I used self tanning products in the past, but had to stop because they caused allergic reactions. Then again, that was when almost everything was causing itchiness ; I could hardly wear makeup, with my eyes stinging and watering. Since I found your channel, Dr. Dray, and started following your advice, I am so much better, and can wear makeup again. I am so very thankful to you! And I hope you realise what a huge service you are doing for people's well-being ! You not only helped my skin condition but also helped me feel better about myself. Sending you lots of love

Thank you Dr. Dray for always keeping us informed. I had never tried selfless tanner but wanted to try it to cover some scars on my legs. I usually do a patch test for anything new that I put on my skin, but for some reason I forgot and put on the Tanologist foam. My skin did not react well, I had a bad skin reaction to it. I still want to get a sunless tan but now I have to wait for my legs to heal. Make sure you don’t forget to do a patch test.

I think tanners from established companies have been well tested and are safe. I used a boutique tanner once from a Los Angeles spa. It had horse chestnut as one of its ingredients, and it made me so sick, I nearly took myself to the hospital. Buyer beware, especially when it's a product you're going to spread all over your body!

Never been in a tanning booth in my life, thank goodness. But I have been a long term user of self tanners, to take the neon blinking legs and arms to a tolerable level! Lol I appreciated you doing this video, and I will never be outside without my sunscreen.
Biggest tip I have for people using sunless tanning products, is to exfoliate before applying. I typically dry brush, then shower and after shower I apply the lotion and rub it in completely. This keeps the streaking and patchy look out of the equation.

Thanks so much for this info Dr. Dray. I’m a big fan of self tanning and an advocate for it. I used to be addicted to sunbeds when I was younger… 15 mins, 3 times a week and I was dark. The amount of times I burned was insane.. trying to sleep with the burn stinging… all just for a tan 🤦🏼‍♂️I can’t believe I did it but I was young & stupid. Now I self tan weekly, stay out of the sun as much as possible and now moisturising constantly so changed for the better. My skin is so much healthier and I hate seeing people go to the tanning beds but people will do what they want to do 🤷🏼‍♂️

Despite our climate and location on the globe we have the highest skin cancer cases. a flight to Mediterran is easy and cheap, 60euro. So people that love to spend 8 hours on the beach for two weeks. Im a former tanner, stopped tanning . We have regulations when its comming to DHA, and the biggest thing is that spray-tan is a threat to lungs due to the aerosols. An im so glad so hear that its safe on the skin. i was hesitent due to DHA eventually create oxidative stress. And that it offers protection 400 nm + . Thank you!

Dr. Dray, I have learned so much from you. I am now 53 and just started really caring for my skin 2 years ago. I am not big on makeup. Usually just my tinted sunscreen, a little blush and sadly color corrector and concealer that's not not only dark circles but bags. Anyway, I love self tanning. I used Bondi Sands for a long time but had such a hard times getting it off my toes and they I started getting patchy and looked like a leper. On my face, I've use Tanologist, St Tropez tanning luxe drops and St Tropez tanning water. I have had great luck with b.tan. They have all shades and ones with olive, violet and Carmel undertones. God please don't get the Minetan spray tan machine. Most horrific experience of my life. Mine tan and b.tan are combined somehow. I used to lay out for hours smothered in baby oil. Who knew we would suffer today with hyperpigmentation. I tried Bondi Sands gradual tanner and stunk like I self tanned every moment of the day. I do use the Bondi Sands overnight sleep mask and now I just had to order St. Tropez mousse and the Coco and Eve. I need use mousse on my face. Even Isle of Paradise is great. You can be darker by adding more drops. My friend bought the Norvell spray tan machine for her salon. I can't remember how many thousands of dollars she spent on it. I don't mind doing the foam though and no matter what I use, I have never had any transfer. Some stink more than others. I try to do it during the day. But for $10 at Walmart it works. And I usually use Too Tan To Give a Damn, but now they have I want the darkest tan possible. They do have something called b.tan forever and ever which is supposed to last 11 days but you have to apply every 3 days. I don't like to purchase from Walmart or drugstores. You don't know how long it's been on the shelf and their storage area is probably too warm for self tanners. You can go to www.minetan.com and click down to b.tan. They also offer a clean tan too. Since I am stuck with the sprayer,I might give the b.tan tanner. I think you get 20% off your first order and they have a huge selection. Also Sosu Dripping Gold is supposed to be superdark. I have yet to try that and never had any interest in Loving Tan. Oh I did order Bali Body mousse and face tanner. But I won't spend money on weekly spray tans.

Just for going somewhere nice, or to a beach). It is one that has color immediately so I can see where I have already applied. I remember the Coppertone sunless tanner when I was younger. It turned you a bit of an orange color. My friend was trying to get a "tan" before our senior prom (in 1975). She didn't realize she needed to wipe it off her palms! I’ve never used a tanning booth in my life. I had skin cancer for the first time in my life last summer that had to be removed. I’ve always slathered myself in sunscreen so that should tell everyone that it is helpful, but will not save you. This should also be a warning to others like me with medium/olive skin that you are not safe just because of your skin tone. Skin cancer is not only for individuals with fair complexions. Today I avoid the midday sun, and apply spf of 50 or higher no matter what. I’m constantly buying it but it’s a small price to pay to do what’s necessary. I started using Tanologists self tan drops that you mix into your moisturizer. They work well as long as you don’t use a moisturizer that’s too thick and you completely rub your moisturizer into your skin. I wish I had more patience to use the more advanced sunless products, but I’m too lazy for all of the prep that’s involved with those.

Love my sunless tanner, I am naturally a very fair red head, I also live in Australia, so I burn if I go in the sun for more than about 10 minutes in summer time, then I peel, so no point on trying to tan from the sun for me😆
I like the loving tan range, I also like the balibody 1 hour express mousse, and the balibody gradual face tan moisturizer, it's much more even in colour than any other face tanner I have tried.
I recently ordered the minetan blue Black which I am excited to try🙂

I've been a long time night shift worker of Scottish decent so I'm pale as they come :/ I LOVE Sunless tanners. My favorite for simplicity is jergens natural glow but I've just started using Bondi sands gradual tanning milk and it's amazing. Takes a couple more days to build up to that nice solid color (first 2 days it's kinda just clings to wrists and elbows) but it's longevity is amazing. And when I want to really put some effort in, I use Bondi sands 1 hour express or ultra day tanning foam. I'm constantly trying to get everyone on the Sunless tanning train. I have two friends who are addicted to tanning bads and laying out in the sun and it breaks my heart and stresses me out. They are so so dark it's scary.

Could you please comment on this 2018 study?
Quote: The Maillard reaction between DHA and amino acids generates reactive oxygen species (ROS), namely highly reactive free radicals,17 that may attack the cell structures and degrade collagen and elastin fibers, promoting premature skin aging and wrinkle formation. The process is accelerated under sun radiation, with more than 180 % additional radicals generated during sun exposure with respect to untreated skin, thus requiring short or no sun exposure when self‐tanners are used.18 It is also relevant here to notice how, when applied on the skin, a typical DHA‐based cream attenuates the sunlight‐induced formation of vitamin D.19
Owing to the formation of ROS, it is perhaps not surprising that DHA induces DNA damage.20 More recently, scholars in the US confirmed and expanded these results, showing that exposing viable cells to DHA significantly alters the cell microenvironment, promoting the induction of cell death, in particular through internal exposures from inhalation, absorption into mucous membranes, or through broken skin.21 The team concluded that more work is necessary to understand the complex metabolic events induced by exposure to DHA.

Hello from Belgium😀. Thanks for this informative video. I am 50 and an ex sunbed or sun user. Now I am just using extra dark selftaners. EU says that over 10% DHA selftaners could be toxic as they find some DHA results in urines and that DHA could cause lung cancer (threw the breath of the odor). True that none brands like to inform about the DHA %. I was using Sosu extra dark mouse and Loving tan extra dark, to hide my rosacea. It works perfectly I received compliments and everybody wanted to know what I have done. So easy, so nice, it brings back my self confidence. Due to the new EU rules, I can just use the medium one, and the coverage is not so good 😢. If I try to buy them threw international sites they are overpriced. This is soo stupid because as I wrote before they are helping a lot. With selftaners we have the same result in one night than a week-end in the sun! Evenmore it helps a bit against the sun damages. Keep informing us Dr 😀🙏.
