Love the build! I'm on my 4th version of outfitting my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport. My third build was done by my son in law who is a finishing carpenter .. so we built all the cabinetry like you did. And where is it now? On the garage floor. I built a place where there was almost no room left for me! LOL Now I have my bed and that is a raised deck to level me out but has storage under it. Now all my cooking gear and food go into a 'larder' that I can remove and it becomes my seat outside and cooking area too. All my clothing now goes into stuff sacks that can be compressed .. the sacks are also waterproof. Now for sleeping or just relaxing I have way more room .. when I pack up, the big Plano plastic box has wheels on one end and I lift it in and strap in down .. all hard items in my rig are secured. Hope you don't take offense that I may be 'dissing' you work .. it is gorgeous .. just saying what I ended up doing.

I drive a Santa Fe and have been watching van build videos for the last year looking forward to the day when I can get a van. I'm so glad people like this guy are also on UA-cam. I realize now that there's plenty I can do with my Santa Fe so I don't have to wait or spend money on a van. I've already got some ideas that I'm going to try out.
I would mount the solar panel towards the front of the roof rack. Having it angled upward like that is creating lift and a force trying to pull it off rather then pushing it down. The organizer is amazing.
This is the first subaru conversion I've seen that utilizes the space in the spare tire well. Thank you! It annoys me so much when folks just cover it up lol.
Great build! It just needs a Carbon Monoxide Detector, Smoke Detector, and a Fire Extinguisher! For those saying the wood has no finish and will stain, it may have a clear matte finish on it.
Hands down THE BEST suv camper setup of all the ones I've seen. Only thing I wish were added were a tap w/ pump for doing dishes and showering when necessary
I have built out my Hyundai Tucson in much the same way. The mattress to get is the Exped Megamat 10. It rolls up to not much if you need to transport something in the sleeping space. It's also incredibly comfortable and holds its shape and air like you wouldn't believe.
Really quality work my friend. Add some access to the cabinet space from the left back/passenger door and you can grab items from outside the vehicle when you need them in a hurry after getting out of the drivers seat. That and some coat hooks for your puffy/misc. clothes on that 45 degree section above the water tank. That’s how I rigged “the garage” on my minivan buildout and it is a dream. Rain coat/puffy are right there after you hop out of the drivers seat depending on weather. Not to mention my rack and haul bags. 👍 Also, using a Kreg jig on 1/2” ply worked well throughout on my rig, you’d be surprised how sturdy that stuff is on edge or even over a 2’ span when laid flat. Again awesome attention to detail and quality work brother! 👍 Thanks for the tour.
WATERTANK is going to be heavy to manibulate other than for mending. Consider a pump and hose (or funnle). Otherwise truely excellent sample of execution(elegant efficiancy) (Mention perhaps that the type and thickness of wood can double the weight fast...)
What kind of battery is that? Lead acid batteries can let off hydrogen gas while charging and hydrogen sulfide if accidentally overcharged. Sealed batteries wont gas off unless internal pressure gets too high. While its unlikely you can get an explosive mixture from a single battery of that size, it can still be health hazardous. Great build, very nice quality.
Very clever build. You should be proud of that one, I am impressed. When you walked around to show the water I was expecting an above rack outdoor shower with her outdoor lifestyle. Thinking about pulling out the tank-corner was smart, It surprised me, I would have had to make that one...after the build, lol, Thanks for letting me see it! I’d say keep up the good work, but with your talent... I think, you don’t have a choice!
Cut a notch on the end of the water jug holder facing the door, then you can position the jug spigot down (fits in the notch) to just draw water while it stays sitting in the holder.
Great work! I assume she’ll be sealing and finishing all the wood surfaces. Excellent use of space and approach to the layout--it’s a really small car interior, so you did a terrific job of meeting all her needs.
The only thing that would make this better is if it were a VW TDI Sportwagen which gets more than TWICE the MPG and will last 2-3 times longer in terms of miles of use. I have had 2 subies blow up at 130k while running Mobile 1 and have 3 TDIs now, one has over 500k on it and runs like new. That one gets over 53 MPG too!
Great job getting all that storage space in there! The only thing l would want different is for the lid over the battery part to be able to clear the boxes on the side and open fully. Or have the boxes on the side set back further.
awesome build! i think it would be good to have a door on the other side of that storage so you don't have to walk around to the other side of your vehicle if you forget something. you could just put a sliding door lock on that side so it doesn't come open when you put stuff in it. i'm referring to 4:17 of the video.
Nice build. Love the interior. Very well made. I wouldn't put anything on the roof though. That saves on fuel and you get a lot less wind-noise. You don't need solar while driving, you can charge your batteries of the alternator. Put the solar panel somewhere inside and put it on a stand when you need it (and point it to the sun). You've could have made the spare wheel well accessible or you can bring a tire repair kit.
Cool build! I have 3 suggestions for her: -If you are going to mount a spare on the top go to a scrap yard a buy a full size wheel -Connect your car battery to your solar one. (Good practice to have a disconnect switch between them) Your alternator will recharge your solar. Also if your car battery ever gets low, you have a backup to start the car. -If you have time make a tent to go over your hatch, rainy or hot days will be better!
This is not my car its for the customer i just did the build. As for your suggestions i suggested a dual battery isolator to the customer but she wanted the solar. The isolator does help with dual charging for sure. But as you said about using it to jump start your car sometimes that doesnt work because you need a battery with high cranking amps, these solar batteries dont have that. The tent over hatch idea would be sweet, but also with these subarus, for some reason they drain the battery when the hatch is open!

This is perfect. I want it for my jeep!
Nice build 👍👍👍. Super nice 👌 👍 👏
Love this! One of the more creative builds I've seen to date.
This man deserves more subscribers! Talented artist.
Great job on the design and build. Tight area to work with on an a Outback. Well done.
Super cool! Wonder if you could you do something like this but leave the seats in? Would you just lose the under build storage or would the build not work still... I'll do some sleuthing!
Possibly
Just use your imagination and get creative with the storage.
Damn that's a pretty cool set up and its not even an SUV.
Imagine what he could do with that SUV
Or a box car.
Awesome build. Love all the sliding storage areas.
The best n genius use of space..
Nice build!!! But I have to ask, how do you get to the spare tire??
It’s on the roof rack now
Omg, I love this and how you executed her ideas so perfectly!!
Awesome build! Any idea what the interior length is from the inside of the tailgate to behind the front seats?
I think it was 6ft
I love my Subaru, and I love this build!!! Fabulous!!!!!
Would LOVE this exact setup in my 2019 4runner! (alternate place for battery though) Wish you were in Tx! Great work. Awesome finished product! PVC on her roof rack would have been great for water storage..Would love plans..
I absolutely love this build out. Great job!!!!!
My only concern would be the rear suspension will be overloaded and sag like crazy. Maybe some stiffer springs and a slight lift would be good.
She removed the rear seats at least 100lbs and then i added maybe 350lbs. So 250lbs extra which is nearly 2 passengers so not much difference
@@SolidWoodWorx 250 plus all her gear. My Subaru benefited a great deal with stiffer springs/ shocks and lift when fully loaded.
Wowzer. You rock, Brian!
This conversion is amazing.
Does she have a UA-cam channel at all? Awesome setup you created there, gave me some ideas to ad to my draw system in my toyota prado.
Dont think she does
Nice build. Thank you for the video.
Beautiful work, best I’ve seen on UA-cam.
