I bought some frames with the idea of putting mirrors in them, and then couldn't find mirrors that fit. Never thought to look for a glass/mirror shop, until I saw this video. Of course, there's one in the next town over! Thanks for the tip!
I'm so glad to be part of this family. The people here are never toxic and it just brings me joy to be here. My goal is to buy atleast one merch when I finish school and get a job. 😁😂
Thanks. i really enjoyed the start to this series. One tip for the gold paint lovers: Traditionally gold leaf was placed over a red painted surface. If you paint gold over red, the gold feels more metallic, vibrant and real. This is especially true if you are brush painting it on. If you are going for a silver look, paint the silver over a dark cyan blue.
To save yourself some energy & some ear breaking squeak-age: metal files usually only work in one direction, so going back & forth doesn't do anything like sandpaper would. Just go one direction again and again. I promise it's faster & easier.
These are great! Re: Painting both sides of things. I love to paint sets for local, amateur productions of theater shows (back when we had theater in person) and I often get poked fun at for painting well beyond the sight lines, but I always assume it's better to be safe than sorry, especially if the set designer changes their mind halfway through a build. (To be honest, the set designer is often me, and I'm notorious for changing my mind). I love these.
I'm not finished watching, but you just put the price up for the wood stain & I love you for it. It looks like you already had the wood stain but I love that you recognize someone else might need to buy it & include it in their final DIY price. You have seriously become my new favorite person in the entire world for that Danie.
Welding is really fun. Definitely give it a try when you get a chance! It’s a trade so its not easy but I imagine your crafting skills will help in learning. I took a class in college and learned three different types of welding. Happy DIYing.
I really appreciate your attention to detail and as I watch a lot of other diy channels here on UA-cam and have seen many cool “dupes” but I love that you mentioned the quality and how that’s an important thing when trying to recreate a product . that’s one of the big reasons I love your work and know I can trust you to finish a project in a quality way. Keep it up please! Beautiful mirrors I actually think your arched one is more beautiful than the original.
For those of us who don’t have the space or tools to do this - for the 1st DIY you can literally just get the Ikea Hovet mirror (£90!), spray paint it black and stick two pieces of stained wood at the top and bottom... Edit: Having seen the cost now, I think I’d go Ikea even if I had the tools - it would cost a third of the third 😂 And for the Arch mirror - Zara, Dunelm and Wayfair 👌🏽
What’s so funny is that my best friend and I were searching for floor mirrors and this video popped up with both the styles we love. Thank you for creatively reading our minds! So good.👍🏽
I love that you showed us the ins and outs of the tools! Not a lot of people do that and this made thinking of using these tools way more accessible! Thanks so much!
Danie, at some point I thought: "Girl, you need to clean the mirror before taking these close-up final shots!" But then I realized that my screen was dirty... Well done, I love these kinds of videos where you show us what works and what could be improved... Very relatable!
Loooove this new series! I appreciate that you're taking time to build quality pieces that will last too. Sometimes the "designer dupe" videos have really cool looking results but I am skeptical of how well they'll actually hold up. Also cutting glass is one of my favorite things in the world. It's so satisfying... But cutting that huge mirror would have made me have a heart attack haha
As someone who works at West Elm and sees mirrors like these on the daily, you absolutely NAILED these! Especially the industrial floor mirror with the wood paneling!
Hi Danny, I have been making signs my whole life and we use MDF board a lot. We would sandblast it to make a really interesting texture. To seal it we would use glue and water and then paint after that. just an idea for you. Love your work.
I actually prefer the MDF frame over a metal frame. Both mirrors are absolutely beautiful. Great job. Wishing you a smooth and happy move. I always pre plan what will go in each kitchen and bathroom cabinet. I label each box with the cabinet name or number, so unpacking is easy.
I have been eyeing that first mirror for... SO LONG. Now I know how to make it myself and have the wood colour match to my existing furnishings! I love this.
IM OBSESSED. I swear you could sell these and make so much money off of it. Thats how AMAZING they look! The metal and wood one has me 😍😍😍😍 Industrial is my style 100% and I'd die for that mirror 😍
I LOVE LOVE LOVED this!! The instructions on how to make the mirrors and tool explanations is exactly what I'm needing!! Didn't know about the jigsaw blades! I would use the same blade to cut everything until the blade went dull! 😆 I'm so excited for your new content and seeing what you will be doing in your new home!! Again congratulations new home owner and thank you thank you thank you SSOOOO much for sharing your love of DIY with us!! You are most definitely Femme&Fierce!!! Keep making it messy!!! #femme&fierce #makeitmessy #badassdiydanie🤘💜🛠📐🎨🖌🎶🎧🐕👽🖖
I have been thinking about the first mirror for months, it is pinned all over my Pinterest! I was contemplating diying my Ikea Hovet mirror to look like it because the frame of the Hovet mirror is aluminum that I spray painted black, and all I would need to do is add the wood piece to the top and bottom. I think your creation looks 1000 times better but the Ikea idea could be a more budget-friendly but lesser quality hack!
One could also use the larger Nissedal mirror in Black and just add the stained plywood. Yes, its Not Metal but you'd still get the effect for a Fraction of the cost. Espcially because you can often find it seccond Hand on craigslist and stuff.
Your mirrors are stunning!!! I agree that making it yourself is so much better, because you are being creative. You are also gaining further skills, which is priceless in my book! I so love the arched mirror. Amazing! 😎👍👍👍
Nice Job!!!!!! I found an old mirrored sliding closet door (years ago). It was framed in UGLY rusted medal but the mirror was great! So, I had to come up with something to fix that crappy frame. After counting all my pennies....still didn't have any way of buying spray paint. It just so happened, I inherited my Dad's tool boxes when he passed. I had a "light bulb" moment! LOL!!! He had 2 rolls of plumbers tape that were stainless steel in color & 2'' wide!!! Problem solved!!!!! I've had that "full length mirror" in my walkin closet for years now!!! Just LOVE the way you are able to come up with hacks & DIY solutions!!! Love your channel girl!!!!!
I love it! I would love to see more videos like this! I really enjoy DIY’s but don’t always need things to be made the absolute cheapest possible; quality made but don’t want to break the bank. Plus I appreciate that you explain tools in a non condescending way, making it accessible to those of us who don’t have as much experience. Thanks Danie!
🎊Congrats...you did it!🎊 💰Frankly, both the West Elm boutique & your DIY prices were more than my 💲budget💲 could stretch for decor. 🤔 Found a huge floor mirror @ a garage sale for $20, so keep your 👀eyes pealed for a bargain! It's in the shape of your first project, but it was set into a frame like your oval mirror. This one has a wide frame, but it still feels rather flimsy for the weight. 🛠One of these days, I'm gonna get an mdf or plywood piece to attach to the back for added stability😊. 💜Love💜 the metal & wood mirror. The Mod Industrial Farmhouse vibe speaks to me over 70s Boho Chic. Both mirrors turned out nicely❣
They both turned out fantastically. I think I might favor the rectangle over the arch, I like the dark wood on the top and bottom. I knew you were in the middle of moving when I noticed your art gallery was not on the wall! I wouldn't do either of these not just because I don't have the tools, but because I have two floor length mirrors already....Can't wait to see the new house, two weeks is a long time to wait.
For the next one I would be very interested to see what it might cost to rent the machinery included in the final tally. I know these guys can be rented from your hardware store, I just haven’t looked deeply into them. But that would be a barrier for me and the average Jane to DIY’ing this myself, since I don’t have these things on hand. Thank you for doing these! It’s very encouraging to see the ins and outs of cost ESPECIALLY if you can match quality.
I’m so glad you mentioned time spent making it. I didn’t think you were going to and was presently surprised - its such an important detail to legitimise the test ❤️
As someone who just bought the arched mirror from West Elm ($549 USD), I would never do this. I could never lol! But it was fun to watch, and I love your parent's support and help.
I really appreciate that you take the time to explain the difference between the blades and the type of machines and all that!!! Thanks so much, keep up the great work
I bought some frames with the idea of putting mirrors in them, and then couldn't find mirrors that fit. Never thought to look for a glass/mirror shop, until I saw this video. Of course, there's one in the next town over! Thanks for the tip!
Other thing with MDF is to paint it with a wood glue/water mixture first. Give it a quick sand and you're good to go. But definitely going to try the shellac!
Danie, I know you're probably super busy with the house move at the moment but I would absolutely LOVE a full tool talk series in the future! I do them at my job with our volunteers (I work in habitat management) and I'd love to learn about the tools I don't use. Having said that, could you please consider the safety of the tools you use & wear gloves! Every tool causes HAV and puts you at risk of RSIs or nerve damage!
I love dupes! Your series should be a hit! I wish I could remember what I had thought about suggesting, a while ago! I did mention to another U-tuber, asked how to send it to her but never heard. Ironically, one was a mirror. Driftwood somehow made up the frame. It was a while ago! I wouldn't personally attempt such a huge undertaking but those turned out beautifully! I bet, side by side someone couldn't spot the dupe! Some dupes are really great but differences show! Good luck finding great inspiration. I'm going to see what else ya got! LOL.
I've been wanting an arched mirror for so long. Yours turned out great! Definitely worth it. The only thing I would have made differently is the frame thickness, I think a bit thinner would look more delicate.
Love how you did the break downs and including the prices throughout the video. All together really bomb editing! Def going to try to make the first mirror. Also him breaking the glass with his bare hands made me SO nervous
I love these two mirrors! I have wanted one for a few years. Thank-you for the great directions. As soon as we are finished remodeling, this will be a finishing touch project. Keep the projects coming!
I’m a machinist and I file a lot of metal so I wanted to say that it’s easier to file in downward motions only. Otherwise you could risk pulling the sharp edges back up. Hope that helps!
I loved the first one!! And thank you for making quality dupes. So many other you tubers diy expensive things but the quality is is not nearly what my perfectionist personality could bear... Which then puts me off trying to dupe the thing myself. And thanks for the diy tips on the jigsaw blades! It's great to be able to learn actual skills and tips to help with our own projects. Love your channel!!
Good job, Danie. My dad was an excellent glass cutter - had one tool he used forever. The neighborhood guys would come over dragging their feet and their pride to give their work to Joe after they had broken numerous windows and mirrors.
I'm impressed! I've been looking at the rectangular one for a long while online, drooling. You knocked it out of the park! Now, to learn how to use a jigsaw.
Danie's total for the arched mirror was $223.41, but you can find a dupe of the arched mirror on Amazon rn for only $170 or $219 (depending on which size you choose, the skinnier size is cheaper). For people who don't have access to a lot of tools, a studio, etc finding & buying a dupe may be a better option, so that's what I did. It was fun watching it be made though.
Both became stunning Danie, love it. I am all for second-hand mirrors. The big ones in my house came for almost nothing. Plus, classy outlook when painted. Ain't it fun to DIY.
Danie! I am a long time viewer of this channel and I LOVE that you are doing this segment on your channel! PLEASE do one on the CB2 Cane daybed!! I need to know! It costs like $1200!! Please! I love your channel and your shirt. Much Love from New Mexico!
I love the first one. I think it really stands up to the challenge to make a quality diy. The second one is nice too, but looks way more diy-y with the arch not being perfectly symmetrical and the painted mdf. Still a great job, just not as perfect as the first one. I may have to recreate the first one on a simple mirror I already own now 😅
How did you know I was looking for gold floor mirrors last night and gawking at the prices? Thanks Danie! I never thought to look at a custom glass shop, but this seems like a great way to support local businesses and save several hundred dollars as well! Good luck on the move! I'm moving as well and it's pretty stressful, so here's hoping everything goes smoothly for the both of us! Have a good day!
Thanks, as ever, Danie! The first one looks within my very narrow realm of DIY efficacy 🤷🏿♀️ May try it on a plain oversized mirror I thrifted earlier this year for my bedroom (6.5'H x 4'W)
Totally love this video, especially because I've been lusting over that gold arch mirror from west elm. The only factor that seems tricky is getting ahold of all those tools I don't regularly use - I wonder how much that would add to the price, even if it's just a rental... Great job Danie! Thanks for being such a creative, kind, and lovely maker and for all the awesome content you make :)
You should look up a shared makers spaces in your area! Sometimes if your lucky places will have essentially a community shared area with big tools that people don't always have or own that you can pay a little bit to use and then you don't have to invest if you don't want to or can't right now :)
There are now tool "share groups". You can even rent carpentry space and use the available tools. Often they require tool instruction before you are allowed to work in the space. For a newbie, that is a real bonus! If you are looking to upgrade your shop equipment, those places are great for trying before you buy.
Admittedly, the router feels a bit intimidating to me, but all your tips are great (realizing I could get glass and mirror cut for me changed my life when I figured that out a few years ago - hello glass shelves) and thank you for using clear coat! It bugs me more than it should when I don't see that brought up on other diy's I've seen. Beautiful job as usual
Yeah the Zinsser BIN Shellac Primer comes in a spray can and makes top coats look like glazed enamel. I'm in the process of using the roll-on type to refinish my old 80's cabinets to block wood tannins and seal out the bit of musty smell on the sink base cabinets. Even with the roll-on application with sanding in between it makes everything look professionally refinished and really brings the gloss out when using gloss and semi-gloss paint on top. But here's a tip if you want it tinted- have them do it in the store. You can't add your paint to it to tint it at home like you can with most other primers. The mixture will just bind up and turn into a globby, gritty, gluey, unworkable substance that nightmares are made of. (I tried this so you don't have to.)
Thank you for going over the jig saw blade types. I want a jig saw but was very intimidated by it. Not any more. I look forward to this new series and more tool tips.
They both turned out amazing! And aside from saving a lot of money, there is something priceless about telling someone else "oh this? I made it!"
Right?! That's my favourite feeling 🥰

Good morning Danie
Both mirrors turned out great.
You are so talented and it seems confident with your DIY skills.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
Briliant!!!! I realy love the first one!!! En for that cost saving I would surely DIY it!!!
I’d totally make these myself. I like the first one for my decor. Thank you for sharing. I’m so glad I found your channel.
Fantastic! I loved both mirrors! Good for people to see the exact process and feel like they could do it too. Great job.
Would definitely DIY! My favorite was the arched gold mirror. It is awesome!
I’m obsessed with the industrial mirror!! Such a gorgeous colour stain on the wood too. You did such good work 💕
They both turned out great... but my fav was the arched mirror.
You did an awesome job! I was kinda wary of the gold sprayed wood frame, but I honestly love it. The 1st one is so so good.
I actually like the wood frame style better than metal. Great Job girl.
@@300happybunny That's an awesome idea! Thanks for the tip :D
Also some places have "tool libraries", same as borrowing a book !
There are now tool "share groups". You can even rent carpentry space and use the available tools. Often they require tool instruction before you are allowed to work in the space. For a newbie, that is a real bonus! If you are looking to upgrade your shop equipment, those places are great for trying before you buy.
All the comments on my post are so kind and helpful. Danie should be so proud that this is the kind of community she's inspired :)
Love both mirrors. I couldn't pick just one. You did a great job as always. Love your channel, your DIY's and your fun, quirky attitude.😊
I love both, but I think I like the first best! And thanks for explaining the tools so well!
Love the blade tool talk! And the mirrors turned out great!
I’m FLOORED
😆
You out did yourself this time. I love that dark green bedroom with wood tones and white.
I love both mirrors but the arched one is my fave
Amazing mirrors! 👏 Seeing your background so empty makes me so excited about your new home ❤
I love the wood and metal one! I would absolutely make it myself.
I loved the walk through of the different kinds of jigsaw blades
Danie you definitely nailed it !!! Love both mirrors ❤
Thank you for going over the jig saw blade types. I want a jig saw but was very intimidated by it. Not any more. I look forward to this new series and more tool tips.
Great, love the right angled mirror more, no wait the round topped, or ....maybe both.
Those mirrors totally look great. I liked the arched one best
Both mirrors came out beautifully!!!! 🙌🏾 Great price points too 👏🏾
i like when someone explains tools doesn't expect to knw u everything 🤗
Def gonna make that first one and reuse a big floor mirror we already have with a fugly plastic frame. This will be way better!
