@@mikavansuilichemone of Spider-Man’s most depressing stories
3:13 I never fully understood why so many people like Spider-Man, now I know why
*One of Spiderman's most depressing stories* "Do you have the slightest idea how little that narrows it down?"
Almost as hard as figuring out batman's identity
@kazemizu Honestly, It's a fifty fifty on how easy that is. It could be chalked up to the richest guy in the area, or maybe the people think that's too easy of an answer, especially sense the richest guy in the area is such a self centered douche bag ladies man. He gives them the idea they want to see, the rich guy is just another rich douche. If they can believe that, why would they connect the dots in money? He's the richest guy in Gotham not the only person around with that kind of money.
@@convoid1888yt search batman beyond reveals his identity
Actually true
@cartoonistlouis773 FIL theory/matpat, had a theory that explains that clearly and makes it very understandable on how it is possible and easy to accept.
If Captain America himself says you're one of the greatest men he's ever known, case closed, no more interviews needed.
Yep. Couldn’t agree more
All I want is for Peter to have a stable life, with the woman he loves and family he deserves. He’s a fictional character but just, please. He’s earned it.
I couldn't agree more. Just let the guy rest
It’s frustrated that Spider-Man dosent get a stable job and relationship and family and we get it he’s supposed to be related but not like that it’s just awful he needs to be Happy
Yes absolutely!
@@ultimatederek1815 IRL people not always have stable jobs and relationship, and they don't spend time in Spider-Man suit. Peter just can't be everywhere and have time to anything he wants. Sad, but that's life of Spider-Man.
@@perfectsoul3419 yea but the part where Spiderman gets chucked it’s un relatable do to the fact that some Maya God transport to another dimension with your Girlfriend you tried to get back Home you end up being the one getting back home and the. Going back to rescue your girl only to find out she cheated on your for four years that’s un relatable Fr I hate so much that story
Sometimes I forget that Spiderman is fictional, because for almost my whole life he's been real to me, more real than any other character out there.
It's because he's relatable to the ordinary folk, to the average Joe. The other heroes also have their human side, but the way they behave and think aren't really relatable to your average citizen because they see being a hero as a profession, why for Spiderman it's not like that.
THIS. This is EXACTLY why I love Spider-Man in a nutshell and hands down possibly the best representation of Peter Parker in modern comics. And part of what makes him so timeless is that people don't only make mistakes, fail, and experience hardship when they're teenagers. We mess up throughout life, no matter what age we are. And Peter's no exception.
However long we live or wise & experienced we become, we're NEVER perfect. This is one reason I fundamentally reject the "Spider-Man can't grow up because he's more reletable as a teen" argument. No, he can't grow up because writing him as a teen is more familiar and easier to market to kids (despite the fact that his audience grew beyond kids decades ago).
A fallible Spider-Man is relatable to any age demographic that resonates with his struggles, however old or young he is in-universe. And history shows that some of the most critically successful stories are the ones set at different stages of Peter's life beyond high school-college. It's not the age range that dictates Peter's relatability, it's the humanity of his fallibility.
Specifically, it's relatable to people of potentially any age how this protagonist at his best is written like a believable human being with imperfections that can come back to bite him. He suffers, stumbles, falls, cries, rages, gets scared, feels guilty for not doing better, and occasionally despairs or wants to quit. All of this is what makes Peter great: The man, not the spider.
That humanity is his greatest strength and weakness, depending on how it's used. But in the end, Peter learns from his errors, stands up, and perseveres. So long as he's physically/mentally able to go on, Spider-Man will ALWAYS try to do good. To quote Jennifer Tilly's Madame Leota, "You try, you fail. You try, you fail. But the only true failure is when you stop trying."
Don't tell me, I started as a teen during Erik Larsen run, that was basically a soap opera with a ton of adult-only subtext. It was great, I will always love it.
And thats why Peter B. Parker is so loved since spiderman into the spiderverse
@@elalan4879 Agreed, I didn't like him and Mary Jane getting divorced but they have broken up for myriad reasons before in the comics so it's not out of character. It's equally in character, however, for their love to be so strong that they can always find their way back to each other in the end even if it takes a long while.
And I'm so happy that they not only reconciled but had a child together. It's understandable why some prefer Peter being with someone else or remaining single, whatever their reasons. Some fans, writers, and staff at Marvel just don't like MJ or think Peter being single is more responsible, practical, interesting, etc.
I personally think an older Pete can be equally or even more interesting after his time as Spider-Man is over, when he leaves NYC to a successor (Miles, Mayday, etc.) and supports them in a role more like how Tony Stark once supported him. He can still do a lot of good for others as a scientist, professor, and/or inventor.
He could become like a Lucius Fox and/or Alfred figure to the next generation of webslingers, regularly improving their new Spidey's gadgets & collaborating on new tools, repairing damage on suits + crafting new versions for different missions, sharing wisdom from his crime-fighting days with new blood, etc.
In serious emergencies (Ex- Avenger-level threat), Peter could occasionally suit up again with an advanced suit to compensate for his age (He'd be past his physical prime but still pretty powerful, not a weakened old man). But as long as Marvel's old heads keep regressing Peter, that won't happen in canon anytime soon.
Top comment !💫
I love this story because of how raw it felt seeing Spidey show up at the warehouse and absolutely dismantling the criminals.
Haven't seen Pete portrayed that angry since Back in Black
he was also insanely angry in grim hunt after kaine sacrificed himself for him
If there's anyone I trust the most to write a heartfelt/interesting Spider-man story, it's Chip Zdarsky definitely
This is who Spider-Man is.

Jefferson Davis said it best, “A hero is just a guy who doesn’t give up.” It aligns perfectly with the great power and greater responsibility quote
I wish there were more situations where superheroes don't always save someone, much like how in healthcare, there is often times where someone is in a situation where they can't be saved. Seeing superheroes go through the feelings after would be good for people to read and understand.
Trust me I’m BEGGING for the writers of the next Miles morales spider man movie to make it so he DOESNT save his dad because this is the exact thing I wanna see.
Yap, makes them feel more relatable and in terms we appreciate them more cause they’re more relatable. Not exactly the same situation, but Tony in iron man 3 is a good example. Throughout the movie we see him suffering from PTSD, having panic attacks and what not cause of what happened in avengers 1 brings him closer down to earth in a good way
This story is actually really sweet and amazing. It may have sad undertones but it truly understands the character, this is Spider-Man. I really hope we get to see more of this in depth and personal relationship between Spider-Man and the public in Spider-Man 4.
I would love if a recreation of this comic was the ending of Spider-Man 4, I think it would fit really well
spider-man 4 isn’t happening
@@ninjafrog6966 Yes it is though
Ok this is really sad, but,
0:59 Wakandonuts? That’s amazing
5:54 those are the same clothes Peter wore in his first appearance 😭😭😭
The comic reminds me of Spider-Man 1 (2002)'s interview montage of all citizens giving their thoughts on Spider-Man, but this comic pushing it further and make it more touching and emotional, Chip Zdarsky is such good writer.
hotdog man could have been the most popular hotdog vendor in the city if he advertised that spiderman eats there everyday
Kyle's mom: they killed him, they killed my son!
Peter: .... *Black suit theme*
Nah bro… Prowler theme
Miguel Theme
There’s this Spiderman comic that always makes me tear up but almost no one covers it. It’s about this kid who is in an abusive household and every time he goes into his room he imagines Spiderman and talks to him the issue ends with the kids mom passing away and the kid has to leave his house and he has to say goodbye to imaginary Spiderman The Spiderman tells him that men don’t hug they shake hands and he unmasks himself as an African American Spiderman. I have no idea what issue it is but it really hits the feels.
I'd like to know the issue too

@@dotted_stains2792 yes that’s the story thank you so much!
Damn i just watched a video about that one, yeah i can confirm it gets you in the feels
One of the greatest things to learn about Spider-man legacy in the future in the comics is that in the far far far future where cable (X-Men characters) is from. Cable says to Spider-Man that he is the only one who is vividly remembered as THE greatest hero of all time, while most of the heroes faded away which I think is sweet.
He's our "friendly neighborhood, Spider-man."
one of the reasons i love spider-man hes so down to earth and truly the friendly neighborhood spider-man unlike other heroes he always has a down to earth feeling
As long as you exist, someone will hate you no matter who you are or what you do. That’s just a fact of life. If you think nobody hates you, you either don’t get out much or you’re lying to yourself. The fact Peter lives with this every day, knowing he’s doing his best but no matter what he does he’ll always be hated by at least somebody, that’s real perseverance and determination. He’s human. He makes mistakes. And those mistakes will always be held against him no matter what. And he keeps going and doing his best. He’s a great role model. He’s not a billionaire like stark, a military man like rogers, or a scientist like banner or richards (although he is definitely smart enough to be one), he’s a kid from queens. He does what’s right because it’s right. Not because he wants something out of it. He represents everything I want to be. If I got bitten by a radioactive spider, I know I wouldn’t be as good as Peter but I’d damn well try to be. (I mean there’s also the issue of be being a girl not a guy but that’s secondary. I’d still try to be a spider-person like him.)
even if you are a girl that's not an issue, you can be the best spider-woman
I love Spider-Man. He is the greatest superhero of all time. One thing I have noticed about most great superheroes is that they didn't choose to be a superhero; through tragedy, they were pushed into being one. Spider-Man embodies sacrifice, perseverance, and overcoming personal challenges. And that's what I love about Spider-Man.
I like to imagine this story also happened in Spiderverse 1610 (movie Miles' universe). I'd then like to think the guy would make a second documentary interviewing the same people after the news of his death... Maybe even asking the new Spider-Man (Miles)... It'd be so sad but also kinda bittersweet...
What an amazing story. It really embodies the character of Spider-Man.
this brought me to literal tears bro
Salute to Spider-Man for making his Uncle Ben proud with his great care and responsibilities 👏🏾 ❤❤
When Spider-Man stops making quips, you know he's furious.
Spider man is literally me ngl
Man I LOVE these kind of Spider-Man comics/stories. So Realistic. So down to earth. Really hits you right in the feels. THIS is Spider-Man. This is the character we all know and love.
That really does capture the essence of the guy I've been reading about since 1972.
There is deadpool comic that showed deadpool saving person from suicide. Also there is comic of superman saving person from suicide. I love comics that show humanity of super heros and not just fighting.
there is also a Hitman issue with Tommy Monaghan comforting Superman that is having a breakdown.
This Story was Beautiful, I teared watching this, People need to see this side of the story in Cinemas, the side of a normal bystanders perspective and how one Person can make a difference for better or worse, this is why love Spiderman ❤
when i read this a couple of years ago i cried so hard both for peter and kyle
i can't imagine how hard that would be in real life
if i were in spidermans shoes i would have been heartbroken, blamed myself and i honestly think i would have lost control and possibly killed the criminals and may have called it a day and quit being spiderman after that
One of the best Spider-Man stories ever. Instant classic.
damn that is one of the most beautiful comics Ive ever heard
I was talking to my wife earlier about Spider-Man. She asked me who was my top five comic book characters. Spider-Man is in the top 3. IT’s stories like this is why I love Spider-Man.
This is why SpiderMan is my favorite hero. Right here. This entire comic.
This is actually my favorite spider-man comic: it really encapsulates what Spider-Man is about and what he goes through
This is one of the best comics holy shit. Also Cap jumpscare lmao
This is why spider man is the greatest marvel dc super hero
This is the spider man stanley believes in.
Spider man is the best marvel character we can all relate to this character
Stories like this are what I'd love to see in a tv show.
That peter parker is a good friend to spiderman
Hands down the best superhero ever created imo.
He's right about Cap.
if Captain America says that about you, you will never have to question yourself about if you're doing the right thing ever again. The level of confidence that would give me would be out of this world, changing me forever.
That is such a beautiful story.
It’s characters like these that keep me going through life 🥹
Please check out Spectacular Spider-Man Vol 2 14
This issue to me is the reason i will always be inspired by Spider-Man and respect Peter Parker for going through all the pain he's suffered in life and still go out of his way to make others smile.
this was beautiful, truly the beauty of comics encapsulated in one of em
First spider-man story with a wholesome ending
Peter Parkers the best. probably one of the best role models youths can choose.
Masterfully written
This is why Spider-Man is my favorite superhero of all ❤
Zdarsky gets the character and the tone of his series, excellent work.
Spidey on the roof like " Sorry Kyle, another person I failed just like Captain Stacey and Uncle Ben..."😢
Fantastic. This is why we need superheroes-- examples, no matter how fictional, of overcoming obstacles and strife. Showing us not what we are-- but what we _can_ be!
I almost shed a tear
Even the I a wholesome story he suffers
Spider man is one of if not THE most selfless heroes of all time.
This story reminded me of the quote from the movie titled Schindler's list " He who saves one life saves the world entire".
It's bittersweet, seeing the appreciation of Pete but also the death of Kyle.
This is why i love spider man
Loved this
People are terrible when they choose to hate what they don't understand, and let themselves be blinded by the truth of how the one person is actually a good soul. If they were to take the time to see the good qualities for themselves they would see that Spider-Man is a true here. Too bad there are those too stubborn to get rid of the blind in their eyes. It's an everyday factor of human kind.
This is great!
Spider-man has the best storys a lot of the time
I hear that insomniac theme in the background nice! Bro actually said hella😂 6:15
One of the saddest and yet greatest Spiderman stories ever. I'm so glad your video came on viewing choices. New subscriber.
The Insomniac Spider-Man game theme at the end is a nice touch.
I was really hoping Peter was gonna tell him he found out from an old friend and it would just be him catching up with the mom. Just plays into his character of being involved in peoples lives.
Chip zdarsky is such a great spiderman writer.
Man this was so good I need to read the entire Chip Zdarsky Spidey run. Planning to do the same with his Daredevil and Howard The Duck run as well. I think these will be good to start my first time reading a comic book run
I love spider-man so much bro
Spider man the most compassionate hero
The fact that Peter actually went to get a hotdog every day is HILARIOUS
And I wept. Spiderman is my favorite Marvel Hero
In a lot of superhero stuff common people are generally a hive-mind meant to represent irrational respect trust or animosity towards the hero a lot of the time writers failed to remember individuals people have their own poorly thought-out and well-thought-out opinions and cognitive dissonance, this is a trademark of a good writer
It's nice. This book is nice.
Superheroes are those characters that make you believe in hope. I guess you could say that they guide us. In a way. We read all these comics of our favourite heroes and heroines and spend time in their world and then we're able to make our real one just a little bit better.
Spider-Man must need like 2 hours sleep if he can keep up a double identity, a relationship, a job and tutor a kid on his maths homework.
i imagine the superhero community having quite a bit of a snicker at the fact that the last interview in the documentary (if it ever gets a release) is the man himself.
Imagine the Punisher getting a story like this.
Ok but imagine all of those webs on the walls of random buildings when he swings and imagine how pissed those building cleaners are every day they have to clean those sticky webs
if Gavin I Konop makes a sequel to Lotus, he should adapt this story!
Take this upvote.
3:10 Okay, why did that just make me gasp and clutch my pearls? THAT'S SO CUUUUUTEEEE!!!
Deep.
Spider Man suffers a lot in his comic books. One favorite issue is when spider man was some kind dimensional war. Every spider man was there, every hero and people he knew. This when after he found Gwen having green goblin children and Mary Jane marrying a another man in a different dimension. A lot of terrible things happen to him. As goes on he saves everything, but at a cost. He lost apart of himself. In that final fight. Marvel answered fans is spider man really holding back his powers? Yes he was. He really showed everyone, what truly powerful spider man looks like. Defeat the person that caused him to let go. Broke spider man. He didn’t kill him, but kind and caring spider man is. You can imagine how he felt. After that fight everyone saw him differently in the end of issue. Was it fear? Was it sadness? I really think he was tired of everything and showed he’s human. Spider Man went back to normal after that. Never read anything about it. I guess marvel doesn’t want their characters to really be broken, just sad. But great issue.
I don't really find it depressing. It's sad? Hell, yes. Depressing? Maybe a little, but in the end there he is, Peter Parker, proving that Cap is right about Spidey. How strong you should be to have Spidey's powers and not become Frank Castle with those two goons?
u my friend, deserve a big chanel bc u are a good person as well.
This is gonna sound weird, but spidey saved me. I was being picked on daily, stopped talking unless spoken to. I just wanted to be invisible and yet I was so lonely. And yeah, suicidal. I was reading comics. The old horror ones, I think they matched my mood back then. I picked up a spidey book when I was 12. This little nerdy quiet kid who had super powers. Far from perfect, made so many mistakes but kept going every day. For some reason, i wanted to be like spidey. My life wasnt perfect, but i kept trying. It really felt like I had a friend. And When I pick up the next graphic novel and sit in the corner, I visit my friend and he tells me a story. Love you Spidey.
damn thats deep uncle ben must be proud.
Peter should have a stable job Marrying mj have a kid. I admit I was one of the people who wanted a young Spider-Man. I think he’s already physically mature, why not let him mature emotionally. Let him still have that same personality, but let him live his life. Eventually 616 will reset so who cares
Tragic plot but good ending
He just want to help
Dang that was really good.
Get chip zdarsky back as the main writer god dammit!!!
Okay I was convinced he was going to wail on those goons for what they did. Like the cops were going to show up and they "fell off the roof" a few times.
But Spidey's a good guy.
Did not expect to see a child death off screen
It was ironically the most comical and cartoonish version of Spiderman, SpiderHam who outlined the most tragic element of being Spiderman.
"Miles, the hardest thing about this job is, is that you can't you can't always save everyone"
