Ford's Expedition Is Solid, But Is That Enough? 2024 Ford Expedition Review

  • Ford's Expedition hasn't been around as long as some of you might think. It first launched in 1997, more than 55 years after Chevy's first Suburban rolled onto American roads, but quickly gained a cult following. The second generation Expedition in 2003 changed the full-size American SUV segment forever, thanks to a new independent rear suspension. The move to IRS in the back made the Expedition's ride quality hands down the best, and although controversial at the start, guess what every other full-size SUV maker decided to do: copy Ford. Now in it's 5th generation the Expedition still came with a few segment firsts when it launched in 2018, like the standard twin-turbo V6, but the competition didn't stand still... So where does the Expedition fit in? Why would you want one over the GM or Jeep or Toyota competition? Let's find out.

Yes, I'd love to see what the cargo space looks like without the third row installed. That kind of model essentially gives you MAX level of space without the MAX length, and potentially some good payload and towing numbers to boot.

Expedition definitely needs the hybrid treatment. While it'll likely be the powerboost trim powertrain coming to the Expedition with the 3.5, I wish they'd use the 2.7 or 3.0 instead as they are almost as powerful and imo much more reliable than the already good 3.5

A few interesting notes between your 2023 / 2024 presentation and my 2018 expedition. My 2018 is platinum and has massaging seats. It also has the tow package which gives it the rear locker and 4l. I don't have four high like your presentation model there that's an interesting note Ford must have changed later in the life of the expedition as I didn't see it had the button for the rear Locker.
