Good advice and not always obvious if not experienced with dealing with people out of their comfort zone. For eyeline, I find context is vital. A CEO presenting via video when not able to be in person, obviously straight to camera (if they can, many can do it at a conference in front of hundreds, but go to jelly in front of a camera) but with an explanation of a process for example, talking to a third party off camera makes more sense and is more comfortable for the subject who is probably not used to presenting. For the number of takes, it can be disconcerting to be asked to do it again. I often say, great, we have it but I think you may have a little stumble there in the middle, can we do another for safety. Often they agree, and always ask if they are happy with how they answered the question. If not re - do it as they always appreciate that you are sensitive to their presentation and will probably give a more considered second take. Also gives the chance to add, 'can we make it little shorter - you have it in your head so let's grab another one'. Take a breath and take your time is always good and if appropriate, start with a smile. Often breaks the ice. 90% of people in an interview position are not used to it and if the crew are calm and quiet the talent will be also. Thanks for the video, great points in there. must admit, hate autocue unless the talent is very experienced in using it.....

Some great tips there Terry! I do like the line "one more for safety". Starting with a smile is also very helpful, when appropriate. A calm and quiet crew is also a strong tip! Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave this comment.

Great video. I don’t think it’s a war crime for longer format content like say a 10-15 minute video podcast episode to have a stray word mis pronounced if it means they are relaxed and in a conversational frame of mind.
An off camera line works in some cases to make it clear they are being interviewed which can increase the perceived importance of the piece
