It would have been more fun

"You just hate it because you hate strong women" said Netflix to the fans of Claire Redfield and Jill Valentine
Ada Wong and Rebecca Chambers too
Zoe of RE7, Rose of RE8
They don't know there are a lot of strong, powerful women in RE Universe, they are just not interested with the story at all. And look what they created.
Claire was great, Jill was awesome, Rebecca Chambers, very clever and brave for her age, Ada Wong, badass waifu material, holy shit, the games had so many strong female characters with personality that I didn't care that they were women at all.
Oh and we had sheva too, I didn't like her because she was black, I didn't give a shit about her skin color, it just found her to be too shallow, but well Chris wasn't that charismatic too in RE5, just a muscle bloke.

I love that in their zeal to crowbar in "the message", they basically show a world that's run by women as the most dystopian place imaginable
Seems to be a running theme. Was like that in that shit-show Star Trek Picard.
Art imitating real life unfortunately. if humanity studies this time period in a few hundred years & it is recorded honestly, I believe people will trace the beginning of our societies collapse to the day that we let women have the right to vote.
That is true. Have u seen germany?

Lance is way too talented for this shit show. If Netflix was even remotely smart or self aware, they'd pull this and pretend it never happened. This public embarrassment is a perfect example of why Netflix is losing money and otherwise failing to produce any kind of content worth paying a sub for.
And it’s honestly quite sad, cuz Netflix has had some of my fav shows ever like Cobra Kai, Stranger Things, and especially Daredevil. But of course somehow Disney found a way to be even worse than Netflix by stealing Daredevil to add on to their fricked up canon.
Netflix is hiding behind the cost of living crisis and password sharing for their dropping subscriber numbers, when in fact its just crap content.
Not that I've seen much of his work but Reddick was in The Wire for Christ's sake! He deserves better than this nonsense.
Netflix are taking the shotgun approach to stuff because consumers are idiots. Eventually they will produce something decent. It's the monkey typewriter in effect.
Ahh you must have seen him in Fringe, he was razor sharp Every single time

You literally had "Strong Women" in the form of Jill, Ada, Claire, Sheva, and Sherry.
And they couldn't even be bothered to make them characters in this show.
THAT alone tells me this show was not made by people who are fans of the video games :/

Yes. Considering the game is about 5 hours long.
I don't understand why they don't just do that. I mean, it's like they think people that love the original Resident Evil games, do not want to see the games being played out in movie form so they go off and throw in tons of crazy shit that moves away from the spirit of the games because that's apparently what fans will love? Chris, Jill, Leon, Claire, Ada, Sheva, and Berry are all as capable and competent as each other and I think that's a lot of why those characters are popular.

Why is it that every modern "strong female character" have to be written as a horrible role models for young women?
Because the writers are horrible people
it's because they are now universally casting looks over actual acting talent. If they can present the "message" via an attractive face then it doesn't seem so blatant, apparently.

No. Women have the right to buy a hair dye and make themselves look beautiful. Also, patriarchy. Also, fuck reality. This is a movie for kids or something
Have you ever played the Resident Evil games?
The writers clearly didn't.
The Mila Jovovich movies are golden and Oscar worthy compared to the heap of dog ish Netflix dropped. I seen the whole season and it was a complete waste of hours I’ll never get back ever again…
The fck up of Resident Evil really started when they got the literal perfect Jill Valentine (played by Sienna Guillory) and chose to make her a side-character. She could’ve carried the entire franchise-given her charisma, dedication to her role (with her even playing RE3 to better understand Jill), and her overall likability- with a far better script and plot.
I almost completely forgot that Hollywood used to cast well at least if nothing else
Yeah but Milla Jovovich was fucking Paul WS Anderson, so Resident Evil got to be a vehicle to make action movies about milla jovovich.
@@brentharlow3559 pretty much. God i hate those two
Sienna was spicy
I've always wanted her to come back to the role
Honestly when it comes to “strong female characters” it’s starting to get a bit ridiculous. These writers think they can take the toxic men personality that people didn’t like on screen and just give it to the female characters. if no one liked that on men why would they like it on women either. It just gives you these cold asshole characters that are never likeable not to mention they’re just flipping it around instead of making it actual equality. The whole thing just pisses me off
Very well put. Couldn't agree more.
When men do it, it's toxic. When women do it, it's "standing up for yourself", or "expressing your power", or... pick your hackneyed phrase of the day.
Seriously, read some of the books meant for children these days; it's cringe-inducing. Girls: "You can do anything! You are awesome!" Boys: "DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING WITHOUT PERMISSION!"
My friend you are asleep on politics. I can't blame you but saying that the portraial of women and men is "starting to get rediculus" is an understatement.
List the films that have many man in them and woman that reflect the actual qualities of woman. You will find it's has degraded since cinema started. So why should the cultural marxists stop now? The audience has slowly been boiled to the point where most movies have nothing in common with real life. They move closer to the shit Marcuse wants to see in the world.
They just entered overdrive. Time to stand and speak up now or you will never see films like James bond or top gun ever again
They probably want to show, "Woman can be what ever they want." even evil/bad.
Those traits didn’t become toxic in men until they gave them to women. Since the dawn of civilisation (i.e. post tribal), what would be considered masculine traits have been the governing paradigm; what gets laughingly referred to as “the patriarchy”. So once women were given equality in the areas they didn’t have it before (but conveniently got to keep their supremacy in any other areas) then in order to compete in society they adopted masculine traits. But since they still couldn’t compete with those traits (almost because those traits have some kind of, oh, I donno, *biological* source), then the narrative had to be changed so that when a woman demonstrates them it’s “strong” but when a man demonstrates them it’s “toxic”.

Ya know as a side note I think Antony Starr would make a really good Wesker, put him in some shades and slick that hair back and we'd be set for an actually good Wesker in a film supposing the writers dont cock it up. I think a movie about Umbrella between the events of RE4 and RE5 would be cool to see maybe a movie that fills in the blanks of what lead up to Chris and Jill meeting Wesker at the mansion and ending the movie with Jills faux sacrifice as she didnt really die of course. I think something along those lines of a more investigative cat and mouse type movie where Wesker infects a town lets say with a virus and basically Chris and Jill have to fight their way through and find clues to get to Wesker and have their fight in the mansion be the finale with a little bit more tacked on for a cinematic experience as opposed to just a quick 2 minute fight. Regardless its sad to see the film adaptions of a great game be so garbage really since the beginning, the only half decent things are the CG movies and thats not saying a whole lot.
Chris and Jill flew with Wesker to the mansion. They could even have a movie about the scientists who were in charge of feeding the mutated dogs at the mansion. The one dude is woken up by another and told to put on a biohazard suit. Once he develops a rash, he is told he doesn't need it anymore. Eventually, he is playing a card game with his friend, and his brain starts to decay.... killing the friend. You see this guy in the first RE game when he bursts out of the closet to attack you after reading his journal. ITCHY TASTY.
Antony Starr would be amazing as Wesker. He's perfect for the role.
Honestly my favourite part about this masterpiece of a series was when Albert Wesker said: ‘Its Weskin’ time!’ and decided to magically transform from a blonde white dude to black middle aged man with kids. Truly one of the moments of movie-history!
For the rest of my life, I will not understand looking at one of the most irredeemable, heartless villains of this franchise, a blue-eyed blond racial supremacist who is literally trying to engineer a worldwide genocide of "lesser people", and going, "I know, let's make him black!"
Seriously, wtf. They had their favorite villain stereotype all wrapped up and ready to go, right there where the fans would defend that decision to the death, and they couldn't even do THAT right!
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

Simple: They choose not to take the time to play through a game slowly and get a grasp for the characters, their actions and reactions to things, the motivations of the villains, the stress of managing their limited resources with even MORE limited space of their inventory. It's too scary for them, or the puzzles are too hard for them to figure out without a guide.
Heck, they may not play video games at all. Though really if they don't play the games they could at least watch someone play through it. But they can't be bothered to do that either. These are people with a passion for nothing that they make shows or movies about, and so garbage is the final product. At least with older games from the NES and SNES era there was an excuse for 'video game based on a movie' being either weird or just plain garbage, but in today's world the only excuse is laziness. Why bother doing something the right way when you can look up a summary on wikipedia and some fan art for backgrounds instead?
Fun fact: The first and second game do NOT take place at the same time.... the second and third do however. "Welcome to Racoon city" is the "operation racoon city" of the film industry.

Ethan Winters losing his hands, Claire babysitting a random kid, Chris punching the boulder, Ada Wong toying with Leon have better plot and storyline than whatever Netflix is trying to make their own "Resident Evil"
This is my theory: A group of writers/producers wanted to profit off of a zombie themed property, They throw around ideas and scripts until they hit on the idea that the story is like one of those Resident Evil movies. Hey! Let's make a Resident Evil series! Then they shoe horn some events and characters into their scripts, even importing Weskar as a name/character, making sure he is the correct race. Thank you CD for reviewing this piece of crap!
I genuinely don’t get why they constantly try to piggy back off of already established properties like cowboy bebop, death note & resident evil etc, it’s like they take a light spray of the essence of these IP’s just to make it vaguely recognisable as said thing & then decide to scrap all the source material and tell their own shitty story using already established characters and themes, why not just make your own show at that point? It’s just piggybacking off of someone else’s success, the death note adaption wasn’t even close to being death note, same with cowboy bebop, why not just make your own space bounty hunter show with a different name instead of just taking the name of another and making it your own story?
"not caring about their reputation" may be off, because they almost ruined RE themselves and had to dial it back imensly to make it scary again.
@@bruhdon4748 Thats all lazy ass modern business mangers know how to do is piggy back on other's reputations. Not limited to hollywierd, they constantly buy out reputable brands and immediately destroy the quality so they can scam a short term boost in margin before word gets out. Nothing more than slash and burn agriculture.
Never buy a brand that was recently bought out. Its not really the reputation of the brand as it is the reputation of the management team behind it.
I did a dateline of every RE game ever made. Jesus, I never realized there were so many. And to think that they might actually still be profitable. Wow....
As for this TV show, I don't think Capcom cared. Their executives just wanted another paycheck from Netflix. This isn't Star Wars where everything has to be canon. Hell, Capcom games could never even reference this TV series. Like it never existed. And I think that was the point. Capcom got paid specifically not to interfere with the production design. And in response Capcom took that request to heart. So they didn't promote it and will likely ignore it in all of their other game associated products. And no, I don't see there being a season 2. Netflix screwed up another IP that should have made them money hand over fist if they had just been loyal to the source material. The problem is nobody in the production team probably even had spent 10 minutes playing a RE game. They probably read a game review on the the game highlights and called it a day. A 20 minute internet search that created the ground work for this mess.
My Theory is that South Park is correct: Just like Manatees and Idea Balls generates Family Guys - Rats and Garbage are used to make new Netflix shows.
When is someone gonna give this legendary franchise a break?
Just play the games and stay clear of this shite
Less whites pls 😜🙏
Never.
I like the show a lot tbh
The games are fine (for the most part), it's just the movie/show adaptations that are trash.
Thankfully Capcom would never ruin their own characters like they did with Jill in the RE3 remake. Oh, wait...
They didn't ruin her in that game.
Netflix is insane to release something like this. They turned a sci-fi show about Zombies into a High School soap-opera for 12yr old Girls. If you like Teen K-pop dramas with family issues ,you're in for a treat.
Resident Evil isn't even about zombies is the thing.
Except "Train to Busan" made it clear Korea actually knows how to do zombie thrillers...unlike this.
@@johntumahab323 And if you do want to mix Korean zombie thriller with a high school setting, there's already "All of Us are Dead."
What are K-pop dramas?
It's like the drinker says, "who's this for?" It sits there with an 18 certificate with a plot for 11 year olds.. I just don't get it
A film adaptation of RE1 with just one person walking through a house, collecting items and solving logic puzzles would have been more interesting.
I'd rather watch Jill barricade herself in a room and work her way through 100 sudoku puzzles than suffer through this series.
Chris or Jill? Fuck it, both! Have a show that depicts both. You could do a split cast thing, like how in Stranger Things S4 they show the Cali group and then cut to the Hawkins group, etc; they could show Jill, then cut to Chris and show some of his experiences so far (obviously Jill would be almost completely alone aside from Barry for most of it, so as to note alleviate tension).
I agree it would also be lower budget.
To be fair that's basically every run on UA-cam without commentary and those videos do amazing lol it's like you really need to try to fuck resident evil up
Don't they have a Zombie arcade shoot'em up game where you are in a mansion and nothing but zombies of all kinds chase you? Make that into a movie..
When I saw Jade Wesker being the so called Badass female character that fights zombies, monsters and survives I was like, oh well I guess the husband is the scientist. But no, she is the brilliant scientist too and the husband is just a house husband taking care of her daughter (that isn't his on top of that).
One thing is the message but this truly is just trying to pretend people are something they are not
what do you mean "just a house husband" Why would you consider it inferior that a man takes care of family-life? And why would it be outrageous that a woman is a scientist? Do you actually think through what you are writing?
@@endlessstudent3512 you must be new to woke media
@@endlessstudent3512 You have a show where the badass action hero is also a scientist, and it's a bit cheesy. Then they come home to a place-holder spouse, raising their kid for them while they go off and "adventure" on their own for half-a-year at a time in a post-apocalyptic hellhole, and the hero really seems like a jerk.
Gender swapping the roles doesn't make it better.
@@endlessstudent3512 The trouble is that they apparently have to put men into submissive roles to make the women seem cool. I like a movie with a well done house-husband, and nobody would mind of it was at least a bit realistic. But no, just pile everything onto one character and expect it to be believable, like a high skilled combat woman who also is a brilliant scientist? That sounds like a Mary-sue..
@@DJBabb Ture, but I heard no one complain in the many movies before, where the guy was badass scientist and away for long periods while the house-wive was home alone. There are many such examples out there. But thats normal and accepted. If it is displayed the other way around, people take offense. And that should not be the case. And while I agree that the series is badly done, I think thats because the plotholes, not because of some color/gender swaps.
