The journalist seemed to highlight the lack of development and costume to make a claim that Africa was backward. But they'd probably get in trouble if the African zombies were in gleaming modern cities and all wearing Gucci. Oddly enough, the minority group that should be everywhere in the game, Native Americans, well... Apparently Ubisoft isn't aware those people exist.
The best part about the boulder punching is in Resident Evil 8 when fighting Heisenberg Chris blows up the factory and Heisenberg calls him "that boulder punching asshole" meaning Chris punching a boulder is just common knowledge in Resident Evil world
I like the idea that Chris is indeed famous for this. A body camera or something managed to capture it and the feds use it as propaganda. "Who needs superviruses when even regular people can punch boulders?" Chris is super embarrassed by this and everyone he knows teases him, and of course all the villains who try and use super-science to take over the world know him solely for this. Not his years of dedicated service or numerous successful missions, but him desperately punching a boulder to destroy a weirdo in a volcano.
Sidenote about blackhawk down: Malaysian filmakers recently released a movie covering the battle of mogadishu, but from the malaysian armed force’s perspective, who were operating under the UN banner. Its should be on netflix, though im not sure if its region-locked, n im not sure if its dubbed in english.

I've replayed through the whole of Resident Evil 5 a few months ago in co-op with a friend and the game aged TERRIBLY mechanics-wise imo. It came out around that time Capcom was unsure whether they wanted RE to be horror or action, so they made something that was kinda bad at both. Had all the cliché trappings of it's time too like a few corridor shaped levels, scripted turret sequences and unnecessary QTEs. Reminder of the absolute "masterpiece" RE6 that came after it being the peak of that Capcom phase. It's super due to a remake and tbh, Capcom is in a much better place now, and is frankly one of the few companies I'd half expect to have the balls to try it in [current year]. Besides, please, Sheva and skintight bodysuit evil Jill both deserve the HD treatment!
If you've seen how Dragon's Dogma 2 was deliberately ruined in pursuit of MODERN AUDIENCES you wouldn't say Capcom is in a better place now *or* think they have balls.
Watch The Electric Underground’s review of Resident Evil 5. He explains all the awesome mechanics of RE5. It’s an action game through and through (so is RE4).
@@kanrakucheese I haven't checked much on Dragons Dogma 2, but if you mean they have that annoying "Los Angeles demographic in medieval Europe" thing modern Fantasy tends to have, they already had that in Dragons Dogma 1, it wouldn't make much sense to change now. @@Jasper_Silva No, I'm talking about how they deliberately limited the character creator. The demo has a bunch a bunch of options that are fully implemented and work fine, but can only be accessed by memory edits or modding. These are all things essential to making attractive female characters (which they removed, now you have "body type"s)
Sub-Saharan, or central, Africa is where a large portion of some of the earliest zombie stories, legends, and mythologies, started popping up. So, these ‘journos’ acting so panicky and horrid about this, and wanting it expunged, is a form of cultural erasure. The returned dead, the vengeful deceased, ghouls and disembodied wraiths are a part of all of our cultures, stories and spiritual traditions either written or oral.
The Land O' Lakes thing was funny for me as a Native, mostly because it let me wise-crack them for removing the Native but keeping the land. I honestly kind of liked having her on the packaging. Stuff like that feels more like, I don't know, acknowledgement to me. I feel differently about sports teams using Natives as mascots, though, mostly because usually mascots are animals and I don't like the association. Also having been to some Sioux games (before they changed the name), I didn't much like how my tribal name was getting used there. It certainly wasn't respectful. Of course, I don't pretend to represent all Natives or even just my own tribe, just myself. Actually I had an uncle who was very much a fan of the Chiefs and the Redskins, seemingly just because of their names. I know there were Sioux from Spirit Lake who liked UND having that name and were very upset when they changed it. But I also know there were plenty from Standing Rock who were against the university's use of the name. Of course one of my problems over the matter is that no one ever much bothers asking us, unless a court orders it.
They want to force black people into settings where they don't belong, and blackwashing existing characters. All the while they also don't want black people to appear in settings where they DO belong. It's almost like it's about erasure and not representation or something.

They should rewrite the story because that game had some issues, but Capcom did solved those claims of racism in RE5 by giving Sheva a Tribal bikini in her costume.
Sigh, I miss the days where a bit of afterthought level superficial pandering was considered enough to STFU the critics, and everybody then just moved on.
I genuinely wonder who it is that's "Speaking for us" when it comes to some journalists trying to be political. Is it just me that's noticed the target "victims" are usually not even part of the conversation. I'm of African descent and it didn't even dawn on me while playing the game. It's like you can't win, the same person would probably complain about the "lack of diversity" if they rewrote it to be "PC" in their eyes. Keep up the good work Drinker & Mauler
Once upon a time, long before George Romero, the ONLY zombies were black ones. The term "zombie" comes from a mythical voodoo practice of faking someone's death and then enslaving them with cocktails of drugs. A "white zombie" was a novelty in the horror genre.
@@EvilDoresh I've watched that film and got it on DVD alongside two other films that Bela Lugosi was in. Also Plague of the Zombies had zombies created from voodoo.
"Africa was a dark continent full of disease, slaughter, cannibalism... a desolate apocalypse, the few remaining broken walls of ruined buildings the only visible remnant of civilisation that once inhabited the land." and then the zombie virus arrived
No black zombies allowed? Well, tell that to the stuntman in the first Paul WS Anderson _Reaident Evil_ film who portrayed a zombie and went against Alice before she meets the dogs, IIRC. I believe he was also one of the stunt coordinators.
Well, you could have gone, but the security forces would have harassed a person like that all the way. Not limited JUST to minorities either - they would have rotated subversives through their "prisoner handlers" as well for information. Their police services were PACKED with military types fresh from the Namibian/Angolan border war, after all.

Hate to be the "Um, actually" guy here, but T.J. Storm has only played Godzilla in 2014 and King of the Monsters (2019). After that, Godzilla isn't portrayed via mo-cap in Godzilla vs. Kong nor will there be mo-cap performance for him in GxK: The New Empire.
“Zombies” actually originated in Africa. It was a form of punishment where the victims were given a potion which contained tetrodotoxin. They were called “Nzambe.”
I think the funny thing as well is that there are also lighter skinned zombies in RE5, it's one of the default 4 or 5 basic Majini you fight in that game. But once you get out into the wilderness and swamps and fight the tribe, they're all black. I always through it was a pretty good storytelling device, as there shouldn't be any white characters within the RECLUSIVE AND PARANOID tribe.
iirc, the lighter-skinned villager zombies in RE5 were a last-minute change that Capcom made after Western gaming "journalists" kicked up a stink about the early preview images. Didn't make much sense having such a racial mix in remote African shanty towns, but if they kept it all-black in the later wilderness areas then at least _some_ sense prevailed.
Even if they weren’t zombies, and this was a fictional West African area filled with crime and violence, it’s not like that isn’t currently happening. And if some fantastical Western hero came over and enforced Western values, that doesn’t sound outside the realm of a good story. I think everyone can agree that Western democracy is objectively better, where if you kill someone, you’re going to be punished. Compared to some of these cities where the person who is the best at killing can take over an entire village, town, or even a city through violence and crime, and assert themselves as the governing body. This isn’t what RE5 did, but even if it did, would it be so bad? I’m not saying some Western vigilante should start enforcing their values with violence in West Africa, but in a video game where this type of violence is normal, I think there are a lot worst examples. Like in GTA, part of the marketing is that you can be a criminal who get away with killing anyone for any reason, compared to a guy going over and killing gang members who have taken an entire city under slavery, really doesn’t sound that politically incorrect. That is unless you’re racist like IGN is and focus on the skin colors instead of the values.
Yawn... a lot of tired rhetoric from an ignorant colonialism apologist, too dumb to understand that white invaders are why Africa is in the state it is today.

Perhaps they can put Resi 5 on hold until this woke nonsense blows over and we get back to some normality. In the meantime Codename Veronica can do with a redo. If they do proceed with 5, then I hope the Japanese developers don't succumb to the western game industry mind virus to change the local, but if they do, I'll be staying away from it as I still have the Xbox 360 release.
Capcom deliberately ruined Dragon's Dogma 2 to appeal to the wokes (chest size is artificially limited to a very small range, but memory editing shows a much wider range was fully implemented).

7:51 - The issue was that they had an entire ethnic group 'go native' in response to trying to deal with Wesker's fuckery, which was passed off in part due to the influence of the Mother Virus in the plants they grew and were using to fight the Plaga-infected folks before somehow or other falling under Wesker's influence. The whole thing was more meant as dumb pulp stuff, as far as I can tell considering it had ancient cities and stupidly complex traps along with ancient evils, but I 'get' those complaints and they've got some ground to stand on.
The people going native wasn't all that much different from the way the people in RE4 and RE8 responded to the plague. The Spanish and Eastern European people in those games also went native and regressed at least a hundred years.
Depends what you mean by "go native" though. If you're talking about the tribal enemies in the game, then I'd say no, because if I remember right the backstory there was that they were already of a primitive mostly-uncontacted tribe before the events of the game. They didn't start out as city dwellers and then "regress" to a primitive tribal lifestyle in response to the events leading up to the game, they started out that way. Which is fine imo, people do live like that. There would be ground to stand on if we had the Plagas infection regressing the Spanish villagers in RE4 one way, then the African city dwellers another way, but I'm pretty sure that's not what happens.
TJ Storm is also that black guy who got his soul sucked by Shang Tsung after battling Liu Kang! AND, the guy also lend his voice to other Capcom titles, like english voice for Birdie in Street Fighter 5 and Strider Hiryu in Marvel vs Capcom. So yeah, hes pretty cool!
These people will claim that RE5 was suggesting that Africans are subhuman, and then turn around and complain about media literacy being dead, because people don’t care about how Helldivers 2 has a comedic edge to it.
I want to see IGN's take on mowing down in Spanish. EDIT: Chris' boulder punching ways were confirmed as canon in RE8 so it HAS to be included in a remake :D
The only reason why i think this could be a blessing in disguise is because i want with all my heart, if Capcom necessarily has to do another remake (which i honestly don't, but that's a whole different conversation), they'd better do Outbreak, i wanted it since RE2make came out, instead we had to endure that colossal disappointment of 3make
I mean, at first glance, hordes of African people getting mowed down by the white main character can elicit a bit of side-eye. But the more you look into it you realize that Capcom did a fairly respectable job of depicting and pulling from African culture and mythology for some of the enemies and monsters in the game. Really, the further in you get, the more you realize the Majini/villagers are the victims in the story, same with the Ganados of RE4. The main villain is the hamtastic Albert Wesker, the dude who literally wants to apply eugenics and social Darwinism to the whole world.
@@richardhockey8442 Vampires will probably be at the bottom, considering they tend to be rich white guys. "Game journalists" have discovered that talking about a game only about the story, the fun, the characters, the technology used, the performances...... what should be their job, can only fill a couple of pages of text.

Sub-Saharan, or central, Africa is where a large portion of some of the earliest zombie stories, legends, and mythologies, started popping up.

Once upon a time, long before George Romero, the ONLY zombies were black ones. The term "zombie" comes from a mythical voodoo practice of faking someone's death and then enslaving them with cocktails of drugs. A "white zombie" was a novelty in the horror genre.

Perhaps they can put Resi 5 on hold until this woke nonsense blows over and we get back to some normality. In the meantime Codename Veronica can do with a redo. Who needs black zombies? All you need to do is change the name from Resident Evil 5 to 'Shithole Simulator: Haiti Edition' and offer custom skins for the "cannibal gangs" as pre order bonuses.
