Nancy Wilson is an awesome guitarist. I've seen her perform the opening guitar riff countless times. She never does it the same way twice. She does something interesting at the end of the first part of the riff, before she transitions to the second part, and before Ann takes over with vocals. She changes guitar picks from a picker to a strummer, and she never does it the same way twice. I've seen her retrieve it from various parts of a mic stand and even picked it up off the stage floor. In this particular clip she actually has it hidden in her hair! Watch at :50
madmaxusa1 I’ll second that, my friend. This band’s Steamboat Annie is a classic by any standard and at every level of the recording. They have played this live for 42 years, always just as exciting as the record, which has to be one of the best engineered rock recordings ever. To me, the 1976 vinyl original sounded like one of those meticulous audiophile productions that you can find on UA-cam that have such outstanding sound even though the ultra-engineered source is crammed and diluted into a 128 kilobits per second stream. My research states that Crazy on You was Heart’s first single off the debut album, which surprised me because I first became aware of Heart by hearing Magic Man in frequent rotation on FM stations in the NYC area. I bought Tugboat Annie immediately after hearing Magic Man’s astonishing vocals and musicianship, so this is my 42nd year as a loyal fan of the band in studio or live. I also learned this evening that Nancy’s subtly changing intro has its own title, namely “Silver Wheels”, and that Nancy has said that her furiously strummed second part of the intro was inspired by the Moody Blues song “Question”, which seems obvious now that I know it. Finally, Heart’s live performances have been enriched with phenomenal covers of songs by their peers, and if ever called upon to do so, I would testify under oath that Heart is the greatest live performer of classic Led Zeppelin hits, arguably better than Zep, at least in the post-Bonham lineups. That’s my story, and I’m sticking with it. 😎
I think the opening on this track was originally performed by Roger Fisher. I could be wrong though. In the beginning Nancy was the rhythm guitarist. And did a perfectly great job of it.
John Baker Roger was the lead guitarist, but Nancy always played the acoustic guitar. There are tons of clips of the 1970s edition of the band... where Nancy plays the opening... ua-cam.com/video/AUm5E4LYgNA/v-deo.html
Somewhere on UA-cam there is a live version from back in the day where Nancy noodles around for 2-3 minutes (pretty awesome), then tosses off her first pick and pulls the second one from her bra strap. I remember the first time I saw it, I couldn't believe it.
One of the best guitar intros in human history IMO.

HEART: ALL!!!
Assuming the guys that played with them over the years.
Doesn't matter once Ann opens up.
i love me tons of guitars - makes for a full sound
and yet just one Ann... and she had issues with confidence??? with that set of pipes?
They originally had 2 one lead one rhythm and Nancy on acoustic rhythm
I tell you what Ann may be in 70's now but woman still has that power house voice Nancy early 70's still rock the hell outta shit HEART SISTERS💯💜🤘🤘🤘
Apparently she actually just turned 69 today (March 15,2023)! Your point is still spot on!
Nancy was 59 at this point.,...how awesome is this. Ann was 63... talk about longevity and taking care of your vocals.
63 and still singing like she did back in the day
one of the most underrated songs of all time! most people I know would say they have never heard it but to some of us it's legendary
I've always been into R&B, Smooth Jazz and in the 70's Funk but have never forgotten this song. Sounds just like the first time I heard it!!
Underrated by whom?
Never ever heard anyone refer to this iconic track as underrated haha
Absolutely legendary.
Hi Richard, maybe you should hang with people your own age,😜🤣😂, ALL THE BEST...TONY.
I said it before, this is the version of Heart!! These guys have not lost anything!! The Sisters should get these guys together and tour then retire!!
and that high kick after all these years still gives me chills
the original rock babes with the talent to back it up
I don’t care what anyone says these ladies are still beautiful! Ann’s powerful voice and Nancy’s energetic guitar playing never get old
My rock n’ roll heroes!!! These women can still rock!!! ❤
Ann's voice is incredible - range, projection, volume and vibrato have ALWAYS been so exceptional. Nancy is also great on guitar and vocals.
Nancy has gotten more beautiful with age and Ann's voice is even sweeter!!!
Ann’s still killing it after all these years. Amazing voice. Love this band. Watching it makes me empowered. 💪🏼❤️🙌🏼
You go girl!!! Even though I am a man... it strikes deep in to the woman within me! FYI: I am not gay... but am I not permitted to have these feelings as a heterosexual man?
@daAnder71 Everybody isn't built the same
@@michaelbstewart8892 little late, but hell yeah you’re allowed that! Thank you! This intro is what got me wanting to play guitar as a teenager
The greatest guitar intro in classic Rock ever
such talented sisters still stand the test of time
Roger mf'n Fisher! Dude is a legend on guitar

Stairway to heaven kennedy
Somewhere on UA-cam there is a live version from back in the day where Nancy noodles around for 2-3 minutes (pretty awesome), then tosses off her first pick and pulls the second one from her bra strap. I remember the first time I saw it, I couldn't believe it.
