The fact that Emperor Belos has canonically said the words "round boi" before being revealed to be as dark a character as he is will never not be funny.
Motherfucker was way ahead of his time already making memes.
I love how the show establishes immediately how time travel works in this universe with the gag of Lillith kicking her own head. Showing that you going back in time has already happened and everything you do is just fullfilling things as they are meant to happend. Wich tells us that Luz helping Belos isn't really Luz's fault
No she still did it because she time traveld in the first place witch means that it happend. If she didn't time travel then Belos would not even be emperor and things would be diffrent. With this logic Belos has done nothing wrong because its all going to happen anyway so its not really his fault if its destiny.
@@samuelclayhills3298 except it's entirely Belos' fault that he did any of that, because he chose to do it. It was always going to happen because he will always CHOOSE to be the worst.
Bingo. It's not Luz's fault Philip/Belos is a manipulative monster, it's not her fault she helped him out of kindness. She's a victim as much as everyone else he's swindled, only Luz can't accept that something _isn't_ her fault. That's her struggle.
@@samuelclayhills3298Found Belos’ alt
This comment section is hilarious
Why are y'all trying to assign fault in a canonically (as of this episode) deterministic fictional universe 😂
1:11 Flora D'esplora is a Dora the Explorer reference. She has a similar outfit and haircut, her palisman's a blue monkey like Boots, and her voice actress also voiced Dora's mother.
And with Amanda the Adventurer 2, horror game inspired by Dora, coming later this year. Fascinating all this is happening.
this literally only just now hit me, I am uncultured
And the mummy jerky Lilith mentions shortly afterward seems like a Futurama reference.
@@D_YellowMadness It's also a real life reference. Humans are weird.
@@Ozymandias2x Oh... Oh no.
took phillip forever to find the glyphs, but not luz "almost like the world didn't want him to find them"
Well to be fair, Luz had Eda as a mentor. Phillip had to do it on his own.
You know you're right. Looking back at the final episode this actually makes WAY more sense. One of this little things the writers did extremely well with proper call backs to earlier episodes.
She finds the light glyph right after making up with King too!
I also think it's because Phillip was a lil witch hater that didn't spend too much time observing the world..rather was trying to burn it.
Gee, I wonder why?
"The emperor says he's looking forward to meeting you, human". IT'S A TIME LOOP!
11:54 Phillip's notes were never burned in the first place. The burning effect was just the echo mouse's projections "running out of film" so to speak.
Belos must have an insanely good memory to remember both Luz and Lilith hundreds of years later, and then STILL be an angry petty bitch about it.
On one hand, I think Lilith permanently injured his nose so it makes sense that he remembers. On the other hand, he tried to murder them first so he should've taken it as a lesson.
@@D_YellowMadnessPhillip? Doing something wrong? Perish the thought, say it ain't so! /s
@D_YellowMadness It's impressively bad how he managed to avoid self reflection and accountability for hundreds of years, then proceeded to do worse and worse shit.
Just an endless spiral of heinous actions.
If you didn't catch it...Flora D'Splora is a reference to Dora the Explorer.
She even has a whip that bears a slight resemblance to Boots
AND is voiced by Dora’s mom 😂
I love how the entire episode, we're watching everyone talk to Eda about her father, and Hooty even says "how'd he get that scar on his-" and we assume it's his eye, but Eda feels worse about the damage she did to his hand, because it took away the thing he was passionate about, Palisman carving. Such good writing.
I think it’s an interesting detail that Lilith punched Phillip so hard that it permanently changed the shape of his nose. Also, the person he doodled in the margins of his journal looks oddly familiar…
Which also means Belos knew exactly who Lilith was when he hired her and always planned to get revenge.
@@DanGamingFan2846Talk about petty, lmao 😂
@@DanGamingFan2846or that he needed her to stay alive long enough to help him learn the Light Glyph
@@DanGamingFan2846 In my head cannon, over the centuries Belos made a hobby out of screwing with the Clawthorne family due to their connection to Evelyn, the witch he hates the most.
I love how time pools inconsistently appear and any shenanigans that happen because of them have already happened. Closed loop time travel is always simpler
you may not have noticed, but Lilith's punch broke Philip' nose, that is why Belo's nose is like that
I love how they handled the time travel and how everything that happens in the past has already happened. Notice that the skeleton of the guy who reveled himself to death was missing his helmet in the present because Luz took it for her disguise in the past, and in the diary entry in the beginning you can see drawings of Luz and Lilith scratched out on either side of the doorway.
One detail about Lilith that's neat, when we first meet her she seems all together and proper but later we see she's dorky and a bit of a mess, and we even see her palismin is the same out of staff form.
I just realized. When the trolls said 'that' d make pretty good kindeling' when almost burning Belos/Philips journal, Eda almost did that to Luzs Azura book in the first episode when Luz first arrived in the boiling isles
Oh no Emperor Belsus was the imposter amogus the whole time. He even has a 60 year streak. Gotta love that he decided to spend most of his time as a hobo instead of being anything else just because he hates witches that much.
Eda’s dad is really cool. Never once blamed Eda for his injuries and even encouraged her to leave her regrets behind and move past them. That’s some great support.
Not sure if you just missed it when they first arrived in the past, or if it still counts as a spoiler, but...
"Wait! There was no wild Magic!?"
*Clocks gun* "Never has been."
15:07
"perhaps we were destined to meet"
"I can't wait to meet you again soon..."
Title: "Changing the Past"
Episode: Establishs that Time Travel does not change the past
I wonder who this collector person is, or better yet, what kinds of things they collect. Cards? Figurines? Funko Pops? Skulls?
Just you wait
@@SilverScribe85 I've finished the series :p
Hear me out, what if the main thing he collects is "knowledge"? That would explain why the main thing Philip wants from him is information. ( I finished the series but I will not confirm nor deny wether anything said here is true :P )
Just a small non-spoiler bit: I find it adorable that Eda's Dad named his palisman 'Toast." I think that's just the cutest thing.
Oh shoot I cut myself, now I have to worry if I’ve messed up the timeline. -A Titan, probably
When Lilith kicked her own head before she went into the past it established the rules of time travel. Everything you do when you travel to the past has already been done, so you can't change the past.
Most people called Phillip being Belos a while ago, but I appreciate this episode confirming the theories. Especially because most of us were, like, "man, I wonder what happened to Phillip that made him become so cold and hateful" and... it was nothing. He's always been a backstabbing prick. Stay mad.
I can’t wait for Alicia to meet *the baby.* No spoilers, if you know you know. I think she’ll be really happy with their specific brand of chaos.
The man, myth, the goat has returned.... Steveeee!!!
8:04 Shake it Lily baby!! 🤘🏻🥰🖤💚
This episode is cool because we see the real Lilith whose finally being herself. In season 1 she was burdened with her goal for curing Eda and serving Belos which we see from Hunter in this season is particularly brutal in it's regimented living style. Early season 2 we saw her adjusting to the curse and without magic which was clearly stressing her out. Now we see her pursuing a career and being herself, though what is truly funny is only Luz could see her for being "cool aunt Lilith" for her shenanigans whereas Eda see's her as a nerd.
Time loop travel can be a problem like that. Luz didn't find out how to make a portal, she didn't stop Philip from getting closer to his goal, and she definitely didn't create a hundred copies of herself trying to stop the bomb from going off.
Oh wait, wrong time loop.
Also Philip was born around the Salem witch trials, so yeah he has that level of hatred twords witches
6:41 Take that, depression!
9:17 That's the same kid who said "Yay! Now I can summon the dark lord!" But this is the distant past. How old is she?
Lilith at peak attractiveness this episode! ❤
I love this episode for showing how much of a dork Lilith is. Never change girlie, there's so many people who would find deadwardian architecture just as interesting as you
I feel like a complete dingus for not realizing Belos was Philip until I got to the end of this episode
Most people didn't realized it either or had suspicions.
Hoo boy this episode right HERE!!!
I knew Philip was suspicious he’s belos all along.
I don't think the time travel would be a butterfly effect, it's more of a cannon event
8:06 is peak adorkableness (& thus, my fave Lilith moment) :3
5:55 ok, they aren't freedom units. It's one unit per shotgun-eagle
Oh no if that's how time travel works here Luz is going to be devastated when she finds out who Belos is and what she unintentionally helped cause.
did she change the past or did the past already happen and was this a canon event??
but hey, that's just a theory, a film theory
It's a 'this always happened this way' sort of thing. Which is probably a big part of why Belos went easy on Luz before.
This is SUCH a phenomenal show I’ve watched it all but will watch Alicia’s reaction to it and obviously I won’t spoil anything because I’m not a vile scum who gets off to ruining everyone’s fun and happiness
Really wish we would have gotten some interactions between Luz and Dell.
13:19 MAJOR REVELATION INCOMING!
four more episodes!!
6:57 Well he wasn’t wrong.
So at this point the audience knows Phillip is (somehow) Belos, just not the how he goes from this to that or why, however Luz doesn't. All she knows is Phillip turned out to be a jerk and nothing deeper yet. She let her idea of "another human was here" make her forget how awful humans can be and invent a kinship in her mind.
I hope they stick with this and never redeem Belos I hate that trope especially when he clearly has no qualities worth redeeming
Hoot!
Literally any time Alecia goes like “oh who is the other guy, who is the brother?” I wince so hard
It was so much better when we didn't knew the truth
philip did infact stay mad
