The ugly stage is the stage that gives you the most confidence imo. You have to rock your dreads without caring about being judged and this stage helps the most with that. It’s a whole process to enjoy and I love it!
#FACTS
@@GuntherDaGreat what if your hair is 5.5 inches? Would that be considered the ugly stage!

Yoooo maybe that's just an old pic 🤣 I probably shouldn't be laughing but the comment tickled me
Lol
😂😭😍
Today is my one year loc anniversary. I've had my locs for a year now and let me tell you, I am still like "dang when will this ugly stage end"😂😂 its uniqueness for your locs imo. Every hairtype is different and I have 4c (4d) hair so that frizz is no joke lol. Much love to all of yall🙏 and happy holidays
Well said😉
Lol 4d that’s funny, but good for you brother
facts! salute
I got 4C hair and my ugly stage was rough. But I stuck through it and now I’m coming up on 3 years. My locs always get compliments now. Just persevere !!
@@j.vosier6786 wanna have dreads like me
Bro does your dreads stick out or nah?
I just made it to over a year.. what I did to keep me motivated I took pictures of the entire process and man you will be amazed at yourself. So in short, Keep going and love yourself and your locs
yo bro can u upload ur journey?
@@dashboy4l I got you. It's in the works. Holidays pushing stuff back lol
@@Cocofiend93 Post The Journey
Dude post the journey!
I’m doing the same…I take a picture every month
2020 is the perfect year for the ugly stage because you're spending less time in public now.. Salons & barbershops been closed down so the rough look is more common & understandable.. People are focused more on you wearing a mask & keeping away from them, than what's on our heads..
Exactly right now is the best time to start doing dreads we all quarantine still in a way so by the time we kinda get back to normal living ways your dreads are going to be beautiful
If you haven’t started dreads last year wyd????
This man don't miss!!
Can brown people get dreads and by brown I mean Pakistani
@@ahkgaming2.070 Yes.
Just look up all the Caucasians with them.

3:01 exactly! I thought I looked busted but everybody loves the starter locs.
Awww thank you for this video. I’m 5 weeks into my first ever Dreadlocks (aged 57) and was wondering if I made the right decision. So glad I found your video coz now I’m convinced I did and I must embrace the journey🙏🏽your the first person I’ve come across whos hair style looks similar to mine. Once again a big thank you from LONDON England☺️ONE LOVE🙏🏽
i started my locs at the same time you did and im going through the ugly stage ive been using your videos to learn how to keep my locs maintained
Bruh! You are on. You made me had a great locs, i appreciate your effort man
Ima start my locks today, I really appreciate your help. Bro keep the positive energy your one of very few left
Next month make a year since this post
Man I still remember my early lock stages 😰 but it did help me appreciate the process a lot for sure keep up the dope content Gunther
Thanks so much! Future Fellow Natural hair stylist UA-camr here! Again thank you for showing 3c4a hair locing like mine, I’m considering locing again!✊🏽❤️
After about 6 months with no change I almost gave up on my Locs. I discovered the crochet method and it helped!
I’m only about 9 years and 6 months in now.
Im jus finna throw a hat on at this point😂😂
Put that skull cap on first bro! Retain that moisture 😂
@@ChrisfromDevelopment 😂😂
Keep a hoodie my boy lol
@@Renzov12 everyone keep asking if I’m ok if i wear a hood
FR, I’ve been wearing hats for 3 weeks straight now 💀
I’m not ugly, my hair is 🙃
Edit: 2 months in a week! Yee!
Same
Gotta say whats said is pretty spot on. I grew my fro out about 6-7 months before getting comb coils and my hair looked exactly like his, and after a month or so I got a retwist with a crochet hook. This was only 4ish months ago and my locs are already well past my eyes and ears (since I have a full set). I've been getting retwists once a month and every time I walk out of there its like the ugly phase all over again for a few days lmao. Just trust the process
It’s crazy how you cut yours a month or two after I started mine. Now you back & im almost @ a year in February!!! #LocGang
2 months into my hitop set and I'm hype, I started the journey for confidence and spiritual reasons. I heard the longer your locs get the more wisdom you gain over time.
Maybe that’s just u getting older🤔

@The illuminati Kid shut up
@The illuminati Kid i had a haircut three weeks ago sir
@The illuminati Kid i never had dreads 💀
I started my locs over 6 inches and I’m going through the ugly stage bc I’m only 5 months into the journey. I started wearing it up more to hide it but I want to stop. Can’t wait to see my locs get longer.
1) What is the ideal length to start dreads?
2) What are the benefits of doing twists (like you're doing) vs crochet hooks?
Thanks because Im just brushing and washing and using gel. Can't wait until my hair gets longer or look cooler like your first set of dreads
With the hair type you have, there is no ugly stage.
Seriously
Im sorry but this man knows how to drag a video
I remember I started a free form just to avoid the “ugly” stage but then I cut them off late last year, I had waves for 2 months and I got bored, so now I’m growing my hair back out and I’m getting my hair twisted in about a week
I dare you to stick it out at LEAST 6 months. I’m on my third set, 2 months in a week.
The Man almost 2 months in on the 2nd of mext month and u really been helping me out
Back at it 🙏🏾
I always have a hood on in school😂 good thing we on Christmas break lol
I started my locs on supershort hair (less than 3 inches) with the sponge method and then moved on to interlocking. Honestly I dont think they look bad/ugly at all.
One word about the video: GREAT
January coming will be 1 year since I’ve been growing my hair, the plan is to go another year and then loc it up, curious to see and show y’all how it looks.
Being care free is the key. Enjoy other things in life, it will help with distracting you and the time goes by fast.
I took my locing process like a G. I went through the ugly stage in the summer so I couldn’t wear hats my locs pretty af now
Good work,great job, great gunther
Ur hairs looking great ✨
I’m going through the ugly stage but my hair is long enough for braids so I get them braided every 2 weeks and get a cut so it never looks “ugly” even though it’s not ugly it’s just not at the length I want it yet
Fasho brudda don't give up on da process
Start ur dreads in the fall , winters so you can wear a beanie till your comfortable
yessir doing
Start with longer hair, problem solved. Worked for me
Yea that’s what I’m doing I jus took my two strains out
Im starting mines in 2 strand twists, by leaving them in two-strands then taking them apart after 2 months kinda how ja morant started wish me luck ‼️
You oughtta just leave the two strands in fam, they’ll lock in two strand form. So by separating after two months, you’ll undo a lot of locking that has happened in the first 2 months. I started mine with two strands. If you want a higher dread count, make sure your two strand sections aren’t too big.
@@petersullivan1409 Correct.two strand twist is a very good method. You can dictate how thick you want them and they look boom when matured.Just avoid gels /waxes. You don't want then trapped inside your locs.
@@locsman wish I had known the gel thing on my first set lol. So much build up !
I went through my ugly stage and I started towel rub but my scalp was exposed on the sides(beedee bee) so I just combed my hair out, it was still short so I'll prob wait for full year and just get instant dreads. For more context I was 4 or 5months in I think now. Da ugly stage tuff
Great info! Thank you
Currently in the stage I honestly like them , especially after I shaped up my hair
I have about 4 more months with the ugly stage until my hair is long enough. This is the most patience I’ve had in some time.
Video was amazing!
I'm doing natural free form, no towel, no sponge, just letting them be. My hair is 3c/4a and about 7 inches stretched out. After just 5 days the back of my hair already has 3 baby dreads.
Oh hey, we have the same hair type mixture! I also used to get matted hairs after just a few days of not detangling properly. I just started finger coils on my hair. What does your process look like now? I'm curious!
Your hair is growing fam🙏🏾
Omg! My hair is same as yours. Same everything
Hey Gunther
Love the video you make. I have a question last year I had dread locs until I got hit by a drunk driver. So my wife had to comb out my dreads but it’s been a year since then so now I’m doing two strand twist but my hair seem so thin so what should I do?
im new
but i know u do what do u love📈📈📈🔥
Very true it,s gonna Grow Good
Next retwist can we get a close up like an in depth look at your hair?
Gunther your growing my man
Hey man love the video but I have a question what are the name of the glasses you wear? It's super cool I love them
When did you cut your hair and when did you start growing it again?
Noti gang ❤️❤️❤️❗️❗️❗️
I went through the ugly stage, and I wanted to cut it but I went through and grew my dreads out for a extra 8 months
We say "baby dreads". I didnt love love my dreads until I could ponytail 😅. Ill get them again one day
Even with the crochet hooking I'm passing through an "ugly stage" but I like it
Yo Gunther your tripping you look good bro
Yo how is you so far already!
Damn ....
I hate to say it but I did not make it out the ugly stage. Just yesterday I was contemplating if I should take them out or not since they were so short and ugly and I’m so impatient so I took them out sadly
Your “ugly stage”, is really fye 🔥💯😭 no kizzy

@@AK-jy3pe 😅😅
Thank you
i just got instant locs bc my curl pattern was JACKED and now it’s too straight and damaged. i lost half my length from back combing so i feel i’m in the ugly stage too just bc it’s short
Love this channel this guy since i watched him has had so many different hair styles and makes them look gr8 every time
I'm 2 years in wit my locs I just started my boyfriends hair and hates loc process
I’ve got straight 4 inch hair and I really want dreads... idk if I should wait for like 6 inches or just go for it
Glad you got the locs back bruv!!! Don’t cut em again this time 😎😂😂😂😂😂
Do your dreadlocks grow if you get dreads with stright hair like do my dreads grow or does my straight hair mess up my dread locks
feliz navidad 🎁🎅
Too late I’m already in it... if only I was subscribed I would know before hand😁u have a new subscriber
I just started mine last night lol
I'm going free I feel like I avoided the ugly stage. For one,I have a high top fade 2. My hair was about 5-6 inches when I started last May and my hair is thick . 3. Mine are free form so it just looks like I have the "thot boy" cut rn . Also free forming hides the scalp ,which I love
I’m between 4b and 4c I’m beginning my locs just 4 days in but my locs keep unraveling, what should I do? The low back of my hair looks like a pill of unraveling hair.
What will happen if I free form with sections and then braid it cuz I wanna braid my hair to much
Can we pls get a video on how avoid stunting hair growth
I have wavy hair and I used to have dreadlocks and then I cut them and I started growing my hair out and now I’m starting to dread my hair but only on one side let you know on ig
Where is the video where you show the dos and don’t for healthy hair growth and healthy scalp
I love this stage
I believe I may have similar hair texture as you, do you have issues with your ends budding?
Yo bro another fye video
I’m in the military for another 9 months and by the time I get out I will have about 15 months of Afro that I will lock. Will my locs be the same length as someone that started growing their hair at the same time but but stated the locking process months ahead of me?
Your hair will shrink either way once you lock it. That’s what mine did. I had A LOT of hair when I was a loose natural but once I locked it it shrunk a lot. But once they start to lock they will begin to lock. I’m 9 months in now.
What does twist and rip look like on curly hair
I have like shoulder length hair and I'm doing twist with gel any advice
When’s a good time to stop free-forming/towel rub and finally get it retwisted for the first time
re-twisting thins the roots and hair out. Eventually they will break or drop out. Best stick to free form/towel/sponge
Millz yeah but isn’t that if it’s too tight when it becomes a problem? Also if you don’t care for your hair well enough. Just a normal retwist should be fine especially if you don’t want the messy dreads looks anymore.
@@AndyDProductions Hi.Yes if it too tight or done too often you may experience problems in the later years.
Millz ah okay, thanks
theres no link below that says "what is my hair type"

*I NEED A REPLY* I have 3C hair should I freeform or should I towel rub like what should I do to get dreads like XXX
Personally I love the ugly stage I love how it looks so to me the ugly stage is one of my best stages
Omg after reading this I'm convinced about this too. I feel like I look wild af with my """ugly stage""".
Next time you review dreads can you do hotboiis
I want to try dreads man but I can't lie I'm scared I have heard so much about them growing up that if you keep them in for 2 weeks to a month they a lock on you and if you want to get your afro back you can't you have to cut it all off or dreads a make your hair real thin so I always got braids instead I been growing my hair for a 1 year and 6 months now but I still want to try them in spite of what I heard any tips ?
I cut my hair down to to my eyebrows in August and right now my hair is almost down to my chin
react to ceedee lambs dreads and how he keeps them curly please
What can i use other than a crochet needle
Could u make a video of people that used youre locking kit
I have dreads from his masterclss and his tools they work perfectly
Dope
Should my hair be movable or shake in the "ugly stage" ? because mine are stiff and stuck in the same position. They're the same length as yours too
Trust the process 😂
They’ll move after they get longer. It’s normal.
Yeah they don't move when in the early stages except when its completely soaked in water
I don’t believe in an ugly stage. You start your dreadlocks, they’re short, you wait and then they’re long. Pretty clear to me.
