i'm going through a rough period in my life. i know i will never cook anything you teach us to, but just watching your videos and being part of that makes me feel better... at least you are funny and your voice is relaxing. if my life gets better one day i hope i can cook some of the stuff in your channel. thanks.
KuraiMuin, I know this is a bit late but, as my Rabbi says: "It all works out in the end; and, if it hasn't worked out, it's not the end." It WILL get better, though, while you ate in the middle of it, it seems like forever. God bless.
Over 20 years ago I use to frequent a small Restaurant owned by 2 women in Santa Cruz, CA. They were all about soups and chili and I think it was all vegetarian. Anyway they put out a small paperback book of soups they served in their restaurant and my absolute favorite was the think Tuscan blended White bean soup. It was amazing. Lost the book and have been searching for a similar recipe. I can’t wait to try this. Great video.
I fell in love with this channel quickly not even a month or 2 ago. It reminds me of the cooking shows I watched when i was a teenager, the stuff you might find on tv on a sunday morning. no silly music or fast jump cuts, just a laid back guy with a chill voice and great presentation. I used to LOVE cooking but have kind of fallen out of it in the last 7 yrs. Its a channel like this that has me thinking about getting back into it. I still enjoy a challenging recipe the likes of thomas keller but these are fantastic and great recipes for getting back into the swing of things! Thanks a bunch!
Hey CJ, I'm a college student in a dorm. I really love your videos and make all the ones I can with the limited stuff I have (living on the sixth floor and getting a skillet + supplies down to the second -- not fun). I'm saving a bunch of your recipes for next year when I have a real place with a kitchen. Not sure where I'm going with this, I guess it's just really nice to have a resource like this for a cooking-deprived person like me. When I want to cook but can't it's nice to go on a Food Wishes binge and bookmark a bunch of great recipes -- like this one! Basically, keep being awesome :^)
OMG!!! The husband mistakenly soaked two pounds of beans so I made this one and your Italian sausage and white bean stew. BOTH ARE FABULOUS!! I just saw your clotted cream video and cant wait to try that too. All i can say is WOW, Wonderful!!!
That's a genius idea to use a processor and grind those veggies instead of chopping . Your food always makes me super hungry and inspire to getup and cook:) Thank you
+heghineh It's the way we start our curries here in the subcontinent. Onions, garlic and ginger are ground into a paste and then fried off. Spices are added along with some water to prevent burning and then, after cooking for a few minutes, the meat or vegetables are added.
This is honestly my favorite soup. It's cheap and delicious, especially since I took your advice and planted myself a lil windowsill herb garden. It's even good unblended! Also especially tasty with a bit of diced up ham. 😌❤️
Thank you Chef. Because of you I can literally not say the word 'freshly' without the lilt in my voice, much to the amusement of friends and family. And although it's summer here, I am so in the mood for soup now. Soup is true soul food.
I cant lie I get excited when I see a new video from food wishes under my subs. Also the cool thing is I'm in culinary school and a lot of your recipes and french terms have really given me the upper hand!
Hey chef John, I made this recipe tonight and it is outrageous....I opted to do the diced up veggies instead of the way you did it on the video. I've tried a lot of your recipes with great results, you are my favorite u-tube chef........thank you for the great recipes, and humor.
i love watching food wishes so much because you always make food i would never eat looks incredibly delicious and i usually end up eating something right after!
Delicious and foolproof soup! Croutons are delicious, i once made this without celery for a friend who can’t stand it, and just added more carrot. It was great. Normally I do use celery and also add a French shallot.
How about his timing. Canned white kidney beans are on special this week for 99 cents a can. I am so making this. Have lots of left over baguette to make the crispy bread. Love this recipe.
Hello! I just made this yesterday! I had to make some substitutions.. I used drained chilli beans instead, and cumin & curry instead of the herbs bc I didn't have them. For the veggies, I had carrots, bell pepper, onion, & garlic. It smelt great while cooking! I even blended them in the food processor like you, but with olive oil. Idk why, I just did it that way. Also boiled some potatoes in chicken broth, and added that to the veggies and beans. After it was blended smoothly, I added cilantro, pepper, and ground ginger. It gave it a fresh spicy flavor. Anyway, it was a hit at dinner so thanks for sharing your amazing recipes! Can't wait to cook your garlic parm chicken wings for this weekends Alabama vs. Auburn game! I am literally SO ready!
Dear Chef John.l need to thank you for soo many wonderful recipes,so easy to prepare,so tasty and intercepted with bursts of laughter and giggling due to your rry sense of humour.I have tried and successfully tested many of your recipes on my family. The Tuscan bean soup and croutons though is the most delicious soup we have tasted.Absolutely wonderful.Thank you so much for all your hard work.Believe me it is soo much appreciated. All the best to you.Kind regards.Saki a
I just made this and it is delicious! I used home cooked navy beans, and used the water they cooked in instead of broth, but next time I think I will use broth. The croutons really put it over the top. Thanks for a great recipe!
Made this today ! My 1st time making broth and soup ever and croutons and buying parmeggian and it was legendary ! i discovered perfect peper! Cayenne it only burns throat not whole mouth , and since im not good with spicy stuff this was amazing :DD and very deliciouss and blending was fun ^O^ CHEF THANK YOU for SMASHING RECIPE ! ♥♥♥
You know, sometimes I just listen to his videos just so I can feel good about life in general, not always cooking what he makes, just sometimes. I wish teachers would talk to students the way he talks to us. He's funny and he's not even trying to be.
Wonderful soup, John. The only thing I didn't have fresh was the thyme, but wonderful just the same. Keep em coming the wife and I tell everyone about your pages.
Thank you Chef John for this recipe. I'm making it for the 2nd time today. Bean Soup is an all time fave of mine. However, I'm finding that the finished product from this particular recipe comes out very thin. I'll continue making it as it's much simpler than soaking the beans overnight but my personal opinion is that using 3 cans of beans would work much better yielding a thicker soup. Just this cook's opinion.
I've been blending onions and garlic to use just like this, and I swear it makes the flavors so much more intense! I forget every time though that blending one onion is like chopping a dozen. My eyes!!
I am born in Tuscany about 60 years ago and I continue to live in Tuscany : is the first time I see to make a soup like this and is the first time I know there is, here in Tuscany, a soup made by beans only.
+Seth Hughes I second this idea!!! Chef John, you must narrate a book for us. Or perhaps just a short story or something to start and see how everyone else likes it. =)
He should do a kick starter thing. I would definitely pay for him to narrate the 'Song of Ice and Fire' books. Surely a lot of his subscribers would love to his him narrate their favourite books! Great idea Seth
+MrStensnask I think you're probably in a minority. He edits his voice to sound more pleasing to his viewers, which is probably why his channel does so well!! Not that there's anything wrong with his unedited voice I the earlier videos.....
we make a big 32 lite bucket of a celery onion carrot and garlic puree as the base for our soups at my workplace (as well as for our marinara and meat sauce)
Uh oh, Chef. We still have another month until winter begins! Hang in there! PS: Those croutons looked so good I had to get up at 1:30 am & make a piece of toast to satisfy that craving.
Bravo, Chef Giovanni! Is it true that your personal vehicle is a Porsche Cayenne?? 😉 Looks very tasty. Thanks. I love your home made oven baked crouton recipe. Trouble is I eat them like chips! Ciao.
Hey Chef John, can you tell me where you purchased those soup bowls?... And also I've noticed in some of the other videos where your baking sheets always look brand new. How do you clean them? Thank you so much for sharing your recipes!! :😬
Hi Chef John, huge fan here. Have you ever considered making another channel where you show your face some more and maybe talk about cooking in general and yourself some more. The masses would love it. Also, quick food wish: Cuban breaded steak/bistec empanizado.
Maybe.. But please make it another channel. The reason I love these videos is that they cut to the chase. No 'look at me', no BS, just cooking. And fun. A lot of other people's recipe videos have my finger hovering over the fast forward button. Never these ones. They are beautifully made little films, and have been, all the way from the start. That's a real talent, IMO.
Check out the recipe: www.allrecipes.com/Recipe/245617/Chef-Johns-Tuscan-Bean-Soup/
You could put the mirepoix in a food processor with olive oil and process into a paste to avoid the water and sauté instead.

If you're still laughing, then it's not a matter of "if," your life gets better, but when. Good luck!
HUGS!

Chef John... I love you so much.
Sincerely, a straight single man.
I was literally JUST browsing UA-cam saying "I wish Chef had a new video!" not even 2 minutes ago.
YESSSS!!!!!!!! I have a reason to be alive now. ;-)
+Michael Duvic Exactly what i was doing too!
Whenever I notice his last video was posted 3 days ago I go on high alert the whole fourth day... Just waiting...
+Michael Duvic I too hold my breath between his videos... This is therapy for me. I'm not kidding.
+Michael Duvic Oh what a time to be alive :)
LeilaAimeMaquillage indeed. Best time is the time the LORD gives you.
"You are the Dwight Schrute of your musical fruit." Has to be my favorite one yet! hahaha

Simple Food like this actually tastes better than something that might have taken 3 days to make. Simple is better...thanks John.
But...but Demi-glaze... :(

That crispy bread just looks soooo good.
Thank you Chef. Because of you I can literally not say the word 'freshly' without the lilt in my voice, much to the amusement of friends and family. And although it's summer here, I am so in the mood for soup now. Soup is true soul food.
OMG he said dwight shrute!!!! stop the presses and send chef john as many awards we can fit in his house

If you have SAD, check out a light box. Worked for me last year
Which one do you have?
Would this be a bad time to insert a "your mom's box" joke?
+Michael Duvic isuse boze hahah
+Michael Duvic it's ALWAYS a bad time to insert a mom joke.
A vitamin D 😏 supplements can also work if you don't have access to a light box. (Ask your doctor first obviously.)
I'm pretty sure you're doing holy work here. Looks wonderfully tasty!
YUM!! i do not thing anything else needs to be said about this one. Thanks Chef John.
My family LOVED this! Thankyou🙏🏼

Hmmm... Chef John may be stalking you and I'm ok with that, and I am not ok with that. Wrong channel.
+Trevor Greenleaf The friendly guy nobody would have suspected is the real stalker. Ding.
Its cheaper to buy uncooked beans. Sprout them by soaking them. Then simmer them over low heat
Thanksgiving is being held at my house this year and I've been binge watching your videos for a while now 😂
Ah, winter recipes, the only positive side of winter. This looks lovely :)
2:28 and this is why I love the chef John recipes.

+Major Rocker
would you give a few bucks worth of ingredients and your time? because you _could_ have a handful of those croutons!
Thanks for this - I was just thinking it was getting to soup time of year.

Hi Chef! The only thing that helps my winter doldrums is CHOCOLATE! You can see how much I love it by my dramatic all upper case spelling. ❤️
looks amazing. thanks, chef john!
What a hearthy soup, I'm gonna make it, including those powercroutons.
Lovely soup, can't wait to make this for Thanksgiving. I think my family is butternut squash-ed out and this is a great alternative.
I must be super early because its not on the blog yet. Going to put this on my to make list!
Bravo, Chef Giovanni!

I love your home made oven baked crouton recipe. Trouble is I eat them like chips!
Ciao.
Although I love your recipes and videos...can you perhaps maybe do a holiday version of Q & A??? I loved the last one that you did.
I made your tomato bisque for my family the other day and they ate it all. They loved it.
Looking forward to giving this a try. Thanks Chef John:)
Oh looks so good. I also think topping it with cooked pieces of chopped bacon would be delicious to and sour cream.
Your the best. ❤️🙏😇🙏❤️🦋

would have liked at the 4:20 mark too for the crouton technique

Delicious, im making this tomorrow.
Chef John now going from classical mechanics cooking and starting to enter into the realm of quantum mechanics cooking.
That looks amazing. What do you think about bay leaves? Are they appropriate in certain soups or stews and not others?
Long time viewer here! Thanks for the Office reference.
Great recipe!! Can't wait to try it!
I blend sofrito in batches and freeze in food bags. Works great
I've tried this recipe and it was absolutely delicious. :)
"...and ladle that into some hot bowls!" crying from laughter on that one. Also, very delicious soup!
Cold weather? What is that? We are currently rocking 80s high and 60s low is freaking November!!! Only is Florida! FML!
looks delicious, and i'm usually not a big soup guy, ESPECIALLY soups with no meat !!
