- Опубліковано 30 бер 2024
- We pit two full-size SUVs against each other in this one, the GMC Yukon and Ford Expedition.
With 5000lbs hooked to the hitch, we discuss which of these works better for towing. Our GMC Yukon was the Denali Ultimate, while the Ford Expedition came dressed in King Ranch trim.
Let us know which you would pick in the comments below, GMC or Ford?

The Ford is capable of towing quite a bit more than the GMC. I'm surprised you did not make a bigger deal out of that fact. Thanks for the review as always
He’s a closet gmc lover and choir
I live in Colorado, I went with the Ford Expedition as our family/camper towing rig just because of the high elevation. Where I live (around 6200 ft elevation) GMC 6.2 will loose about 20% of HP (336 HP) and even down to 30% (294HP) up in the mountains. The Ford with it's EcoBoost is not affected by elevation at all. I got my Expy Limited for $69k brand new last year out here so that's always a bonus compared to Canadian prices lol
Anyone who buys that GMC over the Ford for a whopping 25k more needs their head examined.
Yeah for over $130k Canadian...they are kidding themselves
Why would anyone buy a “top of the line “ jam can ( gMc yikes)
You mean the 10s of thousands who end up choosing GMC over Ford and never looked back? 😂😂
Ford lost big time as always.
The GMC costs more because its worth more. What is so hard to understand??
That's why I love American automotive. My choose is GMC with big V8. Great review. Greetings
Excellent episode as always!!! 😁
Towing is not about 0 to 60, it’s about how well the engine holds speed up and down hills. The GM just like with their trucks is overdone on the outside. The Ford has a smooth clean appearance.
C’mon, you can still like Ford, they can’t always win everything 🤨
Ford was the one that started the big front end.other companies like GMC and ram did the same, should have made the expedition look a little tougher I honestly like the way my 2008 looks better
Love ❤️ yall work !!
Seat flips up on the Expedition second row similar to the GMC, you just have to understand how to operate it.
Happy Easter Truck King Howard Steve Matt as well as the Queens of Truck King. Easter bunny never showed up here😆😅🤣
Watching this video just made me appreciate my 05 Excursion so much more!
Great video. 👍
Excelente comparativo saludos desde Córdoba Argentina
Javier Milei!!! My BOY!!!
got the hitch from mr.truck or do they sell them in canada
Havent been in the latest expedition but we rented fhe GMC extended for a 4500km road trip with 6 people.
It fit all of us and our luggage pretty well. Fuel econ from what i recall was around 15MPG, half flat, half mountain driving.
Its definitely governed at 180km and drove well at top speed 😂
I own a '21 Expedition Stealth Limited with the tow package which we use to tow an RV. I love the power of the Eco beast engine, although fuel economy is less than desirable when towing. My wife's cousin just bought a '24 King Ranch Expedition. I prefer the exterior look of my 2021. The GMC Yukon is Better looking overall though.
One thing that Ford does better though in the 2nd row is you can move the seat with a carseat in place; my grandkids love the view out
You guys have become one of my favorite channels for truck reviews
I had a 2002 Expedition & it's crazy how much they've changed.
Both are super nice, I'm biased towards Ford but that N/A V8 in the GMC is an eye catcher for me.
To bad GM engines are trash.
I don’t know why Ford doesn’t offer the Coyote as an option in the Expedition, it’s based on the F-150 and wouldn’t be difficult to accommodate whatsoever. Not everyone wants a boosted V6. I also think it would be awesome if they made a Raptor/Raptor R version of the Expedition, but I know they wouldn’t sell many… but it would still be badass.
@@phantom0456 Ford like other automakers keep pushing those undersized turbo engines on everything. If I was rich enough to afford an SUV like these, I'd go with the GMC for the V8, seem how Ford is not interested in putting the right engines in tow vehicles....course most people don't care they don't keep a vehicle long enough to realize how terrible a small turbo charged engine will be in the long term for reliability especially for towing duties which is what a truck and large SUV is built for.
@@wildbill23cthis ain’t a tow vehicle this is for soccer moms
@@Vandantcyclone The manufacturers wouldn't give them a tow rating if they weren't a tow vehicle, and the Yukon, and Tahoe as well as the Expeditions have been tow vehicles since they were introduced 20+ years ago....they started out as trucks, the masses have turned them into soccer mom cars, just like most truck buyers, they never use them as a truck they use them as a family sedan...and hence you have $80k+ priced trucks and SUV's.
Gmc with that 3.0L Duramax also has an insane fuel economy, it goes as low as 6.3 on southern Alberta highways with cruise control, driving it like a grandma you can get it to as low as 5.7 that's my best and that's my favorite thing about that full sized SUV. It's amazing. Toeing an enclosed cargo trailer though I can easily go from the Waterton Park area to Edmonton (about 700km) 120-130 on the freeway all the way (if conditions allow it) fuel economy will sit at 13.5 and make it to Edmonton with just over ⅛ of a tank of Diesel left. If you ask me that part is very underrated about that Duramax. It amazes me every time, and you can't go wrong!
At least until the oil pump belt fails or you have to pay for its replacement! I like the 3.0 Duramax, but that in particular seems like a bad call to me.
@@phantom0456 442,000km and still going strong with the original belt...
I owned 2021 Tahoe with the diesel. Fuel mileage was insane. So was the amount of times in the shop.....starting with only 280km on the odometer...,.. got rid of it at the 18 months mark with only 32,000 KM on it. Never again!
“Vader Chrome” is GM for shiny black plastic.
I ended up buying a decked out F150 and put a $2K cover over the bed. Granted I can only seat 5 (which is more than I need), but I have more trailer towing capability and can store far more stuff in the back (bed) area. Plus the total was $72K (US) ... I am not in the market for a $100K+ SUV, so had to go alternative route.
Smart move, I did the same thing & I started with the Expedition.
And really you can't haul but 6 adults comfortably in the Expedition, they say 7 but not comfortably.
I’ve done the same
With 2 different F150’s. Agree on all points, however, it would be nice to have a conditioned space for cargo. Family of four with a largish dog would fit better in an Expedition, for example.
What’s the king ranch logo supposed to be?
Wouldn’t the Navigator be the better comparison to the Denali?
It’s debatable. Ford doesn’t have a direct competitor to GMC, as GMC is more geared towards the higher-end buyer who isn’t ostentatious while Cadillac is more geared towards those ostentatious buyers. The high-end trims of the Expedition are meant to fill that role since Mercury is no longer a thing, so realistically the Escalade and the Navigator should be directly compared. That said, I’d like to see a Mercury version of the Expedition/Navigator, but of course that will never happen, unfortunately.
everything you said makes no sense. The Navigator would be a direct comparison. Has the comfort, the upgrades and the price tag to match the denali.
I think the GMC is better and more reliable than FORD.
Better V8 than Turbo v6
Gm is not more reliable than the Ford . Gm have problems with there engines throughout lifters causing motor to self destruct some before 10000 mile . I have and GM . My motor died on me in 9000 miles. 14k later for a new motor I was not happy.. I have see so many GM trucks get new motor because they are just junk. Ford Is much better
We looked all four american suv when shoppjng for the family. Drove all of them and i personally liked the expedition king ranch and wife liked navigator. So you can probably guess what we have now 😂. But we both didnt like the escalade or denali as both felt like a rougher ride. Plus AFM is a big no go for me on vehicles.
Let’s see if that 6.2 makes it to the first oil change
Re Willys vs thick ice, in the video the 2024 Jeep Wrangler Willys it showed it had 33 inch KO2 tires. What are the tire measurements? In January' of this year I bought a 2023 Jeep Willys.. It came with IT255-75R17 mud terrains. I like the stance of the yellow jeep in your video. I am looking forward getting KO2s, providing there is no issues with those tires. Many thanks.
The only reason GM has more leg room and head room is the seats aren't as thick long term the seats in the FORD will be better 👍
I was thinking before I finished watching. I would’ve put PPF beforehand. Looks like you did that now.
You are sounding like a GM fan boy
The 5.3 in the GMC offers the max towing and payload out of the 3 engine options. I recently got a 24 yukon 5.3 with max tow of 8400. My wife tows her 7800lb horse trailer with it and it does very well.
Gmc
I would pick the GMC. I like the powertrain, dash, and styling.
You put expedition on the title when you were mentioning the GMC stats😮
Love the Expedition but, I would MUCH rather have the "small" screen with the physical buttons underneath. I think the 'screen-only' would be a deal breaker for me.
No headrest on the middle seats (2nd and 3rd row) is a deal killer though. Why haven’t they put those on yet?
Eco beast is king of the half ton trucks and SUV’s and it’s not close. I would really like the 6.2 if it wasn’t direct injection only.
I think they're going to end up going to sequential fuel injection and direct injection together so you don't get the carbon on the valves😅
@@michaelbefumo-qg7ji they're taking its sweet time, though. That 6.2 has been pretty much unchanged for the last 15 years (except for the AFM which sucks). Same HP and torque for all these years
So true Us Canadians get's the shaft on pricing. Just take the Ranger Raptor is 55K in the USA and 80K in Canada.
there is no place in canada where you can use the raptor to its full capabilities..
The Ranger in the US is priced about $30k over what its really worth.
😅 different money dude.
@@JogBird
The majority of "Raptor" owners don't see anything but pavement. 😂
@@wildbill23c so are most midsized trucks by that account.
Now do it right. Compare it with the navigator. Better comparison
Although I'm partial more towards Ford, the Expedition has already become long in the tooth with its generic looking styling and design. I'm not a fan of the vertical screen, definitely prefer a horizontal one. The GMC looks far more modern and better looking inside. So maybe the Ford is quicker but I'll take the V8 over a twin 6 all day especially when they are unfortunately starting to near extinction. Hope they continue to offer what I think every suv should have, the liftgate window opening. A power down option like Toyota has in the 4runner would be a great addition to one of these larger vehicles. Another great review as always Truck King 👑 ✌🏽 🇺🇲 ❤️
24:29 It senses the snow and stopped you because of that.
I just don't see $25,000 more in value...
The Expedition is due for an overhaul.
Looking from a video doesn't do it justice.
Sorry I don’t agree on the power I’ve drove expedition is way faster it’s turbo the gmc 6.2 fills slow
I come from a country that less is more. Meaning the more basic the truck is the better because the less things to fix or have to replace. I would be much happier with the basic ford expedition.
Yeah well, it’s still $75k😭
@@coachbeam3600no its not a base expedition start at 55k and can be cheaper depends on where you live.
@3:26 when you started talking about “Vader Chrome” I desperately wanted to see Darth Vader come out flashing gang signs in front of the grille while yelling “DARK SIDE! REPRESENT, YO!!!”
Do they make this vehicle four-wheel drive?
For that kind of money they better be 😂
With the issues GM is having lately I'll take the Expedition thank you.
Need to include the Toyota Sequoia and Jeep Wagoneer in this same test
3:03 Why the editor duplicate Ford Expedition instead of GMC Denali!
GMC looks awesome with the Vader chrome.
The platinum or the Limited would be a better comparison. The Lincoln Navigator is in a league of its own. The head space is good in both vehicles. Same for leg space. Btw Ford has had the massaging seats since forever. Try getting the version with the madsaging seats. Great review, but comparing a higher trim level to a lower trim level does nothing.
You cant compare the gmc to the ford. It should of been the gmc vs lincoln
GMC Yukon with 3.0 duramax is great for towing
Yukon looks like some kind of space spider 😂 not for me.
Pro back up assist comment... So towing is a lot of responsibility.. It requires lots of extra attention, and a pretty good grasp on basic physics.. But, backing up is the one time that a person's inability to tow is on full display.. If they can't back a trailer, they probably can't think ahead to make wide turns, and other things u must do when trailering. And they basically just get lucky alot when driving forward.. So if u can't back up by hand, u should not be towing on public highways.
With the weight of the 3 men test drive in the GMC is Close 2 700 pounds, 5000 pound trailer. You add 10 to 15%. Of the weight of the trailer.
So six hundred Pounds In tongue weight.
And you're about maxed out.
And you still got room for 4 more passengers and you haven't put any cargo in.and they want $125,000 crazy
3 wives and a bunch of kids 😂
@31:41, I get the Denali Ultimate is the top-of-the-line vs the lower trim level King Ranch, but the extra features you are talking about in this comparison are also on a similarly equipped SLT that is less than the KR :-) In the Ultimate you are mostly paying for material differences, leather, suede , "vader Chrome", etc...
Update: I just went to GMC to build one, correction, you can't get a 6.2 in a SLT. You can get it with a 3.0 Diesel though, but I did build a regular denali with all these "extra features" you talk about and it came out to $87K US, so less than the King ranch! That was also upgrading to the 22" wheels and Max trailering package 🙂
It's crazy to see the markup they have on what mostly amounts to material change in these vehicles. If the Expidition is your bag, get an xlt with leather and be on your way for less than a base SLE yukon. More power, more features and cheaper. You gotta spend more in the GMC to get comparable features at every trim level according to the website.about 5K more. I do like the look of the GM exterior though
So to get the Air ride it would bump the price to $92K, so a little more. But, with that being said, you don't need to spend almost $25k more to get those features :-)
I'm not a fan of these "packages" these companies try and sell you, it should be ala carte' ! If you ever see how these vehicles are assembles it would be super easy to do so, every part is tracked with a bar code and could be installed with no issues! Its 100% a money grab by these manufacturers @@garryknaggs9177
FYI regarding message seats, Ford’s Platinum trim comes with them too.
To do actual comparison to that Gmc you would need the Ford platinum expedition Max.
Park assist was detecting the hitch.
I don't know why you didn't put the Denali against the limited I think that would've been a more fair comparison
It always depends on what is available to us
Ok well that makes more sense I just like to see vehicles that are equal in terms of models and trem lines the pirice should not matter because at most price points people are going to buy what they want
The Ford needs a better Front end
Gmc ...on my pick.
It also out sells the ford.
Great video guys, I like the comparison videos. I prefer the Yukon Denali , but both are nice rigs for a family
Great review guys! If only Ford would match their prices with a better quality dashboard instead of the hard plastic all over it.
Get rid of that sunroof crap, and you'll gain a couple inches of headroom. Way too many vehicles with sunroofs as almost a standard now...get rid of it, one less place for leaks in the future too.
Cruise control is your foot. 😂😂😂😂😂
Had a first Gen Seqouia and a 2017 Armada. Very similar driving experiences, mpg etc. Seqouia was more nimble and for a big vehicle drove more like a car, whereas the Armada feels “truckier”. Side by side the Armada just looks like more of a taller brawnier tank. Like the sequoia’s storage space better though. 3rd rows felt identical. Close but overall prefer the Armada
I’ve owned 2 Yukons. I’d like to switch to jeep. Any comparison on the wagoneer L coming up ?
Junk
Stay away from those Wagoneers my friend
8000lbs of towing is a joke for cost of these things can’t even tow a medium sized travel trailer with that number
bring whatever best short you have, I'll always go with The Denali
The stats chart says Ford Expedition for both.
3 rows of seats with 8k of towing but only 1350lbs payload. That doesnt add up. You could be over that payload with 6 portly passengers. Then add a 7000lb trailer with 700lbs tongue weight.
The towing figure doesn’t mean it is able do that while loaded full of other people/cargo. In many cases it’s an either/or scenario.
With most vehicles you'll max out your payload capacity long before you hit the trailer towing capacity because part of your payload capacity gets eaten up by trailer tongue weight. The 5k trailer would have around 500 pounds of tongue weight....1350 pounds of payload capacity is now 850 pounds....yep seems about right....also keep in mind these 2 bloated SUV's are also the luxury trim levels, which severely cuts your payload capacity right off the bat....if you wanna tow, buy a base model with the max tow package with any vehicle...with a truck you'd want the heavy payload package too, as well as a higher numerical ratio for your final drive, which gives you max tow capability, worse fuel economy, but if you wanna tow heavy you want to set the vehicle up properly..
Most of these fancy SUV's will never tow anything, they'll be found sitting at Walmart....so many people don't care what the towing capacity is LOL.
GMC better but I wouldnt waste my money on the gmc that’s almost 30k more hell nah
Proffessiomal grade anyway
NO WAY am I paying $25,000 dollars more for the GMC, just for a few more features !!
should of compared the lincoln version i believe that would be the navigator better comparison.
I think the Navigator compares to the Cadillac Escalade.
Ford all day everyday
I do miss the V8 rumble though. I do not enjoy the noise from an Ecoboost engine... but I do love the power it makes, & the greater towing capacity is why I bought an Expedition
Wrong trim level on the Ford so right away there will be a biased view. Secondly the power on the Ford with the upper trim is more and it would have been a better comparison. GMC for the looks all the way around but I actually preferred the interior on the Ford. Having owned multiple of both GMC's and Ford's the seats and comfort have always been more enjoyable on the Ford's especially long hauls. Lastly not a fair comparison but 25k more is ridicules. All these vehicles have gotten way too expensive. Great review guys. Keep them coming.
i doubt these guys get to pick and choose which trim levels they get to review. its probably a lot of effort to schedule two comparative vehicles as it is...picking and choosing which trim levels and options is most likely not always something they are entitled to do. i dont think it has anything to do with being biased. even with a higher trim level, the ford still looks like a 2010 explorer, as you well know
Yuppie busses! Got to park up front at my favorite themed restaurant and show off my new outfit from a catalog that I'll only wear once. I've heard that once upon a time, they used cranks to roll down windows, brought lunch to work with them, didn't even have a summer place at the lake, and worst of all, had to wipe their own butts. My oh my, I can't imagine.
Im really tired of the ancient 6.2 liter V8 overly used across general motors brands. You would think that there would be an updated tune for the gmc and the Cadillac Escalade. At least 500 hp 610 lbs-ft for the luxury brands. Nope , same performance as the Silverado and Tahoe. Humbug.
I have both of these currently. The Yukon is miles ahead of the Expedition in terms of ride quality and drivetrain smoothness.
It would be very interesting to see your review of the all-new 2024 Chevy Traverse.
Jeep Wagoneer FTW
GMC is better looking inside and out but not a fair comparison since the Yukon is sort of a “tweener” between the Tahoe and Escalade. This Yukon would lose the same comparison to the Navigator. Don’t the Expedition’s middle row seats manually recline which can solve the head room issue?
Why was the Wagoneer not included in this comparison?
Maybe they couldn’t get one.
@@marcg.3830 very true. maybe they said that and I missed it.
Because Wagoneer are real junk , my daughter builds it she say never and I mean Never Buy One.
Ford 💪🏽❤️
That Expedition is in desperate need of a refresh!

The GMC appears to have a much nicer interior and more purposeful exterior. I usually like Ford products, but if it was my money, I would buy the GMC.
But do you think everything inbetween the good look inside and out is worth it
100%, the GMC looks much nicer, but I personally can't get over how uncomfortable the seats are and how stiff all the materials feel. It's definitely design over function. The looks nice until you put them side by side with the GMC.
Why doGM trucks interior dash always look like it's from the 1990's?
Because they are Professional Grade ™
@@theglowcloud2215 ummm ?
GMC Yukon is the best 💪🏻😎
5000 lbs is not really a weight test towing a travel trailer I would like to be close to 10000 lbs at least a 9000
Insane price points not withstanding , the GMC is ten times better looking design than the Ford, the Denali looks like it could drive over the Ford and keep going
I don’t know why you make a big deal about leg and head room in the 2nd and 3rd row, 98% it’s going to be kids and teens seating in the seats not a 6’2” 300lbs man.
G M C
GMC 🎉
I am waiting for the new 2025 Ford expedition
I bet the f-150 hybrid system will come and add even more power and mpg. Also the tech will be updated a bunch since the expedition is older.
Both need to get rid of those useless and ridiculous 22 inch wheels that have flooded the market. 20s and 18s make so much more sense. They ride better, don’t damage as easily, and are more useful. Besides, 22s are blingy and tacky.
Ford Expedition entire middle to rear interior looks wayyyy more premium. U all are tripping. Must be some mid west west coast ppl on here. Ford Rules on the streets in any lane. More Fords in the trucking business than any other Brand........but u all know that lol
