Coach Kojo thank you for this 😍
You know what I enjoy about the content in your videos? You give examples of what you don't want to see and you explain it, then you show the right way.. Bam! very thoughtful ..
+Jim Allen Appreciate the love!
Jim Allen true
That's so true. makes thing much easier to really understand and be able to visualize it when planing our own videos. Great work Peter, keep it going.
I completely agree, it puts everything into perspective and helps those understand visually. I really enjoyed that

3 years later, still timeless content. I’m taking time during my quarantine to learn how to make my videos better. Thanks, Peter!
Me too
I have improved since I started 3 years ago when I first saw this video
Agree!
me too
I subscriber Your Channel!
Peter, I'm a professional still photographer who is using my COVID lock down time to learn video shooting. Can't tell you how valuable your content is. Man, I wish I could give you a hug. Thank you!
I totally agree
What ideas have you had in terms of video making during the lockdown? Ive been trying to do the same but kind of stumped on what to film inside my house Lmao
@@NathanTen I've been somewhat fortunate in that my wife is the children's catechist at our church. Every week she needs to film herself teaching and then upload for later viewing by the kids and their parents. The first week of the lock down they used an iphone. After that I was like, "Ok, I'm going to figure this out." Been getting better and better I think. I also have an idea to help out a friend who has a small business selling metal works online.
Nathan Ten whatever you are passionate about. Speak your truth 🙏🏼
@@TaAtAmMiTa do you know god
Pete, your tutorials are by far the best on youtube. From the humor to the great tips I honestly enjoy every video you post. Thank you so much
I appreciate the compliments!
Peter McKinnon nah you just fine.
You must not watch much youtube.
Right?! That is what I have been saying! And I have watched so many freaking tutorials.
@77dris let him choose his own favourite; whilst we let you 'choose' to type English poorly ;)
1. That coffee was EPIC
2. I’m never playing cards with you
Lol
Cant say enough how rewatching a video like this of yours resets my mind to get ready for project time. Much appreciate!
I agree!
I agree! Watching this before a shoot
Agree. Was just telling my wife. Prob watched it 20 times over the years
That music with the coffee is PERFECT!!! Do you not feel that way in the morning as you make yourself your coffee. Total hero moment. And we get to live it EVERY SINGLE DAY!
these videos make me a better human in general.
LOL. Happy to help with that.

Peter McKinnon You put out great content. can you recommend a good tutorial video for both after effects and Premier pro?
4:04 Most epic coffee making I have ever seen
I got in to video editing about a year ago and this was one of the first videos I watched. A year later and I still have so much to learn! Thanks for the inspiration Peter.
The way you now light your videos at home/studio to how it's here, such mass improvement and sleek, goes to show that once you keep doing something, you just get better and better at it
Good light: soft light close to subject.
Good music: edit to the beat, use ambient noise.
Shoot for the edit: Know what shots you need for your edit
Use motion: More motion = more cinematic shots
Good locations and time of day: Use interesting uncluttered background. Early in the morning, late in the evening.
Amen
Best comment on here
I respect you
Thanks, what does uncluttered mean?
@@martinpusar6765 It means that the background is not messy and "filled" with all sorts of random things that don't go well together
The epic music with the coffee footage kinda works for me 😂☕😍☕😍☕
anordinarymom same here that’s my every epic morning routine 😜
I was wondering what was going to happen to the coffee.
Does anyone know the name of the Epic song that was used?
I was totally thinking that!!! hahahah
anordinarymom second glance changed my perspective of this comment😂❤️
Such a cool delivery man. Sharp, snappy, concise, excellent examples. Thank-you so much.
Thank you so much Peter! You have been one of my most important teachers for many years now...I am very grateful for your giving.
the coffee making was pretty epic tbh...
I'd buy that coffee for sure

Bangla Vlogger ikr
That's what I'm sayin lol I wasn't expecting that
It was amazing!!!!
Thanks for adding a recap at the end. That's so helpful and hardly any "how to" videos actually do it. keep up the great work!
6:49 "Lock the door, crack a Red Bull, and just GO!" - Often times I feel it's hard to find the drive to keep making content, you just gotta edit for a few minutes and the rest comes so much easier. Thanks for the advice and motivation!
I also often lose my drive to make videos, but I guess the only thing we can do is just to keep on going :)
how to make your videos better: have Peter make them for you
LOL
+Peter McKinnon :D
Tyler M 😊😊😊😊
Tyler M thats one way at least

Dude handled those cards like Gambit! Skills!
John Papoulis lmao I thought the same thing
Watching this video in 2019 and it's still absolute gold. Genuinely helpful, quality content.
P R E E A C H H H 🙌🏽
Yes Sir, that's why we can learn a lot about history or past events today... Good value doesn't change over time... For starters, a newbee doesn't have to reinvent the wheel but can get a jump start in the race right up front and launch full flight...
Ha ha. Yeah, film was black and white and silent and everyone walked fast in 2017! 😆
I love how you demonstrated the effects in your videos. Great engagement. Definitely learned alot!
the intro always gives my lil goosebumps ^-^
Always the best tips. You're the best. Tks a lot. I hope to apply them on my vids
Dude, you’re incredible. It’s more than a tutorial on equipment, it’s an intro into making beautiful art!
Joey and Kayla I agree with you because of how easy he made this video and how helpful this is
I don’t wanna ruin the 69 likes
Great tips for musical choices.... We used a super slow song to one of our videos and even we don’t care for that video as much. Now, we always use fast-paced, groove-oriented music for our videos. We learned the hard way how important matching the music to the mood convey the desired effect. Thanks for offering some awesome tips! 📷😎⭐️
Great tips. Thanks for helping improve my videos.
The best tipps i could not get from other youtubers, thank you 😊👌👌
1: light
2: proper music and sound, edit to the beat
3: Learn your editing software
4: Motion in your shots
5: Location
I recently started learning EDITING and this is the first video of Peter i have watched. He filled me with energy and motivation. Now I will work even harder to learn editing. I have great admiration for this guy. Thanks peter.
Thanks, Man I really appreciate your energy as much as your insight. Great video I have shared with folks that ask me for advice on filming several times. Keep doing your thing man.
Thank you for the tips! Wifey and I just jumped on to the UA-cam game and we are trying to learned as much as we can little by little.
This is my first time coming across your video. I am creating a new website and wanted some information before I go full tilt in. Your speech pace was just right to understand your message, and I appreciated your real time examples that supported your message. Thanks so much for the info.
Very crucial information Thanks Sir
Awesome. Thank you. I watched this a few months ago when I first started making videos and live-streaming. I learned stuff then. I'm delighted to have re-watched it today, as I can re-learn things that I didn't quite get the first time!
Excellent tips. Thanks for sharing your wisdom.
You should make a video about some different price point "movie" cameras. A lot of ppl, like me, would probably like to know some good 'budget' cameras!
Rasmus yes!!! Totally feeling this
Rasmus I just bought lumix g7 with 12-60 kit lens. I had older lenses tho. Great camera for video and only costs about 500 euros.
jeetsupa thanks for the tip!
Rasmus No problem. Ootko suomalainen? :D
jeetsupa jees xd

I just realised that Peter is really upping his 'video-game' now.
Thanks for the tips! Learning how to make better content 1 day at a time.
So helpful. Thanks for making it clear and easy. Definitely going to try these tips!
I’m so late to this but I really appreciate how you took the time to record and edit some of the examples. Much easier to understand what you mean when we see the actual result instead of guessing.
Thanks for the tips bro!
Great tips Peter! Simple but effective!
amennnnn
Great advice, going through my mental checklist and admittedly can improve all of these things! Looking forward to putting the ideas into practice
Love this - helpful and super resourceful. Thanks for sharing!
I laughed way too much at those clips with music that didnt match
So did I lol :)
The re-used face punch was a great touch.
Thought it was pretty funny too xD
Hahaha me too! Like what is that music?? Ahahaha, that's a perfect example for the thought he wants to convey. The tips are very helpful tho.
I don't often laugh at youtube videos, but when you replayed that punch I was not expecting that and I had to watch it again :') thanks Peter!
+Daniel James haha mission accomplished :)
Thank you Peter! Really helpful! Can't wait to put these ideas in motion.
Still watching AND learning so much almost three years later! Thanks man!

Lol Same
FragToTheTop Don’t we all ! 😉
amazing advice - thank you Peter
Great tips! I'm going to be incorporating them in everything I film. I especially liked the idea of motion. That shot of the iPhone without, then with the motion, really demonstrated the value of moving your camera. Thanks!
I love you man. I love what you’re doing, and how you do it. I laughed out loud at the face punch. Keep being badass!
You are great. Wonderful tips friend.

Brilliant video Peter, thank you.
smart tips. precise and thoughtful. downloading it for a keep. thanks Peter
@Peter McKinnon Hey bro, I love your color grading, it has evolved from where you started. It has a look lately that really tells the story of a cold winter in Canada. It's a great look. I wonder if you will keep that same look, how will it look with summer footage, I look forward to seeing what you do.
Could you do a tutorial on how you do color grading now and maybe even provide a LUT?
Thanks bro, keep uo the amazing work and congratz on your Subscriber explosion lately, you totally deserve it!
I love watching his videos it makes me feel so inspired to get out there and start filming!

No he was not...
Yes...yes he was (as I binge it all)
He sure looks like it
Great tips! Thank you, Peter! 👏
Thank you for sharing your great ideas 💡
This video is great! I love how you talk about static and how motion is so important. When I do my short films, with a crew, I always make sure there's motion but when I do my UA-cam videos I'm a one person show & crew. Do you have any cool transitions, possibly in editing, for a one person show & crew? I'd love to add motion and/or creative effects but I lock my camera down since I'm also acting all the characters. Would be great to visually add something more to my video scenes if it's possible with not moving the camera 🎥☺️🐶
He seems to be saying to add motion just to add motion. You should move the camera when it makes sense and adds to the emotion. There is nothing wrong with locked or static shots. Look at your favorite films. Some of the most intense scenes in cinema are locked shots.
Flying High I agree with you one hundred percent, motion needs to have a reason; which, I always do in my short films/web series and I use a lot of static shots because sometimes stillness is a wonderful thing when used in the right clips. I’m not wondering when to use motion but if there’s a way or a technique/effect I can add motion, when needed, even though I’m a one person show and crew. I lock the camera in place then I’m the actor in front of the camera, so I won’t be able to move the camera when I’m in the frame. I was hoping there might be some realistic effects out there that can make it look as if I had a cameraperson onset with me.
Everything you do in production and post production, should be done for a reason. Never do this or that just to have this or that in your show.
Why Wait Productions - Jahnnalee how about shooting in 4K so you can do various Ken Burns effects in post - then output to HD so quality is retained.
Great birthday gift for me - a video from Mr. McKinnon - thanks!
Happy Birthday!
I appreciate that. Now I just need some of those mad card skills you demo'd today - watch out David Blaine!
Jeffrey Pickett Actually you can learn some of those pretty easily!
Its like a present everyday haha. As a clothing line we got inspired by him and others to make our own content
I just discovered this channel the other day and every single video I watch is basically a home run on great tips. Thanks!!
Thanks for the advice! It’s much appreciated
