exactly. I completely agree. I still have Alistair kill him every time. what happened to his dog was extremely sad and I can understand why he hates the orlisans (totally misspelled that) but it doesn't excuse him for killing the king and Duncan. I mean when they ate planning the battle he should have just told the king that they should withdraw. not by lying and agreeing to back them up only for him to stab them in the back. I can understand the strategic retreat but then he goes on by trying to have your character and Alistair killed, poisoning arl eamon, causing turmoil and death in the mage circle, and the slave trading of the elves. there is no forgiveness of that.
That's because you don't understand his situation. Have you ever had to decide who lives or dies? Put your wife and daughter against the wall as someone tells you tho choose or lives or dies. If you fail to decide then both will. Loghain had to decide between the lives of his men and that of the kings. Loghain knows what he did. He makes no excues. Nor does he avoid responsability. He gives you more respect then a "nice" person hiding behind fake smiles and happy masks as the lie to your face.
@@taramaforhaikido7272 Deep down Loghain decided the moment Cailan even thought about accepting aid from Orlesians at Ostagar that he was going to betray him. He came up with the strategy for the battle which put him in the perfect position to leave everyone for dead while keeping most of his own forces intact. He then immediately goes to blame anything or anybody he can for what happened Ostagar besides himself. Do you not remember him blaming the whole thing on the Grey Wardens or him making excuses for everything he does saying "He is the only one who can save his country". While he proceeds to destroy his own precocious country from the inside. Even If any of his plans worked the country would have been done for as there was no way he would have gotten the other races on his side. He was willing to set his whole country ablaze to fight the ghosts of his past. In Origins he isn't some tragic hero who was forced to make tough decisions he thought were right. HandsomeRanger One does not exclude the other, not in that world. Alistair is the sweetest guy ever, and how many people does he kill on a daily basis.
I love these, they just add so much depth to each of the characters. And Steve Valentine's performance for Alistair has made me fall in love with his character. It's going to be hard to do another play through and not romance him.
He is brilliant! Whoever casted him for Alistair's voice deserves a special place in heaven. All of them really. They're all amazing voice actors... but Alistair's... 😍💞
@@turkeysub24 Alistair is 20 at the start of the game and turned 21 or was approaching his 21st birthday by the end. It's harder with Morrigan, because there is no definite date of birth for her but she'd be in her mid to late twenties.
Clearly the dog is far and away the most charismatic party member. By the end of his banter with all the other characters they all end up doing stuff for him like giving him treats or playing fetch.
Steve Blum is great. He's pretty prolific- Anub'arak in Warcraft 3, Cyrus, Martellus, and Eliphas in Dawn of War 2, Grunt in Mass Effect 2 (where he just sounds like a sober Oghren), and Abathur in Starcraft 2.
I think it was against zevran making her blush or get her to break her facade. Which he does, because he is the best at compliments. Just listen to the way he fawns over Wynn!

justin mallory Not actually true, she wasn't there for the search for Maric, she died saving Evangeline, the love of her son Rhys,at the end of Dragon Age: Asunder
I love how Oghren just doesn't give a fuck, says what comes to mind, not bothering with people's judgment. And still has a depth. Also has great observations, hidden under the alcohol, stench and lechery.
Best characters in a videogame ever! yes I know, Shepard and his crew in Mass Effect are magnificient but this characters, man! they feel more like a dysfunctional family than warriors/mages and that's why I still play this wonderful game to date.
I feel she’s very underrated as a companion. I felt very touched when she said she wanted to spend the rest of her days to help guide The Warden on a good path. I see her as a mother figure for my character.
+Kyle Vanderhoof Kadaan is used to refer to someone who you care for. It can mean 'Friend', 'love', 'good friend'. The Qunari language is very strange like that. Like their word for outsider/someone not in the Qun, 'Bas' which also means 'nothing' as in 'there's nothing here'.
+Paola Tutic Sadly, there isn't a Qunari Language Translator app, although that would be awesome. If you search for Qunlat on the Dragon Age Wiki, you do get a list of known words and phrases, I'm certain there's an Elven Language page too, but I haven't looked at it. According to the Wiki, the official meaning of Kadaan is literally, "Where the heart lies;" friend. An all-purpose word for a "person one cares about," including colleagues, friends and loved ones. Also means "the center of the chest."
The last banter really got me, it's so easy to hate Loghain for the bastard he is and so easy to forget he's still a human being. Sharing the story of his mabari with my mabari is really touching, I still sent him to kill the archdemon and die for his crimes in the process :P but he is still a person like any other...
@@SaviorJooshes they were working on it actually but the idea got scrapped. There's even cut dialogue between them from Ostagar dlc, you can find it on UA-cam
KamiKaze43v3r loghain is an incredibly written character, his hatred for Orlais, his frustration with an idiot as a leader and so on. Problem I have with him, is that he is ruthless and tried to fight the blight himself without knowing how to and almost destroyed the GreyWardens completely in Ferelden. Even if he manged to defeat the blight, Ferelden would have been weaker off due to his short-sighted actions.
TheRedAzuki It goes to show that most antagonists are not really evil at heart. Everyone believes they are doing what is best and that they are justified in whatever actions they make. Being "evil" is actually an extremely rare trait and it makes the story seem more real when the antagonist isn't portrayed that way.

Even though the game is several years old I still play it religiously in between other games. Glad I am able to listen to these videos at work to keep me entertained. Thanks for putting together and posting!
By far the best gaming franchise I've ever played before aside from KOTOR. The story and characters are just so in depth. You start out in your average life and by bizarre circumstances you are left virtually alone to build an army to fight the darkspawn, WHILE bringing Loghain to justice. It gives you feel that you really are a hero. And the characters, you actually get to feel like you know them personally. Their backgrounds and personalities are so well thought out and you become attached to them. I'll admit, at the ending, during the coronation, you're talking to everyone after the blight, about their plans for the future, it saddened me that it was over. I didn't want to say goodbye, especially to my warden. Then you finally talk to the guard to go out and meet the adoring crowd, and it ends. Well done Bioware, thank you for the ride, looking forward to DAI!
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, a classic D&d style RPG released in 2003, probably Bioware's best game and one of the best games of all time, worthy of standing in the hall of fame of Videogames
"Bring Loghain to justice?" It's not about blame. It's about responsability. I recruit him. He knows what he did and makes no excuses for it. Hates himself fo not doing better. Alister tends to not know better. That's more dangious then any intended harmful act. He's got better odds of learning being king. I actually despise how Loghain has to be killed unless you do extra steps. That's just stooping to the level of making targets easily. Doesn't matter what the intentions are. What matters is that the dead don't learn. Even the darkspawn can talk at times. Which is communication. Which is the only way the wars may eventually end. Loghain is like one darkspawn. Others will take their place. If that one darkspawn suddenly became a beacon though then others will follow. Loghain will do this. Alister meanwhile is doubting himself, not sure what to do, hesitates before he acts... know what the jokes mean. And he tends to change the topic. Loghain is much more to the point. It's easier to know where you stand with him. If takes his men and turns around he'll say "Those were my men". If he makes a point about putting two people you care about against a wall and deciding who lives and dies then that's a valid point. no argument of "duty" will do it. That's not how you get through to people properly. One of the conversations basically went "You're a coward". Which is actually more effective. Loghain has to consider his own inability at that point. That's also when he went "Do you know what it's like to decide who lives and dies? Those were my men damn it." I've been in such situations. If you dare to judge that then you better have been in that situation. Otherwise you will never understand.
I think he was serious but also suspected she might not want to go through with it. If she had then she's worthy enough to do it in his eyes. I think Sten's race might be a logical "surpess your emotions" until mating type. I swear they got the idea from vilcans in star trek.
On the subject of Morrigan and her dress in Inquisition actually, it is so weird that she wears the exact same dress Leliana described in Origins, creepy, almost like she could predict the future, 10 years in the future, as a matter of fact, weird.
Gabriel Edward John D'Argo Sun-Smith Also consider how she and Morrigan flip-flopped; Morrigan is more caring while Leliana has become more cold and ruthless.
+Gabriel Edward John D'Argo Sun-Smith On the subject of Leliana predicting the future, I think it more likely that Morrigan ordered the dress that way BECAUSE of the conversation she had with Leliana all those years prior. She probably didn't know much about fancy Orlesian dresses and went with the only thing she could think of to avoid looking the fool in front of others.
God that fucking part with Loghain and "Dog." That's the part that made me forgive him, can't hate a man who has that much love in his heart for a dog.

@@kji794 Well, that or one time when Leliana was in Orlais she ran into Morrigan, realized she was completely not prepared to be part of the Orlesian court (though the Inquisition outfits probably came damn close much to Leliana's annoyance at Josie dropping the ball so hard on those...), and took Morrigan shopping :D

Lol he also says to Wynne "pretend you're a woman" when he wants to ask about the warden
Omg....I'm dying of laughter with every banter involving Zevran.
Right?! His VA is absolutely HILARIOUS oh god hahahaha
I always took Alistair and Morrigan everywhere because of their bickering. Later Zevran, too. I cried with laughter when he gave poor Alistair sex tips xD
“Most golems are slaves to whoever holds their control rod.”
“Funny, it works the same way for us as well.”

I farking adore Alistair and Wynne's Banters, they always leave me smiling with a warm fuzzy feeling, I especaily Love when Wynne Gives Alistair "The Talk", I got to hear it in one of my Playthroughs, It was in the Hall of Hero's in Orzammar, I must say the Echo effect makes it much funnier for some reason, probably because it sounds really loud. I had to pause cus I was laughing so hard and couldn't breathe.
i love the conversation about Templer:
Wynne: And regardless, you seem like a decent enough young man. If you decide to slaughter me out of hand, I'm sure you would at least inform me first, no?
Alistair: Oh, sure... count on it.
I just watched a playthrough the other day where Alistair sId something slightly flirty at Wynn and she told him he'd better watch out or he'd end up in her bed. I didn't hear it in all this.
I want Zevran and Dorian to meet. Or Zevran and Iron Bull.
+MCSQUARED i think zevran and the iron bull would be very fond of eachother lmao
if Zevran brings Isabela when he meets Bull, I want to watch the ensuing orgy. And by "watch" I mean "take part".

i love how in all of the Dragon Age games all the characters essentially hate each other and only stand each others presence, because the have to because the follow the protagonist.
but you see a lot of character growth in just the banter.
They are all siblings and the grey warden is their tried parent
I never knew Leliana and Morrigan argued like that over him? How did I miss this!? Every moment was gold!
Dude your right I didn't know that what the fuck!
It is found in the mod Morrigan restauration pack in the dragon age nexus. That mod is great, there are a few other things new when you install it, but I don't want to spoil here :)
Actaully, I went back and played it on the 360, and discovered they do talk about it after all so you don't need the mod luckily.
James Dean Never knew that...but I am mostly playing females so they don´t have a catfight about my wardens :D
Heard it just after installing the mod and the equal love file from that mod ;)
i only comes in place when the player decides to be a dick and try to date both
lol Zevran to Loghain: "I wanted to inform you that i failed my mission" xDDD
I love how they never directly talk about sex but use other words and stuff xD

I still despise Loghain but you can really tell he has a heart when he talks about his dog and such. It's kind of sweet.
He is a sad bitter man driven almost mad by his own past and hides behind lies and excuses whenever he is called out about it.

+Paola Tutic but he said kadaan?!?!
***** Which is odd, because kadaan means "my heart."
They all feel equal to me.
"Oh, Golem-vomit! This I have to see!"
Oh maker xD
I have a new understanding of loghain thank you
reading the first novel for dragon age gives you a whole new perspective of him too!
Stevean2 Being a fangirl/boy is wrong? Or specifically liking Logain based on his appearance is?
Are you speaking of the dog 'banther'? Those tore me apart. I hope Anora gets one of Dog's offsprings one day. Loghain would have approved, I bet.

MrKingJitsu They're no longer the same bioware that made this game. they've turned into shit
The Drews KOTOR? What does that stand for?
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, a classic D&d style RPG released in 2003, probably Bioware's best game and one of the best games of all time, worthy of standing in the hall of fame of Videogames
King Derner Cousland Okay, thanks
Sten was trolling Morrigan. I'm sure.
Idk with what The Iron Bull said about Tamasans popping corks he might have been talking about his preferences. Still hilarious either way
I think he was serious but also suspected she might not want to go through with it. If she had then she's worthy enough to do it in his eyes. I think Sten's race might be a logical "surpess your emotions" until mating type. I swear they got the idea from vilcans in star trek.
Hahaha when Wynne made Zev uhm 'arrive' I lolled so hard :D.
+LukaBlight69 girl got a baby and the other one died, what chu expect!?
+Thegr1n I think for most people she didn't die.
Almost as if Bioware made both of these games...weird.
God that fucking part with Loghain and "Dog." That's the part that made me forgive him, can't hate a man who has that much love in his heart for a dog.
