I've had moderate success with several of them but when things go wrong, I abandon them. Very discouraging, to tell you the truth. Keep at it Chad! You're an athlete and will figure it out. The best instruction I ever got for swing plane was worry about the handle of the club. The shaft and clubhead are too hard to control. But when I focus on what the handle of the club does for me. Thinks started to fall into place

    I tried so many things to address my slice and after one session at golftec it turned out to be my back swing which I hadn't even considered. I had to swing under the noodle and it forced me to hook or create a nice draw which was the first time I've ever done that. Many people overlook the back swing and only focus on grip, stance and ball position... Definitely an eye opening lesson which has helped me gain confidence on using my driver off the tee now without fear of a wicked slice!

      Never give up, I’ve been there and have won 2 club championships! Remember, winners never quit and quitters never win. This may be a controversial idea, but I play better by knowing how to make adjustments during a round. You don’t need that “perfect” swing. If Jack Nicklaus made adjustments then shouldn’t all of us?! Jack hit his famous 1-iron to within inches of the hole in 1972 at Pebble Beach. Afterwards he said he made an ADJUSTMENT at the top of that swing! Learn adjustments that work for you! Sometimes it’s the timing of your release, sometimes it could be your head position being off…etc. When they say golf is a mental game, it literally is. Anyway, the end of this video compelled me to reach out to encourage you. Maybe a different approach will help. 😊

    Your right forearm is rotating the wrong way at the start of the downswing. You need to feel like you're screwing IN a lightbulb in the ceiling to start the downswing. What you're doing now is causing a bit of casting and ulnar deviation which causes you to lose your lag tension and is giving you early extension.
    Watch Cameron Champs swing and you'll see the move I'm talking about. Your clubhead is moving completely opposite of the way it should be. Basically, you're cutting the corner in an effort to increase clubhead speed instead of making the turn.

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  11 місяців тому

      I've seen quite a bit of the "twist of the wrist" idea in the last few years, and it makes a ton of sense. In trying to implement that, however, I've had a few issues personally. The biggest side effect is the face stays wide open and I blast it way right. So, that side effect has to be counteracted with something else to square the face. Usually, that is combining the twist with body rotation, which has also been a weak spot of mine, haha. It's seems like so many things in golf end up becoming a series of compensations, like treating an illness with a pill, that needs other pills to deal with side effects. Somewhere in this tangle is the root cause and if I can fix that, it would eliminate a ton of these other "pills", but of all the things I've tried and tested and showcased over the years, only a few things have made big differences.

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf 11 місяців тому

      @@GolfTestDummy The screwing in of the lightbulb is a very subtle move that starts the club moving on the proper path. Yes, it feels like the face will be wide open but if you let the club do what it's designed to do it will square up properly at impact. You're in the habit of closing that face way too early. If you over-manipulate the clubface you overcome the engineering and design of the golf club. Yes, oftentimes we have to change two or more things in order to get everything working properly but that's usually because people have learned how to compensate one flaw with another. Good swing + bad grip = no good. 'Know what I mean ...
      I literally can't believe this GolfTec instructor did not address that move at the top. That should have been the first thing. You're losing a ton of speed and energy there.
      There is no reason you can't be hitting the ball 280 to 300 ish. I'm 58 with a slipped L5 and I can do it!
      One more thing, it looks like your left hand is a bit too weak which will make you want to close the face manually. Take a look at most of today's bombers, a lot of them us a strong left hand grip.

    It's good to see you getting the club up faster as I've been saying for a long time. Your trail elbow is working too far around you in order for you to optimize leverage without some strong compensating movements. If you watch tour pro swings, many of the more compact ones begin to prepare the trail elbow to tuck in fast in the early downswing by beginning to curtail the width of it's arc in the last third or so of the backswing. This is because leveraging the trail elbow and wrist is the biggest source of power in the downswing and you need the right sequence in order to prepare to use it.
    It is possible to swing the trail elbow wide and then get it into a position for tremendous leverage but it requires a squat and drop of the lower abdomen and pulling of the arms into the body. This is something that can be seen in pretty much all power hitters. Without doing this, spinal tilt will be lost and the club must be dropped early which is what is happening to you now. So you are keeping your hips back much better (still a little drift forward) but you are having to stand up and throw the club around your body while dropping the shaft in order to square the clubface.
    So the two options to fix it are to 1) load your trail elbow earlier and tighter to your body in your backswing so that you don't have to stand up in order to get it in front of you to release the club. 2) Do the squat, drop the belly, and pull in that I described above. Not everyone has the strength and coordination to do 2) and it also requires a little extra suppleness in the lower back and hip sockets. The wider you move the trail elbow, and the harder you swing, the faster that whole sequence has to happen.
    The other consideration for 2) is that since one is going wide to narrow (so to speak) with the trail elbow more than otherwise in the swing, the trail wrist tends to go into more extension in swings that employ that technique. I notice that you are having very little TWE in your driver swings in this video so I'm not sure how that would work for you.
    Even in swings with a very tight early trail elbow tuck in the backswing (Jason Dufner or Brian Harman, for example) which are using more technique 1), you will still find more retention of the angle between the thighs and the lower abdomen, and so more squat in transition, than is happening with you.
    As I said in earlier comments, keeping the right relationship between the releasing trail elbow and the angle of the lower abdomen is one of the absolute biggest power secrets in golf because it lets you leverage the trail elbow on the plane that the shaft is releasing on which lets you retain the shaft angle as long as possible as you turn through impact. Examine any tour swing and you will see this happening even in shorter players. Generally, this will end up feeling a bit more like that your lead external oblique is moving more up and back and your trail side more down and forward while coming into the ball.
    One of the main things that one is always trying to do in the golf swing is keep the motion of the shaft connected with the motion of the lead side of the body because through impact, it's the lead side of the body that is moving the club around the body because the weight is on the lead foot. In S&T, you don't need a squat as much because the weight hardly moves but in swings where the weight travels to the trail side, the squat related motions that I have described "reconnect" the motion of the shaft with the lead side during the transition which is absolutely essential for efficient leveraging of the shaft as the weight moves targetward. I hope that you find this helpful. Cheers.

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  11 місяців тому +1

      So, how would this happen, or does it happen, in single plane?

    • @timothypollock8358
      @timothypollock8358 11 місяців тому

      @@GolfTestDummy Well it will definitely happen in any swing where the weight is moving to the trail side significantly. If you take Dechambeau for example, he has significant drive of the trail elbow back behind him like most power hitters do and you can see that he has a significant squat and retention of the angle of his abdomen coming down.
      How it happens and feels depends somewhat on how you stand to the ball and where your weight is front to back on your feet. However, generally you will notice that tour pros almost have a feeling of sitting (or even slightly falling) back as they point the abdomen down during the transition and then holding that to pre-impact as the hips rotate. So it looks at though they start to sit down and the trail thigh moves forward and become roughly parallel with the lead thigh down the line by about the time the hip line becomes parallel to the target line.
      This is really the only way to get the lead arm and shoulder around the body in synchronization with the targetward movement of the weight and the motion of the lead hip and while maintaining spine angle which is what you are trying to do. If you don't keep the weight back and somewhat low in the early transition , some standing up is almost inevitable. The back is arched at the top of the swing (if it's proper) and then loses that arch on the way down while the hips are moving toward the target so there has to be some kind of motion to help keep the abdomen in proper relation (angle) with the lead hip into pre-impact before the back starts to arch again into the follow through and that's what the squat/sitback/crunch accomplishes so that the shaft stays in good relationship with the spine.
      You don't have to try to keep the arms from coming down steeply in order to get the club to come down at a good angle as long as you keep your hips back and your spine angle stays reasonably close to perpendicular to the address shaft plane by about lead arm parallel to the ground (and hips parallel to the target line) on the way down. If you can do that, the shaft will flatten out as you rotate through impact as long as you don't stand up too much. A baseball kind of step drill can help with this kind of motion where you bring the lead foot to the trail one on the way back and then step into the downswing through impact. I don't know if I answered your question or not but just let me know if you have any questions. Cheers.

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  11 місяців тому

      So, a strong move of weight toward the lead side, like what happens with single plane swing, would help to encourage this most likely?

    • @timothypollock8358
      @timothypollock8358 11 місяців тому

      @@GolfTestDummy Yes, I would say so but the important thing is keeping the hips, abdomen, and thighs in the right relationship. That is why a step drill and the sit down concept both are helpful because they both encourage in integrated movement of the core area of the body. Cheers.

    • @timothypollock8358
      @timothypollock8358 11 місяців тому

      @@GolfTestDummy Another thing that could be helpful is try to get the club shaft perpendicular to the spine at about lead arm parallel to the ground (as I've already described) and try to hit the top outside of the ball coming down because you have been dropping the club early to the inside in order to try to be able to come to the ball from the inside but the shaft needs to move more out and around you as you retain spine angle coming in to impact. Doing this could be helpful in forcing you to avoid standing up and to retain your spine angle in order to be able to catch the ball squarely. Otherwise if you swing more out and around and stand up and lose spine angle, you would probably hit a severe heel shot; the equivalent of a shank or close to it with an iron. Cheers.

    Making a small swing change is tough and arduous and major a drastic swing change is exponentially harder to do. It takes a lot of repetitions, in fact, 1,000s, for your brain to change the muscle reactions in movements. Our brains are always looking for the familiar and simplest moves to do. Reverting back to familiar moves is normal for the brain that’s why it takes so many repetitions to change a move. You’ll get it, it just takes a lot of repetitions at a very slow pace and gradually speeding it up as the weeks and months go by. It’s similar to learning how to drive a car, especially a stick shift. When we started learning how to drive, you started off in a parking lot or abandoned road going very slowly, then you slowly graduated to the street then finally to the expressway, and finally going at the speed limit and beyond. Now your driving is second nature and you do t really think about it, you just get in the car and go. This will happen with your new swing also. I’m living proof that it will change for the better. Keep at it. Cheers.

      @roadtoscratchgolf3481 11 місяців тому

      @@GolfTestDummy absolutely, because the frustration is very long. But if you really want to get better, it’s the only way to do it. There are no quick fixes or “magic moves” or “secrets” that other YT instructors will have you believe. I’m remember Tiger saying that Butch Harmon had him doing moves that were foreign to him hundreds or even thousands of times for him to get it in the right sequence and become second nature. We are no different with learning new moves. It’s a long journey but we’ll worth it. This is what separates the low handicapper from the mid to high handicapper. Cheers
