    Outdoor goal is sub 50, 400. Current or is 54~55 so I really got to put in work. I’m trying to work on more top speed than endurance because I like going out hard for my 400s. I think that works the best for me

    Best of luck in all things Niko. I ran a 1:50.3 as a jr in high school. Tore my IT band sr yr in a car crash. Fully recovered, but when I went to college my training was so different I didn't trust the process at all and stayed up nights playing video games. I broke 1:50 ONCE in college. After college, I was mentally done with track but couldn't lesve the sport with thise college prs. Got down to 1:47.3/46.3 just trusting my coach and doing some little things.
    Tldr: trust the process, control the things you can control (sleep, nutrition, recovery, injury prevention etc). I'll be rooting for you good sir!

      Yeah so I actually did it the other day too. We did 1 minute of jumping jacks, 1 minute of body weight squats, then 1 minute of pushups, then 30 seconds rest then 1,000 meters at 3 minutes. Then 2 minutes rest, then line jumps at a minute, jumping jacks, then sit ups, then an 800 at 2:25, then body weight stuff, then a 600 at 1:45 pace. Then a 400 at 69

    Does your coach tell you your workout beforehand? My coach has this thing where we show up, warm up, spike up and everything and he only tells us what the workout is right before we start. Could be short sprints, could be 800m repeats, could be 400s at racepace, really anything. It’s this "be ready for anything" mentality and I’m not sure if I like it 💀

    • @nikoschultz4306
      @nikoschultz4306  8 місяців тому +2

      Haha my old coach used to do that but my current coach actually sends us our workouts a whole month in advance. So we know what is coming but he does not put the times on it so we go in guessing how fast the workout will be.

    • @dhoye1225
      @dhoye1225 2 місяці тому

      This is hilarious and I feel you lol my coach, after college, wouldn't tell us what we were doing while we're running sometimes. He'd give us 100m splits as we were running. My mile PR of 4:07 is in practice and I didn't know what I was doing while I was doing it 😅

    Some of this advice is priceless. If you are a young athlete (younger than Niko I mean) you will not hear better advice from anyone on this planet than the advice he gives about the importance of looking after yourself from @14:14 Without looking after yourself you will never achieve your maximum potential. Not so sure about the training and low mileage throughout the year even for 400/800 runner but we are individuals and it is definitely not one size fits all.

    super helpful video! do you have any advice on how i can tell if speed based or endurance based training works best for me? i WANT to be more of a 400/800 runner, but idk if the genes want that or if they want me to be 800-5k runner lol

    • @nikoschultz4306
      @nikoschultz4306  7 місяців тому +1

      I gotchu! If your coach is constantly throwing you in the 4x4 and if you can keep up with your sprinter teamates but you also can hang with your distance teamates in workout then you are a hybrid 800/400 guy.
      If it takes you a while to get going speed wise and those speed workouts are killing you then you are more of a 800/1600 guy.
      Where do you think you fall now given that info?

      @@nikoschultz4306 ok thanks for the replay! i think i’m probably more of a 4/8 runner, im in 10th grade and in my meet today ran 2:12 for my 800 and 55 for my first 4x4, but i know i can improve quite a bit this season because the past month i’ve been biking instead of running because of shin injury’s.

      @nikoschultz4306  7 місяців тому

      I dropped my weight lifting training plan in another video and I got a discord w my weekly training that you can join! Speed based 800m runners do very different training vs distance based runners. We do a lot more agresive speed work vs a distance runner who does a lot more threshold work. Best of luck walking on bro!
