    Loved this video Chad. Love the fact you had that eureka moment. I'm lucky enough to be having lessons with Matt Banister, one of the leading S&T coaches in the UK. I'm pushing on to 60 and having the best golf of my life. I've followed so many golf theories from coaches on UA-cam with some success but until you have lessons with someone who specialises in that field I feel that you only scratch at the surface. Keep it up Chad, love watching what you do whether it's the doctrines of Jim Veturos, Brian Sparks, Manuel del, I've been on the same journey as you and countless many others who search for the holy grail of golf. How lucky are we to have this wonderful UA-cam community. As the British comedian Jimmy Tarbuck and avid golfer once said "if you play golf, your already my friend" great work Chad!

    Well done Chad. I did Caly Ballards 20 minute distance fix. Same premise of whatbyour doing but i went from a baseline swing speed of 93 miles per hour and topped out at 118 miles per hour. After a month of his program my Driver swing speed base line is 103 miles per hour. Thats the difference of 230 totals yard to getting to 270 total. Its crazy and no workouts just 20 mountes a day doing his drills and letting your body figure it out. Glad to see the improvement your making. Keep at it.

    What I took away from this was that being on plane is the key. At least that is just what worked for me out in my garage. From 225 carry to 235-240 carry in one session. Not even swinging hard. Can’t wait to give it a go tomorrow.

    Bravo, Chad. 😊 Golf is a very strange and difficult game, the fix, as you correctly said, is usually the opposite of what you think. Keep it up and you’ll be at 100 mph club head speed in no time. The secret is not caring where the ball goes or where you hit it on the face. As I said in your last video, you can dial in hitting it solid after you’ve increased your speed. The worst thing you can do is try to stir the club, all that does is slow down the swing and make all your shots weak, and to make matters worst, you still don’t hit it solidly. Cheers.

    I'm so happy for you Chad! I was holding off on commenting on the last video or so because I didn't want to get in the way, but IMO things were straying off course. Really quick inside takeaway and an overall very shallow and deep backswing combined with a hyper focus on hip firing coming down... well if that was me my ball would be ending up two to three fairways on the right. : -).
    You look so much more comfortable now. I want to share a mental breakthrough I had recently (in hopes it adds to your / our community here) after studying many pro swings that were already in slow motion but playing those at 25% speed. We hear a lot about "a one-piece takeaway". Okay, fair enough, but there is a subtle (and I'd argue monumental) difference between what the pros are really doing vs. an iron triangle one-piece. On every single pro swing I've watched it doesn't take very long at all early in the backswing before the club (shaft) starts to slightly outpace the hands and arms (relaxed hands and wrists), and in turn the arms and hands start to slightly outpace the shoulder turn (relaxed shoulder muscles and ball and socket joints - this outpacing continues throughout the entire backswing - good shoulder turn but the arms are swinging more than the shoulder turn through relaxed ball and socket joints and shoulder muscles). This doesn't mean aggressively forcing these movements, but once I saw the difference from the "rigid one-piece takeaway" it helped me to better understand the importance of a relaxed (but still structurally disciplined) swing.
    One more thought that goes back 40 years to my minor in college in exercise physiology. I don't remember much from those days but do recall a thing or two. One of those is a fancy term called "reciprocal inhibition". That relates to the fact that for virtually every human movement you have muscles that need to contract (shorten) and also have "reciprocal movement" muscles that need to elongate. For example, to do a bicep curl the bicep muscle must contract while the tricep muscle must elongate. A smooth dance-like golf swing finds the right balance between those two in the many "pairs" that are taking place throughout the entire swing. Nervous tension throws a monkey wrench into this (creates "reciprocal inhibition") in that when we get too nervous we can actually send contraction signals to both sets of muscles and the only way we can move (rigidly and not smoothly) is by sending a stronger contraction signal to the muscle that needs to shorten than the contraction signal we are sending to the muscle that needs to elongate. Maybe that's a bit too nerdy but it's helpful to me to reinforce that relaxed breathing, relaxed muscles (don't lose our disciplined structure though) and trying as much as we can to swing with confidence goes a long way to balance those opposing movements. And it certainly can't hurt in the quest for higher swing speeds. : -)

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  11 місяців тому +1

      I have to agree with being relaxed. Absolutely. And without even studying as you did, I can grasp the concept of muscles acting in opposing ways to create balance. Thanks for the food for thought, and the kind words.

    Glad to see you so obviously positive on your potential for improvement! I have often told you that you need to get the club up more in front of you and higher faster. What you did later was giving the impression of doing that but when I look at it more closely, the biggest difference that I could see between earlier and later swings was that you were keeping more width at the top. I believe that there was less collapsing of your arc and net crossing of the line because you weren't trying so hard to come from the inside. The freedom to come from higher and more outside gave you more freedom to preserve width at the top. This essentially gets the club coming straighter down the line on a shallower angle and with less rapid closure of the clubface, hence more height and a freeer less restrained release for more speed.
    One of the biggest sources of power in the golf swing is keeping the lower spine angle through impact. In other words, the angle between the hip sockets and the lower spine. This is something that you will see in all big hitters because this causes the most efficient transfer of the club shaft around the axis of the spine with maximum maintenance of wrist cock (lag) thus ensuring maximum leverage. You are currently losing quite of bit of your lower spine angle in your driver swing although I'm very encouraged to see you preserving more than I've ever seen of hip depth and swinging the club down much closer to the plane line than I've ever seen you do before with a driver.
    One of the reasons that this lower spine angle is lost is because golfers have trouble swinging back into an impact posture that closely resembles their address posture. This is often caused by golfers just not having a sense of where their hips and knees were at address. Having studied thousands of swings of great players, I can tell you that one of the most distinguishing features of these swings is that DTL, views invariably show that by the time these players get their hips back to parallel to the target line, their knees are also parallel to the that same line and their hips are virtually at the identical height and depth that they were at at address. In other words, they have recovered their address position quite strikingly with the sole exception that their hips are already on averge 6-8 inches closer to the target. In addition, their lower spine angle also closely approximates what they had at address. This relationship with address forms the differential (power linkage) of the golf swing because of how it preserves leverage into impact. Amazingly when Champ reaches this position his arms have only dropped slightly from his top of swing position which goes a long way towards explaining his extraordinary power since from that point on he is just turning his hips and firing his angled lower spine through impact with incredible retention of shaft angle.
    I have experimented with the power of this dynamic a lot and can tell that the difference it can make is incredible and when I have done this the best, the feeling of power through the ball is mind blowing while the movement that produced that power seems ridiculously simple. It becomes the experience of having every bit of effort up to that point being tranferred directly into power at impact. If you can learn to get your hips and knees to the described position while preserving lower spine angle, you will definitely maximize your power.
    It's not that hard to do but it's something that feels different than most golfers would expect since it feels less like turning and more like moving into a transitional position. In fact, the feeling of turning can really screw golfers up because it often ends up superceding posture instead of serving it and indeed most golfers "turn" themselves right out of the most essential elements of their posture and somewhat break their golf swings in doing so.
    I have seen Dr. Kwon describing the proper move into the pre-impact parallel hips position, as almost like the feeling of jumping into this intermediate posture from a small step or footstool where the feeling of landing with hips level and parallel and knees parallel. This is a great picture of what if should feel like and I have used this concept very successfully. The important thing is, as I mentioned, the hips and knees must recover the same line and height that they had at address, with the hips half a foot or so closer to the target and the lower back must have recovered roughly the address level of inclination. I'm telling you that if you work on this and achieve it, you will be absolutely amazed at the impact it will have on your ball striking and ironically rather than feeling less like you are turning, you will feel your downswing turn become the dynamo of your golf swing. Cheers.

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  11 місяців тому

      Thanks, Tim! No doubt that these things happen in great golf swings, and like you said, it's a simple concept, but a tough execution. I'd chalk that up to things like feel and reality are different, and timing in a 1.4 second golf swing is very difficult. For my success here though, the only thing that worked was fighting the urge to give any thought to positions. All I wanted to do was contact the part of the ball Jess told me to, as fast as a I possibly could.

    • @timothypollock8358
      @timothypollock8358 11 місяців тому

      @@GolfTestDummyWell, I would just say that you've only got 1/3 of a second from the top to the ball so what you're trying to do in that period needs to be the right thing(s) and a lot of golfers are trying to do things that are less than optimal and increased effort is not necessarily your friend. But what I'm talking about is a lot like what you just experienced in that your golf swing changed by taking a new tack on the way that you came down from the top and it had multiple ramifications. This concept is the same way, in that I'm saying that golfers can benefit tremendously from understanding the "turn" down from the top differently. Your experience at Golftec shows me what I have already discovered a multitude of times; many improvements in the the golf swing tend to come when we unlearn inferior, misunderstood, or misapplied concepts that we thought that we knew about the golf swing and try things in ways that seem unlikely or even "wrong" to us. This is that kind of thing for many, many golfers.
      The thing is that what it takes to do it well is actually easier than what most of us end up doing so in that sense there's a secret or a trick to it more than just effort or ability . Rather than those, it's to some degree a change of concept or paradigm. It's a much "quieter" move than it seems like it should be and when you do it right it feels like you are stepping into the middle of your turn radius instead of turning hard from the top. I would liken it to a figure skater's collapsing their body radius to turn faster in a spin so although the speeds they spin at look amost impossible, it's simple physics and technique is paramount. I remember reading an article about Tiger a long time ago (before all of the new tech and analysis capability) and it said that a lab had analysed where all of his power was coming from and it determined that with wide shoulders and narrow hips, his build was optimal to take advantage of the kind of acceleration that figure skaters and discus and hammers throwers take advantage of which is achieved by this turn wide, collapse inward, turn faster dynamic that I am talking about.
      When you do this right, your turn through impact speeds up a lot but your club shaft also stays more in tune with that turn because it is more in synch with the turn since it is not being forced to move in the wrong direction at the wrong time. Therefore the effects end up compounded and it massively increases power at impact because of the speed and because the shaft can be released at a much more ideal moment in the turn. This is why players like Champ and Mcilroy turn ("spin") so fast through impact but their arms look almost as though they are being "sucked into" their bodies just before impact. It appears that they must be incredibly strong to do that, and there is some strength involved, but a huge part of that is technique that is fairly simple to learn once you understand what your are trying to do. Anyway take my word for it, it's a real thing and probably the biggest engine of power in the golf swing. Cheers.

      I had some preconceived ideas about Golftec before diving in, and quite a few of them have been proven to be wrong. Golftec, in my opinion, has the technology to really examine the data and quantify ideals at different spots in the swing. That's a beautiful thing. But, each coach has their own strengths and, since they are people, no two are exactly alike. So, you have the freedom within each location, or even in the same location, to find a coach that you feel is right for you. Taylormade, Callaway, and Titleist all make fantastic clubs, but why does one end up in your bag, while others don't? It's not because they are bad clubs. Same with coaches.

      I know this can work...we have spoken before and I was a stack n tilter for years...but because of injuries I couldn't do it anymore....then I went zen/ flowmotion/easiest swing kind of natural swing methods which got me through...
      Lately though I have revisited Rightsided golf because of the flat turn that helps my back...and the simple fact of stand like this swing like that...hit like this.....no other confusing thoughts....which was my main bug bear I had a different thought on every swing
      3 months in a lesson every 2 weeks and it's going great handicap falling...

      1 band aids...as in get a quick fix that helps you play better now(the fix I always looked for)

    Oddly enough Chad, this is the same issue I struggle with. Steve Pratt told me a few weeks ago that my pulls and pull hooks might not be a product of getting over the top but of coming from the inside too much with a closed club face. I immediately started hitting the ball better but still refused to stick with it feeling like I knew better what the problem was. You know the problem I haven't ben able to fix for 20 years, that one. Played the worst round of golf yesterday of my life hitting shots I never hit and topping balls you name it. Unfortunately I did this with three older gentlemen who shot 71, 76, 79. I was so embarrassed I missed an opportunity to make some new friends who love this game as much as I do. Anyway I say that to say this, on 18 after frustrating myself so bad I had no other options I too my driver what felt like straight back with a flat left wrist and turned my shoulders back through the ball as I had been told to do and crushed a drive splitting the fairway. Now it wasn't enough to save face after the display that was my mess of a golf game yesterday, but it was enough to remind me that I don't know enough to fix it myself and just because I think I know something doesn't mean I do.

      I have had those experiences, too, so I know exactly the feeling. Extreme disgust and humiliation. I had a good friend who lives in LA, but he was going to be a few hours from me playing at a super exclusive, very expensive club. He asked me to join him and a few friends. They're all 3 famous, but I'd never met the other 2. We had caddies.... yeah, that kind of joint. I shot 100 on the nose. Couldn't get the ball off the ground. Absolutely embarrassed. Of course, they were perfectly gracious and since 2 of them were comedians, I expected to get smashed with jokes. But THAT'S how I knew it was REALLY bad, because they were so embarrassed for me that they never cracked a joke at my expense.

    First off, may condolences on your career as a stand up Comedian didn't work out. I used to be 6'2'', 235 lbs of solid muscle, too bad that I also weighed 275 pounds and not that flexible. Then after 40 years of playing to a 13 Handicap and at one time or another tried most of the techniques you tried, conventional was the worst, single plane the best. Then I got sick for two years, no golf, lost 90 lbs and no power or swing, had to start all over. I am convinced that your body, mine is 80 yrs old, can only do what it can, you got to find what works for you. Edbald's and Clement's sort of worked, but the JUJu is better for me. No pausing at the top, just pick it up, make a half loop down and come from the inside. Dropped a bunch of strokes with the JuJu swing,
    Why not put out a video with you doing the JuJu swing, effortless power, continuous motion and followthrough.

    I might argue she should of focused on your rotation vs arms. If you walked in slicing I'd bet your hands and club were getting flipped through because your rotation stopped. Try not even thinking about your arms, hands or clubhead and just initiate the turn back and through with your torso. Let the torso be the engine and stay loose. Posture, loose, rotate......

    Hi buddy, you are not drawing the ball. The ball starts left and curve even more to the left. This is almost a pull hook. Could be disastrous.
    A draw is a ball that starts right and curve to the left for a right handed golfer.
    This type of shot generally leads to high scores. Better strike it from the inside and up.
    Try a softer shaft. Watch this ua-cam.com/video/MrpXlouAJzE/v-deo.html
    If Bryson DeChambeau uses an almost lady flex shaft in his driver, why would you use a stiffer one? Think about it.
    I tried a 45g senior flex shaft in my driver and it changed my driver for better, much better. Try it and make a video.

    The sad reality of golf is that you are always chasing the holy grail for your swing, so in this way you are always regressing. You may find that vein of gold, but it will be transitory until you are chasing some other elixir; which will completely erase the progress you have made to this point. Dummy is a study in always putting one foot forward while taking 2 steps back; which is like all of us in this quest for scratch play. Doochammbeeno was in this same place; always chasing strength and speed, and it only destroyed his game and consistency, so now, he has regrouped and begun to realize that playing the game well will require discipline in how you develop a repetitive swing that keeps your ball in the fairway.

  • @teddyzamba1396
    @teddyzamba1396 11 місяців тому

    Your brains memory stores will always revert to the mean, so if you have not ingrained a new memory trace, you will always be vulnerable to reverting to the mean. And, dummy, you have been playing with a thousand different swing methodologies, your brain is so scrambled that you cannot know what will show up at tee time. Now, your business model works to always correct a maligned swing, so nothing really changes for you; just moments of greatness, and gulfs of the agony of defeat.

      I'm not sure if that's good or bad in this particular context, but, I agree that it's very easy for old habits to creep back in, unless someone is consciously diligent each and every swing. It's a tough thing to do.
