I found a vintage lunchbox at , i heard a crumbling noise like paper when i touched it, i thought maybe the inside was deteriorating but I loved it so much that i bought it anyway. When i brought it home i found $260 inside a secret pocket
That's cool I never found secret money! But I did find a man's leather bracelet in a bedroom end table on the curb as trash. I opened the drawer, and it was black leather and what looked like gold notches all around it ever inch. Sure enough I went home it was stamped 750 which is 18k gold in Europe. It's broke on side, but an easy jewelry glue fix it came out of the clasp holding it. P.S. now it's in my bedroom end table broke, lol.
@@LizaLavolta i know right, the irony of it is that it actually is sitting in my end table broke still, cause I know a jeweler is gonna want like $100 to fix it then i gott try and sell it on poshmark, lol!! its just cool i found something valuable, lol in the trash which i will always pick no matter how rich i get,and no I didnt get there yet.🤣🤣🤣
I met a really cool gal in Goodwill last night. She saw my cart and was intuitive enough to spot a "newbie". She helped me put back and spot deals... BUT BEST OF ALL, she directed me to you!! ❤❤❤❤
Newbie here too! As such, I have tons of "vintage" jewelry which is not exactly vintage. Wish we all had a gal like that to point us in the right direction! Until then, we have this lovely lady! Thank you for such useful comments-helps us all distinguish between quality/designer and, other. Lol
The pier that you found that you were looking for five years Dr. Laurie had just mentioned about a piece last night that she had seen and some other shop up in New England state somewhere there on her show last night I think you’re you’re very well educated on your knowledge on antiques I’ve done antiques most of my life, and You’re very very well knowledgeable on stuff. I was more into the furniture and the but I did it also for myself.. but I think you got a lot of nice deals. I just can’t believe the price and how much things have gone up. I haven’t done it in like 10 years at least. 15 I know.
I'm not a reseller. I'm 69 so a lot of the things you collected came from my youth. I am very impressed with your education of the pieces. I recognized many items from my past and had to laugh at the value. FYI the see through frog was used as a soap or sponge holder by a sink. To be honest I aways thought those frog or owl porcelain pieces were ugly decorative items. But for years I kept the 'made in China' pieces my mother had received with flowers in them after giving birth. My mother would have said the same thing, so I understand the draw. In my youth I was a potter. I really love that you placed high value on the artists and their work. I thoroughly enjoyed your video. I've been decluttering because I've downsized to a very small space, but those collectable items draw me in. I wish I had been a reseller of vintage items. Thank you for the fun ride.
Beverly, you know those wall organizers that hold cups and saucers? I installed one and put fun things up on it, like a cranberry glass small pitcher and a couple vintage elephants. Oh! I bet you'd love this one piece: look up Triple Self Portrait: Norman Rockwell. He's seated and painting himself and looking in a mirror. So cool! 😅 Which pieces did YOU keep for yourself?
You and I are sympatico! Hated the cheap owls and frogs. And don't forget the @#@%^ MUSHROOMS! I'm 72 and also decluttering. In the end, it's all just stuff.
There are hundreds of UA-camrs who put out thrifting content, but you're the only one I watch because it's actually informative and interesting with your voiceover comments! I really can't get enough. Sometimes, I'll save a video to watch on a bad day because it'll make me feel better. Thank you for making these Laura!!!
It would be really valuable to do a follow-up video with the actual realized profit (money in hand), I love these videos and watch many other thrifters too, but I suspect many are also aspirational figures of anticipated profits; yes, these are the prices at Amazon, etc. but how much do people really fork over? To keep it real, it would be great if those who do these videos do a follow-up where they compare what the hoped-for profit was and what the actual one is, if that makes sense. I know I'd love to see that. You have a great eye and congrats on all of the great finds
Thankfully I have the most amazing and wonderful clientele and am able to sell my items for what I estimated each month during my First Friday vintage drop on my website www.leftcoastrevivals.com Can’t speak for other vintage shop owners ❤️ As I mention at the end of the video it took a decade of building up to this but I only value an item at what I am confident I will be able to list and sell it for ❤️
Yup! You hit the nail on the head. I am also a seller and to get that kind of actual figure takes a lot of time. The actual profit on the investment may take days, weeks, months, even a year to see (that is if it even sells)..so I'm sure these figurative values are "expected returns" and not "made in 1 day" The turn-around time to sell these things vary..Not to mention the amount of labor put in
Projected profit VS actual profit are totally different. We all tend to over value what we believe something is worth vs what someone else is willing to pay for it 😳it would be helpful for you to do maybe once a month recap on what you actually take in on your sales. Please include the WoW price and the 😩 price. Then you would really be the coach to others you wish to be. Otherwise you are just advertising yourself. Thank you 🙏
I feel like that when I watch Antique Road Show, I think yeah, it's only worth what you can get a buyer to pay. I mean I've had nice items before that I know are worth $x but trying to sell anything these days is hard. I just don't see it myself.
@Geraldine She probably picked up items she thought looked like something worthy, but edited out the ones that weren't after doing thorough research to find which ones were valuable. Otherwise, to have that sort of random knowledge on the whim... she would do better on Jeopardy show. Its editing and voice over certain things she kept for the final edit, I mean.... 11 stores!
Hello from the UK Laura! I was sorry you didn't pick up the $2 single cristal candle holder.....some people like to display a wide selection of candle holders around the house or as a display on tables or the fireplace mantel.......I think you can sell them as an eclectic bundle. I'm sure someone will appreciate them! ❤
@@lauraschroeder8177 , often was lands in a thrift shop are items that come from estates, so people pass away, the either have no children or immediate family who want any of the items or their immediate family doesn't want to sort through a lot of things and just donate entire homes full of everything you can think of. Then there are people who do just amass a lot and then donate a lot so they have room to keep buying new things.
@@finewine8886 amount of things parents owned could have been too much for children. Two of my friends had that situation. When their mothers passed, they had to deal with grief and tons of stuff. It was just too much at some point. They both just gave up at some point and donated stuff they had no strength to go through and decide.
@@signorigna3009 yep I get that. I am that mum in a way. I am being ruthless this year, and paring down my tat. After a recent sad loss, we packed her life belongings down in less then one day. She was a minimal lady bless her. Mine would take my daughter a looong time. Wish me luck this coming year lol. I attach to to objects, so I need my practical game head on 😁
Tip for getting wax out of candles- stick it in a freezer for an hour. It will pop right out. No wax residue or very little and makes it easy to get what’s left out.
As a former smoker and genuine mid-century modern human, I am pretty confident that your owl was NOT made as an ashtray. It may have been used as one, but real ashtrays had notches or little tiny trays to hold your cigarette while you drank alcohol. As a person who lived through the owl craze of the early 1970s, my guess is it was a planter since it’s open on both sides. I love your enthusiasm and upbeat attitude. It’s a treat to watch you and I will be subscribing. I hope you’re based in Canada because the prices you’ve mentioned seem rather high and I live about 50 miles from Washington DC, which I know is expensive.
She says at the beginning of the video she's in the Pacific Northwest. I think she said the Seattle area. Very rich area. Where I live, in the Midwest, you wouldn't get half those prices, in person. Maybe if you're selling on line.
From her wording about all of the items she's putting in her basket, she alludes to having sold many of the same items before at the prices she mentions. If she has an online store, there are definitely people out there who will pay. Just an anecdote here. When I first started doing clients hair I would be self-conscious about charging what I was worth until an older seasoned co-worker told me more than once "don't spend other people's money. You don't know what they can spend". He was absolutely right.
Just found you today!! I love watching & listening to your knowledge on what to look for !! Amazing. Loved your story on how you got started too. Enjoyed this so much. 💕
The key is living somewhere where there is a great selection. It looks like your stores are loaded. Also a tip for people reading this comment. Your best selection will be at non corporate local thrift stores. 😉
My Mom just shared this video with me, and now I am a new subscriber. We have been selling vintage for about 20yrs. in a local flea market. It so gets in your genes! I absolutely love the hunt. I look for more 40's-50's vintage girly glam collectibles, but I like a lot of your finds today also. Thank you for all the great information!
11 thrift stores in one day!? ELEVEN!!! Respect 🙌🏾. I can barely do 3 before feeling like I’m about to die 😂. But again, I tend to wander in every aisle 😅
When I go to goodwill I'm there from the time they open to the time they close and I need to hurry at the end. My husband brings me lunch. I shop just for myself 😄
The mauve vase is from a company called Zanesville out of Ohio. They had a lot of teal and, later, that pink glaze. It's characterized by a thick glaze, often with firing flaws like poors and some crazing. They are never signed because the original owner said they were so famous they didn't need to be stamped or signed. I collect the teal/blue green pieces. This rose color is lovely!
I really enjoyed the shopping trip on here today. We just spent two weeks at the coast and thought of you. We went to our favorite Yachats, then down in Gold Beach which is a new area for us. We took a couple of days in the redwoods as well. I learned from a dealer that the craftsmen making pieces out of myrtle wood are dying off and becoming scarce. I noticed a decline since the last time we were in southern Oregon more than a decade ago.
Im from Australia & new to yr channel im a 57 yrs young hippy I love how informative you are, you truly know yr stuff, you did great & i like the value you put on peoples handcrafted goods, i handcraft a lot of items myself & they are usually worth more than we make & id love to see you style the items you bought, its always nice to see how someone else would do it 😊 I only wish we had as many cool thrift stores as you guys do on yr side of the world 🌎
Lol! I'm can't lie, watching your video only opened my eyes to shop at thrift stores versus shops like you own online. Seeing how much you hike the prices up, I'll gladly stick to getting my decor at thrift shops. Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of respect for your knowledge of these items!!
Don’t forget the packing. To assure nothing breaks, and shipping fees, equipment you have to buy to start printer, computer etc. Then researching the product to get the whole knowledge you find .
Born and raised Oregonian. 77yrs. Also grew up in large family. I love watching Laura because she is authentic original style Oregonian. Humble sweet natured. Really cute sense of humor. Honest and straight forward. Not at all what I call a "camera junkie". (Some somewho is on camara more than the items!) The fact that she specializes in a price range that average person can afford but still upgrade your decor is really special. Her health of knowledge impresses me every time. And her suggestions and advice.. price less. What a doll. Being "with her" almost makes me want to move back to Oregon.
This brings back memories. When I would drag my two young ones and a 3rd in a backpack to garage sales on Saturday and then to flea markets on Sunday. They loved it and my son still wears a gold pendant that we got during that time. Lady said she would sell it to us for 25 cents if he would wear it. That was 45 years ago.
Your knowledge of art and pottery is amazing. The ability to spot a designer piece at a glance is invaluable for your purposes. I like that you have a " lane " and you stay in it, in that you are honed in on what you sell rather than a scattered approach. It takes practice to achieve focus like that. Amazing haul. I am crushing on that sterling silver cuff bracelet. So pretty. I would not be able to part with it. At least not right away☺️.
My dream shopping trip: Exactly what you did in one day! I love the silver cuff and the turquoise ring. I collect all kinds of vintage Catholic artwork, jewelry and books. I lean toward English transfer ware and traditional, more cottage looking dishes. Also love fish pottery and hand painted dishes and beachy but not over the top. I collect blue and white dishes which are fun to mix and match. Aw hell, who am I fooling. I love everything and am a sucker for markdowns! Loved your video and will be sure to get notified of future shows! Happy thrifting! ❤
I so respect that you share how much you pay and your shop price. The info you share has got to be so helpful to other resellers. AND I admire how gentle you are with everything you touch…so respectful. I’m afraid you’ve ruined me for all other thrifters!!!
She takes such good care of laying them in her cart. My goodness, this shows how much care she gives her products and cares for her stock in the same way.
Thanks so much. Was hoping you might do something like this. Would love to see second part of your business - researching, description writing, photography process, loading to website, how you store before selling and shipping tips. Love watching your adventures and sharing your process.
Agreed, I am fearful of shipping fragile items, but I so love finding these beauties and I know others will appreciate owning them! We have many places to hunt in SoCal.
@Tara Johnson I totally agree that this would be really helpful. I am at a stage where I sort of know what to look for, but I’m not actually sure how to make the sales. There are tons of platforms where a reseller could list their items, but as far as I can tell they all have their pros and cons. I don’t necessarily know how to make my listings stand out or how to best determine a reasonable, but still profitable listing price. I definitely have a lot to learn but there’s so many thrift stores in my area and I’m really hoping to turn reselling into my side income. I really love seeing all the unique items in thrift stores and hunting for treasures. Laura and I have a very similar style and I would pick up almost all the same things as her! I absolutely love her content 💕
I’m so happy I found your channel today. I watched the entire episode because you didn’t waste my time showing me dozens of pieces that are chipped, cracked or useless. I felt informed and entertained. I am not a reseller so I admire those that can do this. Thank you
How did you learn all the different names in ceramics, furniture, jewelry, etc.? Can you recommend some books or blogs? Also, how do you know what your customers are buying and what's trending? NYU used to have an amazing online certificate in appraising, but sadly no more. Recommendations and reading lists are welcome!
Hey Laura! At your 11:02 mark you showed a glass candle holder and I almost fell off my chair! I was just at my thrift shop and saw that exact one with a matching smaller dish. I would have had no idea it was valuable unless I watched your video. I went today to pick it up and it was half price! I hope to sell it and make as much as you did!
@Linda-un6xm That's because the staff didn't pick out the pieces they wanted. Had a friend that used to work at the GoodWill. She said how when the donations came in. The staff would pick and select the "good stuff." The junk left over, that went on the floor.
These are amazing Thrift stores - where I live (in Canada) they are all ridiculously expensive now, incl. any Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. Apparently, it's BECAUSE of the upselling business online they have hiked prices to where there's no thrift at all. I went looking for a large glass beer mug $6! & a replacement bedside lamp - no lamps under $25. Insane. Few years ago I met someone who had worked in these stores & she said the staff always took the expensive pieces or worth anything!
I agree Kay. I've visited many goodwills in various states. Never have I ran across this kind of quantity of great vintage finds, most everything of any value at Goodwill now is behind glass and priced very high.
@@lindawales2394 Yes there is very little thrift in the thrift stores anymore. The only kind of places I can find decent fair priced clothing is at St. Vincent de Paul and other (usually church related) local community places. Covid killed the best one we had locally where everything was either 20 cents or 50 cents for coats. Don't think it will be back. Sometimes yard sales can have good finds but those are hit and miss and you need to put a lot of effort into it. I am too old to do that anymore. I just shop at regular stores now for the most part.
@@Ellecram I use a combination of sources and I always find too much. I oy use thrift stores for certain things. Each store has different things ow priced. For example; one has purses cheap, others have cheap housewares, others in my area get donations from high priced department stores. I sell them new without box. Other things I buy at normal retail stores on sale. Seasonal sales are good...but most of the time then I need to store them. They sell faster online so I have to think small for storage. I have learned which stores discount deeper. I purchased a expensive $200. Plus full length coat with fir Hoodie on vacation in a much warmer climate . Although that didn't sell WELL in the warm climate it sells well in my much harsher northern sub- Artic climate. Understanding yrenfs is also important. Many families are going to minimized life styles. unnike a decade ago when clutter was selling. In this instance ( now) only highly collectibles were selling. Also highly usable items sell well such as housewares. High quality housewares such as stainless steel items. Sell well. Walmart USED to have great sales...now not so much. I like to make ate least 4-5xs my investment. $4.00 =$20 sales. I adjust that according to the venue I am selling from. Some have more backroom costs. So I can adjust my costs to make a profit. For example, on classy sights I will sell jewelry in a jewelry box., others I send out items wrapped in a small bubble wrap with a postal envelope. In my area I get many collectibles free by " curb shopping" or "rummage sales" Don't ignore poorer neighborhoods. Many times the " minimalistic children" throw out many " valuable collectable" items. I found London fog suitcase. It was stained from use. I washed it, put a scotch guard on the outside, and sold a $150. LIKE NEW item for $90. I sterilized it AND THEY PAID SHIPPING. MY BIGGEST PROBLEM IS GETTING AND HAVING TOO MUCH STUFF TO SELL. I AM 68.
Hi Laura, today was the first time I happened upon your channel and I am already hooked. I LOVE what you are doing. I want to see more about getting started, and staging of items, photography of items etc. Thank you for your vlog. You now have another new fan.
I'm a year and some months into reselling, so I'm miles away from getting full retail value for my picks. What a haul in this episode! Yes, I definitely would have been drawn to so many of your finds, I just can't afford so many of them yet. I've learned so much following you. And what struck me today was that white bisque looking vase. I never would have given it a second look. Your knowledge is invaluable. Love your channel ❤️
First, your last question… Yes! Please do a design episode, that would be so incredible to see. As far as what you picked out. I’m new to all this. I loved everything you shared with us. You know your staff and your passion for what you do shows in many ways. I have several items in my home that I cherish since I was in my early 20s and now in my 70’s, it goes to show you… What really counts are the things you cherish not things that are trendy… and that will only disappear in a year or two. I want my items to stay with me until the end of my demise, because I would love to pass “My Staff” onto my family. Time will tell.. 💕
While searching for DIY ideas. this video popped up and I am so thankful that I did. It's not your typical thrift store shopping adventure - it is so much more. It was actually fun going through the stores with you as you explained so well each every item you picked up. It's perfect for what I have been wanting to do but didn't really know how to start. Thank you for sharing your ideas, know-how, tips,... Can't wait to see what's next.
I truly adore this type of video! It is so interesting to see how much you pay for items in comparison to how much you can get for them. You are so enthusiastic...you make this world of vintage super exciting. Keep these "kinds" of videos coming, please!!!
I buy up all the cheap cloth napkins I can find at yard sales and take them with me in a bag to wrap things up in. I probably have a few hundred napkins. They work great!
I am TOTALLY diggin this video and hope you do more like this! As a reseller I know I could learn a TON from you. You have such a unique style and have the best thrift stores. Also, I can not get enough of your mid century knowledge.
Yes by all means do a part 2. The best part of your shows is seeing how you use your special talent and put into design all the wonderful pieces hand picked by you. I do see something that I would like to purchase and can hardly wait for Friday to come!
I am healing from elbow surgery, 12 staples removed today, wire & pins still in. But I’m grateful for healing and love seeing your lovely smiley face! ❤️
Wow. Just came across your page and now I’m a subscriber. Lol I love thrifting and your passion for not just the dollar value but the true beauty and craft of the items is amazing. Very inspiring. I’m headed to the thrift store now!
Love this new idea, it’s so interesting to hear wha the items are in terms of where they’re from, who made them, the era, you’ve amassed an incredible knowledge base Laura. Would love more of these scattered in.
At least not right away️.
I have always enjoyed your videos but this one is my favorite so far. I do also enjoy your decor suggestions and staging. I wish our Goodwills were as nice as yours. Please keep up the wonderful work.
I have just watched this to the end and when you were speaking about how you started, selling to dealers and it was so refreshing to hear someone tell it how it is. We are Vintage dealers in Cornwall UK in our 13th year and go to Europe buying The cleaning, sorting, research and funding is so much work but we love it and our customers. People often say they'd love our job but I always suggest as a hobby it's a lot less of a worry !! Let's face it every purchase is a gamble. We're thrilled to discover your channel and you've been great Netherlands research for our Feb 25 trip. Take care xx
The hard part about this for me would be that I have an eye for things *I* like, but I’m not sure what other people like or would buy. And my taste isn’t that popular these days. This looks so fun though. I used to flip furniture and that was fun until I moved in an area where no one wanted to buy my refurbished pieces for more than I bought them.
Same here or sometimes my daughters need a particular something for the new look in their home. They will come over to find the perfect piece they needed.
Well said. I think the majority of “thrifters” and garage salers are actual hoarders, in different degrees. It is definitely an addiction to find a deal and then another and another. I limit both activities because of that.
I really enjoyed your video because you take the time to explain an item, what it can be used for and I really like that you give the price, how much you will sell it for and if you are keeping it. I watch a lot of storage locker purchases, dumpster diving and just started watching thrifting videos. Yours is truly the best. Please keep doing these videos.
The prices in trift shops there are so awesome and worth it ! Here in the UK charity shops price the products almost the same as a regular shop 😫 And your shops are huuuuge! Amazing!
Laura you are amazing! This video shows everyone just how much work goes into what you do. Even though I believe you have a blast doing this it's really a full time job. I'm so Happy for you that you have worked your way to the top in vintage selling, you deserve it! Also know that you make money from your UA-cam videos, but again, you deserve it because the content is so GREAT & I'm always learning something from you. Hugs& blessing from Texas 🦋❤
What an amazing adventure you have been on!! So much hard work through the years of research, knowledge, building your photography skills, etc. I love your aesthetic!! Love the encouragement you give to others who might be just starting out. I am starting out after a traumatic brain injury with vintage, clothes, accessories, millinery. Would love to watch a design episode with all these treasures you have sourced. Thank you for sharing!!
OMGosh! Good for you!!! I'm helping my daughter who also had a TMI and subsequent lifetime of seizures which really affects her memory! Blessings to you for a successful journey 🤗
I also have have a truamatic brain injury and am no longer able to work. I love going to thrift shops and would really like to do something like this on a smaller scale, but don't have much knowledge about what is valuable and so many thriftstore around here closed due to covid. Right now I have been making jewelry and will see how that goes for now, but I started looking for pieces I like when in thrift stores.
When it’s curated it’s worth your time because those who can’t envision need the presentation. Love the silver bangle I’d be keeping that one myself too. I’m not a vintage reseller but as an interior designer I do thrift to get unique pieces to finish the space and stay within budget
Your editing was to the point and I appreciated that within the first item found forward. You nailed it when you pointed out steady panning so that we may get a clear pause to look over the shelves ourselves. I immediately have to ditch channels who can't provide this because frustration is the last thing I want in this kind of content. You have a magnificent eye and even the few pieces I couldn't find attractive, their resell value was understandable. All in all I have to say that you've pretty much perfected in this [sadly] one-off video what 95% of well intending channels base their Entire Content on! You're the very definition of what happens when professionalism and labor of love come together in a well suited, if not hard earned and well deserved, successful career. Awkward sentence construct aside~ Thank You!
I like how you stay on topic no drifting and a lot of filler that is so annoying when people yammer on to fill air time! Your videos are informative you don’t spend 20 min on one item love the format keep it up!
I'm from the PNW, currently living in Portland. I love that you give extra info. I grew up in a family owned 2nd hand shop, and have always loved thrift shopping. I typically look for things I can diy and use for my art.
I'm so excited to find your channel! The time you take describing each piece is wonderful! I love your style and look forward to watching more of your episodes. I can see you doing a television show in the future!
Laura is my favorite! Darling, authentic personslity and knows what she is talking about. Very impressive. And the best thing? Well, two best things: pleasant voice and she IS NOT A CAMERA JUNKY. Oh, and congrats on such a great day.
Anyone who collects also designs so yes, you MUST design. That should increase your viewership too (Is that a word or did I just "design" one?) Your personality and commentary contribute to the viewing. I haven't been thrifting for years and this was so much fun for me! Good entertainment for free! Thankyou.
I dont do thrifting but its tru she makes me happy seeing how excited she gets for this amazing items she actually makes me wanna start doing this ❤ when i feel sad i find her video and watch her sje is amazing 😍
I am amazed by the prices at your Goodwills. I live in Austin, TX, and prices are HIGH! A simple white planter is $7 and a coffee cup (just regular coffee cup) is $5. Such an interesting video. I had no idea that Native American items were so popular in the north west.
Always fun “shopping” with you Jen! Phone running out of juice? If I were you, I’d carry a small battery backup. The one I bought from Marshall’s (Lux brand?)a few months back is excellent and will give me power on the go and then if I’m not using the phone, it will power my phone up totally within 2-3 hours with some extra to boot. It gives the phone strong power on the go. The only thing is to use a short power cable so that you don’t have all that extra cable hanging around. Then you need to remember to recharge the battery pack as soon as possible so that it’s ready for the next time.
I love seeing your finds. I’m shying away from breakables. But I get empty boxes from the liquor store with the cardboard dividers and keep one in the car, just in case.
Wow, loved watching all 11 Goodwills and other Thrift stores. Im just starting selling my Vintage treasures. For rhe last almost 30 yrars Ive gone thrifting, accumulated so much. Ive had yard sales, sold at Flea markets and now finally started on Ebay and want to start You Tube. I know I have to be patient, but watching you and others guves me the confidence. And yes definately do the design episode. I, also was in Real Estate for last 7 years. Did some staging and took Interior design years ago, so I love that too!!❤❤
Laura love your videos and the depth of knowledge you have of mid century items. Love your spirit and the joy you exhibit when finding treasures. I would love to thrift with you!❤️
I'm so impressed with your knowledge of brands, ages, and artiists' names--that Sanborn!!! Since you grab so many wonderful BREAKABLE items, may I make a suggestion? If these stores have the smaller hand shopping baskets, could you add one inside your large cart so your treasures have less room to "wander" and possibly fall?
As a very picky jewelry lover...💘 that silver bracelet was the best find of the day!!! IMO....So jealous!😅 Congratulations on a wonderful find. I call first dibs if you ever decide to sell it to the perfect person. 😍💫💖💫
Thank You Laura for this great video. I have been wanting to get into reselling for a long time. I am a huge fan and also watch other thrifters and resellers. I definitely would love to see a design episode. I’ve already learned so much from you. Great finds btw.
I’ve been a thrifter for a long time, long before it was popular & I’ve seen such a shift in the products for sale. In my area the things are very junky & even the junk is very high priced so I’ve lost the joy in going ! Happy you still find good things, it also makes a difference that you have a store front. Good hunting!!
Am I the only one who instantly thought, “don’t let the spirit loose” when she was opening the sealed vase?! 🫣 Anyway, this was the first video of yours that I have come across. I’m a beginner potter and loving your knowledge of pottery and art! New subscriber here. ❥
After seeing this video .. I had to subscribe coz you’re the only UA-camr I’ve watched with sooooo much details about the items you’re picking up. I learned sooo much just in this video. I can’t wait to watch the rest of your videos. Thanks for doing what you do🙏🏼🥰
I loved todays vlog so very much. Your knowledge of the different items was really fun to hear. I’m interested, how long did it take you to feel so comfortable with your purchases? Just to see you pick up a item, know who made it, it’s value, and to see a vision of where a buyer can use it astounds me. The safe keeping of the big glob of glue was really funny! I just love your style Laura!
@@leftcoastrevivals I am brand spankin’ new at this whole concept of resale. I usually donate or share. This way I can add a little jingle to my empty pocket without feeling guilty. Thank you for helping me see that I can be wise and honest while still helping others.
Thank you for the encouragement! I started an Etsy shop a year ago and sell on Mercari too, basically just items in my attic that were handed down to me, or items of mine I no longer want. I think I would get into trouble buying to sell and end up with too much inventory, but maybe someday. My shops have done well but selling is a rollercoaster. I get such a high when my treasures are selling but get discouraged when they are not. Plus many people in my life don't understand, or are not interested in my shops so it is nice to watch you being so enthusiastic! I do believe, like you, that what you put in is what you get out. Thank you for inspiring us!
I found a vintage lunchbox at , i heard a crumbling noise like paper when i touched it, i thought maybe the inside was deteriorating but I loved it so much that i bought it anyway. When i brought it home i found $260 inside a secret pocket
Cool
That's cool I never found secret money!
But I did find a man's leather bracelet in a bedroom end table on the curb as trash. I opened the drawer, and it was black leather and what looked like gold notches all around it ever inch. Sure enough I went home it was stamped 750 which is 18k gold in Europe. It's broke on side, but an easy jewelry glue fix it came out of the clasp holding it. P.S. now it's in my bedroom end table broke, lol.
THAT IS WILD

Wow that's awesome
Newbie here too! As such, I have tons of "vintage" jewelry which is not exactly vintage. Wish we all had a gal like that to point us in the right direction!
Until then, we have this lovely lady!

15 I know.
Going to thrift stores it’s gonna break you that’s for amateurs😮lol
Am just watching this fun video and must confess I am loving that you are adding what your sales prices will probably be...So very helpful to me ❤
I'm not a reseller.
Maybe the owl holds a sponge and a scrubber by the sink
Beverly, you know those wall organizers that hold cups and saucers? I installed one and put fun things up on it, like a cranberry glass small pitcher and a couple vintage elephants. Oh! I bet you'd love this one piece: look up Triple Self Portrait: Norman Rockwell. He's seated and painting himself and looking in a mirror. So cool! 😅
Which pieces did YOU keep for yourself?
@@Jennifr1966I just looked up Triple Self Portrait! Love it.
So expensive just for walking 1 day
You and I are sympatico!
Totally agree with everything you said!
Me too, Laura don't sell the Robert Sperry piece you found. Jerri
I'm afraid no one would buy it
@@whatwherewhen3685 Yeah right,it wouldn't last a few hours listed, hell I'll buy it right now!! Lol
i just found you today, really enjoyed watching. i like the fact that you do a voiceover instead of trying to talk over the music and noise.
Be careful and always check the back of any picture frames for signs of Bed Bugs. Look for dark brown/black polka dot stains.
Good tip!!
Having UA-cam channel for advertisement and buyers plus her own website makes it happen for her! Not for most of us.
A huge part of making money from thrifted items is having an eye for items people will want. You have great style!
Yes, I agree with you.
I guess my style sucks becuz I wouldn't pay much more than what she did for the pieces she found. 🙊
@@maguadalupehernandez3227 Well she's also an appraiser (if not she should be). That definitely helps as well.
Yes and knowing those things are actually expensive
I'm amazed at the things people throw or give away. Truly one man's trash is another man's treasure 🙃❤
America is very wealthy. I can't believe the stuff people get rid of!!
@@lauraschroeder8177 , often was lands in a thrift shop are items that come from estates, so people pass away, the either have no children or immediate family who want any of the items or their immediate family doesn't want to sort through a lot of things and just donate entire homes full of everything you can think of. @@finewine8886 amount of things parents owned could have been too much for children. Two of my friends had that situation. When their mothers passed, they had to deal with grief and tons of stuff. It was just too much at some point. They both just gave up at some point and donated stuff they had no strength to go through and decide.

Tip for getting wax out of candles- stick it in a freezer for an hour. It will pop right out. No wax residue or very little and makes it easy to get what’s left out.
That's what I do. Then next I microwave a bit of boiling water and swish it around and then wipe it quickly while the wax is melted.
Thanks for the tip!
Worthy reading the comments for the tips! Thank you.
I went to 3 thrift stores yesterday, and all 3 carried mostly used clothes and overpriced junk. One was a Goodwill stores, but the other 2 were not
As a former smoker and genuine mid-century modern human, I am pretty confident that your owl was NOT made as an ashtray.
I believe the owl is used for sponges at the kitchen sink. It’s like the sponge frogs from the ‘70’s
@@christinajohnston7372Definitely. We had one in our kitchen.

Goodwill here in Florida suddenly think they are Sotheby’s sister. Nothing worth thrifting for. Shame. I don’t even bother anymore.
Yep. I was shocked. They are charging more than retail on many items.

I really enjoyed the shopping trip on here today. We just spent two weeks at the coast and thought of you. We went to our favorite Yachats, then down in Gold Beach which is a new area for us.
In my area I get many collectibles free by " curb shopping" or "rummage sales"
Don't ignore poorer neighborhoods.

People often say they'd love our job but I always suggest as a hobby it's a lot less of a worry !! Let's face it every purchase is a gamble. We're thrilled to discover your channel and you've been great Netherlands research for our Feb 25 trip. Take care xx
I think it’s great that you share your knowledge about it all…from how you got started to are your great pieces! Thank you!
Happy to share ❤️
The hard part about this for me would be that I have an eye for things *I* like, but I’m not sure what other people like or would buy. And my taste isn’t that popular these days. This looks so fun though. I used to flip furniture and that was fun until I moved in an area where no one wanted to buy my refurbished pieces for more than I bought them.
Your enthusiasm is very contagious, even for shut ins. Gla I hitched a ride with you. I'm 68 years and felt so alive with your youthfulness. 🎉😊❤❤
Although I love what she did, but this is how the hoarder problem starts with me :)
Lol yeah. If I like it enough to buy it, I'm keeping it!
Same here or sometimes my daughters need a particular something for the new look in their home. They will come over to find the perfect piece they needed.
Glad I'm not the only one
Well said. I think the majority of “thrifters” and garage salers are actual hoarders, in different degrees. It is definitely an addiction to find a deal and then another and another. I limit both activities because of that.
Me too lol!!!
Laura, you hit it out of the park with your great vintage finds.❤
I like how you stay on topic no drifting and a lot of filler that is so annoying when people yammer on to fill air time! Your videos are informative you don’t spend 20 min on one item love the format keep it up!
I'm from the PNW, currently living in Portland. I love that you give extra info. I grew up in a family owned 2nd hand shop, and have always loved thrift shopping. I typically look for things I can diy and use for my art.
I'm so excited to find your channel! The time you take describing each piece is wonderful! I love your style and look forward to watching more of your episodes. I can see you doing a television show in the future!
You found so many wonderful items. I never thought to go to pawn shops. I am going to add to my thrift trips.
Thanks!
That should increase your viewership too (Is that a word or did I just "design" one?)
Your personality and commentary contribute to the viewing. I haven't been thrifting for years and this was so much fun for me! Good entertainment for free! Thankyou.
Every time I go thrifting, I will see something and say "Laura would love this!' I have your style burned into my brain. Love everything you pick!
You have got to be kidding me.
Native American art is extremely popular nationwide!
@carltonthepug I am in southeastern NC and you certainly don’t see Native American art like that here. 🙄
Did some staging and took Interior design years ago, so I love that too!!❤❤
I liked your haul. For me, thrift stores are way too expensive now but you are making good profit. Nice job.
I Agree, thrift stores are crazy pricing, especially ones that don't have special discount days are so over packed because of the high pricing
AWESOME treasures. Always love the handthrown pottery. Style 'em up, Laura!
I think your bird carved from wood might of came off coocoo clock. Nice job. Very Informative and entertaining. Thanks
Thank you! I can not stop smiling. I love the shopping and you and your sweet husband are a blast👍❣
I'm laughing because this has been me for 40 years and my family all laugh at me. And you just remind me of me :)
Laura YOU are ONE of a Kind!!! Love to see you have so much passion for what you do!!! 🎉❤
😘

I am brand spankin’ new at this whole concept of resale.
I like that you pick up vintage items that you know that your BUYERS would like, even if it's not something that you would like. 😉
Add my vote to create a design episode with these items. You are a gifted designer and we all enjoy seeing the way you stage such treasures.
I ❤the white dog statue at the start of the video 🎉Thank you for sharing. I love thrifting. 🎉
