I also got an 09 R1 and also switched to engine ice. I remember before I switched it would constantly overheat in stopped traffic. I’m taking about 245°F or higher. When I switched to the engine ice it hasn’t over heated since. Reaches 225-230, and starts going back down even when the bike isn’t moving.
WOW! I SUBSCRIBED JUST BECAUSE OF UR DEMEANOR AND MENTALITY AND HONESTY WITHIN THE FIRST 2 MINUTES :)I EARNED MY MOTORCYCLE LICENSE LAST YEAR AND SO I AM STARTING OUT ON A 200 THIS SEASON WORKING MY WAY UP, I'LL BE ABLE TO RIDE AN R1 ONE DAY. I HOPE TO MAKE MOTORCYCLING A LIFE LONG HOBBY OF MINE. GOD BLESS AND STAY SAFE OUT THERE.
Yeah, the sound of the R1 was a huge factor for me. When I bought this bike, I didn't realize that it had the race baffles installed. Then I looked more carefully after the buy, totally assuming I was going to need to get slip ons, and was very happily surprised at the fact that she had the race baffles. When she arrived and I started her for the first time...I was just elated at how good she sounded. Oh and thanks for the BF4 battles yesterday and for the Tea bags LOL...see now I owe ya.
Nice man. She may have some little problems and things you dont like, but when you rip her, and the crossplane engine roars, you just forget everything. Until it doesnt go into gear properly ahaha ;)
My friend's dad has one, yesterday we went to a diner and he took me on his R1... Man it was fucking nuts... I also got it on video cuz i knew it would be nice to have that recorded.. Man, he probably didn't even did a half throttle pull, not even close to redline, i almost shit myself
Eh, not sure if I think the R1 sounds like a Ducati. The Ducati sound has little more peppier and the R1 sound has little more of a throatier growl, if that sense. Kind of like an Older V8 vs a more modern one. Prefer older V8 Sounds as I do the R1 over Ducati.
#8 R1 is a great bike with a unique exhaust sound well actually it sounds a lot like a Aprillia rsv4 I mean exactly when you do exhaust mods like you did check my video aprillia tuono vs vfr1200f V4 battle and you tell me if that's sounds like your cross plane 4? Anyways sorry for not watching sooner I'll try to stay up to date my friend. Peace brother
We all have different intensions and mentalities. It appears to me that anyone can forever alter their lives path on any bike that goes faster than 30 or so MPH, but thanks for your comment. Be good and be kind...god bless you. Oh and for clarity, the R1 sounds way better then just "cool"...😁
I absolutely love this bike and my 2016. Long rides are a question of what you are willing to put up with. It is a sports bike and not made for extreme comfort. You can get a more cushioned seat and raise the Clip-ons and she would be more comfortable. My extent of long rides has been a few hours...but I love them and am willing to put up with slight right wrist pain (can be fixed with a Cruz control after market assembly) and other small discomforts of riding a sports bike. The R1 has a bigger cockpit so it is more roomier for us big guys (I am 6' 4" also). It is not an adventure bike so you still are gonna be leaning over when riding and can only go about 120 miles or so on a tank, so there is that. But as far as awesomeness goes...there is no other bike that I would want to own, but I am very particular.
What do you personally feel about the brakes on these bikes? Asking because I'm thinking of upgrading to this whilst never owning a non abs bike prior to this one.
Honestly, I have never really ridden this bike very hard and never really tested the brakes. So for the type of riding I did on this bike the brakes were/are perfect. I have pushed my 2016 way harder, including several track days, and that bike has ABS. With that said the ABS on the track has never been an issue. Though I now ride in the A group, I am certainly not the fastest in the group, and most of those guys remove the ABS. So the 2009 brakes should be fine. Side note, I am planning on upgrading my brake pads (2016 R1) and based on what everyone is saying that virtually eliminates any brake fade that might arise, which I did feel slightly @ A group pace. Hope that helps :).
messiahthomas52 ... The bike is very strong but if u under ride it, it won't overwhelm u. Meaning, I ride or at least try to ride very cautiously. I did crash her but it wasn't because I was riding like an ass. I target fixated and panicked at a moderate speed. Be good man.
@@IamLaR1 sorry wasn’t trying to be a dick, was just telling you it’s a crankshaft. No big deal. I would have said the same thing in person. So wasn’t trying to be some keyboard ass hole.
Not sure what u mean bro. I didn't by the bike in 09. I got her in 2016, the year I made the video. Anyway, thanks for commenting and have a blessed day....La
Have not seen a single motorcycle above 600cc that doesn't run hot. Running hot is just part of the game with high performance bikes.

With power come great responsibility. Never get ahead of yourself. The R1 sounds pretty dope.
CLUTCH1st ...you said it. There is plenty of power to get lost in.
I'm gonna get one tomorrow. Can't wait
congrats...ride smart and your will have a forever smile.
@@IamLaR1 It's in the garage and I already smiling

Congrats you!! That is awesome that you got your license. Be safe and try to always be aware, but most importantly enjoy.
Just going back thru some older videos...how has the riding been going? Hopefully as safe as can be.
I’m 19 And starting out on a 2009r1 wish me luck
I remember being is San Francisco and an R1 snuck up on me. It sounded like a hotrod V8 and when it went by I was like, what the hell was that thing?

Samuel Wicks ...I know right...that whole thing was kinda bothersome, but she seems to be a lot better now after the readjustment.

The aggressive seat angle gets me too even with stock seat.
My First bike was a rupp roadster 5hp. I was 8. Not sure an r1 is a good bike to learn on because it sounds cool

another good video bro
I want one of those r7s u were talking about
Man those bike are so legit, but so hard to find. Rumor has it Yamaha is gonna start building R7's again so that is good.
Hey, I’m 6’4” and was wondering is the bike good for long rides? What has been your experience with riding the bike?

It only goes as fast as you turn the throttle I owned a zx 10 never had problems with the speed
Nice
