After we had been married for a while, and we bought the house we are in now, we invested in our "forever" furniture. We started with our couch (very well made with hand tied springs) and it is STILL in our family room today (28 years later- recovered of course. It is also a sleep sofa with a serta mattress.) We are also still using our solid maple dining table for our kitchen and we purchased well made furniture for our kids' rooms as well. We don't regret these purchases. The rest of our furniture are antiques inherited from family, and second hand pieces bought at antique stores!!

Girl!!! 🤣🤣🤣 That crate and barrel outlet!!! My mom and I took a trip down from Milwaukee a couple months ago because I had heard the crate & barrel outlet had really good prices on things like linens, curtains, etc... I heard outlet and thought it would be a good deal. We left with absolutely nothing! 🤣🤣🤣 That was definitely a waste of a day off for me. Glad you found some items that worked for you though!

Hi Tina, just an idea 💡think about Sharpe edges for down the lane if and when kiddies arrive, also storage that coffee table has none...also you could make it yourself for an outdoor patio area.
Hope you have better luck with SMEG than us our oven has never been right so next month I'm shopping for a new one. Loved the oak furniture, so warm and never goes out of style. Xxx

If you’re looking for legit MCM in the Chicago area, there are a *ton* of vintage/antique stores in the Fox river valley area (about an hour n a half from the Loop), specifically, The Rustic Fox in North Aurora (take interstate 88/290 from the loop, it’s right off the highway in North Aurora.) love them!
I live in China and I just realized that my plates are West Elm. I was able to find everything you showed in the video here and quite decently priced as well. I have to say Crate and Barrel and West Elm are my faves. We are moving into our new apartment next year and craving for some nice designer furniture rather than the ordinary options in IKEA. I would be interested in seeing more videos like this one.

OMG! I work like a 10 min walk from the RH in Gold Coast, and my close friend took me there for my birthday dinner two years ago right before the pandemic shut everything down! Im writing this from the lounge at work while I’m at lunch.
The stuff there is deff gorgeous but also so “I’m only ever gonna dream of having this in my home”

Tina, I have an old bed that I use as my sofa, it's a daybed but they didn't call them that years ago. It is close to one hundred years old. Investment pieces are definitely worth it.

@@tinalemac it's also heavy af. The frame is iron. The back however is carved wood in an arabesque design that was in fashion because everything Moroccan or arabesque was in fashion. It is thought that it was built in the early 1900's.

You should check out DWR - some awesome stuff there. Totally design forward, and def $$$, but worth checking out. Also Hay and EQ3.
I have wanting to go to HAY and actually had no idea EQ3 had a store in Chicago!! And Design Within Reach is also another one of those stores I pass by but never been to, so I must soon! Thanks so much for these suggestions 😇
@@tinalemac Hay/DWR and EQ3 are all just a few blocks apart. Super close to Crate and Barrel/CB2. Also in fulton market there is a new Herman Miller/Hay store, amazing stuff.

I went to the RH cafe before I moved out of Chicago ... so delicious and so gorgeous! I think I had grilled cheese too ... really want to go there for breakfast!

I recommend going to Room & Board. I went to their DC location, and found a coach that I plan on investing in. They have a Chicago location and an outlet in IL.
Interesting to hear your thoughts about these stores! The Leann Ford dresser is beautiful. I'm surprised CB doesn't have an outlet in the Chicago area.

do these high end store products actually have a better quality than lets say target for example? or is it just same quality furniture with a brand name? im genuinely curious
I think it depends on the brand, for example, Target carries some solid wood pieces at an affordable price but other pieces may be made with particle board and MDF. It definitely varies more on quality control as well! I always like to read reviews before deciding on what I purchase (: Great question!!

High quality large pieces but still not too high end, more $4k average for our sofas and 3.5k for dining room table+chairs but those will last a LONG time. I just can’t get over their prices - handmade or not I can find even cooler pieces with some
History and maybe need a little love and restore it to its former beauty from second hand treasures (wood pieces or reupholster projects)
One day I'll be able to afford high-end furniture. Until then I can watch other people buying it on UA-cam 😂

We bought our bed from West Elm. Guess what? I called them and told them that I was getting ready to spend $2000 on one of their beds and I asked them if they had a discount code that I could use. They gave me a $200 discount code. I was so happy! I couldn’t believe they did that for me. Great customer service! ❤️
RH gives me impression everything belongs in a concrete castle... for stuff like dining table, benches etc. you may consider to have one made for you by a local carpenter exactly how you want it. These pieces are something you'll have forever and any kind of repairs in the long run are much easier to do. Also you know where the wood is from and that the craftspeople were paid a living wage.

You have such good taste and are so artistic, so maybe you could explain to me the allure of all those whites and neutrals you are buying. Don't you like colors or patterns? Something to make your home seem unique, and not like all the other Magnolia clones? I don't want to sound mean, but as an artist myself, all those bland boring shades are almost offensive. I wish you luck and happiness in your lovely new home, but I wish you would spice it up a bit.

In the end, your home would have been a study in BOHO decor that was rags to riches. If you start with riches, where is there to go?
