I think that might say more about their views on lawyers, rather then logic. So, maybe it was supposed to be a joke? (I dunno, almost ALL the jokes didn't land for me.. They just weren't funny)
Baggage Claim made a great point: Jen Walters thinks focusing on meeting on her own social needs is less self-centered (or narcissistic), than literally saving the earth from extinction-level events.
Naaah. If the best work feminist writers can put forth is 'girls rule and boys drool', they need to work at a place more suited to their skills: bowling alley janitors.
The sad thing is narcissists can’t take criticism or see themselves in the wrong, even tho everyone’s telling them their show sucks and they’re narcissists, in their eyes everyone else must just be sexist or jealous or something
Narcissists never take the blame. They’re always the victim in their eyes. Worse part is that it’s a personality disorder, which is clinically harder to treat from what I know.
@@mar.prz10 The treatment for narcies is as follows: a few silver bullets in vital places, a sharp wood through the heart, off with her head (yes, most current narcies are ladies or effeminates. Sue me), then leave the remains under the Sun for an entre week just to be sure. Narcies are also called "emotional vampires" for many good reasons.
And they even got that wrong. Women carry their shoes in hand is because they wear high heels and are difficult in the morning. Daredevil would never carry his boots that way.
The relationship between Hicks and Ripley is a perfect example of how to write a strong independent woman falling for a strong masculine guy, both learning from each other, both respecting each other both equals yet bringing individual parts to each other. How have writers missed this?
@@SiriuslyBlack7 nah cause a movie just came out that did strong women without making the men look weak and there wasn’t even a real romance. I’d check out the woman king.
And this was portrayed without a single kiss or cliched romantic scene with them. Just pure respect, admiration and the chemistry between the characters was enough. One of the reasons why the movie was so successful.
The sad thing is nobody realizes that while in the comics, both Jen and Matt are lawyers in New York; Jen is a lawyer in LA in the show. So (drumroll) Matt wouldn't be able to just 'show up and handle a case' in LA because in America you have to be licensed in *each state* you practice law. Passing the bar is not a country-wide pass because every state has different laws.
Funnily enough, this was touched up on in "My Cousin Vinny". There, Vinny had to be brought in to represent his cousin accussed of armed robbery and a murder. Vinny had to talk with the judge that was handling the court case to allow him to be the representative, because he was out of his jurisdiction. The thing is, that's an actual thing - Pro Hac Vice Motion. It allows out-of-state attorneys to practice outside of their jurisdiction temporarily. I can bet you that if you were to bring that up to Jessica Gao or other writers, they wouldn't have a single clue about what the hell you're talking about. But if you were to talk with makers of My Cousin Vinny, I'd become apparent that they researched the stuff they were talking about.
@@bliczb8772 "Wait a minute. Did you say Jerry Gallo? Jerry Gallo's dead. Well, I'm not Jerry Gallo. I'm Jerry Callo. C-A-L-L-O." Edit: Funnily enough, as far as courtroom procedurals goes, a lot of legal experts give My Cousin Vinny high praise.
@@zwerrell While that is true, the lawyer must petition the court for permission to do it *before* he does it, rather than just being 'called in', as the show depicts. Charlie Cox is gonna carry Born Again.. the series is already bloated with 18 episodes and under writers from the MCU you’re not gonna get any “Does evil exist?” Level of dialogue from the Netflix series
@@firstlast9846 But they already _did_ Born Again in the Netflix show. Disney are rebooting it already, and Disney is going to do... Disney. What's the point?
Rogerborg - given what Disney have done with Andor and how that series is so far great.. I’d say it’s down to the MCU and Fiegie.. cos Star Wars has had good series under Disney.. the MCU is still yet to have a great series.
I did the male version of "the walk of shame" I called it "the pride stride" It was after a wedding, had a wild night with a bridesmaid and was walking back to my car in a bedraggled suit and this guy saw me at a crosswalk, smiled, and we gave eachother thumbs up because he knew and I knew he knew and we were both happy
Another great example of a hero who didn't start with Altruism is actually Spider-Man, he wanted to use his abilities to make money in wrestling matches and-like Tony-had to be shown the damages he can cause. In his case it was a thief he let go after being swindled, and because of that his uncle Ben was murdered. That's one of the reasons he has one of the strongest sense of who he is in the comics. He knows what happens if he isn't responsible with his powers. In fact, in the psychological profiles conducted by Maria Hill, she has stated that nobody has as strong an ingrained identity as Spider-Man, further demonstrating the extent of his willpower. His willpower is so strong that he has been considered as the greatest of all the Spider-Totems in the Multiverse by some of the other Spider-Mans n the multiverse.
I hadn't seen any episodes of she Hulk before this one, but decided to watch it anyways just because of my boy Matt Murdock. Charlie Cox absolutely stole every scene he was in and was an infinitely more likeable and charismatic character than anyone else in the episode. I barely managed to finish the episode after he left because every other character was just insufferable Also there was a definite downgrade in the quality of the fight scenes for daredevil with an over-reliance on CGI compared to the Netflix Daredevil, where every fight scene felt incredibly grounded and real, even when he was fighting multiple ninjas at once
Exactly right. I myself have seen She-Hulk before and liked exactly nothing about it, no characters were good. And Charlie was above and beyond everything they have ever done. And I also agree about the CGI stuff. Just to see him throw a guy against the wall made him seem super-human. Whereas on his show it was far more realistic. Does not bode well for his show.

When I see this episode, I imagine the writers and directors at a sleep over telling each other crush stories. Then one of them says something like “I had a dream once that I made out with daredevil” and thats how they got the script.

My husband and I gave the show a chance. I was really hoping for some solid character development and going in the direction of Jen realizing how self absorbed and selfish she is and working to change. But the show seems to embrace that as a good thing and I hate it. It was a huge disappointment to see them go the direction they did.

After all this you still want him back in the MCU? Come on man, fuck no. They need to stay away from the Punisher and every other Netflix character. Disney is not gonna provide that.

@@ThelaziaCafe Violence and gore doesn’t equal good writing. Not that I don’t agree that it needs to be R rated to keep consistency with the dark nature of the character, but you can’t have one without the other. Elements of the 'Walk of Shame' involve having poor or smeared make-up, a party dress that is now crumpled and not fresh, often going barefoot due to being hungover and having only high heels, as well as a somewhat public declaration of sex which can make a woman's life hard. Bystanders see a somewhat ridiculous, clumsy, embarrassed figure. Literally none of that applies to men. It's like the female writers just wanted to shame a man without thinking a bit about the context.
I grew up watching marvel in the 90s on fox kids. Those shows rocked and she hulk then was sexy, funny ,deep voiced and a hero who wanted to save lives!
Long post: I really liked the courtroom scenes. I thought Matt and Jen actually played off each other quite well and it helped me warm more to Jen's character. Credit where credit's due, they nailed those elements. But I gotta be honest... once he put on the costume, I was far less happy. This is the same character who sat in a confession box, begging forgiveness for the things he was about to do with his fists, bones he was going to break, the people he was going to hurt, because of wrongs he couldn't right in a courtroom. A man who wrestled with his conscience for a whole season over whether it was right or wrong to kill the Kingpin to stop his reign of terror. A man fully aware of the pain and hurt he causes when he beats people bloody. A man who hated what he had to do, but did it anyway. That was Daredevil. To see the same character and actor, now cracking-wise while he's cracking skulls, making jokes and smiling his way through an (admittedly fun) warehouse siege, and spout one-liners like "That's why I love legal dramas!" broke my heart a little. Now... he enjoys it. Now it's fun. Now, he flirts while smashing people in the face. He gets deafened and unmasked in the middle of a street, is completely vulnerable, and just shrugs it off and tells Jen all about his powers. Now, he's a bit of a goofy Daredevil. When he held his ground in court and insisted Jen hadn't considered that the client list she was after would put heroes lives in danger, and what they do and their anonymity while they do it is a matter of life or death, I cheered. Yes. That's Matt Murdock. That felt real and grounded and it made sense. And her reaction to it made sense. And then the action scenes happen. Now, the things Matt Murdock does are like any other quippy MCU action set-piece. And I feel like that's a little bit of a waste. It broke my heart.
To be fair, Tony is not a real narcissist, he showed that with having loving healthy relationships, self sacrifice and his desire to to things for a greater good. He has narcissistic personality traits and a superiority complex but has even shown self doubt, and vulnerability at times.
He starts off as one was the point… which is kind of impossible to just switch off if you really genuinely are one but he at least has lived his life like one up until you know when in the first movie. Then he tries to kind of make up for his mistakes while still holding onto some of his arrogance. It’s not perfect but for a comic book story it is light years more character growth in anything your getting outta Disney period let alone she hulk. I would never trust Disney to do it but my favorite Iron Man story from the comic books has always been the mask in the iron man when he’s an alcoholic and really struggles with it. If they could make that a good story in 70s and 80s comics still largely geared towards teenagers they should’ve been able to pull it off somewhere in Tony’s run. Now I wouldn’t want them touching it with a ten foot pole but just like how she hulk got a little better with daredevil in the show cause someone stepped in and said okay we are taking this serious and you aren’t just shitting on this character cause he’s a superhero. They could get a team that really cares and make that great iron man story. It would be a great way to bring iron man back too. It doesn’t have to connect with anything. Just make it a time from his past. I have a feeling that Robert Downey Jr would be the perfect person to play addict Iron Man too. Lol obviously I’m not that into the MCU even before phase bore because they take away from the comics in my eyes and have shifted the comic book industry so vastly and so quickly that there isn’t even a single comic I buy anymore after being a weekly 30 year collector so I don’t know the ins and outs of the MCU. But in end game isn’t he just sitting around depressed for like five years? Or is he stuck in a spaceship or honestly I don’t remember. But anyways you could go back to that time period and you have five years to work with to tell this story in a new way for the MCU. And ya I wouldn’t even go see it so Nevermind. The MCU is just dead

I have to say, Charlie Cox was excellent in his appearance and when he was alongside She-Hulk, they had a believable friendly chemistry. I didn't realise he could pull humor off so well, but I genuinely laughed a few times.
I love how she constantly goes to her boss to get out of working with her client, with good reason in some cases but in others not really at all. He is always like shut up and stop complaining, which is suppose to be a bad thing but that is his job to make these decisions for the company.

My attempt for making She-Hulk into a better show: 1) After getting the new powers, she starts a new life and wants a new job 2) Somehow she realises that she wants to do something physical, but also good for society 3) New profession: construction worker 4) she works so hard, that she easily comes on top of her bew workplace and gets respected by everyone who works with her (in a male dominated environment) - soon all constructionworker see that she is the real deal with her strength and passion 5) given to her superpowers, she becomes the most capable and efficient construction worker the world has ever seen 6) she is capable of working without creating any pollution- therefore is absolutely climate friendly and is faster than most machines 7) soon she overtakes the construction company, which is happily given to her by the owner, because he respects her efficiency, business philosophy and knows that it's better in her hands. He becomes her right hand, who handles parts of the administration and helps her with his experience in this business 8) her business philosophy is to build affordable homes for people in need, because her superpowers make it possible to reduce production/construction cost to a bare minimum 9) even when she works now at the upper management, she doesn't consider herself too good for helping at the construction 10) she's mixing concrete with her own strength, all by herself without the use of any electricity 11) soon, she starts taking over the market as the strongest competitor 12) this is where the real problems begin 13) other construction companies want her gone 14) this is where she REALLY has to prove herself This is way more liberal and fleshed out than the shitshow we have to experience now.
Funny part to me is, the most logical outcome would be the other construction companies realizing that she's not actually a threat to them (personally) because she simply lacks the power to impact the market sufficiently to matter on the scales they operate at. Having some suit who represents the 'corrupt corporations' explain to her that no, they aren't behind the attacks on her and her company because they ran the numbers and don't need to care. So what if she produces cheap housing locally? Or even on the state level? They're multinational companies and this is driving their smaller local competitors out of business without meaningful impact on their bottom line. Heck, make it clear the corrupt corpos think she's doing it to have a natural (small scale) monopoly and they are trying to express to her that they're fine with that. Heck, imagine how awkward it would be for her to be congratulated on 'a cracking good business venture' by corporate fat cats. Then you can go where you like with it, but a realistic acknowledgement that she's not gonna get much notice from the big multi-national/national level companies would be fitting. It would also let you focus in on whatever the local business corpos were actually behind those efforts to remove her organically.

She hulk is the Disney + equivalent of a recording artist who spits out an album at break neck speed in order to fulfill a contract so they can go elsewhere
The first Wonder Woman is still the best modern interpretation of a female superhero. She's strong to the point of being nearly invulnerable, but she's unfailingly kind to others, even those who underestimate her and try to push her aside, or that are simply jaded. People with genuine strength don't need to convince other people they're strong; they just carry on with self-confidence. And when she fights, it's not because she wants to kill or is attacking in anger, she defends people weaker than herself, without even putting them down. she fights to stop war. That's empowering without being emasculating, or trying to mimic men. That's different without being hostile or self-righteous.
At the point you were discussing her competence as a lawyer, along with being given promotions and accolades I had a thought that stuck with me. Promoting and praising someone that cannot do their job properly seems like a good way to build up a believable scapegoat. After an absolute smoking failure of a case, the senior partners can point at all of her awards and such as proof that she knows what she is doing. Thus the failure must have been malicious, but on her end. After all, her bosses "knew" she was competent. Obviously that isn't what the writers are going for, but the idea sort of fit.
Or an insurance scam, build up her ego, knowing that if she gets mad enough she'll level the building... then publicly trash her as a scape goat. Watch the building implode and the public have zero sympathy at all for the person who just leveled a chunk of downtown. Collect on all that cash and let the public foot the repair bill along with keeping her away from any vengeance on you if she ever discovers the scheme.
When people began to value surface political ideologies over anything else... We are basically seeing the modern version of the "Christian Moms" all over again.

Wait you expected them to do research and their jobs? On a multi million dollar project that is just a barren dusty womb cat lady's fantasy? Hahaha.

I barely managed to finish the episode after he left because every other character was just insufferable
Also there was a definite downgrade in the quality of the fight scenes for daredevil with an over-reliance on CGI compared to the Netflix Daredevil, where every fight scene felt incredibly grounded and real, even when he was fighting multiple ninjas at once
That's Disney, over reliance on CGI when it comes to action and it's not even good CGI.
my boy Cox is a thief; he steals every scene with charismatic acting
Exactly right. I myself have seen She-Hulk before and liked exactly nothing about it, no characters were good. And Charlie was above and beyond everything they have ever done. And I also agree about the CGI stuff. Just to see him throw a guy against the wall made him seem super-human. Whereas on his show it was far more realistic. Does not bode well for his show.

Long post:
I really liked the courtroom scenes.

Lol obviously
I’m not that into the MCU even before phase bore because they take away from the comics in my eyes and have shifted the comic book industry so vastly and so quickly that there isn’t even a single comic I buy anymore after being a weekly 30 year collector so I don’t know the ins and outs of the MCU.

Let's assume that the book she had when speaking with Leap Frog, in her office, was the manual that LF received. HOW THE HELL did Jen miss the part about what kind of fuel to put into the suit before going to trial?
Because she's a *SPECTACULARLY* incompetent lawyer without the ability to do even the bare minimum of pre-trial work.
Why would she assume that Leapfrog was even telling the truth? Her clients have a habit of lying/omitting-truth.
Hopefully osmosis through daredevil jizz can make her a good lawyer, because she is not.
Honestly?
Women never have to read instructions/actually operate actual machines larger than a chip reader... Apparently.
Even if they're like 40, have gone through a supposedly meaningful education, are so "powerful" that they're still single, and have "social skills" that got them hired by Disney - despite a level of incompetence that hasn't been seen since some jackass banged a monkey with actual aids.
his initial court scene made this seem like a legit courtroom drama where she-hulk was the guest star
It's like the Seinfeld strategy, what if we made a show...for nobody?

One of my best friends really likes the show. He says it's just dumb fun and that he loves it. I really can't my mind around it, but it seems that there are some people who like this show.
I just don't understand praising bad writing and dumb fun, anyone can do that.
Sounds like my ex-wife. Watch out.
Sometimes a terrible show is just what you need. Scratches a specific itch or just catches something in the mind. Mine was Wynonna Earp.

For said friend turning out not to be that good. Yes, I'm projecting, and I hope I'm wrong.
Some people eat paint chips, but I'm not going to trust their opinion as a general rule.
My attempt for making She-Hulk into a better show:
1) After getting the new powers, she starts a new life and wants a new job
2) Somehow she realises that she wants to do something physical, but also good for society
3) New profession: construction worker
4) she works so hard, that she easily comes on top of her bew workplace and gets respected by everyone who works with her (in a male dominated environment) - soon all constructionworker see that she is the real deal with her strength and passion
5) given to her superpowers, she becomes the most capable and efficient construction worker the world has ever seen
6) she is capable of working without creating any pollution- therefore is absolutely climate friendly and is faster than most machines
7) soon she overtakes the construction company, which is happily given to her by the owner, because he respects her efficiency, business philosophy and knows that it's better in her hands. He becomes her right hand, who handles parts of the administration and helps her with his experience in this business
8) her business philosophy is to build affordable homes for people in need, because her superpowers make it possible to reduce production/construction cost to a bare minimum
9) even when she works now at the upper management, she doesn't consider herself too good for helping at the construction
10) she's mixing concrete with her own strength, all by herself without the use of any electricity
11) soon, she starts taking over the market as the strongest competitor
12) this is where the real problems begin
13) other construction companies want her gone
14) this is where she REALLY has to prove herself
This is way more liberal and fleshed out than the shitshow we have to experience now.
That actually sounds like something I would watch
It would also let you focus in on whatever the local business corpos were actually behind those efforts to remove her organically.
yea, no
@@Sorain1 this is actually awesome and a good foundation for her arc.
It really pisses me of, how easy it would have been to make this character into a real strong female, that uses her strength to be a force for good without being an insufferable and inconsistent cunt.

I love how you both act when she is with you! We all recognize that she is not norm. Thank you for appreciating that
If you didn't know, I'm referencing Baggage Claim! Beautiful, intelligent, and not desperate
She-Hulk: Attorney At Law’s penultimate episode is the one we’ve all been waiting for and then some. Charlie Cox’s return as Daredevil surpasses expectations, and he and Tatiana Maslany have undeniable chemistry. In the span of 30 minutes, this entry honors both of them and pushes forward its overall plot in unexpected and devastating ways. Tack on some welcome action and it’s easily She-Hulk’s best installment yet.
This guy gets satire.

If self insert was a series, it'd be she hulk. I'm glad it's tanking, but you have to feel sorry for the technicians on the show; the electricians, the carpenters, the makeup artists, the caterers and so on. Real people. But I won't shed a tear for the dreadful writers, script editors or producers.

It's funny how She-Hulk has become your own personal Iron Throne, Drinker. I hope one day you succeed, like Drogon, in giving it the blasting it deserves.
I've checked out of these kinds of shows. For most of my adult working life I was in catering and hospitality and because of that I missed a lot of shows from the early 2000s and onwards. I am currently bingeing Lost and Breaking Bad for the first time. These 2 shows are so interesting and fun to watch. The characters are brilliant. After I finish these I will binge The Wire and The Sopranos. The way people are talking about these shows makes me not even want to give them a chance. My two favourite shows of all time are, Banshee, and Spartacus: Blood and Sand. They were incredible shows, with Spartacus being a 10/10 for me. The best mini-series that I also watched and fell in love with was Sleeper Cell. It is something I highly recommend.
Great shows. Better Call Saul and Blacklist are good, too.
Banshee is insanely underrated.
The Wire may have been good during its time, but it’s too dated for me to watch in earnest. Pagers are brand new, computers are brand new…it’s so alien to the 21st century.
@@headpump Yea my friend said about Blacklisted. I will watch it. But I have to focus on shows from the 2000s and early 2010s. But I will get to it man. I appreciate you reminding me.
@@Lurch685 I understand what you are saying. But I have a great ability to lose myself in the time period and the time. It's why I am so fond of older movies. They have this quality about them I really adhere to. It could be because I was born in 1980 and have watched shows from and before this time period. I remember in 1987 watching shows and films from that time period and well before.
The narcissism thing could actually work if were intentional and they played into it, ending in her actually developing and becoming a better person. But that clearly doesn't seem to be the idea. It's all without an ounce of self-awareness.

I had an experience with a lawyer who broke the law, behaved unethically, repeatedly defied court orders, and actively worked to run her bills up as high as possible. She has multiple rewards and was in the process of receiving one for ethical behaviour while we were in court dealing with her shenanigans.

She hulk is the Disney + equivalent of a recording artist who spits out an album at break neck speed in order to fulfill a contract so they can go elsewhere
Not even. Sometimes those albums can be good
Or they can make whatever they want...even hot garbage and know it'll make money and then openly shame people who critique it. Welcome to Disney.
Baggage Claim is making some insanely solid point's 👏👏👏
She-Hulk is truly a show about nothing
Listening to this makes me feel like Electro in NWH.
Damn I love it here!
The craziest part is, that despite what an epic failure this show is, it’s all but guaranteed a second season. How did entertainment come to this?
When people began to value surface political ideologies over anything else... We are basically seeing the modern version of the "Christian Moms" all over again.
Her body counts awfully high for just 7 episodes. Inspired by S&TC much?
What does S&TC stand for?
S&TC?
sex and the city
Sex and the city. Avoid it like the plague as it's Patient Zero for the lifestyle the writers seem to aspire too.

Imagine if it was a pg-13 Deadpool, with the fourth wall breaking, tongue-in-cheek making fun of the genre but with love and respect for the genre. I feel bad for Tatiana. She can only work with the scripts that are given to her.
to the writers, female empowerment just means reversal of roles and the women can do whatever they want to the men so that the men can "feel what they felt"
I literally only laughed twice this whole season, and that was her dating profile I want a man with a strong back and a sturdy bed lol. But for a comedy one or two laughs is unacceptable.the second laugh was the man who can’t die when all of his ex wives were nagging him and he jumped out of the window.
