It’s interesting to see a ‘year later’ vid with all the good & bad. It certainly looks good and minimalist. Not ridiculously crowded for the space. I think i’d put the coffee table hinges on the board tops. Straight away you double your work space.
Best build that I have found! I want something similar for my 6 1/2” bed RAM 2500. Keep the sink. Make the shelf large enough for my small microwave. Make the cabinet to fit my Ecoflow Delta Max. Make the bed expansion board hinged to flip up as a backrest. Add a shelf behind the cab for my Dometic fridge/ freezer. Wish you were nearer to SW CO!
So cool, I do a lot of similar trips. This is how I’m building out my Ram. I bought the Renogy Phoenix, smaller than what he has and I’ll just charge it in the cab whit the 12v port. I’m skipping the fan and sink and adding a mr buddy heater (I’m in Montana). Otherwise this is the perfect floor plan ! Great build!
Thank you for this video. Great idea to do follow up on builds helps us all decide on what works for our own build. More please, especially on small med size trucks. I think with gas prices going higher and higher more Vehical campers are concerned with spending $100 or more on gas to go free backwoods camping, since we have to travel further to find campsites. awesome guys , good job and nice to hear from the customer again for a recap , what works what is actually used and what isn't . good quality job ! simple is best .
I get a lot of dust in my box camper when driving on gravel. I just discovered that if I crack the passenger side window in the camper, I get far less dust. I think it's because it equalizes the vacuum that normally builds up from wind passing overhead as I drive.
I have tried opening the side windows but found that I got more dust in doing that. The gasket kits helped a lot but is not perfect. I have read a lot of different theories on this but not really seen anything that is convincing. My thought now is that it is not bad and I am out enjoying nature so a little dust is all just part of the experience.
I know that we drive a lot of gravel roads as a kid and my dad always opened the vent in the car, then left the windows closed. That built up pressure in the car and stopped dust from getting in through all the cracks and stuff. I have been thinking of making a sort of scoop out of sheet metal that I could attach to the outside of one window. Then, when traveling on gravel I could open that window a tiny bit which would pressurize the inside of the camper. A winter project for me.
I was looking at the same exact truck/Colorado Diesel, 4dr, long bed, diesel. This is exactly what I'm looking for...but I am [hopefully] getting a different truck. We'll see.
Great update video! Super helpful. Since you mention DIY Outback plans, it’d be awesome to see an update video of your previous epic Outback build (Asian girl doing the 6-month trip)!
Looking at the 2022 Ford Ranger. It will be 2 inches wider and 2 inches longer than the 2021. Extended Cab with the 6 Foot Bed with this setup would be great.
I used to live in Australia for a bit and did a few builds, I would recommend my good friend Dan hes in Newcastle, NSW. Does awesome builds! instagram.com/vans_bydans/
@@SolidWoodWorx Very nice build! With the camper shell and build and all the gear I’d imagine it’s easy to start pushing the payload max. Also have to remember the people in the vehicle count as payload. Thx!
I really love this build. I saw the build video. Did the wood just darken naturally or did it darken with a clear coat? Did the coat make it waterproof?
Hey brother, have you done any builds for fly fisherman? I am in Montana and would love to know of any fly fishing mods or ideas you would have for fly rod/ accessories storage
@@SolidWoodWorx thanks for replying....you did a outback or Forester and the layout is sick maybe I could email you and do a similar design ? Take care be safe cheers Brian legend
Very nice build, just wondering how you made it so the drawer and cabinet area are able to be moved in and out? I had a build I did based off yours here and it just tanked my gas mileage because I couldn't get it in/out without disassembling the whole thing.

Very fun getting the updates from the user!

This is the most inspiring and practical build I've seen yet. Thanks for sharing!
Really enjoyed how this video delicately balanced something fancy and also very practical.

I was in my Nissan Frontier for a year, but felt unsafe sleeping because the cap window wouldn't lock securely . so I got into a small van.
I travel solo and I always thought a 16" Airstream would be nice. I'm liking this more and more.
It’s an awesome way to go and WAY easier than a trailer. It is a bit minimal though but totally comfortable.
That's a great idea about the rear window. You would want to have options in a crisis, for sure.
Great to see you again! Miss your content dude!
Great update! You did an awesome, functional build. Love your work and creativity. Best wishes!

That is correct I have a had a lot of customers give me there different thesis on how to keep dust out!
Great comment, I will try this

I would love to but she lives up in Washington now and I believe is selling it or it is already sold!

Great job! Love your builds and love your vids.
I love your set up
Sweetness! Wish I had a fan lol 😂
You can have mine if you have a solution for filling the hole in my topper. ;)

Hi, I have a Toy Tac. Have you ever built a bed platform that folds up? I am carting bees, compost and manure in the in between.
I have not
Thanks! Well I'll give it a go...
Does the goal zero come with instructions on how to wire to truck (vehicle)
No
Where do I even start to even ask anyone like this to build a project for me
Cabinet maker etc
Wish you traveled around the world as a job lol

@@SolidWoodWorx no way lol get back here asap lol haha ok thankyou deadset legend thanks
Take care be safe and thanks for ya help
Suspension upgrade to handle the additional weight or truck cap and build out? No body ever mentions this topic on these builds.
Its not ask much weight as you think. Maybe 300lbs tops. Thats 2 passengers. He normally camps solo.

What is the carpet. Do you have a plan/blueprint of this?
I do not, the carpet is just from a local electronics store.
Quick question - Maybe I missed it in this video or in the build video, but what did you do for drainage? Is there a drain hole in the wheel well?
Nevermind, I caught your mention of this at 7:20!
I really love this build. I saw the build video. Did the wood just darken naturally or did it darken with a clear coat? Did the coat make it waterproof?
He put a few coats of poly on it and I believe that darken a bit over a year also
When will your schedule open up for more builds...
I am not planning on taking on custom work again, sorry

I have not done any mods for fishing gear sorry.
good content, enjoyed it. Can you speak a little slower?
Awesome bro I want to email you and get some.plan build for a Subaru Forester 2002 model
Spewing you don't have a company in Aus mate your a beast
Thanks for the words, i dont have any plans for that model sorry man.

Was fan installed by Leer or other company, ?
I installed it
I notice that the builds you do on trucks I don't see anyone with a full bed rug in the back.
Do you recommend not having one when doing a build?
What do you mean by full bed rug? Like a stock carpet piece?

Each piece has about 6-8 screws into the floor to make it removable
