They had to put climate controls on the steering wheel because to change them on the center console you’d have get out of your seat, walk four city blocks to adjust it there, then go back and sit down to continue driving
😃😆😅😂🤣
Lmao
😂😂😂
that would make a hummer H1 the next town over to turn on the AC
Had one, not quite thdt bad , but close. Miss it, but not the cost of filling it up.
I remember renting one in the early 2000’s, sitting in the front seat and looking back to the backseats, and thinking “this is literally a school bus modified into a SUV”
I'd like to imagine an alternate timeline where dodge made an excursion with the viper v10 or the cummins diesel
Me too. Dodge should've stayed in the full size, full frame, full size truck-based SUV market after the Ramcharger was discontinued. Could've been based on the 2nd geb Ram. Funny that Mexico got a 3rd gen Ramcharger based on the Ram but we didn't. They would've made a killing in the 90s and early 2000s. The Durango was cool, but a full-size Dodge SUV would've been awesome. I know for a fact my mom would've owned one. When her '86 RC was getting older in '99, she went to the Dodge dealer to check out the Durango. It was just a little too small for her so she wound up with a GMT400 '99 Yukon instead. She's a Mopar loyalist so if Dodge had a full size SUV back then she definitely would've bought one.
And I like to imagine an alternative universe where Ford always had a Chevy/GMC Suburban competitor called the Excursion dating back to the 1940s and based on the F-series platform.
@@weegeemike I could never understand how Dodge didn't see Ford and GM printing money from big SUV sales and think to do that themselves. Well there's a reason they needed to be bailed out by Chinese investors I guess. Obviously business decisions weren't the company's strong suit.
@@weegeemike If my memory serves me correctly, I recall Chrysler engineers tried VERY HARD to bring an updated RamCharger to market. But they just couldn't get the fuel economy to where Chrysler wanted it to be. I don't think the feds had a hand in this one. Mexico got one because their emissions standards were a LOT looser than ours. Hence the Durango. Remember, in the 90's, only Ford saw the suv market coming. Or so I've read.🧐🧐
This would be a 130k truck today
I only paid 9800!
My family has a 2000 v10 excursion. Hasn’t given us a single problem. Very comfortable car and easily fits lots of people.
American sized people too lolz
Nice, low mileage 7.3 powerstroke variants still garner a premium. Some over 50,000$.
Zach forgot to mention Toque
6.8 v10

but was plagued with problems
All engine variants only had 44gal fuel tank
My uncle had one, he said when you tow with it you get 11 gallons to the mile.
You were ON FIRE in this review!
This is one of America's best vehicles, definitely best SUV ever.
I expect to see these being preserved, having the distinction of being the largest SUV ever, the cool V10, cool, imposing styling.
A true sign of the times of the optimism of the Millenium era, before the world went sideways.
This SUV IS America.
It's unique and special and only was made in limited years, like so many classics.
It stands out.
Especially in a world DROWNING in smaller lookalike white/gray SUVs that are so generic.
The worst crime with this truck?
NO LINCOLN VARIANT!
They made variants of the Escape, Explorer and Expedition, this largest most boss Ford SUV needed an even plusher Lincoln version to sit above the Aviator and Navigator as THE ultimate SUV, to dominate the world with brash, no holds barred Americanism.
Lincoln Dominator has a nice ring, actually.
(Btw, if it had been bright red like you said, it would look like a firetruck! In fact, I think I've seen them as part of a fire department fleet, lol, so I think subdued colors are the right choice for such a huge vehicle that draws attention with its size and power, doesn't need neon colors to get noticed lol !)
love how the gas light was on LoL!
They never turn off in an Excursion 😂 even when you have a full tank, you still need fuel 😂😂😂
1.3 million miles damn that's impressive
🤨🧐 You don't see the decimal point?
@@doug6191 I see my mistake
No, it has 1.3 hundred thousand
That is wild how good the condition of those seats is!! I wonder if they have had the covers replaced?
I purchased this from the original owner who only used this truck to tow his cigarette boat from Chicago to Florida and back during summer/winter.
Oh man, the bus! This would sell so well today if it was still made. People are still keeping them preserved. and also a V10!!
Modern full-size suvs like the suburban and expedition are basically the size and capability of the excursion. If you’re towing anything heavier you’ll need a 5th wheel anyways
the newest generation suburban is only like 3 inches shorter than the excursion
The top of that console lid isn't factory upholstery, it should be either all plastic or plastic with a faux wood insert in the middle depending on trim level, so it usually is fairly useful as a clipboard haha. However since my dad has owned his since 2001, I don't think I've ever used the console lid as an armrest since it has individual armrests on the seats themselves
Yeah, looked after market to me too, the owner probably (and understandably) wanted a soft place for an armrest instead of a table.
The BOSS move would have been to make an insert that fit under the clip that was soft on one side for an armrest, but reversible with a smooth hard surface if you needed a table/desk.
Bewm!
The Pontiac Aztek had cool thought out features like that... we need more unique and special cars and SUVS like these again...
I will buy this Excursion used over any of the garbage New Ford SUVs
Eh, we own a 2017 explorer and it's been extremely reliable.
American wretched excess. I love it!
6:10 - Several Ford and Lincoln cars had adjustable pedals, too.
A family friend of mine runs a dear lease, and has a double cab f250 with the v10. The thing has 230,000 miles on it, and has been an offroad only vehicle for nearly 10 years now. Still runs like a champ.
Crown vics had the pedal adjustment too
I had 2000 F250 with the V10 - bought for towing our 5th wheel - 12 mpg not towing and 6 mpg towing. For me it wasn't a good tow vehicle - would slow down significantly on any size hill. Even when up in the rpm range where it supposedly made max torque it was still gutless. Only kept it for year before moving onto a 2002 Duramax that worked much better (12 mpg towing and 16-20 not towing and hills were never a problem. Maybe I got a bad one.
16-20 MPG, not towing? A V8? I only get 14MPG with MDS on a HEMI V8. Maybe I ought to get a Duramax too
You probably did have a bad one. Had to use my v10 excursion when my farm truck waited for parts. Did better than the 7.3 in the farm truck with both on a nearly maxed out load on countless hill. i live in west virginia where a flat and clean road doesn't exist. the v10 kicked ass for the price and reliability compared to other gassers and even competed with diesels. early v10s have bad fuel pumps and easily clogged cats so yours could have had those issues.
5th wheel is an e tire difference towing experience. More drag too. I love this excursion. 9pmg no matter what. Geae ratios are good so I'm never sluggish on hills. Tows my 8500 camper like a dream
It's all gearing, if you have high gears in a v10 your gonna be gutless.
But getting nearly 20 with your duramx is such a lie
My friend owns one of these and I finally was able to drive it recently. I love that damn truck. Its so loud with the v10 and missing exhaust due to rust lol
4 row suv would be crazy
We have those--they're called the Ford E-series.
Awesome video man I love your enthusiasm and goofiness great review 👍🙂
I love my 2005 excursion 4x4 V10, drives great, not a diesel, but man, its solid and so far very trouble free
This was one of the coolest videos I've seen in a long time!
the hood is oem but the stick on fake nostril "intakes" are a pretty common addon for trucks/suvs of this size, seen them on Navigators and Expeditions among others.
There is another hood welded to the main hood. I haven't figured out why
that is 100% wrong friend that is a stock hood. 2 second google image search confirmed. The vents are stick-on plastic
@BSFJeebus buddy I own the truck. I've parked next to other excursion. There's a second hood welded to the stock hood and yes stick on vents are on top of the second hood.
Thanks for the review! I absolutely love this truck. The family loves the truck! Best suv ever made and thats why i got it!
Thank you all your videos 🙏❤️💪. Oh I'll go with you on a trip in the excursion
I forgot to say that my Dad had a 2003 Ford Excursion V10 in the Red we loved it. I drove it in 3 ft of it would go anywhere snow. I
I had a lot of experience with this V10 in the E450. Hated this engine.
I'd cry if I got stuck on e series engine work
They're junk. 460 V8 was way better. These were gut less and certain years are really troublesome and unreliable
@@weegeemikethat and 6 mpg didn't help either
Please say why? I would guess it would be quiet, smooth, and plenty of power?
I loved our 2003, it was amazing!
Zack, Sometimes 8 cylinders are just not enough.
Then I would get a diesel
V10s are as expensive to repair as diesels are, I would just buy one of those for the same kind of power.
They are way cheaper. Maintenance is half the cost.
Night mare for electric lovers
and people with a brain
And pedestrians lol
Not for me lol
We have a Ford E series camper with the same Triton V10 and the same 4 speed automatic. Yes it legitimately chugs fuel for days and days, yes it sounds like 2 angry Volvos when you get on it, yes it's massive, and yes, it's extremely comfortable, theres 4 beds, one is a queen size in the bedroom, there's a couch and a table with 2 bench seats, a full bathroom with a shower too, it is really nice
I'd love for you to come review my truck. It's a 2000 7.3L Limited and I absolutely love it.
i had a gen 1 expedition with the v10!!!!
she would tow all and haul ass too! that truck hurt feelings....had to sell when i was living in townhomes with an HOA, already had a new ecoboost truck and other cars and had nowhere to store it..... those things are RARE
I love the Excursion. In general I love the super duty platform. The capabilities of them were greater than much of what GM was producing. If Ford brought it back with a diesel engine I'd definitely buy one.
I want one of these for a zombie apocalypse vehicle.
They are not that big as legend goes, there are way larger vehicles on the road that you can buy and drive nowadays...
It's 2 ft short than my extended cab long bed f350 lol it's still much bigger that 80%of the vehicles out there.
What??? Short of full sized pickups, you won't find a truck as big as these beasts
@@tedray5687 See, your F350 beats Excursion by whole 2 ft so your truck is larger, and that you can buy brand new these days. Just to mention Escalade ESV are same size as Excursion too, that can be bought brand new.
90's Dodge Rams also had a V10 with a 4-speed auto, but could ALSO be had with a 5-speed manual!
They actually did make a red excursion, don't know about cherry red but definitely red.
It was a battle between Ford and GM for who could engineer and build the biggest SUV with the biggest engine on the market. GM came out with the Suburban 2500 with its 8.1 V8, and Ford with this Excursion and its V10. BTW, if you're going diesel with the Excursion, the 7.3 is the way to go. It doesn't have as much power as the 6.0 that replaced it, but it's significantly more reliable.
Pass everything but a gas station
The center console wasn't originally upholstered. So the clip would've made more sense hadn't the owner modified it.
It came like that when I bought it. I'll leave it the way it is. Elbow likes the softness lol
@@tedray5687I’d leave it as well, comfort comes first 👍
Ngl I really like the Excursion V10 because of how big is the SUV and I can already see that I can put a turbo on it
this thing is a beast
This was the biggest SUV Ford had made to compete with the Chevy Suburban
GM had two different "sizes" (for lack of a better word) for the Suburban, the regular 1500 that competed with the Expedition, and the heavy duty 2500 that competed with the Excursion. That one got an 8.1 liter V8.
that clip padded top is not OEM
Sweet truck
These are great engines, but like the 5.4, they had a tendency to shoot spark plugs through the aluminum heads. Had they used iron heads instead, this probably would never have been a problem. So if you're in the market for an Excursion, definitely go with the Power Stroke, and not the Triton.
Screams 2000s utility americana.
I love the excursion, always will. Only obvious issue is that it is HEAVY and doesn't get the best mileage from them. It might be good as a camping/road trip vehicle, but even with the diesel option, it is not very fuel efficient. It has room for days, is strong enough and heavy enough to haul things though. Ford kind of missed the mark on the excursion, and I believe that is why Ford discontinued them.
Try a V10 diesel in a Touareg
The moon rover probably had a better gas mileage than this truck 😅
They could bring back the excursion as a hybrid or EV
I think the real reason you don't see F-250/2500 based SUVs anymore (I believe they made a 2500 Suburban with a Duramax too) is because of how much the F-150/1500 platform has changed now compared to 20 years ago. An F-150 today is almost as capable as the F-250 of yesteryear. I mean think about it, a Tundra or F-150 can tow 12,000 pounds at that point if you need to tow more than that... you probably need a fifth wheel trailer so get a truck. At the point where the current Expedition and Sequoia are so capable I just don't see where a modern 2500 based SUV fits into any use case or need.
Unfortunately the expedition/navigator that replaced this doesn't have the tow rating the excursion has. Same with the suburban. Power yes. But can't handle the weight because everyone went with independent rear suspension.
Was it ever available with a manual transmission?
No
@@ghosttoast8610 Bummer, then it's a 2007 3/4 ton 6 speed manual transmission Suburban for me.
ah yeahhhhh. i like for sure v10 yeahhh. bfb yeah.
Imagine Ford making a comeback with this car being a hybrid or electric
The best American SUV ever made ❤
Pep Boys special plastic stick on hood scoops.
It came with it and I'll afraid of taking them off haha
Give me a 9 seater any day.
Looks like the hood scoops are off of a Dodge Ram.
"They're good too!"
Zack you should let your sense of humor out more often man.
Nothing ever summarized what is wrong with the world quite as well as the Ford Excursion.
Damn
Shout out to the owner for letting you burn 60 dollars in gas to let you do this test!
Anything for Zack!
"Canyonero..."
It's actually sad they gave it to you on an empty tank😂,, like tf? They should've let you do some burnouts and beat on it a lil bit, not like it can't handle it🤷,, but of course the person you chose to review from was broke💸
That was the point of the review I left it empty because it's a v10 lol
Thats a school bus. They cancelled them because they are overkill and cringe worthy at the pump.
Maybe it’s a good thing the excursion isn’t made anymore because if it was I bet you it would have 6 less cylinders than it did back in 2003, which would make for a pretty unreliable vehicle. Even if the thing had 800hp, anything less than 8 cylinders would constantly be put under lots of stress pulling around something of this size.
Ford expeditions seem to manage, so do explorers.
It would have the super duty engines if it were a true 2500 platform. Otherwise it’s just an expedition
Ford got rid of this monstrosity because they wised up and realized nobody needs to drive a short bus around. Anyone who drives one probably rode one, no offense.
Nah fam. I definitely didn't ride in one lol
People love them there great family haulers and tow pigs
some people are work driven work horses and need a tow rig.
@@TwoDollarGarargeLike he said, people who aren't very intelligent. That sums up people who have a lot of kids to a T.
@themidnighttavern6784 thanks for the insult I'm 1 of 5 kids
It's kinda weird that you think a 4 speed auto is strange. Still scratching my head over that one. It's a 2003, that's what we had back then. You were probably still in diapers so you don't remember.
Not really. Most were well into 5 speeds. Hell, ford kept the 3 speed into the mid 90s lol
@@tedray5687 most? nope. do your research. Not in '03
@@woonjakeYou’re right. I daily an 04 sequoia with a 4 speed. Didn’t get the 5 until 05.
