Darks Side is overrated *listens to it again* Naah... it's not overrated it's great *don't listen to it for a month* Dark Side is overrated *listens to it again* Naah... it's not overrated it's great ...
This album is a paradox: it's my all time favorite album, and it touches me deeply. I had the chance to "convert" or initiate a few people to this piece of art, yet none of them had reach the passion I can have in this album. So, somehow this album, by its content, AND the rarity to find other "lunatics", makes me feel alone, alone BUT with the Floyd... And here is the paradox: it's one of the most sold album. So it's one of those albums who touched a LOT of people, more than any "cheap pop" artist hit. So where are you all ? Is it really an underground album or is it a mainstream masterpiece ? It's "something" different, it's introspection music, it's music you listen alone, peacefully, you get the trip, you "watch" the movie in your head, it's more emotional that Peyote, it's more moving than LSD, it's raw life, alone in space. There's something almost spiritual in this album, but not in a religious way, more like a personal journey into human mind.
most people bought it because of the cover or because having dark side in your cd/vinyl collection is cool and only listened to money or time. I myself was guilty of that. When i bought the album i barely knew of pink floyd but i am now a huge fan. Dark side isn't even my fav pink floyd album (it's wish you were here) but it's my favorite album of all time, i know it sounds confusing but dark side goes beyond a great pink floyd album and is a true master piece, it is almost an insult to compare it to other master pieces like the wall and such because it is on a different level. Just the name dark side of the moon is probably worth more than pink floyd itself so all that reputation brought them sales even if most people who bought it only wanted to flex that they owned the mytical dark side record.
it’s like people buying AM and only listening to Do I Wanna Know? and R U Mine? today (although AM is just a solid album rather than one of the best), just a must have for a teen’s vinyl collector
It may not be the best in Pink Floyd's discography, but its sure is the most impactful and you cannot deny that it's musically profound and lyrically relevant
I tend to consider _Wish You Were Here_ a better album, mainly because of "Shine On... pt. 1-5" and "Wish You Were Here". But when I end _Dark Side of the Moon_ , from the first heart beat to the last one... I'm always baffled by how cohesive this album is. It flows so easily from one track to another and then Eclipse just recapitulates the whole album. That's enchantment! Also, "The Great Gig in the Sky" is to me the best Pink Floyd song ever.
The Pink Floyd paradox: Dark side of the Moon is the best album of all time. However dark side of the Moon is not Pink Floyd's best album, Animals is their best. How is this possible?
Because as a band, animals is the most musically interesting. But, for everyone else, to be important it has to be quite a bit more accessible and relateable than animals
Exactly right my friend! Animals is masterful lyrically, sonicly, and conceptually. The sonic aspect hits you immediately and is so neatly crafted, while slowly building a blatant picture in your mind of the reality of the world and the people in it, so glaring that they have to use the lyrics to disguise it a bit. Absolutely amazing.
Amazing to think that 43 minutes changed the trajectory of my entire life and my outlook on it. I will never be able to truly put into words how much this album means to me.
I would definitely say that The Dark Side of the Moon is a flawless album, everything about it to me is so perfect, well written, well done. From front to back, start to finish, I enjoy every part
First listen: kinda weird but alright, overrated though Second listen: wow this is kinda good. But this shouldn't be deemed as one of the best albums. Third listen: this is the best album to ever exist I have transcended to Venus and my spirit now roams the cosmos
Great Gig is a religious experience for me every time. It takes me everywhere emotionally. Total catharsis. And Clare improvised that in one take. Frickin' incredible.
I hope you're right. I sat in the dark with my headphones on and decided to listen to Dark Side for the first time ever about 2 days ago. I didn't see what the fuss was about and indeed thought it's overrated. I'll go for a second listen, I hope my opinion changes because everyone is saying it's the best album ever
Im so high rn and I watched the whole video when i realized i was just listening to the song on the background and i totally forgot i was watching an analysis. Had to see the whole video again
@Robbin Ruben I don't give a shit what you think dude, it's all subjective. Many people think trap is good music and I think it's garbage, who is right? Nobody.
@Robbin Ruben What I tried to say is that just because you think that this album is not the greatest, doesn't mean that it can't be the greatest for somebody else. But I guess your little brain couldn't figure that out.
@Robbin Ruben My point is... Why do you "Pseudo-intelectuals" have to disagree at all? If somebody thinks this is the best album ever that's ok, let them be and just enjoy the fucking music, you don't have to tell them that is overrated and that they know nothing about music. The thing is that people nowdays are calling everything overrated just to get attention and think they are superior. Just let people enjoy the shit they like. I could say that god is overrated, but I won't because I don't think that I'm more intelligent for not believing in that and I don't give a fuck what other people believe in.
This album literally changed my life. It, more than any other music, certainly more than school, molded my core beliefs and my whole outlook on life. So, yeah, if you're asking me, I gotta say yes.
@Lincoln Schmit Hell fucking no. The Wall would be fucking horrifying and depressing on acid. Especially towards the end when everyone is screaming to tear down the wall. Best one is probably Piper or Atom Heart Mother in my opinion. You can also do it with Wish You Were Here and DSoTM
Sebastian mendoza I don’t think that’s why it’s so popular, but it is a powerful experience listening while on a psychedelic. It is primal, grandiose, atmospheric, emotional, and, well- trippy.
I love your production values here; you've made a professional analysis of an important piece of art. You've been able to explain the context of its conception and its continuous relevance. Fantastic job.

Sooo, I fell asleep during the start, and suddenly I was on a history video, I was really confused, I thought I'd been sleeping for hours... turns out, minute.
First listened to Dark Side when I was 8; at night before going to sleep in a still darkness. It had such a profound effect on me (severe nightmares) that I listened to it that way for a month straight. A soothing story of frustration and fear with the fleeting hope that you are not alone.
I tend to consider _Wish You Were Here_ a better album, mainly because of "Shine On... pt. 1-5" and "Wish You Were Here". But when I end _Dark Side of the Moon_ from the first heart beat to the last one... I'm always baffled by how cohesive this album is. It flows so easily from one track to another and then Eclipse just recapitulates the whole album. That's enchantment! Also, "The Great Gig in the Sky" is to me the best Pink Floyd song ever.

Damn, this channel is so underrated. Hope to hear about more classics. I think that MF DOOM definitely deserves a video. Such a controversial and mysterious figure. Blessings to u and your channel 🌿✨
Protip for commenters: No one cares you think Dark Side is overrated. It doesn't make you special. Now go back to playing League of legends in your basement.
Just don't think it's their best/most influential album, nor do I believe that pink Floyd have the best album. Just want to offer the other opinion that perhaps the Wall is the better album.
Hell yea! Just throwing around overrated is such a useless argument to me. The Wall is my personal favorite album of all time but I think Dark Side had more influence.
I always heard about Pink Floyd but I only listened to DSOTM when I was 29, for some it may have been late, but for me it was the ideal time because I was able to understand and feel the lyrics as an adult, as the lyrics should and deserves to be treated. At the end of the song "Time" a tear flowed. I don't know if it's the best album ever recorded, but it's the best album I've ever heard. The lyrics, the instrumentation, the technological innovations, a masterpiece period. All hail to the all mighty Pink Floyd
I don't know, i mean i didn't grow up speaking English. And it was my favorite album because it was a realy tasty experience for my ears. The travelling stereo, the texture of sound, the chords and the solos, the incredible painfull cry of the woman. You missed something, the music. I don't think the message matter that much since there is probably on the same era a lot of bands about it.
I was a very little girl when it came out. My parents had giant speakers. Dark Side of the Moon used to scare me! It’s my forever favorite. My heart rate still picks up when I listen to it. Magnificent work of art.
my life was changed the first time i listened to this album, probably due to the acid, but whenever i hear it i get this warm and deep feeling and that’s why i love this album.
YES. Also, PF is a British band, and anti-war sentiment etc was quite alive in England post WWI… And I’m a new wave fanatic, adore The Beatles, love Led Zepp, consider Pet Sounds to be perhaps the second/third best album after DSotM and Revolver…adore all sorts of rock and pop and classical music…and even I know that Dark Side is a tremendous work of poetic genius AND a musical masterpiece. It rightly deserves its spot at the top. “Eclipse” always reduces me to tears…”there is no dark side of the moon really/matter of fact it’s all dark” reminds me of the greatest endings of the greatest works of art…
It is for me. It is the only Pink Floyd album I can listen to everyday a part from live bootlegs, don't get me wrong I love WYWH and Animals but there is something about Dark Side, I don't know, maybe it's because when I discovered it I was at a point in life in which the album helped me massively. It may be hugely popular, but not overrated, it is truly a masterpiece.
As a huge fan of Pink Floyd I couldn't distinguish which album is better . But i think both lyrically and musically animals , wish you were here and saucer full of secrets are the best one
The simplicity of this album is perfect and outstanding it dives into the mind of someone who is going mentally insane dealing with his problems. For example money is a song in which Waters hates the fact that everything in the world has to deal with money. The bass line to the saxophone is nothing shy of making it a classic but the cryptic nature of Waters and the lyrics is what makes Pink Floyd, Pink Floyd.
Might be a bit ambitious and stupid for me to ask but there are very interesting aspects which could be viewed through different people: Furtwangler, Toscanini, Klemperer, Bruno Walter, Menuhin, Fricsay just to name some people of interest. Anyway I barely ever see videos obout any aspect of classical music (apart from the music itself) and I wonderd what you would make of it all.
Please please do a video where you continue on the tangent of 4:55. I was really getting caught when you started bringing the relevance of hip-hop today
The first time i heard dark side of the moon is when i was in the Dominican Republic in april of 2017, i was there building a house for a needy family, and i remember the wave feeling of Breathe and Brain damage and everytime i hear those songs It’s like i’m back in the DR sitting in the hotel lobby drifting through those songs
Dark side of the moon is a absolute masterpiece every song is brilliant and unique the topics it covers are what everyone can relate to and it’s 10x better stoned
Greatest album of all time regardless of sales numbers. The lyrics and musicality is infact timeless in this album! This album is about pressure of life the band experienced as Nick Mason simply explained
1.Sgt Pepper 2.Dark side of the moon Personally however, I don't think Sgt Pepper and Dark side are the best Beatles and Pink Floyd albums. Abbey road and Wish you were here are. But Sgt Pepper and Dark side are the best to the world, if you know what I mean. And the most influencial. The Beatles are my favourite band, Pink Floyd are my second. Two pretty good choices if you ask me!
1 sgt peppers 2 magical mystery tour 3 white album 4 dark side of the moon 5 meedle 6 the wall 7 let it be 8 animals 9 a saucerful of secret 10 the final cut
I like Abbey Road & the Wall best...I also love the Division Bell but know I'm in the minority on that one. These are the 2 best bands in my opinion, with Zeppelin a close 3rd.
That was the first of their albums that I ever heard, while stationed in Hawaii....back in 1975. I'm sure I was mostly just tripping on the sound, and it was years later, before I started actually paying attention to the lyrics ( or the meaning behind them....) Being in the service.....I wasn't lugging around a turntable or a massive stereo system, and all of my albums were on cassette. A lot of them didn't even contain liner notes. There were no lyrics to read, and I didn't even know the names of the guys in the group. In fact, a co-worker turned me on to an extra ticket to a David Gilmour concert (.....his 'About Face' solo tour in the early 1980s....)....and I had NO clue as to who he was, until they started playing a few PF songs near the end of the show. Since then.....I've seen the post-Waters Floyd 5 times ( on their last 2 tours )......and have ALL of their albums & a few of the earliest 'singles', the DVDs.....and even a production animation cel from 'The Wall' ( hanging on mine ). I seem to have gone back & forth over the decades.....on which of their albums is my favorite. The older I get, the lyrics take on new meaning. 'Animals' is the one I keep returning to in the past several years.
This is the first album I have ever listen to from start to end, this is actually the first album I listened when I got my first ever headphones. The more I listen to this album the higher it climbes my list for my favorite albums ever...shit it might be number 1 soon.
4:49 Narrator: "during the late 1960s, the government went from being seen as kindly protector, to an ominous figure." George Orwell: "Am I a joke to you?"
Samuel Black I think the exact opposite. When I listened to Dark Side for the first time I was greatly disappointed. The record is clearly overhyped as is nowhere as good as people are trying to imply (while still being quite good). But that's all just my opinion.
Thanks for watching! 🎵🔥

Amazing video bro, got goosebumps in the end.
Rather over analyzed don't you think?
It is just a great album!
James Margetts it’s the right level of analysis for an album like this
truly spectacular. wonderfully produced.
my life was changed the first time i listened to this album, probably due to the acid, but whenever i hear it i get this warm and deep feeling and that’s why i love this album.
What a great video, you make the best reviews. Also, nice editing!
Why does this vid have 28k views and only 30k subs for this channel. Damn this content is million-views quality.
Carlo Miras we’ve come a long way mate
YES.
Also, PF is a British band, and anti-war sentiment etc was quite alive in England post WWI…
And I’m a new wave fanatic, adore The Beatles, love Led Zepp, consider Pet Sounds to be perhaps the second/third best album after DSotM and Revolver…adore all sorts of rock and pop and classical music…and even I know that Dark Side is a tremendous work of poetic genius AND a musical masterpiece. It rightly deserves its spot at the top. “Eclipse” always reduces me to tears…”there is no dark side of the moon really/matter of fact it’s all dark” reminds me of the greatest endings of the greatest works of art…
0:07 is that actually jshlatt
ScruffyHydra 1427 thats what I was thinking but probably yes they are probably friends he has him on his featured channels
Video suggestion: how classical music (compositions, conducting, etc) changed after WW2.
Amazing as always
YESSSS thank you so much❤️
Please please do a video where you continue on the tangent of 4:55. I was really getting caught when you started bringing the relevance of hip-hop today

This is brilliantly done!
Yes Dark Side of the Moon is the best Album ever.
I think the reason it's sold so we'll is because the cover art is cool.
Dark side of the moon is a absolute masterpiece every song is brilliant and unique the topics it covers are what everyone can relate to and it’s 10x better stoned
One of the patrons was JSchlatt? Like the OTK JSchlatt? Lol.
you deliver every line in every video like a motivational speaker
i dont think you'd have very much fun if i fumbled my words
The Elon r u ok guy is a patron member
Greatest album of all time regardless of sales numbers. The lyrics and musicality is infact timeless in this album! This album is about pressure of life the band experienced as Nick Mason simply explained
1.Sgt Pepper
2.Dark side of the moon
Personally however, I don't think Sgt Pepper and Dark side are the best Beatles and Pink Floyd albums. Abbey road and Wish you were here are. But Sgt Pepper and Dark side are the best to the world, if you know what I mean. And the most influencial. The Beatles are my favourite band, Pink Floyd are my second. Two pretty good choices if you ask me!
Piper at the Gates of Dawn is my personal favorite Pink Floyd album.
And I think Animals is. Damn Pink Floyd is just too amazing.
1 sgt peppers
2 magical mystery tour
3 white album
4 dark side of the moon
5 meedle
6 the wall
7 let it be
8 animals
9 a saucerful of secret
10 the final cut
definatly agree that Abbey Road is the beatles best. It's certainly a better listen compared to Sgt peppers.
I like Abbey Road & the Wall best...I also love the Division Bell but know I'm in the minority on that one. These are the 2 best bands in my opinion, with Zeppelin a close 3rd.
Ahh i wish i could dicover Pink Floyd all over again... the feeling of discovering a world of music like that can’t be beaten
No.
It's not even Floyd's greatest.
Thank you. I still leave a like for the effort you put in this video.
0:02 iconic duo. They should make a video together some day.
The 44 dislikes listen to Drake
Nah that's Kendrick stans yelling in the comments it's TPAB
Who’s Drake?
This video was too short, but loved it, thanks bro
its incredible, but its not even the best pink floyd album
What do you consider the best?
Animals, Wish you were Here, Piper at the Gates
|Jake|C| Wish You Were Here And The Wall, They Are Their Best Albums, These Two Are The Compelete Version OF Dark Side OF The Moon.
Fight me, it doesn't conrain the best songs, but it is the best album
Easily one of the best channels on UA-cam
Yo wtf it’s fuckin jschlatt
this album is a masterpiece, every time i listen to it it gets better
Damn jshaltt Pink Floyd fan?
Oh man this album is epic..thanks for your review.
Jschlatt???
Aye it’s Jschlatt as a patreon, it’s funny to see other youtubers on patreon
Jschlatt, where do I know this name from?
This is amazing, I learnt so much.
Animals is the best album. It is so underrated
I feel like everyone says it's underrated
This is the first album I have ever listen to from start to end, this is actually the first album I listened when I got my first ever headphones. The more I listen to this album the higher it climbes my list for my favorite albums ever...shit it might be number 1 soon.
Hey schlatt
4:49 Narrator: "during the late 1960s, the government went from being seen as kindly protector, to an ominous figure."
George Orwell: "Am I a joke to you?"
NO WAY THIS NOT THE BEST ANIMALS IS SO MUCH BETTER
YourBoiTyler Fuck Melon he's wrong.
YourBoiTyler Animals is a good album but i thought it was very underwhelming compared to DSOTM and the wall.
Nah Wish you were here is the best one!
Great choice!!
Samuel Black I think the exact opposite. When I listened to Dark Side for the first time I was greatly disappointed. The record is clearly overhyped as is nowhere as good as people are trying to imply (while still being quite good).
But that's all just my opinion.
Arguably, the best analysis of the dark side of the moon 👍
dsotm is the best album of all time, yeah
best record of the band? nah
Best video essays on UA-cam
Wish You Were Here>
It's the most iconic I think, the perfect reference when someone asks you for a recommendation.
No. Angelic 2 The Core is the Greatest Album Ever
thumbs up if you disagree
Dam u got me
I thumbed down xd
