You can leave the beans whole or lightly mash them with a wooden spoon. Or you can blend it smoothly. Like I always say, make it your own! The thumbnail has a thyme sprig but I did use rosemary for the recipe. Just ran out of rosemary when I shot the photos. The written recipe is always linked in the description (it's the little "arrow" on mobile and a "show more" on desktop). In the description, you will also find my shop and other links with cookware/ingredients and all the other things you guys frequently ask about. Thanks as always for liking my videos!
You mention "1 bag" of beans" what is the actual weight or volume (of the dry beans)?
1 pound of dry beans.
I cook all your recipes on tiktok .. I love u thank you for sharing
I can't stop watching your channel. It's how I decide what I want to eat for the day!
I LOVE making white bean soups, but I cannot find dried cannellini beans anywhere and they're so expensive online. Is there something special about the taste of cannellini vs. other big white beans? Why doesn't your daughter ever taste test?
Mahalo. 👍🥄 this recipe will be great for January when the surf is nice and water is cooler here.
I was rolling on the floor laughing when your son said the soup is okay it's good but it's not the best soup you ever made but all through the end of the video he can't put the spoon down he can't stop eating it that was so funny to me so that tells me the soup was a 10 LOL
I have an unreasonable obsession with cannellini beans, so I love every version of tuscan bean soup
Have you had trouble finding them lately, canned? I have.
@@Joseph1NJ yes as well as other things like certain spices. Supply chain? Idk whats going on anymore.
@@Omnaecyde thx 4 the reply things still aren't back to pre pandemic levels. I don't think they'll ever be, not when markets can so easily be manipulated by so few. A whole other discussion I know.
@@Joseph1NJ Yeah. I want new age variety with 1960’s prices 😂 I don’t pay attention to politics. I just want to keep cooking in my own little world.
There's nothing unreasonable about that. Try a Portuguese white bean and kale soup. Toss some Linguica in (or Chorizo if you can't get Linguica) for extra flavor. Phenomenal soup for the cold winter days.
I made this last night. My value to the household has gone up considerably. A really tasy recipe. I used two heads of garlic and was able to get a fresh garden sprig of rosemary. A freshly baked Italian loaf and this soup on our first chilly night of the fall. Perfect!
"I made this last night. My value to the household has gone up considerably."
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love it!
Delicious idea.. it's pretty cool here in Florida I already made a 5 gallon pot of chili to take to the aid workers and the homeless in the aftermath of the hurricane. Now I'm going to make an additional 5 gallons of your delicious bean soup.
Thank you sir.
I'm in Florida I wish it'd cool off in my area. So hot.....
@@eyeonhim3338 the Heat's back on and the humidity. Help is still needed after the hurricane!
Lmao , cold in Fla.. haha try 1 degree C thats 33.8 F 😅 🤣 😆 , that's the funniest thing I've read. ❣️❣️❣️
Best wishes through your stormy season. I just had to giggle. Much 🙏 respect. I'll probably make this now .. looks 👍 great
My mother always mashed the beans with a potato masher and I do that, too. The texture is wonderful; like you said, "rustic"❣️
Definitely a winner in my book. And this is another example of a tasty meal that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, something we're all concerned about these days. And don't forget to roast extra garlic to spread on some nice crusty bread to go with the soup!
I’m an American living in Florence, Italy. I made this soup for my Italian friends (who are very picky) and they LOVED it…so much that I’ve made it several more times, and their eyes light up every time I bring it. Thank you! PS I love it too.
That's an Amazing testimony
A really good substitute for pancetta (if you're a vegetarian) is roasted cauliflower. First cut out the stem in the middle and cut it into quarters. Drizzle the core and top of the floret with good olive oil and dust with a mix of coriander, granulated garlic, onion powder, salt, pepper and bay leaf. Roast in the oven, uncovered with the garlic clove at the same temp until the top is a dark golden brown, and then chop into cubes. Also you can do the same thing with your vegetables and then boil to make a great vegetable stock.
Katherine, thank you!
Thank you Katherine. I live in a food desert so no access to pancetta so nice to have a substitute option
@@jillv4006 Thanks for letting me know, very glad I could help☺
This is more affordable during this terrible economic times as well.
Good idea! I also like adding smoked Spanish paprika for a smoky flavor instead of meat.
I'm really enjoying the family input at the end. Its fun to see you all talk about the dish and laugh together. Nobody has enough family time, and you've encorporated it into your job so we all can enjoy. Basically, you're family is lovely and thank you for sharing. Another great soup to add to my recipe box. Everyone take a bow. 👏😊
Agree with this. So sweet
I made this with pinto beans, canned minced garlic, Italian sausage, and dried rosemary. It still came out amazing. I'm on my second bowl.
That’s sounds yummy, better with the Italian sausage!
I am on a Sip and Feast marathon today rewatching what I have already seen and drooling! I was released from the hospital
yesterday after five days of no eating and now I AM HUNGRY! One thing missing, no chef in my kitchen but me and I am not
able to shop or stand long enough to prep and cook! You, your food and your family are the BEST! Thanks for your time and effort you take to make everything DIVINE. I LOVE EVERYTHING YOU MAKE❤️
Absolutely love how James does not stop eating once he begins 😂 This soup looks like the perfect meal with cold weather on the way. Thank you to the Taste Tester and the Mother of the Taste Tester and thank you for sharing your recipes with us 😊
Great cooks always taste while cooking
My husband and mother both state that this is the best bean soup I have ever made. I love the way your videos are presented and the family scoring at the end is just great. i am adding this to my Sunday soup list. It's a winner.
You explain things so well, like “heat 4 out of 10”. This looks easy & delicious. Thank you!
I love that the family opinions are so brutally honest! Makes me trust your recipes more because you're not putting pressure on them to say everything is a 10.
I always appreciate you adding suggestions for customizing your recipes. I’m by no means a professional chef, just trying to cook something nice for my family. You always mention substitutions for higher-end ingredients, or as in this video mashing the beans for those of us without immersion blenders…I really appreciate that! This soup looks perfect for cooler weather. Can’t wait to try it!
I have a feeling this is one of those soups that tastes even better the next day. Thanks for the recipe
Hi Jim, I have to tell you about this recipe. I made it yesterday using the same ingredients you used all the way down to the fresh herbs and roasting the garlic. This is the BEST soup I have ever made and it's thanks to you. Outstanding flavor and what a difference fresh herbs make. I wasn't really sold on the difference, always preferring dried. But tasting this soup, I was totally blown away. Great job, and thank you so much for sharing. I know you encourage us to make it the way we like it, but when making something for the first time I like to follow the recipe closely, then change up anything the next time I make it. This one will remain unchanged!!! Its perfect. 😊
Your family is so lucky to have you cooking all this fabulous food every day, and the un-edited commentary from them makes this channel the best thing ever. Keep up the great work. I’m definitely making this one.
Me too with two bulbs of roasted garlic
I made this soup today with a slight variation and it’s absolutely delicious. I followed the directions for the most part, but since I wanted a thicker soup, I added a little pastina, and for added brightness also added spinach at the end. I wish we could post photos here, because it’s truly scrumptious.
Your family is so luck to have you in the kitchen! You get a 10!
I am British in the UK, I made this soup three days ago OMG I loved it !! My Son visited today and I send him home with a large portion of it as he loves fresh tasty food, I will definitely make again !! I had to use smoked bacon though as I couldn't get any pancetta but it was still yummy. Thanks 👯👯👯
I can’t wait for winter ever year for 3 reasons, thunderstorms to marvel at, snowboarding, and making hot amazing soups. Literally nothing better than a hot soup after working or being outside in the cold and rain after a long day when your cold and wet.
I made your recipe exactly as you cooked it here and I gave a bowl to my wife with some crusty bread. She took two bites and gave me the goo goo eyes! Great recipe, thanks for sharing! Gotta go, I think I hear mama calling!
I love the way you describe things. "4 out of 10" for cooking heat. Finally someone to puts things in terms I can understand. Thank you for all you do. I look forward to making many of your creations.
I used vegetable stock, no meat and it was delicious! I added a mix of spinach/kale chopped up to add some green to the mix. Just perfect!
Another great recipe. I like the way you encourage cooks to make changes to suit their taste.
Hi James, I am so glad you have the slider to make this for one or two people on the website. I am single, and don't want to eat bean soup for 5 days in a row. I don't mind it for three dinners in a row and one lunch, but then it starts to get a little off. Using the slider helps me halve the ingredients to make it more manageable. I really appreciate that. I love bean soup, any soup almost, so I am printing off the recipe for my binder and am going to make it next on the list. While I have been cooking for over 55 years I am grateful for new takes on soup and other chicken dishes, which you make so wonderfully. I LOVE your spaghetti with sherry sauce. YUM!! Thank you for your recipes and for these fun and informative videos!! 🥣🫕🍲❣
I made this today. I doubled the recipe and canned 5 quarts. Before I canned it I gave a little sample to my husband and son. They really liked it! Thanks for the recipe!
You make me miss my family that have moved on to the table of great food in the sky. Such great memories with the older guard born in the 1920’s. 🎉🎉🎉
I love your cooking channel, it's not pretentious. Honestly..I love your impartial jours..lol. Family sticks together like a warm soup to ribs.
He sure liked the soup so much
He ate the whole soup ❤.
I will definitely make this soup.
My mouth was watering when he
Was eating it ❤
Looks great! I’d remove the crispy pancetta from the fat, then use it to garnish the soup when serving!
I applaud you for cooking such delicious meals for your family.
The taste testings are always so much fun. God bless your family. Keep up the good work. We appreciate your channel.
I found this channel yesterday and i really dig the chill vibe of your videos. All of them are super informative, especially for beginners like myself. Also the inclusion of your family for the taste testing is so lovely. Congrats on hitting 500k subs!
I love the clarity of your ingredient presentation segment. Too many cooking channels sort of skim over ingredient lists and leave you wondering if you've got everything. You're my go to channel for trying out new recipes!
Congratulations on almost reaching 500k subscribers! Just want to thank you for all the delicious meals I was able to make because of you! You made this Filipino boy love Italian dishes. Onwards to 1 mil!
I feel so lucky to have discovered your channel as autumn's chill has punctuated soup season here in the Mid-Atlantic. I love your presentation and how the family helps with the taste test - so funny how everyone seems to have a different favorite way to eat the soup. I truly enjoy how you display the ingredients beforehand and explain the process during the video. I have subscribed today and look forward to many more informational and inspirational videos to come. Thank you.
We ate a lot of beans growing up, always with good olive oil and always always with bread. Still my favorite. Your recipe including the roasted garlic is a must try! Thank you
This is such a good cooking channel. Great recipes and great personality!
Making now!!!! Can't wait to try!
So much fun to watch this cooking show. Love that the family is participating. James is soooo cute🥰
Another one of your amazing recipes added to my to-do list to try out. Keep em comin!
I love your recipes! Your teaching style is awesome....you make anyone feel they can make anything you present:-)
This was fantastic - the aroma alone was so incredible. The family said it was the best dinner ever!
That looks absolutely delicious and has solved my weekend meal planning as well! Can't wait to cook this myself. 👍
I've enjoyed this many times in Tuscany. From Pisa, Viareggio, Florence etc they have slight differences, some add sausage etc but they all taste super yummy. This has made me realise I am overdue for a trip to Italy. Love it.
I'll surely use this recipe when the weather turns cold. For now, I'm enjoying the sunny warm weather of the Mediterranean sea with slightly lighter recipes🌊🥗
perfect for rainy days! i will definitely try this.
It's very charming how for the taste tests you're all helicopter-y & nervous and then so visibly relieved & thrilled when your dish is a hit. 😂
Can't wait to make this wonderful, hearty soup! Thank you for all the meal inspiration and recipes.
Another recipe I can almost smell through the screen! One of my favourite Italian restaurants has this soup, and it's delicious..so definitley going to have a go at making it now!
Thanks so much for giving us this recipe. This was absolutely delicious!! There wasn't a drop left, everyone loved it. Can't wait to try some of your other recipes now.
I don't watch every one of your videos, but every time I do watch one its always really well done and enjoyable. Thanks for all the great content!
Thank you so much!
With the way James devoured this soup, I thought for sure he'd give it a 10!!
Just made this today…awesome Jim! Love that you get your family involved
This looks so good - I put it on my must make list! Better Than Broth also makes a Roasted Garlic base for those who are vegan OR prefer more of the garlic taste!
SOOOOO close to 500k! Congrats and thank you for all the amazing recipes. Love the videos!
I love how simple this recipe is. It's a keeper! Great video!😋😋
I love bean soups, especially Italian bean soups. They're the best. This recipe is lovely.
I can almost smell it! It looks so good and once I get some cannelloni beans, it goes on the menu for the week. Perfectly timed for the weather we're having in my corner of nowhere, too. My son makes a fabulous peasant loaf that will go great with it.
I made this yesterday and today we ate some and all I can say is OMG!!! This is so good. I added extra garlic because we love it and when you roast it it tames down the harshness of garlic (Not that I mind) because my husband (even though he is Italian) likes less garlic and I too am Italian and love it without restriction. Try this and it will be in your rotation of yummy soups. This is a keeper and I am sharing this and pinning it
OMG I made this tonight. Just a heavenly cold weather meal. Thank you!
thank you, looks really good and you always explain things very well- a great family vibe-that's the icing on the cake
The soup looks delicious, and I’m inspired to make it this weekend. Watching you made me feel like I could do it. Your instructions are always clear and encouraging. Thank you for all the hard work you put it into these videos. And thank you for sharing your family with us: love their ratings!
I made this soup and I was stunned. The most delicious bean soup I have ever tasted hands down.❤️
Looks awesome and I'm sure it tastes awesome too. I'll definitely have to make that this winter or even sooner!
This looks really good, bean soup is a sign of Fall! I love the addition of roasted garlic,( yes, 2 heads for sure),
blending, and a swirl of olive oil on top! Oh, and good bread to sop it up with!!
I’m loving these soup recipes, can’t wait to make this one
Congrats on the 500k! Well deserved, excited to see even more growth and amazing food.
From the chopping, showing and explaining ingredients and size of pit...you are very precise and I love it! I appreciate the 2 small bay leaves to 1 large also because no one else gets into detail that way and I always am thinking that as I add bay leaves to a recipe. Thanks for this!
I made this soup yesterday and felt like a real Italian it came out so good!!! (I’m Irish so this is a big feat for me) I love your videos bc they’re so straightforward and easy to follow. I can’t wait to try more recipes!
Looks fantastic, and you can never have to much garlic. Thanks for sharing your recipe. Stay well and safe.
Your son and wife are so lucky to have you cooking for them.
ah perfect, I love this stews at this time of the year, there never can be enough recipes/versions of it 😍 definitely comes on the to-do-list! thanks a lot :)
Bean soup is so comforting in Fall! Def. going to give this a try.
Yum, I love bean soup! Thanks for another easy and affordable recipe.
I like a bean soup that isn't tomato based all the time.
OhMyGoodness, what is not to love. This soup is absolutely delicious and grand.
New subscriber! Cutest family ❤ I love how real the feedback was …. Your son
almost licked his bowl and that is the best review 😉
Thank you, and welcome to the channel!
I make them exactly the same way. I chop the stems and put in the stuffing. I cook on top of the stove in a big covered pot.
Soup seasonnnnnnnnnnn 🎉 love it! THANKYOU for everything you share here!!!
this was so fun to watch ! and included the family 😇 I MUST make this soon !!!!! Thank you from a very cold 30 degrees....here in 🤠TEXAS......town !.
This is awesome! I would've given anything, while raising my three boys, to have them love something that I cooked, as much as your son loved this soup. He said that it wasn't quite as good as your Italian Wedding Soup, but he sure kept eating it! Lovely family!!
I appreciate the taste testers. Very helpful. And thank you for the recipe. Gonna try this.
Just found your channel and love it! Takes me back to my grandfathers kitchen who came to this country as a young man. Thank you
Yum! I love to add Italian kale or chard to bean soup. I made bean stew two nights ago and used organic cannellini beans. They were awesome and it was quick, super easy. I had some jalapeno smoked Texas kielbasa that I diced as my meat. I have started grating onion and fresh tomato to make a quick, light sauce. Again fast, easy, lighter than a Sunday sauce.
I made this tonight and it was amazing. A hit with our family! Thanks for another great recipe. I had also just watched your lentil soup video, so I added some spinach at the end like in your other video. Yum!
Perfect for the colder months. Thanks
🥰 Wonderful!!! Thank you for another delicious recipe, for this Saturday evening!!!!👏🌞
I may give this one a try on Sunday. It looks amazing. I love your recipes.
The soup looks excellent, very nice to have family input, especially from your son. You can't fake affection like that, congratulations dad.🏆
I absolutely lov❤e how easy and approachable your recipes are! I made this and it was awesome 😎
I’ve been on keto but your videos are my guilty pleasure. You love and you family
I couldn’t find dried cannellini beans in the states so I got two bags while I was in Italy. Can’t wait to try this recipe.
This looks delicious! And I love the interaction with your family, you guys are super cute together!
Looks delicious,
especially the garlic.
The rind was clever.
I can't wait to make it!
Thanks! The critique was so respectful. I will try this soon.
I made the soup today and wow it was delicious. My family loved it too. Thanks for the recipe and a great video. I’ll be watching more for more fantastic ideas. Thank you again.
Love you guys!
Great recipe & an exceptionally great Family!
Nice recipe! Looks so rustic and warm for winter. I’ll be making this for sure. Everything of yours I’ve made has been 🤌🏻. Also, lovely family. Families are the best.
