Taken from her instructional video from 1996. She calls this Silver Wheels, which is also the title of the instrumental she plays on Bebe Le Strange. It is the same song, just different parts of it...if you check out live performances of her doing the intro to COY, you can see she intertwines them as she usually includes segments of the Bebe Le Strange version. She also sometimes likes to throw in a few bars of the song Hijinx from the Dog and Butterfly album, as well as a bit from Babe I'm Gonna Leave You. Here is a link to her discussing the inspiration for this song, Paul Simon's 'Angie'....or as she puts it, how she 'ripped him off' ; )

As a side note, Paul Simon's version of this song was a redo of Davey Graham's (and then John Renbourn's) Anji'.

I know Howard Leese is or was playing for Bad Company
@@rbagel55 Yes, he's been playing with Paul Rodgers since he left Heart, so the Bad Company gig was a natural. Another outstanding original Heart member!
Plus....you were always the hottest woman in rock. I've had a crush on you since 76ish? I suspect like many other fans. Anyway.....great guitar playing. Ok I'll shut up with the generic crap now.
It’s the tricky Joe Bob thing is the key
awesome thanks so much for share !
She makes it look so easy. This riff is absolutely insane.
Always wanted to learn to play it. It'll take awhile to do it justice
She couldn’t teach me guitar. I’d be preoccupied just staring at her.
I tried to learn it at one point, and got it down for the most part. I really didn't think to use a pick though, I just assumed I had to use finger picking because of how crazy it sounded. I definitely didn't play it nearly as clean as her.
use a metronome and play it super slow before you dare to bump it up, cuz this one is a really sick riff-best wishes@@MichaelMattison
It's one of those things that with an hour of practice isn't that hard, but actually writing it in the first place is just mind boggling
One of the best guitar intros for any song ever.
Agreed 👍
😂
Agreed, then comes in with that killer riff. Just a great song all around.
If not the best.
Yes did the intro to Roundabout in the same kind of fashion.
Her modesty is off the charts. She never throws around a bunch of terms without explaining them and she doesn't talk down to her audience. "Mainly where the dots are" That's just so cool.
“A tricky joe-bob” was so sweet
Trying to reach a young and upcoming rock goddess
Modest and supportive. ua-cam.com/users/shorts-s7vkZ97wRg?feature=share
Nancy has been teaching guitar since she was a pre-teen. Teaching other kids and adults. Professionally.
That's probably because she doesn't know the technical terms. It's kind of embarrassing to other musicians.
OMG, I could watch this woman play guitar all day, every day, and never be bored. One of the most disgustingly underrated guitarists of all time
Not underrated, you fool.
That's makes no sense.
the vid has 2.1 million views so idk about underrated lol. A legend for sure.
@@jquikshot right. So many people use that word, and have no clue, that it’s completely the wrong word.
They MAY mean “not as popular as I feel they should be” ,but they are almost NEVER underrated.
Then if you asked them who’s rating we are talking about, they have no clue!
Under-rated has a meaning. She is considered by pretty much everyone in the world a guitar legend. Not sure what you want.
@@chrisf5828 Well who is mentioned when people list greatest guitatists? The ususal ones are: Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, Slash, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix.
Nobody mentions her.
100% talent, 0% EGO. It's what made these sisters so great fronting Heart.
Her sister got all the ego.
@@oneaburns It didn't hurt that they were both gorgeous as well as talented. I'll take the ugly one... [we used to quip in '76]...
Still one of the most underrated bands, and duos, ever.
Wow... a guitar lesson from Nancy Wilson. I can die happy now.
Nancy friggin rocks. Such a great musician.
Nancy, my guitar teacher
Nancy Wilson is the most underrated guitarists in rock and roll. Beautiful, too.
Those harmonics and the fact that she’s hybrid picking too very impressive. Also the fact that she simply doesn’t mess anything up in this video.
So a little bit of info on Rick musicians. They mess up, they just don't let you see it. There was some blues guy I think who said something about that.
This video illustrates exactly why nobody can ever dismiss Heart as just a simple "chick" band. Both Ann and Nancy are the fucking real deal. So musical. So creative. Very much pioneers for women's rock music. Props.....
Oh heck no. The first time I heard 'Magic Man' I was blown away, and had a hard on at the same time! I did not know they had a girl guitarist. Then when I found out Nancy played guitar I thought she played all the guitar, and I thought she was one of the best out there.
Saw them play numerous times around town when I was a kid.
They used to jam in a house by my elementary school.
Liked the music then
Always loved her sisters voice
Two nice girls and the rest are all men.
Biff Malibu lol I will be honest, back in the 70s and early 80s when I would only hear them on the radio I could take them or leave them . Then they went through the big hair glamour faze and lost me for years. Then in the later 90s till present I started seeing videos of them that were really well made not MTV videos but videos of them playing and I saw them in concert and my opinion of them has completely changed! Yes, they are the real deal for sure and extremely talented. The best female band ever I would say.
Indeed! They put "good" musicians to frikin shame!
She's a master. Plays effortlessly with endless variation. Amazing.
So easygoing & modest. She sounds like a friend teaching you a guitar part around a campfire. You’d never guess she’s one of the badassest guitarists in rock history.
The entire Dreamboat Annie album is an experience. One of my favorite records from the ‘70s
Absolutely, me too!
First time I have ever seen a rock and roll legend give a guitar tutorial. She's so sweet and humble. I first heard Heart on the radio in the 1970s when I was a young teenager. I am now 62, and anytime I turn on Classic Rock radio I hear a song by Heart. Speaks volumes about their staying power. Rock legends. Well done.
check out some of the tutorials by Mark Knopfler. Same "make something difficult look easy" vibe.
Brian May also did some some guitar lessons of his famous riffs in Queen. Check them out
When they say underrated? Here is the queen ❤
Possibly the best intro to a song ever.
This intro is the reason I am currently learning acoustic guitar.
I figure after 10,000 hours or so of practice and I might be able to struggle my way through it.
@@someguy5035 Nancy rarely does a song intro the same way twice.
@@sergeantmasson3669 Has the same general theme though. You definitely know it when you hear it.
Hey, another youtube comment with zero meaning.
If every guitarist learned how to play Crazy On You then the world would be a better place.
Nancy is an incredible talent. Aside from that, both her and Ann made a phenomenal team. I feel honored having had the opportunity to not only work with Heart but to also meet every original band member. It's been well over 40 years. ... Damn how time flies. If only to be able to go back to those glory days. Keep rockin Nancy.
Very cool!
".... A little Jim Bob thing there...."
When you're self taught and you don't know what the hell these music majors call these things. Relatable.
Hahahah
Hell yes!!!!!!
Indeed. I was doing pinch harmonics, but called it a squeal when I was a kid playing them.
Yet more successful than all those music nerds. Just goes to show you.
The best musician/songwriters are self taught.
I was there, running camera , (the right hand close-up). She really is very sweet.
Well how very cool!
more than sweet, this woman rocks!
@@roythompson2632 Indeed!
It'd be great if somebody had (and posted) both hands close up for the entire duration. Hint hint :)
@@Mr911Medic no please just nO- i'm dying XD
That intro is one of the greatest pieces of music ever written. She is so f’n awesome.
Incredible guitarist - and her speaking voice is just as smooth as her singing
“And a hammer on They call it AHAH” 😂😂 what a gem!
She can probably make any guitar instrumental look easy when it is difficult. I always enjoy when Nancy gets to show off that she can sing too.
Wow, just wow! incredible music, incredible playing, and an incredibly humble soul. I love her non technical, but dead accurate names for some of what she's doing with her left hand. "Tricky little Joe Bob." Yup, that's exactly what that is, from now and forever forward. I could not be more impressed.
This is seriously one of the best comments on this video ever 👍
you forgot her voice- second only to stevie nicks
You have absolutely no clue how many times I've had to rewind this video.
Dunno bout you but I still can’t play it
This was just half speed and it’s still overwhelming 😂 Nancy is a legend!
Seriously. I just became 2 percent better merely watching this.
Nancy is talented, beautiful, and a member of a legendary rock band, yet somehow never lost that sincere girl-next-door charm.
I just can’t imagine being more enamored by a woman for this many years.
Truth. So absolutely amazing, this is easily one of the top 20 albums of all time, maybe top 10. And a debut album? Just. Wow.
You are going to have to fight me, I have had a major crush on her my whole life. How about how great she looked in that video "Never". You and I are going to have to fight because I love her more than you!
All kidding aside, she is the most attractive woman I have ever seen, so I get first dibs, fair? I'm 55 and have probably had this crush longer than you. After she dumps me I will shake hands with you and wish you the best.
She is a lovely Woman. What do you think our chances are?
@@paulh7589 Take a break from UA-cam for a little bit Paul
@@Therankinlife Perhaps I should!! Haha!
Bubble *would* be in love with Nancy Wilson lol
You kids today are so lucky. I had to teach this to myself by playing the LP over and over and over and over figuring out every little detail. Now y'all can just go on youtube and have Nancy Wilson explain it to you!😂
Agreed, but then again, this video wasn’t recorded two years ago. Posted to UA-cam recently, but at 4:3 format puts it at least pre-2004.
I’m wondering where this gem of a lesson has been hidden all this time.
Did u walk up hill thru 10 ft of snow both ways to school everyday too?
She's very humble. And that speaks volumes about her great dimension as an artist.
The world is a much better place knowing beautiful Nancy is playing somewhere.
When I first heard this song played on the radio, I was back in high school in the late 1970's, it gave me goosebumps. It still gives me goosebumps in 2023.
Ditto on all that 😄
Yep
Nancy Wilson, the most underrated, underappreciated guitarist in the world.
except Joni Mitchell
They are not underrated. Classic riff master this one.
She's great. Watching her play that song live is pure joy.
My God, I could sit & watch Nancy do this all day long, & never get tired of it…ever.
She is a super genius. No joke whatsoever.
This is the very first time I've actually heard her speaking voice!! Listening to the band since Dreamboat Annie was produced!
What a talented and kind woman. She's one of my favorite guitarists! Bravo, Nancy Wilson!
I think the intro to Crazy on you is the greatest piece of Rock acoustic guitar ever recorded. I just love it!!
id have to agree with you - along with the rest of the song
@@70sChangedtheWorld
Yes, I agree! The whole song is just awesome!. The lyrics, the way it is arranged, the guitar tones, the singing, all amazing!!
She is absolutely stunningly, insanely beautiful, her vibe is super chill, and damn can she beat the shit outta that thing. She owns it.
How the hell does someone ever write something like that? Spectacular
Never realized she was that good. Respect.
I hear that intro and I instinctively reach for the volume... Great song
She is absolutely amazing.
Man did I love this woman.....Beautiful AND plays the guitar. 70's Teen boys' dream....
a true goddess of guitar, seems like it was an extension of her. Just natural. 💎
“Mostly where the dots are”. Hysterical. Still love that recording.
She explains the "mechanics" of how it is played🤔 ... but what she doesn't explain is - Why does it always send icy chills and shivers up and down your spine and give you goose bumps!!!?🙌❤❤❤🙌
I forgot how Nancy Wilson could play guitar. Beautiful and Iconic.
I play a little acoustic but this is fantastic. Still gives me chills.
A Master’s Touch! And such a great, memorable, TIMELESS composition by the great guitarist, Nancy Wilson!
I love it when musicians give lessons, it really teaches you how the song is actually played
You don't see too many great guitar players with small hands. She's a treasure.
Hammer on thing they call it - Tricky Joe Bob - Mostly where the dots are. I love it. No ego, beautiful, and classy. Self taught and one of the highest rated guitarist out there.
Unbelievably talented, articulate, creative, and jaw-droppingly beautiful.
Honest and bare bones Rock is what the Wilson's brought to the table and what a feast it was and still is! None more pertinent or original and truly from the Heart!
No one can play it like her. I’ve watched so many covers and they’re off here and there. She’s the only one that can play it perfectly!
missymotors perfection is for mentally ill people. Music is an expression of lighting in a bottle! It should never be the same as anybody elses way of playing any song. It should always be similar but with your own style added to it. Anybody that plays it exact isn't an artist they are a machine and machines have no souls.
Kinda easy when you are the one who wrote the fucking thing, dumbass.
I like to hear songs like its played on the studio album. Nancy played it like it was 1976.
It’s the same with every guitarist. No player EVER plays anything exactly like another player, it’s impossible.
How great is this having Nancy Wilson teaching us!
Genius here is so unasuming... Take an A minor cord and play with it and do hammer and pull-offy things... Pure creative genus and fun... Love it!!!
Definitely a very tasty guitar playing style! Love it! Nancy is definitely one of the great artists of our time!❤❤❤
Omg I've been struggling learning this intro and here we have the godess herself teaching it, this is so perfect ty ty !
Be sure to check out my pinned comment for a link to the Shut Up And Play channel--he gives an accurate and complete tutorial, Nancy really only shows part of it.
Have fun! : )

My God she's beautiful -- AND crazy talented. What a band.
Say you don't suppose Christina Applegate is her niece or something? And yes I agree with so many re: the guitar chops.
She's so good! That intro takes me into a whole other universe inside my own mind. It's crazy...
Not only a huge talent but humble and really, really beautiful too. She's the real deal.
After all these years….I’ve still got a crush on her. She’s as pretty as ever!❤️
The most talented people in the world have no need for instructions. It *flows through them* naturally.
She's one of my all-time favorite guitarists.
Yep, me too since they first came out! I was 14 at the time and she inspired me to learn guitar a couple years later!
@@Katerina9256 I did my best to learn this riff when I was in my early stages of playing guitar. I was unsuccessful. But instead of being frustrated in my lack of skill, I was blown away in how masterful she was in creating such a piece.
I still can't play this riff even after 16 years of playing the guitar. But I still feel the same way. She's a legend.
She is one bad ass guitar player. Love her energy on stage.
She makes it look so easy that it’s hard for her to explain lol. Incredible
Oh yeah sure Nancy, it does make it “really easy”. Ha! I know it’s been said already but….she’s amazingly talented, beautiful, and just seems so kind and down to earth.
Ann and Nancy had what John and Paul had... each incredible musical talents but together they drove each other to stratospheric heights... plus being cool, beautiful and humble people. I love watching her play guitar and kick her leg out ... she is amazing ... and this is one of the greatest rock song intros of all time...
A gift from God - Thankyou Nancy
Absolutely badass. Yes folks, she CAN play guitar like that
I don't get it, do people doubt she can play guitar just because she's a woman?
@@kinggimped you need to remember the time they broke, very sexist time
@@Matt561 I was too young to remember, honestly. I grew up in the 80s/90s and knew some Heart songs from my parents. I never heard anyone intimate that they weren't talented musicians just because of their gender. That's an utterly stupid way to think, so I guess we should all be glad that things have changed so much since then. Rather than further the "yes they CAN play guitar like that", as if the default assumption would be otherwise.
I have honestly had a crush on her since the 70's, and she has gotten better with age. I remember seeing Heart in 76, I was 13 and it was love at first sight for sure. Her and Ann are the epitome of rockers, man or woman.
I got to see them at 16 in Feb '79 Dog and Butterfly tour. So happy to have been lucky enough to catch that original lineup, nothing else ever came close imo.
Most of my fondest childhood memories include music.
My parents primarily listened to traditional country music - thanks mom & dad!
My older sisters introduced me to rock 'n roll - including Heart. Thank you!
The 70's have proven to be very much a high water mark for rock, and Heart was right there. Thanks to Heart for the great memories!
Nancy's virtuosity is the most underrated in rock. She's just humble but on a studio quality Lossless rendition she will drive the band with just an acoustic guitar.
A total babe and what a unique sound and style she has...along with a sister who is clearly the best female vocalist in rock history!
1000 per cent
Best in rock history? Lol
Words can't describe how talented the Wilson sisters are ,love their music so much ,Thank you God Bless.
Absolutely
Words do pretty good..
One of the best guitar players in the world.
Heart is one of the most distinctive rock bands ever. They fuse emotion, beauty and power with the best of them.
She's been invading my dreams for almost 40 years. Love ya Nancy
I salute you Nancy. You are a legend.
Crushing on Nancy since the 70's...
I've been in love with Nancy Wilson since the 70s.
All respect to Nancy for her perfection in guitar playng. I know it takes alot of practice and patience to achieve your dreams. She is an inspiration to me and many others.
The people, who clicked the 276 dislikes, must be going to a Justin Bieber concert tonight. This lady is a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, a top-tier talent and a Fox.
Justin beaver ha ha ha. Thanks Ken that just had me rolling on the floor laughing my ass off!
Woah cringe

Perfect 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The thumb is a poor and inaccurate tool and those downer fokes don't mean NUTHIN'.
You can always tell when she changes the pick she’s going from Silver Wheels to Crazy On You. I love this deep dive.
What I love about the Wilson sisters and their music is that, they don't do easy material. Their timing, their tempos, chord changes, vocal work!
Everything about them speaks extreme talent! Plus they are nice people.
To me, they are the greatest female rock stars in the busjness!
Nobody sings like Ann and Nancy is a hell of an act to follow on guitar !!
Arguably one of the best guitarists ever.
Amazing guitarist and a sister with one of the most powerful voices in rock. Legendary!
It’s 2023 and her music still holds up completely - bravo Nancy your a definite icon of guitar - and just such a cool bad ass .
I´ve got a crush on Nancy... she is amazing and so beautiful. Amazing guitarist, amazing vocalist, amazing musician.
Thank you Nancy for taking the time to show us how to play your songs. A wonderful, wonderful gift to so many beginner guitarists. I hope you realize it is greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, I no longer play my guitar. I had to give it up because my fingers weren’t suited for it, so I turned to the piano and am doing quite well. I can only hope one day Rick Davies from Supertramp can show me how to play some of his songs. I would be in absolute heaven for a tutorial from him like the one you have given here. Your fans are so lucky to have you. This tutorial keeps your music alive for generations.
What a fantastic woman, for alot of reasons; but the idea of being to teach how to do one of the most recognized guitar riffs in history, not just being able to play it is incredibly generous!!
Priceless. Love it when she explained about the A string wanting to sound like it hits every time when it doesn't. I got chills.
Nancy Wilson... so amazing. I dont play guitar and have no idea what shes saying but I love the way she says it. I love the way she plays it even more 🤩😍🤩😍
Wow, love how she is able keep tempo and timing no matter what. Slow down, go faster.. Always right in it. Great soft touch too
When will I ever stop to smile when I see or hear Nancy Wilson?
Even though she tried to explain it, it's too unworldly and amazing to fully be learned by anyone else
Nancy is so beautiful and i love the way she explains what she’s doing. Pull offs and when it’s your riffs it’s no way to explain, because you are so involved in making it the right sound
