I have 3000 miles on my 2016 R1 now, and I have become used to the agressive seating position now. I've done a 250 miles back road ride with only a short break, and my 45 year old frame wasn't to stressed and aching. Nice bike :)
Great video, fair analysis of the bike. For me, the 3,000 mile mark is where I feel like I really know a new bike and all its positive and negative attributes. Yellow isn't my favorite color for a motorcycle but I think it looks really sharp on your bike. Enjoy!
I have the '15 R1 Raven. can't think of anything bad to say about it other than it forces me to be more social because of all the questions people ask ....'Is that the new R1? ... how fast?. .. do you like it? ... etc, etc.
Wish I could've hit the 1 month marker. Bought a 2017 R1 3 weeks ago and somebody managed to knock it over so it'll be spending the 1 month in the shop. Beautiful bike and great vid!
My R1 is my everyday bike. Already put in some good miles on it. I love it, I am not a fan of skinny bikes but learned to love this one. Got it reflashed with a full M4 exhaust. Loud but also went down on gas mileage. I use it daily and I have no issues doing it, its comfortable enough for me.
Sifaka I’m looking to get an r1 but I keep seeing so many people comment and say it’s not a comfortable street or commute bike but I’m going for it anyway.
Fortunately, I do have a 60 anniversary. My biggest gripe is the off the bottom clutch actions could’ve been smoother along with the larger instrument numbers (characters).other than that, fantastic! I ran around in a”A power mode all the time I need that power all the time to escape boxing situation, etc.. I have been riding 37 years. This is my 18th motorcycle so I do have some experience in how to handle the power so I don’t dump down the bike that’s just me… ride safe
I love the bike! Looks like it belongs on Leguna Seca! I'm going to purchase the 2017 R1s... I'm leaving the Suzuki GSXR! I'm keeping the old bike, but ready for this beauty! I love the roads you're on! They're beautiful! Where exactly are you riding? And by the way, I love the yellow! That's the color of my GSXR...
yeah about that heat issue, did they even implement heat sheilding? it seems as if the tank is conducting the heat right from the engine, a bit concerning.
I commute almost daily on mine in Africa - it doesnt like sitting in traffic and easy hits +/- 100 Deg C in hotter days. HOWEVER - my R6 hit the same temperatures if not slightly more, so I cant blame the bike. Uncomfortable? Sure - ever sat at a red light on a hot day waiting for it to change? But I dont feel the heat from the bike personally
What are your thoughts on the 2016 R1S? I can pick up a new/old stock one for $9,999 or a 2017 R1 for $12,999. Is it worth the extra cost or should I jump on the R1S?
Did you add LEDs in the front in the fairing slots or they come yamahe like that I'm from the gig crabcake myself Cecil county Maryland lol the r1 is beautiful in any color you choose🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🌵
Love the anniversary editions. I had an '02 stolen when I used to live in MoCo. Love watching familiar roads. Just bought a 2016 FJR1300A. Its quick, faster than the FZ10 I test drove last week, but not R1 fast! I miss mine a lot... my dealer has an anniversary edition on the floor....
This is the most beautiful color scheme of the current model. Nevertheless I am more a fan of the "face" of the previous generation. I am a fan of bronze/gold rims (one of the reasons why I bought that specific model of my fz09). Enjoy your riding! Ride safe, Mike
Beautiful bike!! Insurance premium on this bike in LA is just insane. One advantage of being old is cheap ins premium but as far as insurance co is concerned, I'm a single 21 yrs old. Congrats :)
Hello! i have a question,do you have the motorcycle under your name or your parents for the insurance? if under yours how much is it counting that you're young adult.
Do you mean a 2015 R1? If that's what you mean then NO... NO... NO. The R1s, R1, and R1M are street legal MOTOGP bikes. The 'Race kit' doesn't even have that much in it. Don't let anyone tell you that the R1s is a friendly street version of the R1. The difference between them is so little that for a street bike it's not worth discussing. I'll tell you that the R1s has a slightly heavier crankshaft which is better on the street.
Fortunately, I have links long enough to be 55 and it’s way too uncomfortable for every day rider no companies for me I just know they intended purpose of the bike is for what it is so I have a super tenere’ 1200 for that
He forgot to mention that an older bike will do most of what this can. I got one and I can tell you that it is a waste of money. Buy an older one and upgrade it. It will be cheaper and faster. The only reason to buy a bike like this is loving the way it looks, having a ton of money to throw away, or hating the idea of used bikes.
I disagree, the electronics and traction control on this bike are amazing and worthy. Power is superb. Torque is incredible. Weight at 439 lbs - incredible. I got mine new at 13,499 with a year extended warranty. Best purchase ever/.
How many of the US riders actually take their bikes to the track? I just ordered my 2018 r1 and i will straight away swap everything to trackuse and only ride it on the tracks because i think its just not made for streets, you can never use the whole bike, i dont get, why people get thoose very uncomfortable bikes only for street use ...
Friend of mine just bought 2018 model, must be the worsed sounding exhaust ever, bought a two brothers now fucking hell gone from sounding like a generator to absolute thunder aftermarket exhaust is a must that's my opinion. Also the back seat is a waste of time unless you've got a size 6 pillon & that could be pushing it.
Hey bud how tall are you? About how long can you ride before it starts getting uncomfortable and is it your ass or your wrists that begin to hurt first? Thanks for info, great vid
The seat is not too bad but Saddleman makes a seat everyone seems to like and it come with a pillion cover as well. As for your wrists... depends how tall and long your arms are. you should avoid putting a lot of weight on your wrists anyway.
What a load of shit this guy saying it has power everywhere what bullshit anything below 6 RPM this thing has no power the power comes to play around 7 and above then yes this bike is awsome any RPM below 7 is fucked I have 2016 Matt Gray R1. that's my take on it.
I have 3000 miles on my 2016 R1 now, and I have become used to the agressive seating position now. I've done a 250 miles back road ride with only a short break, and my 45 year old frame wasn't to stressed and aching.
Nice bike :)
Nice! My problem has always been pain in my wrist (old injury) I just got used to it after a while... Lol
Thanks!
Yamaha is consistent and loyal to the seating posture and position, established with the original 98 R1, THAT has not changed.
I'll be picking up a 60th Anniversary soon! You made the right choice!
Great video, fair analysis of the bike. For me, the 3,000 mile mark is where I feel like I really know a new bike and all its positive and negative attributes. Yellow isn't my favorite color for a motorcycle but I think it looks really sharp on your bike. Enjoy!
Thanks! I plan on doing a follow up video down the road
I have the '15 R1 Raven. can't think of anything bad to say about it other than it forces me to be more social because of all the questions people ask ....'Is that the new R1? ... how fast?. .. do you like it? ... etc, etc.

You heard the man, if you are looking at one of these, go ahead and get it!

The yellow is the absolute best color for this bike.
Fortunately, I do have a 60 anniversary. My biggest gripe is the off the bottom clutch actions could’ve been smoother along with the larger instrument numbers (characters).other than that, fantastic! You would make a wise choice on the tires, I love the Q3's. They're a great tire.
So from my understanding the 60th anniversary r1 is all of a r1m except the shocks…
Is that correct?
I love the bike! Looks like it belongs on Leguna Seca! I'm going to purchase the 2017 R1s... I'm leaving the Suzuki GSXR! I'm keeping the old bike, but ready for this beauty! The only time it really gets too hot is in traffic. Once you get moving it cools off fast
I commute almost daily on mine in Africa - it doesnt like sitting in traffic and easy hits +/- 100 Deg C in hotter days. HOWEVER - my R6 hit the same temperatures if not slightly more, so I cant blame the bike. Uncomfortable? Sure - ever sat at a red light on a hot day waiting for it to change? oh my, 100+C... ouch
I just picked up my R1 this past friday and I'm loving it. I also live in the Bowie area and would love to go on a ride sometime man!
Congrats! I'm always down for for a ride

Love the paint old kenny roberts paint job just bought my first harley hate it ! Will be trading for another crotch rocket thanx for the vid
Gorgeous part of the country you live in. Where about?
Did you add LEDs in the front in the fairing slots or they come yamahe like that I'm from the gig crabcake myself Cecil county Maryland lol the r1 is beautiful in any color you choose🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🌵
Great insight man, not full of the bs everyone already know
Your voice sounds great and clear!
Million thumbs up for this video
Love the anniversary editions. I had an '02 stolen when I used to live in MoCo. Love watching familiar roads. Just bought a 2016 FJR1300A. Its quick, faster than the FZ10 I test drove last week, but not R1 fast! I miss mine a lot... my dealer has an anniversary edition on the floor....
You still have your bike?
I just picked up my Anniversary edition two days ago! I love it already, but can wait until it's broken in.
What mic/ stereo setup do you have for your Helm?
Just copped my 2012 R1 my baby CLEAN and Freaking BEAST!! 😈🏍
the bike is beautiful, but I'm more of a CBR 1000RR guy but I would buy one
Q3s are nice i had 3 sets of them but try power 3s from michelin
your mic quality sounds amazing, which is it if you don't mind? and does it come with a wind sock, if not which?
I use the Sony 2 Channel Lapel Mic. And a generic dead-cat
I have a 2011 R1 with 13k on it......love it! But am debating bettering selling it for this new R1 or the Panigale v4
how does the quick shift work ?
This is the most beautiful color scheme of the current model. Nevertheless I am more a fan of the "face" of the previous generation. I am a fan of bronze/gold rims (one of the reasons why I bought that specific model of my fz09). Enjoy your riding!
Ride safe, Mike
How do those headlights work at night?
What mic do you use?
Great video!! I’m going to buy a pre-owned one and add helibar risers for more comfort.
Beautiful bike!! Insurance premium on this bike in LA is just insane. One advantage of being old is cheap ins premium but as far as insurance co is concerned, I'm a single 21 yrs old. Congrats :)
Thanks! The insurance definitely sucks but it's worth it :)
I heard you only need liability thru Yamaha! Anyone else heard that?
Dude the insurance is 2-3K a year in Houston TX
nice bike, what camera do you use and I live in Aberdeen MD we should ride some time
Thanks!
I use a Hero 3+ Silver. I have a Hero 4 Black but it likes to overheat... I'm always down for a ride :)
does it have super view?
MDSupersportRider are you in Facebook ??
Is this bike have any break in period??
TC is meant for knee down riding. The rest of the time your wrist.
The yellow looks the best
how was it interesting?...what happened to the passenger?... did they die?
Hello!
i have a question,do you have the motorcycle under your name or your parents for the insurance?
if under yours how much is it counting that you're young adult.
The insurance is in my name. For the R1 and the V-Rod it's $570/mo for full coverage
Being independent is just awesome xD
Buys an r1.... rides around in d mode. Should of bought a prius
Mike Robb pretty sure I heard him say B mode..
Lol @ your ego. Go right ahead and wrap yourself around a pole, dipshit. He is on the street. I respect his responsible riding 100%.
come up to PA to ride
excuse me, do you think the new r6 is worth buying?
Definitely. If you're looking for a 600 it's a strong contender
Jason Wijaya same engine as 08-16 not worth paying 13999 cad imo!!
I thought the display was full color. Why does yours look monochromatic?
The tach changes from black to green, orange and red as you rev. The brake pressure meter is also colored
R15 is it the best choice for begener rider?
Do you mean a 2015 R1? If that's what you mean then NO... NO... NO. The R1s, R1, and R1M are street legal MOTOGP bikes. The 'Race kit' doesn't even have that much in it. Fortunately, I have links long enough to be 55 and it’s way too uncomfortable for every day rider no companies for me I just know they intended purpose of the bike is for what it is so I have a super tenere’ 1200 for that
How is it's mid range power?
In my opinion it's excellent! Especially compared to the CBR 600
Oh, thanks man. Appreciate it.

I'm buying a brand new R1 and a S1000RR
Bob johnson Sweet
You should not get either. I have one of these and it sucks. Buy an older bike then upgrade it.
off1c1al why you say it sucks?
R1S also fits in with the S1000 single r category
No it doesn't.
Can this also do my math homework?
Bike color awsome :) vid ;)

Not much faster than an old one. Electronics are useless if you learn how to ride the bike.
Very nice choice

Excellent choice especially in yellow
"I think it’s pretty cool"

It’s just weird how my Zx6r is louder than an R1
