis is a real show stopper! 😍 There are so many beautiful species within the begonia genus. Another one that I find stunning is the B. brevirimosa. Unfortunately I find them a bit difficult to care for.
I really liked your Alocasia odora aurea. I'm usually not a fan of variegated plants but that one is really beautiful.
And the Sinningia leucotricha is such a striking and cool species! Would you say it's easy care? I recently got a cutting of its relative, S. bullata. I can hardly wait for it to develop a tuber and start producing blooms.
Fern! You are a plant goddess! I love all your plants, thank you for this video. 🧡🌱🧡
That begonia sized up quick!!
omg.. that Begonia paulensis is on my wish list, it is freakin beautiful! I love the look of it so much.
The furry plant looks so soft and adorable :D
I got inspired from one of your videos a year ago or so and got myself 2 majestic cuttings and they are growing up a mosspole now and seizing up and I´m so happy I got that plant, it´s one of my favorites.
Begonias grow really well on a trellis. The lucerna is beautiful
They can mess up the roots making tunnels my sister had that issue with her plants near window they would always come and try to live in her plants!
