Jack Klugman lived next door to my mom when they were kids. 6th and Morris Sts. in South Philly. He and my cousin, Joe Roman who played Detective Brill on "Quincy" grew up together and went to the same acting school as Charles Bronson. The three of them were the best of friends.
If you look at where he is buried in Westwood, LA, the people in the niche below his have the surname 'Unger' - the name of Tony Randall's character in The Odd Couple. Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are also buried in Westwood.
Phyllis was an original as well as multitalented. She starred on Broadway in HELLO DOLLY, and she could sing very well. She started off by becoming a classical music concert pianist, before conquering the realm of comedy. Her spoken voice cracked me up in that it had a Middle West cadence while her laughter became of legend.
I have to say, this was done with beauty and compassion. I didn't realize some of these people passed on. It is a bit sad to watch, but it is something we will all go through eventually. This really makes you appreciate life and focus on what is really important to you. Well done and appreciated.
Those beautiful little children, and their instructors who died so senselessly! It breaks my heart; and during the Christmas holiday, which should be a happy time of yr for youngsters.
