Hey Niko, I ran a 2:24 as a freshman and need to desperately improve for sophomore season. Goal is to get a D1 scholarship and I have been working harder than ever for it. Right now I'm consistently running 40 miles a week including tempo runs for cross country. What else can I be doing?
@@mikey_salv once your season is over make sure to start doing speed workouts like 350s/450s/500’s. You will being running sub 2:10 in no time! Sounds like your endurance is great now all you need is your speed
@@enkay4497 yeah bro but dont everythink it, your stride changes with the race so just make sure to stay relaxed and your body will take care of the rest
Hey man, cant join a club cuz i do other sports. I run a 2:18 800m. I am 15 at the end of this month. Do you reckon it is possible to break 2 in one year?
Absolutely you can man, i went from 2:19 to 1:59 in 1 year. Start doing 4 mile morning runs twice a week before school and you will get there! I believe in you man!
i really wanted to run a sub 2 in the 800 my sophomore year but my coach kept putting me in 4 events almost every meet and i kept running the 800 less than 20 minutes after the 400 and ran 2:10, but the one time he let me run it fresh i solo’d most of the race snd ended up running 2:05 and 2:08 but he went back to putting me in 4 events after 😭
Hey, I run 2:19 in seventh grade and I’m going for a sub 2:05 this year and maybe sub 2 freshman year. I’m currently running 30 miles a week in cross country with tempo runs included. What more can I do to get better?
it is difficult to do and you are selling your self short of a pr. but some people can do it and others cant. not saying you shouldnt but it should not be your goal to negative split. it just kinda happens yk?
2:02.7 14 yr old here. Next 800 is next week. Will be shooting for 2 flat (or better!) I’m racing against U20s, U17s - how do you deal with racing against older/bigger guys?
@@flavored_1 thanks. I try not to drift to the rail. Sometimes I forget and find myself boxed in and elbowed by the bigger bodies. When I stay outside of lane 1/inside lane 2 things work out better
@@tizioincognito.3330 I've ran 1:54, 3:58 and 8:33 so you're probably right. Just depends if you're strong or fast I guess and what your training's like
Ignore this bad advice, this guy is clueless when it comes to helping others. If you are close to going sub-2 then you will need to come through no slower than 58...... if you go through in 59 I guarantee you that you will come home in 2:00 or 2:01...... trust me I ran sub 2 in the 1970s and I am still helping runners. Seen it 1000s times and a 59 wont cut it the first time..... Aim for high 57, and work that 3 1/4 fast and smooth. Ignore the fools who say you have to run it evenly because the first time is different - your lungs and stomach will remind you of it at the end of the race too. (and if you are female pbs will only come when you pb the first lap)
Cmon Unc, im tryna teach the next generation of athletes here. Everyone has their own way of coaching the 800 and i broke 2 running the first lap in 59 58 57 56 there are so many ways to do it. You CAN'T limit an athletes race strategy just based on whats worked in the past, you have to INNOVATE! I appreciate the comment though, bless up!

I ran 2:15 this freshman season, but also ran a 10:05 3200. Do you think i can break 2 by my senior year?
If you work speed. I know guys you would beat over 3200m, and they run 2:03 and 2:02

Go in with the mindset that if you lose, they’re older and bigger, but if you win, you are AMAZING for your age/size
