Nick seems like the kind of guy who gets along with everyone. And when you think about it, he's the only constant member of the Floyd from its founding to the present day.
And perhaps the most candid and genuinely happy response given by Roger. The way his eyes light up when he talks about Syd (minus all the schizophrenia talk he's done throughout the years) you can tell that he has very fond memories of his former friend. He said he doesn't have any regrets, but personally, I think Roger very much regrets not being there more for Syd and obviously for how he handled things with Rick, which ultimately led to the demise of the most prolific ensemble of 'The Floyd.' As for "Which One Was Pink," Well, Syd was Pink. Roger and then later, David, only stepped in to fill his shoes once he left this plane of consciousness behind.
Actually it was Roger who said they liked the music loud. But I guess over time he simply got things mixed up a little. Still good to see him happy though

I agree. Well said. Its a shame Roger became so self-absorbed, Once the first episode of him going bananas had passed, it was too late and from then on he had to maintain his attempts of power over all and it just made it worse. Gilmour remains humble yet assertive in his attitude but deeply regretful of Waters loss of sensibility.
Leavebutdontleaveme Nick is the real hero of Floyd. Immersion, early years and I suspect endless ricer all happened because of him. A terrorifiyingly smart man! Lol
It killed me when I saw him say that. He wasn’t joking. David goes off and tours the world, Roger goes off and tours the world... both have totally left Mason out. It is like he lost an arm. He went from selling out arenas around the world to being totally left behind. It’s tragic and happens to far to many amazing drummers.
@@dmstewart66 and it's true. As soon as Roger started getting a power trip, all of the juicy drum solos and fun drum parts vanished. Even when David took control in the 1980s, he was all about the guitar, and all of the other instruments faded into the background. Both of these guys left Nick and Richard behind....they were so focused with battling each other, they forgot the group had four members, and not two.
"won't do it without Rick" David and Roger performed together without Rick for charity in 2010. _Very_ well, too. David doesn't keep his stories straight, but he can do whatever he wants with the rest of his life and shouldn't have to justify that to us anyway.
Yes David guested with Roger at the 02 arena in 2010 but that is a lot different to a full blown Pink Floyd reunion. That is what David has said won't happen without Rick.
I wasn't referring to the O2. Dave played Pink Floyd music with Roger on July 10, 2010 for a children's charity: "Another Brick," "Wish," etc. It sounded genuinely like Pink Floyd, and genuinely terrific, and Rick was dead. The idea that that was morally "right" but in contrast more shows in a row would somehow be morally "wrong" is silly. Dave doesn't feel like touring with Roger. Dave's "A New Machine" didn't have Rick on it. Or Nick. (Or Roger or Syd.) And he put it out as by Pink Floyd -- because he would never do something like that because it's _wrong_, unless it happened to coincide with what he felt like doing, which that time it did.
"do you regret any of your actions in pink floyd?" roger: absolutely not, nothing Nick: genuinely baffled that he doesn't regret any of his behaviour even decades later
You can see Nick is sort of jokingly angry at Roger for everything that happened when Roger left. "What's your favorite song from The Wall?" "Comfortably Numb, because it was a cooperation" - Nick Hahahaha, love it!
To most, this is clearly 2 long time friends having fun. People should pay attention to the question about whether the 4 members bonded as friends or coworkers from between Meddle and The Wall. The reply from Nick was that they bonded as students, then Roger says as friends, and Nick says of course. That was early on with Syd and Rick, David wasn't even there. Then Roger needles him and Nick laughs. They were great friends in the early years when they were kids. The bond between Nick and Roger is very deep and real, Gilmour can't be a part of that because he wasn't there. He was a hired gun brought in when they were adults working on music trying to get rich. That can never be the same.
Might have been later, but it was still very early on in their music careers. I think the bonds that were formed from then were deep in a different sort of way, but no less strong. As far as I’m aware, Rog and David were very close for much of their musical journey together.
@@BaronVonMunch I have always felt that David was the odd one out, even in the early 70s. Watching videos from that time he seems very uncomfortable and awkward while the other guys is joking around and act like friends. When Roger left, the band went on a big tour (I saw them in 88) that kept the band`s name relevant even though they toured on an album that sounded much more like Gilmour solo album and not Pink Floyd. I remember the show as fantastic, because of the great sound, the big round screen and the effects. Not the band it self. They were more like David Gilmour`s Pink Floyd tribute band with a lot of session musicians nobody knew who were, making Nick and Richard almost disappear in the crowd of unknown faces on stage. I remember many in the audience said the same thing; Great concert, but it was not Pink Floyd.
Rick said in an interview He didn't particularly care for Roger At same time Loved and respected him He just dosen't miss him Lol But everyone Had fun, and was proud of the 08 reunion show Even David has articles and advertisement posters hanging in his Studio house boat
Tomi V lmao You are right. Many people overlook the English dry sense of humor. I don't think they were being too serious. With that being said, Roger still seems arrogant, and Mason still holds be resentful :P Both gents are geniuses, though.
@@JoeLewis14 Roger is joking, why can't you at least try to put your anger aside and have a little sense of humor. Roger knows what people want him to answer and he's joking around with it with his friend Nick. I get the Roger can say things either about the band or politics that can anger people, but I don't know why people can be so sensitive and want to hate him. You don't even know him. I don't know him and I don't agree with all his politics, but I feel he has a right to his opinions. They come across as that he wants to help such as the situation in Palestine. And then he gets tired of some comment from Gilmour and bitches about it. I at least think he is being honest with what he thinks and I can't have a problem with that. I'll take that over a smooth-talking bullshit artist any day.
@@clairvoyantmole8668 Good catch. I recall watching the clip when Syd and Roger were interviewed by Hans Keller and I'm surprised that Roger thought Syd had said it when it was actually himself. Mind you, it was a long time ago.....
@@kyodoconsultingtraining967 It was a long time ago and Roger is in his 70s. To be fair though, Syd was sitting next to Rogeer during that Hans Keller interview and Syd was in agreement with Roger, so in a way, one can argue that Syd did say that. Syd may not have said the words "Because that's the way we like it", but Syd did acknowledge his agreement with Roger
I have a counter argument. Roger Waters seems to be the only one in the world who can deal with Nick Mason's silliness, and lack of any ego, with a joke and a smile. When was the last time our beloved petrol-headed Nickey addressed the UN on the subject of humanitarianism?
@cliddily Who cares what Nick does and doesn't do. I would bet he's donated a bunch to some cause. Sure, Waters loves to yak about world politics and the wrongdoers of society and in his mind. Well, I heard a few interviews with him and sometimes he contradicts himself. He's allowed to speak his mind but as I mentioned a few days back, I seen Waters solo concerts 4 times but the last time I seen him in Montréal, I came away from the show almost in a depressed state. Then I seen Nick in Toronto about 5 months later doing the "Saucer Full of Secrets" tour and it was like a breath of fresh air.
I've read and heard Mason say negative things about David and Rick. I haven't actually seen him say much bad about Roger. It seems like Nick works with David, but is friends with Roger even though they've battled over business. I don't get the feeling that Mason is any great friend of either David or Rick. Mason was pretty angry at lies Gilmour would tell about how Roger destroyed Nick and Rick. Nick said he didn't like that at all. And Mason has called Rick very cheap and complained that Rick wanted all of his own songs on every Floyd album.
It's just sad. I imagine Roger and David never going to forget each other, and when one of them dies, the other will feel a lot of pain and guilt for not having the chance to say goodbye or fix the things. I hope some day they realize that.
@@kristinamnatsakanyan. well in fairness dave should have just granted roger access to the website, but admittedly roger shouldn’t have retaliated so publicly like that.
For those of you who aren't English, this is how you know two people in England are really good friends, they constantly take the piss out of each other, like Roger and Nick are doing here.
Great to watch these two together. There is so much history and not all of it was good. They know it, they've moved past it but it still resonates. I think these guys truly care for each other even though Rogers ego got the best of him a while back.
I don't think it's as simple as blaming it all on Rogers' ego. I mean, he was, in effect, the captain of the ship; the main creative force in the band by far. If it wasn't for his writing and conceptual ideas, Pink Floyd would probably have been forgotten after Ummagumma. That said, when you have a band with 4 egos in it, and not just one, there's bound to be feelings of jealousy and creative differences. And I can understand that each one of them felt like they had things to contribute but were being overshadowed by Waters' genius talent. That's not an easy pill to swallow when you're a young man with talents of your own that you want to express. Personally, however, I think whoever has the best idea gets to have their say. And if others can top that, then great. But you really need to go with the best idea at the time. And in the 70's, Roger just happened to continuously be the man who had the best ideas. Don't like realizing someone else's vision? That's what solo albums are for.
Brazilian Tex Atlantis I don't think there was any taking over. I too am not 100 on the facts. I agree it was always Rogers band.from beginning. From when the tea cups were formed. Two guys that I can't remember the names of were either in the band aswell as Mason and Wright, or were replaced by them. Another guy, a good friend of Roger, not sure if they were flat mates, was called klose I think who ran the show with Roger. Syd was in a band with Gilmour then but I think joined the tea cups just before Klose moved to Australia or something like that. Syd was Rogers school mate and so let Syd take the reins. Syd changed the name and got them places. Syd introduced Dave to the tea cups (maybe floyd by then) and he became a member soon after name change or maybe piper atgod. I say all this because I feel it was always Rogers band from tbe beginning. Before syd before Dave. Not sure on timing of Rick and Nicky to the tea cups. I feel it was Syd and Roger took them to success. Dave came along and struggled to play what they were playing. A couple of albums later and Gilmour has added his own magic to pink floyd. It evolved. The sound that is. Pulling the strings rather than plucking them was down to Roger for a massive part of Floyds success. He's a creative genius. I dont think David took over the band. I thought it was three against one. I'm not sure of those facts either. I know Rick was sacked and hired help for a while but when Roger went the other three still wanted to play as Floyd as you would expect. The court case over the name was aweful. Rogers band from beginning in his mind. But most the "sound" of Floyd over years was Gilmour and wright. That is what the majority of floyd fans love I reckon. Can understand roger bitter over the name. Tough for Roger because I think I would of been pissed off too. Done so much for the band and he probably expected them to get behind the way he wanted it more. It wasn't just Gilmour though.... Bob ezrin saying ... no I want dave to play it like this or that. Bob took a lot of control backed up by the other three. Probably for the best.... who knows.. but it was Rogers concept. Its a masterpiece regardless. I just think he was hurt that he couldn't have more things his way on his own idea. I would be interested to hear rogers original concept
@@daddypig.5796 They were "The T-Set" among other names. Early members included Chris Dennis and Bob Klose among others like Clive Metcalfe and Keith Noble, and Juliette Gale I think who became Rick Wright's first wife.
@@daddypig.5796 I wouldn't agree about the sound being David and Rick. In fact, I can't give Gilmour any credit for that and here's why. Floyd had a unique sound before Gilmour had anything to do with the band. Gilmour has stated that he didn't even think the early Floyd with Syd were good. He thought his blues band was much better because he thought they were superior players. Basically, Gilmour was your typical blues purist guitarist. As you said, David struggled early on because he had no clue what to play. Clearly, he only joined because he saw a possible payday, it wasn't his thing at all. Gilmour, as he has often stated, watched what Rick did on keyboards and tried to emulate on guitar. You can hear this in many songs where they go back and forth. So Gilmour just copied what Rick was already doing to fit in with the Pink Floyd had created before he was in the band. The others created the sound, Gilmour just learned how to play along with it. Saying he created it would be like saying Mick Taylor created the Stones sound. And finally, Roger Waters was the guy who wrote most of the music for their songs. Waters wrote the songs that become most of their hits. Yes, he couldn't play lead guitar or play keyboards, but he was a hell of a songwriter that came up with terrific melodies. Because Waters became such a great songwriter, he must be given a lot of credit for their sound. Without him, they would have no hits and no career because none of the songs would be any good. Also, Waters was very much involved in the musical direction often telling others what to do or what sounded good. Waters created many electronic effects on Dark Side and it was his suggestion that they create music using non-instruments. This lead to using the wine glasses intro on Shine On. Waters also created the driving bass lines that really push many of their great songs along. That rhythm defined the energy and sound on a lot of songs. I imagine Syd had a lot to do with it, but I don't know that much about the early days. Along with Syd, I'd have to say that Roger and Rick get a lot of credit.
Roger has publicly stated that he did things in Floyd and when he was leaving Floyd that were wrong. He may not have used the word regret, but he has admitted he made mistakes. I would consider that the same thing. Clearly he was joking here and Nick as well. They're just 2 old friends having fun.
This is so heartwarming. I just love Roger and Nick seems like such a sweet human. They really are enjoying each other’s company. This band had such an enormous influence on my life…from when I started listening in 1993 when I was 13 to today at 41 years old. I still tear up when I play certain songs. Their music was really next level. And Roger’s lyrics are from some higher dimension or something. “Mama’s gonna keep you right here under her wing, she won’t let you fly but she might let you sing…” This is just so beautiful.
Its about the only time I've genuinely seen Roger laugh and its a natural laugh, which tells me these guys are great mates. Feel sorry for Nick as he is asked about Dave being enemies or friends as clearly Mason has no enemies yet Dave and Rogers past will always have some tension. Roger is a complex character but you get what you see - and I rate his passion and also his humble admission he may have reacted badly back in '84. In saying this, it must have been tough to stomach at the time. Either way, great songs that will live on forever both us oldies and the 19 year olds that wrote to them!
Clearly they're good friends and have been since school. It's interesting, I saw an old interview of Mason probably from the 90s, and he was complaining about how he was angry at David for telling the world that Roger had destroyed Nick and Rick when they were trying to get Pink Floyd going again. That really bothered Mason enough for him to be complaining about it much later. He even said he was shocked thinking that he was supposed to be on Gilmour's side in the battle, but Gilmour is saying this about him. I think Nick like Roger's honesty and I don't think he cares much for Gilmour's bs. Even when they were battling Roger in court, Nick was angry at David. I think it has a lot to do with Roger and Nick being friends from school that wanted to be in a band together. Gilmour on the other hand, is a guy that came into their successful band as a coworker because he wanted to get rich. Nick and David don't seem to have the early friendship bond.
Of course there are 19 year old fans... this music is timeless, it will continue to find an audience and already has, through multiple generations now. Love or hate their music, it's not going away any time soon. They created art that has become ageless and has stood up to time. They've every right to feel pride in their work. This was art that mattered. Maybe I should say 'is' not 'was'... Roger just put out a great album and is on tour as I type this. Someone call Nick, get him out of the house.
nick mason looks like one of my old physics professors... looks like any bloke on the street, would be hard for anyone who doesn't know him to believe he's one of the all time savages on drums.
Speed alone, doth not savagery make. I love watching Nick in the Pompeii movie. He's a joy to behold, and might be describable as savage. And this little movie was great. I want the unexpurgated version.
The dynamic between these two friends is incredible. Roger is provocative, but is the one who is searching for aproval. Nick puts up with it at the same time that he finds amusing the things that Roger says.
I think it's clear they've been close friends since school. I think Nick is the only one he probably felt was a close friend. Seems like Rick was somewhat of a distant person. I don't think Roger ever felt close to him and I'm not sure Nick did either. Gilmour came in later after they were a business so he was never really a part of that school bonding. I think Roger only cares about Nick as a friend and doesn't give much of a crap what the other 2 thought.
I'd seen this before but just re watched and feel compelled to say that I love this clip. It's so awkward and honest and beautiful. So much is held back by these two yet it's clear that the bond remains unbroken as tattered as it might be. The Floyd was the perfect storm and deep down even old Roger knows it took all of them to do what was done. R.I.P Rick Wright. Shine on Syd.
I absolutely love this! As a veteran Floyd Freak 30 + years on, this tells me far more about Pink Floyd than any documentary I have seen. Roger and Nick just being themselves. Quite insightful I think.
They have musically accompanied me from 11 yrs old to now 50 yrs. later, and I have enjoyed their soundtrack for a large portion of my life, and will 'til my last day. At my wake. My daughter knows to play a Pink Floyd tune. Most likely Wish You Were Here.

Stu Cazzo we’re the same age. The wall was my first album by them.
A terrific interaction. I would love to see something similar between David and Roger after a couple glasses of wine. Both let their guards down and have a nice sit and grog.
They'd probably end up arguing. I think Roger and Nick have been good friends since school as they've said. I don't think Roger ever felt that close to Rick or David so I don't think the interaction would be the same. Besides, the money issues were mainly between Roger, David and Rick over songwriting credits. The more Roger songs on the album, meant less money for David and Rick. In the end, band issues are always about money. Nick only got songwriting credits on the songs created from jams so those issues wouldn't affect him.
If I didn’t already love Nick Mason enough! He’s hilarious and probably the wisest and most mature one from Pink Floyd. Cool that he was always friends with all of them.
Indeed music is not a competition 16:38/ The best thing that can happen to Nick, Roger and Dave is that they are creating a completely new Pink Floyd album together... the sun keeps shining even when it sets behind the wall!...
I like them so much...When they were in the floyds and today.I'm 14 years old, almost 15,so,maybe,and not English speaker, and pheraphs i've misunderstood something, but it feel so great seeing them in this way
I was there too. Do you remember when they shined the spotlights on that giant spinning pinwheel behind the stage and it reflected purple swirling lights throughout the entire stadium? It was my first concert ever. I was totally straight and sober but it still blew my mind. I wasn't even old enough to drive yet. Dad picked up me and my friends in the family station wagon afterwards. God, what an amazing kickoff to my teenage years. Thank you so much guys!
Brilliant, made my day, could watch the two of them all day. Yes there's still that wee bit of tension there but there's also a much deeper admiration and understanding also there. Floyd were simply the greatest band of all time.
This is pure gold. There's so much of unspoken things going on here that we'll never ever know. I've been a musician since my 13s and had been in a couple of bands and I'll tell you without a single doubt it's like family, brotherhood (not always in a good way, of course). Some of the guys I played with for many many years know me better than my relatives and we shared truly unique moments. There's like an intimacy you can't find very often. We did disagree here and there, we did get mad, but even though each of us are physically away from one another, I feel absolutely comfortable in calling anyone anytime
I found that quite emotional towards the end. Wonderful band, replete with the fragility of inter-human relationships. Never to be repeated...always to be cherished...
Joseph Scott he may have been joking but you can only joke and avoid for so long until you need to address the mistakes you made. it’s for this reason pink floyd will never get back together again
If you've noticed at 18:13 when Nick said "I am a bit alarmed about death" while the comfortably numb tune is playing in the background, Did you see the silent response from Roger? ... He stared at the paper (right before asking the next question), moved his eye brows in sorrow thinking about what Nick just said about death as if he was touched by his answer and that stare took 7 seconds which was a long time. A people with strong concentration ONLY will spot this. Very touchy !!! Comfortably numb is both great and sad song really.
Thank you both. Two of the finest musicians the World has ever seen and will ever see, laughing, sharing, caring and just being themselves. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Nick had exactly the same look on his face during the last reunion of the four of them when Roger was talking to him in rehearsals about something to do with his drumming. I turn 50 on Jan 9th. I was 13 when I took off to see The Wall in New York in Feb of 1980. This 'affected' me. I suppose all music is if it is if it vibrates the right memories within us.

Well you can argue with Dave if you like. I'm just going on what he has said re: a full on "reunion." If that changes well....
"do you regret any of your actions in pink floyd?"
roger: absolutely not, nothing
Nick: genuinely baffled that he doesn't regret any of his behaviour even decades later
It means they have discussed this in private many times. Their version is not to be shared publicly.
It means he absolutely does and made a joke about it
Nick ~ "No comment" .....speaks volumes
Roger: *takes big ass sip of wine*
Roger: 😎
You can see Nick is sort of jokingly angry at Roger for everything that happened when Roger left.
"What's your favorite song from The Wall?"
"Comfortably Numb, because it was a cooperation" - Nick
Hahahaha, love it!

Nick Mason seems to be the only one in the world who can deal with Roger's silliness and ego with a joke and a smile.
I have a counter argument. Roger Waters seems to be the only one in the world who can deal with Nick Mason's silliness, and lack of any ego, with a joke and a smile.
When was the last time our beloved petrol-headed Nickey addressed the UN on the subject of humanitarianism?
Simply because Roger made the reconciliation if he hadn't things would have been very different
@cliddily Who cares what Nick does and doesn't do. I would bet he's donated a bunch to some cause. Sure, Waters loves to yak about world politics and the wrongdoers of society and in his mind.
@@MikeBrady-l9k exactly how I felt after listening to David Gilmour's luck and strange
Why am I inflicting this on me!😬
I've read and heard Mason say negative things about David and Rick.

For those of you who aren't English, this is how you know two people in England are really good friends, they constantly take the piss out of each other, like Roger and Nick are doing here.
Greg Williams really ??
yes really, when we grew up in England, persecution and banter are compulsory, but it helps us as we get older
This is know as "Bantz", to use current vernacular.
Greg Williams this is a thing in a lot of countries
People do this everywhere...
No pre-commercials. Thank you Roger. Thank you Nick.
Great to watch these two together. There is so much history and not all of it was good. They know it, they've moved past it but it still resonates. I think these guys truly care for each other even though Rogers ego got the best of him a while back.
I don't think it's as simple as blaming it all on Rogers' ego. I mean, he was, in effect, the captain of the ship; the main
creative force in the band by far. If it wasn't for his writing and conceptual ideas, Pink Floyd would probably have
been forgotten after Ummagumma.
That said, when you have a band with 4 egos in it, and not just one, there's bound to be feelings of jealousy
and creative differences. And I can understand that each one of them felt like they had things to contribute
but were being overshadowed by Waters' genius talent. That's not an easy pill to swallow when you're a young
man with talents of your own that you want to express.

I don't think there was any taking over.
Nick looks really happy to do this

I’ll accept David and roger not performing together, if they do a sit down q&a like this one.
I think they would just end up arguing.
Nick and David don't seem to have the early friendship bond.
the personal wall question had me close to tears..
"You are not a musician, you´re a drummer" Love Roger!! Good to see two old friends laughin and pissing each other..

Speed alone, doth not savagery make. I love watching Nick in the Pompeii movie. He's a joy to behold, and might be describable as savage. And this little movie was great. I want the unexpurgated version.

I love this seeing Roger and Nick having good conversation together.

The best thing about the interview is seeing the expression of happiness that Roger gives us when he talks about oh he refers to Syd

This is pure gold. There's so much of unspoken things going on here that we'll never ever know. As tense as it may look. These 2 are founding members and will always have that bit of history to them. As much as david "bloomed" in his latter years........these 2 along with richard and syd will forever be .....THE FIRST MEMBERS.
True, but everyone will forever associate David with Pink Floyd.
