Unfortunately, Ford’s Ecoboost engines are disastrous with many issues with timing chain, coolant leaks and oil leaks at early stages of warranty expiration but when this Ecoboost ages…run…it’s a complete engine replacement. It will get very expensive fast.
I have an F-150 3.5 Ecoboost with 50,000 miles. Changed the starter last year because it was rusted out (I live in Texas). Already had the timing rattle done. After the repair the fan runs on high WAY too often. So loud that I can’t go through drive throughs. It tries to over heat while pulling my camper on flat ground. Left me stranded in the Texas panhandle (in the winter) because it got so hot it cut power. It’s currently in the body shop because it got beat to $hit by hail. Not the trucks fault, but par for the course with this nightmare ownership experience. Haha can’t wait to unload it.
I wish it had a richer forest green or emerald color to go with that brown interior. Still, a fine vehicle, but I rather have a Yukon Denali.
How do you feel about leasing vs buying? Vehicles tend to get better every year and improvements in models seem to be significant about every 3 years on average. I've stayed away from leasing due to the bad wrap it got in the early years of leasing. The cost of repairs of newer vehicles is high now due to all of the high tech and vehicle warranties on average are only 3 years. I actually trade in my vehicles every two to 3 years but never lease. I do lose some money and I look at the value of a new vehicle(with a new warranty) as a trade-off. Also much of the money spent on a vehicle upkeep occurs after 3 years(tires, brakes and maintenance above and beyond oil change and tire rotations). Problems seem to be more likely after 3 years and when the warranty is no longer valid. Perhaps leasing is not so good for high mileage drivers - but they likely exceed the base warranty mileage anyway(36k normally) and so perhaps only get two years of warranty when buying the vehicle. You hear how owners feel stuck with a problem vehicle. One has to have a budget that supports either method.
Too many considerations, but I prefer to pay cash. I’m old school.
Another dinosaur that should be deleted.
