The AGK is a great all-around knife. I use a small plastic/kydex sheath. I don't belt carry this knife. Add lanyard to sheath to attach to belt then - back pocket, clip on front pants pocket, cargo pants pocket,. Or, day pack, fanny ... I mean man waste pouch, etc. 90 degree spine is easy to do, if you want. Keep it cleaned. If you carry Vaseline and cotton balls they work perfect for adding a little oil to the clean blade edge to prevent rust. I use a scandi knife for wood prep. I don't like sap on my "camp" blade. Kinda ruins my coffee if I use it to stir with and A-1 tastes better on meat than turpentine from pine sap.
Great underrated indestructible knife!!!
Nice review. Thanks!!
My favorite ESEE is the Xancudo, I use it a lot for cleaning game. I’ve cleaned hundreds of ducks and geese with it, and it holds an edge very well.
Perfect little knife, love the finger guard wish more companies put em on their designs. I prefer a little bit bigger of a guard
Agreed!
I don’t really see the need for such a pronounced finger guard if it’s your skinning knife !
Cold steel
I was down at SMKW last weekend too sucks I didn’t get to run into you that would have been great absolutely love your videos thanks for all the amazing content over the years keep it up
I’d own every single Esee if my bank account would let me .
My bank account won't even let me own one.
Neither will mine. I own three.
@@utharkruna1116 Don't be poor.
Me too lol
They’re really not THAT expensive...
Just managed to pick one up for $79, it's great.
Esee was my first american knife purchase. I got a candiru and then a 5. I just picked up a microtech ultratech. Esee was like a gateway drug into knives.
I have many knives, the first one I grab when going out is my ESEE 6, with the jump sheath.
I would prefer to see horizontal carry sheath but that’s just me
It really reminds me of a nessmuk. Awesome blade
It's a lot like a Nessmuk. Good size for lots of things
This is what I wanted in the xancudo a great knife but the handle is just a little short.
The s35vn version may just be my next knife.
Hey man appreciate your videos. Very informative and descriptive.
I think it would be good for EDC, no?
The size is right for hunting but it's still MUCH too thick. A good skinning and dressing knife is a dedicated item, you carry another knife for other tasks.
My thoughts exactly
ESEE makes great knives! Just take a file to a spot on top/back of the blade to get a 90° edge and then you will be able to strike all the sparks that you want to. Problem solved. JMO.
Or just buy a striker and don’t ruin your knife. Tungsten Carbide strikers are much harder than steel, create more sparks more safely, without damaging your knife. There wasn’t a problem there initially to solve because a knife is a cutting tool and Ferro rods have always been made to be used with a striker. If you lose your knife you can now still light fires and if you lose your Ferro you still have a knife. The coating is on your knife to stop corrosion. Scrape it off and your knife will rust, especially as sparks will also ruin the coating. Don’t buy into this ridiculous UA-cam fashion that you have to scrape your Ferro rod with your knife. I have been using Ferro rods 40 years or so and it’s only in the last 9 or 10 years that people started using their knives to do it.
This is one of my favorite knifes, it's big enough for most jobs while being light weight. The blade is also the right size for me
I've had mine 2 months know it is remonesant of a kephart .love it
thank you sootchoo for the great awesome knife video!!! i am a big knife fan!!! keep up the great work!!!!
Zero zero.
I would like to see this knife in just a slightly smaller version.
I'd love to see this knife handling a nice for tanning. It looks great! I'm looking for a knife that my small arthritic hands can handle through an elk skinning. Thanks for review...I might just go for this one.
I realize this is quite old, but......I brain tan my hides and used this knife. The mini Nessmuk design with the long handle feels great, no real risk of poking holes in your hide. The handle may be long, but it's narrow enough that it won't feel large for you. I'm in the early stages of arthritis in my hands and it's much more comfortable than most of my other knives. However, do not get the 1095. This was my first skinner in 1095 and it's awful. The hide dulls it insanely fast and had to be touched up 2 or 3 times with every buck. I upgraded to the S35VN after that. Of course I've since upgraded again to magnacut (obviously not the AGK, which now stays in my truck with my backup hunting gear).
I like that knife. And I always carry a firesteel with a striker
That knife should spark great with the feral rod. What you need to do is take a grinder or a dremel and square up the edges on the back side of the knife. I've done that with my knives for survival works great
It's not a bushcraft knife.
@@silvermediastudio duh. . Do you listen to anyone when they say something. Do you understand what I said
@@allenbanks3280 It isn't a bushcraft knife.
@@silvermediastudio I know. Make things work better. If you don't have anything else. It could still save your life.
@@allenbanks3280 If you have *nothing* else, you fucked up a dozen or more decisions already, and it's unlikely you're suddenly going to become Baer Grillys with a Nassmuk and loin cloth.
SMKW my old stomping ground. Great store
Nice knife will check it out. I have a bench made that i use for field dressing . I also keep a Becker BK7 with me. That’s my fav bushcraft knife in the pack
Could you review the Buck Ground combat knife?
Use this on a deer. I'd like to know how to process one.
Great looking knife. Reminds me of the blade youd see on some granpas pocket knife.
SEAGK?
Good God man. I see this opening of you doing bushcraft with a knife meant very specifically for skinning. It's the perfect skinner being a mini Nessmuk design, particularly for those of us who keep the hides for brain tanning. I absolutely love the knife, but after 1 buck I quickly upgraded from 1095. You're wrong, the edge retention is awful and has to be touched up during the skinning 2 or 3 times depending on the size. The S35VN easily makes it through a buck without needing a touch up.
This lives inlmy pack for cleqning game and my backup to my Lazer Staike, not that it would ever need it. I also will throw thos in the bag if i dont feel like having the LS on my hip
Would this be good for cleaning and gutting fish also?
No there are better options
It would work if it’s all you had but better off picking up a SS fillet knife unless you’re skinning/scaling/gutting the fish only (Any pocket knife will do). I’d still go SS and keep in mind the micarta will absorb the fish odor.
My fav is the ESEE 5. :)
I love SMKW!
Not bad looking. The blade looks really close to a puma hunters pal imo.
Solid knife
I have all the esee camp lore knives there great camp and general task knives
Esee makes some great knives ; but for me this one is a miss.I much prefer a thinner blade stock for processing meat or field-dressing an animal. It looks like it would make a great little Camp knife though
nice one....
Very nice.
File the top 👌
Want to use it for fire-starting, take a file to it !
Nice
I have one and it works great for squirrels. It’s not really a busy craft knife it’s to clean game.
Bush*
Hell i like that.
Take a file to the spine , make it a sharp 90 degree
The only thing I would change is add some jimping to the back just above the handle
Esee knives
With every knife in the $100 to $200+ range , I'll pass
Boring
Cheap blade
Too much money!!!
