I think the aftermarket will replicate the V2 style exhaust for these. Im just supprised that yamaha didnt spend $30 extra and weld metal covers to clean up the dented up can.
Yes! Finally a bike i really want. I love that it's not tiny. It's like every bike is custom made for "little people" and unrideable for normal height people
Yeah, no way, you guys can ride quite literally anything you want. At the worst you might be uncomfortable, but you can most certainly ride it. Me? Short ass over here - basically any bike with over 820mm seat height is a no-go, which you'll be amazed to know, is basically.....every.... single.... bike out there - that's not a 600cc. "lowering" isn't an option to me with the way it changes handling. Sure I can ride taller bikes on flats, but I don't live in a flat area, there's technical roads, cambers. I'd be doomed, my foot wouldn't ever reach the floor.
Just bought the MT09 SP, guess I have to take the R9 for a spin then. The engine is a hoot and even on the MT you're doing 120 mph way too fast. Most people here never tried the CP3. It's just plain fun. I just sold my '21 Hayabusa, to get the MT09 and recently rode the Super Duke 1290 R. Both 180+ hp and loads of torque and so on, but it's just too much for the road. Going fast in a straight line get's old real quick (german here, it's allowed) The difference is that you can really work with 100% of the power of the CP3 engine on the road as a moderatly competent rider. I also own a Street Triple 675. I can't imagine prefering a long geared 600 over the R9 on the street. The 675 is a great bang for the buck motorcycle, but what the CP3 does from 5k to 10k feels just exactly right for a lightweight roadbike. The Z900 with more hp and more torque feels tame and boring in comparison.
I have beautiful 06 675 that I love. But she’s being very very uncooperative lately. If I can’t get the bike to behave on the street I may have to sell her to get this R9. The exhaust tone is very similar and I can only imagine what 19 years of tech advancements will do for the riding experience. Very excited for March to come around.
@nsant there's an r3 rider that can outclass riders on 1000cc bikes, riding a bike that small is probably more fun on uk roads because you can actually use most of its hp and you aren't stuck in 1st gear the majority of the time.
I like it, love the cp3. Whoever complains about power compared to 600s probably spend way less time on a racetrack than they’re trying to make you believe.
I have 2023 mt10 tuned, flashed, and a mid pipe. It only runs 0.3 seconds faster than my not tuned, not flashed, slip on exhaust Zx6r in the quarter mile. I'm not sure how fast this R9 will be.
@nsant these aren't drag bikes haha. They are made for road courses, with corners. If all one cares about is straight lines, could probably get a used busa and extend the swingarm
@@haleycbrrr No shit they aren't drag bikes. Everyone is comparing them to the R6. The R6 and zx6r are basically identical. I'm comparing my Mt10 to the zx6r which leads me to believe that the R9 won't keep up with a 600 like people think. Plus this bike will not be better than the R6 for the twisties.
I'm not gona lie that bike looks good and I'm not a sports bike dude... "straight out the crate , dub plate". It's been a long time since I heard those lines 😂
love it. you guys really touched on the heart of the matter and that for 12 and a half grand its a true value. im thrilled that for once someone has something good to say about the R9. and an opinion from you guys really matters to me, more than many others. you both have ridden some of the most exotic machines ever built and to hear you talk about this bike in such positive ways means alot. iam highly considering this bike. all the criticism aside from people who judge way too easily i think its going to be an amazing bike to own. everyone complaining about this bike not being an R1, its not an R1 but for 99 percent of the population do you really need 200 hp for street bike riding? which is where at least 90 percent of riding actually happens.
It's more expensive than a ZX6R that has more power and an engine that revs to 16k. The CP3 engine is fine in the MT09 or Tracer, but it's not a sports bike engine. All low down grunt and zero top end. You don't need 200 hp on the road, but 117 is just rubbish for a sports bike.
@@MyMednas you make a good point. the mt 09 is probably a much better bike for road use than the R9. i really like that zx6 just wish team green would update it with quick shifter up and down and better tech package. the power and revability is there and the price is reasonable, kawasaki seems to be a bit slow on their updates in such a competitive market you'd think they wouldnt be able to afford to fall behind.

Love my XSR. The CP3 is awesome. I have no interest in going 130+ but I want to get there quickly. The power/torque curve is exactly what I look for. It’s there when I need it, not overly RPM dependent.
Had they announced the R9 a year ago I would've put a deposit down immediately. But i bought an R7 and I am super happy with it. This is great and I hope all manufacturers follow suit. I’m 6’2 and always felt I had to compromise between excessively powerful superbikes or cramped / cheap 600s. The only middle ground out there was the V2. Glad this is in the mix. Hope they bring the GYTR packages to this! ❤

A sport bike that actually makes sense to ride on the street, no wonder people are hating🤣 Hardcore track bikes for the street, noone's buying them, this one actually makes sense for the performance oriented crowd that won't buy a high end bike just to get it out of their system then tire of the impracticality and sell it and never go back. I think Yamaha already pushed the boundaries making the R7 riding position so hardcore, it payed off in tracking/racing but would have had a much better life selling to the public were it not for that. They made a perfect street bike then, at the last moment, compromised it to please their fanbase and stay a little closer to their heritage, resulting in a confused product that doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. Can't wait for the first ride reviews of the R9
@valebliz I've not ridden an L4 600 but my bike is lighter than the r9 and is a smaller capacity so therefore should be less thirsty 😅..... plus if you ride the L4 600 "like you should" then it seems likely that you would ride the r9 the same?!
Depends where you will ride, if its just on the street and you live somewhere with where there's not many open roads then the MT09 is going to be better. You can pick up a gen 3 sp for about £7k now.
I'm still somewhat tentative. I'll have to sit on it to make a final judgemental but it looks extremely promising, even for taller riders which is always an issue for me. The larger tank with the lines up higher might work for my legs and if that's the case, I'll be extremely happy.
The blokes who say that it should have been 200hp and 1000cc are the same middle aged men I see plodding around on their gixxers at 40mph everywhere in their full power ranger matching suits and helmets... 😂😂😂
My 2013 triple mv f3-800 made 148ps stock exhaust - i am sure yamaha could have boosted the 900cc engine but have chosen not too? Ive never riden one but a drag race with the ftr1200 they are almost identical and my ftr was not short on grunt. My replacement s1000r is just more serious on the road and brings me back to the goldlocks of a road bike being fun and usuable- we're all different and get our enjoyment from different elements of riding bikes. 😀

I was a little off on the pics from last week. But your shots actualy show it look pretty damn good. The only sticking point is, at least here in the US, you can get a GSXR750 with significanlty more HP for about the same price. And who really needs more than 117HP on the street and with the R9's bigger torque lower down on the rev range will make it a blast of a street bike. Think a lot of value for the money.
exhaust looks like a metal colostomy bag. Rest looks good. Imagine this will be a very good motorcycle. Thanks for review and shout out for mental health.
Well done Yamaha! I’d never buy one as I’m happy with my ‘21 SP and that would break my back and wrists as a daily bike…but I can daydream about taking this on a few laps of Cadwell Park….
@44Teeth: Thank you for this video, love you guys! I feel the R9 has the right specs, looks and price to do pretty good saleswise. With the 990 RC R and the CBR 600 RR as its closest competitors up and down the price range. I admit I"m a CP3 homer. My 2019 MT-09 SP makes 123 ps / 100 Nm now after beeing dynoed, with basically 10 Nm more torque across the rev range. Stock exhaust, modified intake. When I open the throttle your Ariel Ace R video comes to my mind. So good. Blipper is also on board finally, the bike is an absolute keeper. Cheers guys ✌️
I think quite a bit of the moaning about bikes now comes from people that are unable to interpret the performance of a bike as the linear displacement scale of days gone. Manufacturers are now using larger powerplants to create the same power with less effort and a more usable powerband for most people. But people see 890cc and think it should scale 30% more horsepower than an r6, when in reality it can make the same power earlier in the revs, with more torque, burning less fuel and in theory requiring less maintenance. Why is this a bad thing?
Because "people" are dumb, and many of them, especially the demographic interested in sportbikes, only have enough neurons and attention span to think "bigger number good, smaller number bad".
What do you think then ladies? Hot or Not?

@@unshdhGbzbs yes a 3 cylinder 😀
Looks great.
Still think my XSR900 24 at 9k was a better buy for a road bike.
oh for sure a better road bike, but race bois gonna be race bois lol
best video of features about the r9, Thank you guys for answering several questions about the r9. Greetings from a fan from Brazil.
3:46 Everybody!
For all the tech you get with the MT09 or XSR900 for the money, and how much fun they are to ride, I can only imagine this will be a great bike too.
More relevant than ever. Bike prices are way outa hand. Good job yamaha, I'll definitely look at one when I'm changing
If theres a wing delete I'll take one! The people complaing about the hp are straight line warriors. This will be a fantastic street bike and do just fine on track!
I think the aftermarket will replicate the V2 style exhaust for these. Im just supprised that yamaha didnt spend $30 extra and weld metal covers to clean up the dented up can.
First bike for a long time that would tempt me to put my hand in my pocket and buy one new! Just the right mix of sporty and usability on the road.
Its called a busa
@@ellwoodwolf Bingo haha. love mine.
This will be my endgame, currently riding Aprilia rs457
Glad I bought my new gsxr750. Zuke nation!
Still with analog dash ? 😅
Going fast in a straight line get's old real quick (german here, it's allowed)
The difference is that you can really work with 100% of the power of the CP3 engine on the road as a moderatly competent rider.
Cant wait to see it on track in world supersport next year
This has me doing the man maths to see how I can buy one. Never owned a sport bike but always liked the idea.
Just bagged a new ZX10R for £14k. Think I’ll stick with that.
Good choice
It's on finance so is it really £14k?
@@zenmoto369 depends how fast he pays it off to beat the interest. I do wonder when I see guys in their 20s on 35k bikes…Ducati, cbr-rr …
Nice scooter lol, have fun riding in first and second all day😂
Yes and no one under 30 can afford to insure our ridiculous 200bhp bikes 😢,, would have loved a braver launch livery 🎉 ,but like
The center light is going to have to grow on me, but I’m genuinely pretty excited about the idea of an MT09 engine in a sport bike chassis.
I waited years for it and its everything I hoped for
You waited years for this, Why didn't you just go out and Buy a Triumph Daytona 675 or the 765? Same formula and same power..
I think Yamaha have knocked it out the park. I hope it rides as good as it looks!
Is this basically the new 675 Daytona? I like it
I have beautiful 06 675 that I love. But she’s being very very uncooperative lately. If I can’t get the bike to behave on the street I may have to sell her to get this R9. The exhaust tone is very similar and I can only imagine what 19 years of tech advancements will do for the riding experience. Very excited for March to come around.
To be honest right now the CFmoto 675 SR is the king of the 600-900 CC range, I was waiting for this one to come out but definitely going for the CF
The pricing on this bike looks very reasonable compared the the R1, bikes costing up to 18 grand is just silly.
This bike is also about 60% of the power of an R1
@@nsant That extra power is useless on UK roads though, this bike has more than enough.
Drive an r1 and you know why ..
@@jayc342009 With that paradigm, nobody should buy any bike faster than an R3. Any bigger bike than that has power that's unusable on the street
@nsant there's an r3 rider that can outclass riders on 1000cc bikes, riding a bike that small is probably more fun on uk roads because you can actually use most of its hp and you aren't stuck in 1st gear the majority of the time.
I have an r6. I will definetly buy this at some point!
@@nsantzx6 is a lighter bike geared towards traçk/race
The cp3 is enough... But we already have two of those that are more comfortable...
An SP version will be extra tasty! I believe this model will do well in all markets.
Nice looking bike. Have the xsr900gp it's brilliant fun. The cp3 motor is great
It will desperately need an exhaust. As someone with 35k miles on a MT09 SP, this is bound to be a fantastic bike.
I'm not gona lie that bike looks good and I'm not a sports bike dude...
"straight out the crate , dub plate".
It's been a long time since I heard those lines 😂
CP3 engine is soo much fun, anyone that slates this has never ridden a MT09, Tenere 900, XSR900 etc.
First thing owners will do is a full exhaust and an ECU flash with PAIR valve block-offs.
love it. you guys really touched on the heart of the matter and that for 12 and a half grand its a true value. im thrilled that for once someone has something good to say about the R9. and an opinion from you guys really matters to me, more than many others. you both have ridden some of the most exotic machines ever built and to hear you talk about this bike in such positive ways means alot. iam highly considering this bike. all the criticism aside from people who judge way too easily i think its going to be an amazing bike to own. everyone complaining about this bike not being an R1, its not an R1 but for 99 percent of the population do you really need 200 hp for street bike riding? which is where at least 90 percent of riding actually happens.
@@MyMednas Low grunt is what matters when it comes to street riding.
@@MyMednas you make a good point. the mt 09 is probably a much better bike for road use than the R9. i really like that zx6 just wish team green would update it with quick shifter up and down and better tech package. the power and revability is there and the price is reasonable, kawasaki seems to be a bit slow on their updates in such a competitive market you'd think they wouldnt be able to afford to fall behind.
bloody two tier seating
The most excited part of this bike is a Brembo brakes. The rest parts was already been there on MT-09 and Tracer 9. As an owner of Tracer 9 GT I can’t wait for a brembo brakes on it 😢 the most wanted part 😅
Could this be the GSXR750 for the 20’s
I mean you can still buy a GSXR 750 here in Canada. MSRP is like 14k CAD which is roughly 8k pounds. Not hating on this bike but it seems expensive for what you get
fair point!
Here in the States you can still get a Gixxer 750 and I'd honestly rather have one over the R9. I just don't see value for the price
@@robbieracer3294 unfortunately here in NZ they finished in 21,because they don’t come with ABS , which I got one, incredible value for money
@@robbieracer3294 in your specific case, I do understand it. But still, the Suzuki brings 0 electronics, old dash, old design, still a yellow bulb in the headlight. It rather depends from which side you want to see it.
Great bike 🔥 confused by the comments section 🤔 wonder what exactly people expected the R9 to be
I think this is one of the best looking sportbikes to come out in a while. It looks modern, but not too radical, so I think it will age well. As to performance, it will be sufficient to satisfy anyone outside of full-time racers, so it looks a winner to me. A goldilocks bike 👍

Love my XSR. The CP3 is awesome. I have no interest in going 130+ but I want to get there quickly. The power/torque curve is exactly what I look for. It’s there when I need it, not overly RPM dependent.
Looks well.
Had they announced the R9 a year ago I would've put a deposit down immediately. But i bought an R7 and I am super happy with it. Now I cannot wait until I get to try it out and see what's what, and then maybe consider a switch. I also tried a couple of weeks ago the MVAugusta F3RR and it was a beast. But at 20K€ the base one, 26K€ the RR one with all the carbon fiber bits and bobs, I don't think I am going to consider that one unless I suddenly get a massive paycheck raise.
the fact that ppl have the bike but cant ride it yet is actually just driving me insane dude like why not????

I'm sure they can ride it they just can't put that type of video online yet due to some embargo by yamaha media.

Blue wheels make it look cheap. Stick to silver/gold/black/white for wheels.
Hey man , i am 6'2 aswell, and i sadly had to sell my R7 because it was too small for me in the long run. You reckon the R9 will be more bigger than the R7? I am interested to know how tall the rider is in the video
@@Gino.R7yep so very early in the video they say the bike is “massive” and maybe even bigger than the R1.

A sport bike that actually makes sense to ride on the street, no wonder people are hating🤣
Hardcore track bikes for the street, noone's buying them, this one actually makes sense for the performance oriented crowd that won't buy a high end bike just to get it out of their system then tire of the impracticality and sell it and never go back.
Basically 600cc sportbike HP. With a load more torque.
An mt09 with longer gearing.
Loads of tech. And a good price!
STOP MOANING PEOPLE FFS
But heavier with a smaller tank and greater fuel consumption 🤷♂️ just saying
@alangraddock4199 than what an mt09??😂 if that's what you're assed about, then buy the mt09. They both have different job.
@Scouse.Malinois no, than a 600 😂
@@alangraddock4199it doesn’t have worse fuel consumption than a L4 600 lmao, not if you’re riding one like you should at least.
@valebliz I've not ridden an L4 600 but my bike is lighter than the r9 and is a smaller capacity so therefore should be less thirsty 😅..... plus if you ride the L4 600 "like you should" then it seems likely that you would ride the r9 the same?!
I'm torn between this and the MT-09. I know the MT will be more comfortable, but this looks so good.
Same but I ended up picking up an xsr900 for a sweet deal
Get an xsr900 gp or get a 900 and put a fairing body kit on it. It gets the best comfort and looks even cooler
Like he said xsr 900 gp is middle ground. Maybe regular xsr900 has the same clip ons?
@@shivamarya5225 interesting idea I'll look into that.
Depends where you will ride, if its just on the street and you live somewhere with where there's not many open roads then the MT09 is going to be better. You can pick up a gen 3 sp for about £7k now.
Can't wait for the facelift change in a few years.
I'm still somewhat tentative. I'll have to sit on it to make a final judgemental but it looks extremely promising, even for taller riders which is always an issue for me. The larger tank with the lines up higher might work for my legs and if that's the case, I'll be extremely happy.

Well, it's not a patch on my Royal Enfield Classic 350 Signals with 20 BHP of raw power, but hey! Each to his own, I suppose. 😂
exhaust looks like a metal colostomy bag. Rest looks good. Imagine this will be a very good motorcycle. Thanks for review and shout out for mental health.
117 HP... And not 170 0:45
I think they said 117 but i guess it's too vague to understand
Well done Yamaha! I’d never buy one as I’m happy with my ‘21 SP and that would break my back and wrists as a daily bike…but I can daydream about taking this on a few laps of Cadwell Park….
10 BHP down, but this is closer to the spirit of the original 900cc Fireblade than the modern 200BHP litre bikes.
The 900cc Fireblade had 4 cilinders
Don’t even compare this to the fireblade😂 this is an engine that Yamaha is moving around and covering in different plastic.
That 93 CBR 900RR that was sold in the US was a much better looking bike IMO
Very exciting. Can't wait to try this bike out.
I think you should both get some Therapy asap 🙄
Looking forward to buying this second handed about five years from now
