Your music has helped me through my Dad's death after a quick battle with cancer. My Dad was a big Pink Floyd fan and I was too. The Great Gig in the Sky is literally everything to me and helps me think he crossed over to it. My Dad had a whole music store in his room and I have every single piece of work by them and I am extremely thankful for that! You're the reason I feel he is still here!
The Great Gig in the Sky is an anti-religious pisstake. Sheep on Animals is a sublime follow-up: The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want He makes me down to lie Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by With bright knives he releaseth my soul He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places He converteth me to lamb cutlets For lo, He hath great power, and great hunger When cometh the day we lowly ones Through quiet reflection, and great dedication Master the art of karate Lo, we shall rise up And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water
Don’t let the other person who replied to your beautiful comment get to you. Whatever one’s beliefs (and I know you weren’t promoting any), Pink Floyd at their best resonate with them. That is what great music does. Roger Waters of all people knows the pain of losing a father. I hope your dad is jamming with Richard Wright while I write this. Even if he isn’t, you are. Bless you and your dad.
@@rachelleonard9994 Waters' was de facto denied a dad, seeing how he died mere months after Roger was born. So his pain is more over what might have been, rather than loss like M Griffin suffered. My Dad (who died an awful death after yrs of decline due to dementia) was virulently anti-religious and atheist, so I guess that fueled my above response (echoing Waters). As Waters had nothing to do with Great Gig I guess I spoke out of turn; sorry
A little story worth sharing: I was 14 when this album came out, and I'll never forget the first time I heard it. A friend made me put on headphones, and I heard, first, the sounds of ticking clocks, and then the *awesome" beginning of "Time." I was instantly blown away, and from that moment on, my life would never be the same. As someone else commented, this is not only one of the greatest albums ever made, it is also one of the best ever to hear on headphones. All the sonic effects are absolutely masterful and spellbinding.
~d(-_-)b~ Being of a Sound Mind ✌ Far away across the field. The tolling of the iron bell. Calls the faithful to their knees. To hear the softly spoken magic spells.
This album is an absolutely pure perfection, from the very first sound of the intro until the last note. I cannot say this about any other album, although I truly enjoy many others. Fifty [50] years later it stills gives me thrills.
I was born 6 months after this album released. I know I heard this music while in the womb, after birth and throughout my early life. I rediscovered the music in my early teens when I started playing guitar. Pink Floyd has been with me ever since. DSOTM, Meddle,Wish you were here and Animals are some of the greatest albums ever made imo. For me, dark side is my favorite but I love them all.
An album that induces feelings and emotions that everyone can relate to. An album that becomes more relevant the older you get. An album that will be talked about until the end of time. Dark Side of the Moon is the story of you and me, us and them, and everyone in between.
Best group ever in my lifetime ❤️, and I'm 73 years old. I can't even imagine all these years without Pink Floyd .They are the soundtrack of my life!!!
At 44, hard to argue with that. Radiohead is the only other band I've found that gets me to a similar headspace. My late teens and 20's belong to Floyd in this realm
It's not talked about much, but the four backing vocalists Doris, Lesley, Liza, and Barry also deserve praise. Let's meet again in 50 years Greetings from Tokyo🌈△🌈

I was 3 listening on vinyl and was hooked ! The next time I remember listening to this album was the night my mother moved us kids away from a bad situation. Just so happen to be on an 8-track and my mom could hit those notes just like Claire. RIP mom. This band's music defines most of my life.
Dark Side Of The Moon was not the only soundtrack of my life (now pushing 71) but they were almost constantly there. The animation of "Clocks" is, today, still a masterpiece.
There will never be a band like Pink Floyd again. Thank you for given me thousands of ours listening to this amazing music. I was actually sitting in the sun today in my garden, listening to Delicate sound of thunder. Even live there sound is over the top perfect, like no other band in the world.
Absolutely the best of all time. I'll never forget the whole experience listening to it all the way through WITH headphones on. My psyche and my soul was never the same.
I have so many friends that tell me they think Pink Floyd's music is too depressing. I always tell them that without Pink Floyd's music my depression would have destroyed me!
@georgemartin4354 Yeah exactly. That is most people's lives. It is a kind of depressing thought, but that's the way it is. I guess Pink Floyd has helped me to accept the shitty things in life and to look for and really truly enjoy the beautiful things in life.
People who are depressed find healing and solace in said music, people who aren’t, feel influenced when experiencing those foreign emotions and it turns them away.
@@natalies9984that's right, natalie. Real people face things head on, esp. when it hurts. The good that comes out of it is so worth it! I'm here cuz I didn't kill meself..and, believe it or not, the Floyd helps me out. THROUGH the valley of the shadow of darkness..not stuck in it! peace to you 🙂
When my time has coming to farewell this world. I have asked for the whole album to be played on a set of headphones. This might sound morbid but this album is the greatest ever recorded from start to finish. 🙏🙏🎵🎵
There's absolutely nothing in today's music that can in any way compare to the brilliance of Pink Floyd & DSOTM. I'm grateful to have seen their tour in 1973 at the Spectrum Theater in Philly. There were many phenomenal musicians in the 70's that sparked my love of music but little compared to DSOTM.
I first heard this album at age 17 in a friend's car. It blew me away, from the opening heartbeat to the final fading outro music and 'see you on the Dark Side Of The Moon' lyric. It's been my favourite album ever since. Sure, I get into plenty of other stuff at times but hearing DSOTM takes me away to a place no other music can.
There's something special about the way this album was recorded, One of probably the 3 top analog recordings of the day (or even history?). Pink Floyd and Alan Parsons = masterpiece
You can hear Alan’s influence in DSOTM when you listen to his music in APP. Little riffs, note structures, and the rest that you don’t hear in succeeding PF albums.
It's profoundly beautiful how all of their individual creativity was a perfect fit for their band and the music they made. Sure they've since all done their own solo thing, but for that time in their youth when they could have been or done a million things, these four men came together as Pink Floyd and created some of the most amazing music ever conceived, and nobody else could be swapped in for any of them. What Roger, Dave, Rick and Nick created together was something only the four of them could have done, and we should all be grateful for each of their contributions because they all added into the iconic mix of instruments we're familiar with on one of the greatest albums ever recorded in rock history.
When I 1st heard this album, 1979, I was stuck! In a good way. My girlfriend n I would stay over each other's house on the weekends n 80% of those weekends we spent listening to this album over n over. Since then, Pink Floyd has been my absolute favorite band, dark side of the moon my favorite album n TIME has 4ever been my favorite song n always will be! If u walked up to someone today, who knew me, n asked them what my favorite band album n song was, they would tell u. I was 16 yrs old back then. I'm now 60 yrs old n still play the hell out of the album...cd😂 . I like ALOT of songs but, like most, after listening to it a few times, learning n understanding the lyrics, it's time to "move on". Another new song is released n so on. But listening to DSOTM, I'm literally in a trance, mesmerized. It takes me to far away places. There's so much meaning n truth to every song. Thank u Pink Floyd! U guys rock!!!! Love u all!!!
There is a weird thing about this album and how present these guys where when they made it. They talk through out it about all you are is what you touch and what you see. Being present is the hardest thing in life to do. These guys where giving us the blueprint 50 years ago. Thank you guys, I wish I could’ve seen you live.
J'avais 13 ans, cet album m'a aidé à me construire. J'ai souvent crier pleurer et à chaque fois je reprenais du courage grâce à cet album. Merci Pink Floyd merci les gars.
I listened to it all my childhood... then when I was "older" I finally got to listen in the uh proper state of mind. And I learned what it was made for. Thank you guys so much for this perfect work of art!
I was not even planned when this album came out, I am 38. I've been listening to it on spotify but today I ordered a physical copy ❤ 50th anniversary. I can't wait to listen to it in my car. Best album in history, thanks Pink Floyd.
My 50th anniversary boxed set arrived yesterday! Next year, 14th October 2024, will be the 30th anniversary of my seeing the band performing the album live in concert.
Born to late too experience the release of dsotm. Born too early to literally fly to the dark side of the moon. Born just in time to celebrate its 50 years aniversary and enjoying this masterpiece
This album shaped the way I listened too and viewed music. Some music is generic while other is sophisticated and while many have lyrics that inspire, others compel the mind to deep thought. The very musical notes themselves seem to be arranged in a way that speak to the listener in their own way. Adding a multi layered delight to those with a good set of headphones!
If you ever visit WA, the Pacific Science Center Laser Dome in Seattle every Friday at 7:30p… Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon! It’s an incredibly immersive experience!
I am 62 and so much was going on in the 70s that only Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin and Detroit muscle cars plus the moon landings and Vietnam are still etched in my mind!
I absolutely haven’t got a single idea how it would be possible for these talented guys to have written such an album!? The tunes, the songs, the transition from song to song, the lyrics, the guitar, the drums, you name it, every tunable musical instrument, every line of words written into that album was just absolutely amazing from start to finish. I remember that I have to repeat the album for an entire night and yet I still wanted to do it again in the morning. It is still a mystery how they did it!?
Didn't grow up as a Floyd fan (I was into Queen) But started to listen to them as I got older. You can't deny that this album sits in the top 5 of all time!
I discovered Dark side of the moon in 1990. My little conservative town in Arizona was a whole other planet from Pink Floyd and I felt like all my anxiety and pain and loneliness wasn't so odd after all. That people in other places were feeling like this as well felt like a warm embrace.
My brother turned me on to Pink Floyd when I was twelve. Music for my life! I'm 64 and still listening. Genius and masterful music that touches your soul. Great Gig In The Sky will be played at my wake. If they don't play it I'm not going to be there :) Thank you for reaching deep in my heart. Cheapest therapy there is.
Pink Floyd songs are the only songs that will be playing at my funeral. It might sound a bit morbid but for me their music is number one. It has brought me so much joy and I’ll never forget the day that I saw them in concert. Probably the best concert I’ve ever seen in my life. When I was young I saw a lot of concerts.
I just listened to this album 4 days before the anniversary, and I didn’t even know about it! It’s like it was calling to me, and it’s one of my favorite albums now!
I remember Dark Side in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, 00’s, 10’s and now the 20’s……..6 decades, how time flies 😳 And do you know what? It never, ever gets boring, I can listen to it as much as I like and it’s as if it were the first time, it’s my favourite album of all time. Dave Gilmore was a neighbour in West Sussex until I moved house and I never met him, god I wish I did/could and just say…..’thanks Mr Gilmore’
I know I've purchase the album at least 5 times thru the years either due to my children "borrowing" and not returning it or moving and leaving copies behind. I've owned the album on 8 track, cassette CD and vinyl. Tee shirts and hoodies for days!!!!
Seriously, Such a iconic Record Album! I’m a Vinyl Record Collector and have the entire Pink Floyd catalog on vinyl It’s really hard to believe that the Dark Side of the Moon 🌚 album is 50 years now.
March 7, 1973, Chicago International Amphitheater. I was at the right time and place, a friend’s brother said for my three friends and myself to jump in, he said he knew someone on the side door that let us in. What a night. Little did I know then that 50 years later I would be watching an anniversary video on UA-cam reliving the sound that was so new, unique, and mind blowing. I was 19 then and 69 now. I time travel back ever time I hear all of the tracks except for Money. Money is the song that introduced me to Pink Floyd but it was over-played on the airwaves to the point I switched stations. DSOTM needs to be experienced in total, not in bits and pieces.
Whether sitting in a small dinning room listening to this album for the first time, or sitting on the floor of The Cow Palace in San Francisco experiencing the music live...I am and always will be taking a ride on each chord, each note, each bit of sound effect, each visual accompaniment happening far out of my being. And I find myself riding "The Great Gig in The Sky", and am the moon. There I sit emersed in a universe of perfection still wondering where on this Earth is my own painting of 'Time'. Clocks joining in space and splitting out into the void.
I remember listening to DSOTM back in 1974 when a teacher at school played the LP for our class and asked us all what we thought of it. Time is a track that rings true. I was young then and life was long. Almost 50 years have past since and it seems like I missed the starting gun coz no one told me when to run 😢. No regrets though! One of the great musical experiences this record.

My Dad had a whole music store in his room and I have every single piece of work by them and I am extremely thankful for that! You're the reason I feel he is still here!
The Great Gig in the Sky is an anti-religious pisstake. Sheep on Animals is a sublime follow-up:
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by
With bright knives he releaseth my soul
He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places
He converteth me to lamb cutlets
For lo, He hath great power, and great hunger
When cometh the day we lowly ones
Through quiet reflection, and great dedication
Master the art of karate
Lo, we shall rise up
And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water
Ok Bruce...be honest...did you get ahold of some good micro dots or weed and then zone out on PF??😊
For me it was shrooms then red microdots in 1990
I was 14 too. My favorite album from my favorite bans. Animals would be #2. Or is it The Wall? Hard to choose.
@@floydiandreamscapes5145 14 was the *perfect* age for this to happen. :) As for their second best, I'd say The Wall. But they had so many great ones!
I could drink to that.. cheers 🍺
I will drink 🍸 to that!!!!!!!!!
To Mr. Barrett and Mr. Wright, you both made the world that always loves you a better place. Please rest in eternal peace. We miss you. 🤍🖤❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Syd continues to shine on so to Rick
@@mrnice7570 Absolutely.
It's not talked about much, but the four backing vocalists Doris, Lesley, Liza, and Barry also deserve praise.
Let's meet again in 50 years Greetings from Tokyo🌈△🌈
Also Clare Torry.
The backup vocalists are etched into the fabric of my life. They absolutely deserve praise. Thanks for pointing that out.
@@kristlepicklesThank you for pointing out "The Great Gig in The Sky" There was clare in this song.I'm sorry, I was on the far side of the moon, so my discovery was delayed.🚀🌚👨🏻🚀
@@robm321thank you for your reply This wonderful album would not be complete without the backup of these unsung heroes.Rob-san, see you somewhere again🙋🏻♂️
Absolutely!
I am a teenager again, only now I understand this album so much more than I did then. I am 64 but this music takes me back to a simpler time. Amazing.
Same age as you and bought this album in 1975 Brilliant🏴
I Concur with You ✌
I was 3 listening on vinyl and was hooked ! The next time I remember listening to this album was the night my mother moved us kids away from a bad situation. Just so happen to be on an 8-track and my mom could hit those notes just like Claire. RIP mom.
This band's music defines most of my life.
Dark Side Of The Moon is far and away the greatest jazz/rock fusion album OF ALL TIME!!!
Yes. Yes it undoubtedly is
You are correct. I'd say greatest rock/alternative album but why quibble 🤟
It's in no way Jazz, but yeah great album.
@jamesstevens9394 IYHO, that is.
Still the greatest album ever. Thank you Roger for being the greatest song writer in history.
For me it was Animals. I was too young to get DS when it came out
roger only wrote some songs. david and rick wrote the rest
@@wickedhouston5538Rodger wrote the majority of the music while he was in the band
@@seancloonan22Roger recently proved in his solo reimaging of Floyd's songs that "DSOTM" is nothing without Gilmour, Wright and Mason.
@@redacted2275 the whole is greater than the sum of its parts
Saw Pink Floyd in concert for DSOM twice in 1973-what an experience-still one of my favs!!!! Nothing like 60's, 70's, 80's, some of 90's music!!!
This album is a gem I swear these guys are out of this world
Every time I hear it I think 'just what I needed'
Always Pink Floyd!! Thanks. Big hug from Votuporanga SP
Dark Side Of The Moon was not the only soundtrack of my life (now pushing 71) but they were almost constantly there.
The animation of "Clocks" is, today, still a masterpiece.
Pink Floyd is not a band, its an experience.
It's not a band anymore.
There will never be a band like Pink Floyd again. Thank you for given me thousands of ours listening to this amazing music. I was actually sitting in the sun today in my garden, listening to Delicate sound of thunder. Even live there sound is over the top perfect, like no other band in the world.
The best band ever, and my favorite forever.
Those aren’t real friends
THROUGH the valley of the shadow of darkness..not stuck in it! peace to you 🙂
I would say Floyd looked into many topics,nd expressed them so well on Dark Side Of The Moon
Some of the greatest music of all human history. That is a fact. I love Pink Floyd
This music changed my life as a teenager...and my love for it has only grown 🤘😁🎸🎶❤️🎤
Same here. That band rescued me from an otherwise dreary existence. 14 was the *perfect* age to discover them :)
When my time has coming to farewell this world. I have asked for the whole album to be played on a set of headphones. This might sound morbid but this album is the greatest ever recorded from start to finish. 🙏🙏🎵🎵
What a great way to go!!!
This music is so powerful that you may wake up from the dead and listen until infinity......
"Well I'm not afraid of dying... any old time will do."
11:35 I had this book when I was a kid! Loved the How and Why Wonder Book series, and as a teen I loved DSOTM when it came out.
Try listening to the Beatles.
@runawaybride you better be joking or you really needs to run away with this pov😭
they are singular... would love to have seen them.
saw them in Detroit same year,,,,better than any drug I ever had,,,period
I am playing this album since the very first day it was available
One of the best albums of all time..
Pink Floyd will always be in the top 10.. 👍
Alan turned down the opportunity to work with them again on WYWH…..
History! DSOTM is in the library of congress
You can hear Alan’s influence in DSOTM when you listen to his music in APP. Little riffs, note structures, and the rest that you don’t hear in succeeding PF albums.
Wow What a year I was born 50yr ago how time moves on fantastic album ♥
50 years have got behind me, and no one told me when to run!
That's a beautiful box set and a very desrving piece of work do have it.
They should be doing a 50-year anniversary tour. I'd pay a ridiculous amount of money to see that. Unbelievable.
My day starts with Pink Floyd & ends with it...thank you Pink Floyd for creating such beautiful music !
This album changed my life from the moment I heard it, start to finish. It continues to do so. Thank you Pink Floyd for this masterpiece ♥️
Best album ever! Has changed my life! There are many great rock bands, but Pink Floyd stands out as something exclusive.❤
I'm now 60 yrs old n still play the hell out of the album...cd😂
I hope your friendships overcome all oddities ... always prevail in forgiveness and love....
TIMELESS ALBUM!! It’s a dream of mine to jam with these psychedelic astronomical human rights advocates!
I was not even planned when this album came out, I am 38. I've been listening to it on spotify but today I ordered a physical copy ❤ 50th anniversary. I can't wait to listen to it in my car. Best album in history, thanks Pink Floyd.
I might be old but I got to see all the cool bands !
Nothing will ever match or compare to the perfection of this album
My 50th anniversary boxed set arrived yesterday!
Next year, 14th October 2024, will be the 30th anniversary of my seeing the band performing the album live in concert.
Greatest album of all time. Period..
4 great musicians at the peak of their creativity and collaboration.
I think back 50 years ago when I first bought and heard the album. It still blows my mind today.

Born to late too experience the release of dsotm. Born too early to literally fly to the dark side of the moon. Born just in time to celebrate its 50 years aniversary and enjoying this masterpiece
OMG..alot went into the making of this box set...unbeleivably awesome !
My all time favorite band. 🤩 I miss the laser light shows in the planetariums. That was mind blowing.
100% We need those.
If you ever visit WA, the Pacific Science Center Laser Dome in Seattle every Friday at 7:30p… Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon! It’s an incredibly immersive experience!
Gilmore doesn't get enough recognition as one of the greatest guitarist. He,s absolutely brilliant
He is even better than waters on bass.
@@r423fplip I believe that.
He is and self taught which is amazing!!! Comfortably Numb is just straight fire.
He definitely gets credit from fellow guitarists. He’s brilliant. He’s not a shredder, so if number of notes per second is your barometer…..
@@r423fplip he never claimed to be a great musician his skill as a lyricist is outstanding
It is the single greatest album ever. One doesn't listen to Dark Side, one experiences it.

Pink Floyd forever!!! Ultimate musical masterpiece!!!!
My brother played this to me back then and my taste in music changed for ever thanks brother.
I am 62 and so much was going on in the 70s that only Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin and Detroit muscle cars plus the moon landings and Vietnam are still etched in my mind!
I stop what I am doing whenever a song from this LP is on... glorious ! Thank you PF amen
They had a helluv help
We were the most iconic events of that sweet year of 1973… happy birthday to me and to the DOTM.
Welcome on the DSOTM ship
I’m a Vinyl Record Collector and have the entire Pink Floyd catalog on vinyl
It’s really hard to believe that the Dark Side of the Moon 🌚 album is 50 years now.
From 10 to 5 years ago i listened to the full album every day. Every single day. Thank you.
Pink Floyd IS an intemporal band their music will bé eternal.all thé did IS awesome.i discoverd them at 17 years old today i m 64 and still listening
Listening to Pink Floyd is like embarking on an epic musical journey that transcends time and space....
I first heard it from a jukebox in a Hong Kong pub 30 years ago, and it was amazing.
The chorus vocal is like instrument of orchestra, beautyful ❤
It's amazing how far human creativity can go.
