Darius supporting Hunter at the end really threw me for a loop when I first saw this episode. Turns out he isn’t such a bad guy, just a bit vain.
And that’s what makes him fabulous. 🫡
He's a bit of a tsundere lol
And the stuff he says to the kids about attacking a coven head sounds super evil, until you realize he's just trying to scare them away from doing anything that dangerous again. Some of the other coven heads would make them into a hat for that kind of defiance.
It’s fascinating to see Hunter acknowledge and admire Willow as one of the strongest witches he’s ever met, without knowing all the personal growth she underwent to become the confidant, independent witch she is today, which made the revelation that, like him, she was also seen as half-a-witch hit even harder.
Another interesting tidbit, the Golden Guard sigil on his cloak is similar to the emblem on the Gravesfield, Connecticut sign in “Yesterday’s Lie”.
Yes, Hunter is the first who only ever knows Willow as the powerful and confident witch she is today, which make their dynamic very interesting.
@@bouboulroz even in the future episode (that I obviously won’t say the name of or explain in great detail) intel on Willow described her to be very meek and insecure, something Hunter couldn’t even fathom coming from Willow seeing as she’s grown this confidence that is still new to the rest of the isles that’s spanned over like a couple of months. Tiny foresight details like that really help make this show great
Hunter most important mission so far: touching grass
*insert some random joke about Willow*
3:26 Not only that, but Willow kept the braids from Amity, showing how much their friendship has healed and improved.
Darius is a real fun character, in the beginning you can kinda tell that one of the reasons he doesn't like Hunter is because he follows orders unquestioningly, hence his "You're very good at doing EXACTLY what you're told." line and how he looks down on him, he saw him as spineless and desperate for approval/authority. He's so critical of him because Darius was trained by the previous Golden Guard, who was apparently a force to be reckoned with (And probably something of a rebel given how Darius said he's make the previous Golden Guard proud). He also disapproved of capturing the students when asking if Hunter can really wear his cloak proudly after that.
And he wants that for Hunter; for him to be his own person. To not always blindly follow orders and think for himself and want things for himself. To not always listen to Belos.
As an avid fan of Hunter as a character I ADORE this episode- it showcases how he's different from other kids his age, how he's been raised AND is the start of a brilliant arc
Steve is an unsung hero at this point in the show
If you never saw the Show before, man you are in for a Ride in the next episodes
steve is unironically my favorite character in the show. such a fun side character
It was cute seeing the fandom embrace him as just a fun lil dude
The fun thing about Luz and Amity's theories about the author is that they were actual theories that the fans had been coming up with. The show's team really did pay attention to the fandom.
This episode flipped a lot of peoples' opinions about Darius. It's like Zangief said in Wreck-It Ralph: "You are a _bad_ guy, but this does not mean you are a bad _guy."_
Amity and Luz were basically repeating all the fan theories out there at the time, with an acknowledgement it was okay to have your own stories.
It's extremely obvious in retrospect, but I only just realized the significance of Hunter calling himself "half-a-witch" in front of Willow, who was bullied with the same term.
The "Nose Girl" is called Tinella Nosa, and she's the story stand-in character of (and is voiced by) series creator Dana Terrace.
What makes it sad is Hunter didn’t even try to defend himself when he thought he was going to be hit like he was use to accepting physical punishment
Dang... I didn't even realize that 😢
7:59 That would require Hunter notice where his foot is while staring down the gullet of an angry gryphon that wants to eat him.
22:54 The first hint that Darius isn't the asshole he likes to present himself as.
9:38 I DIDNT NOTICE ON MY FIRST WATCH HOW MUCH LORE THIS ONE SCENE HAD
Caleb was the first name he thought up. I like the implications of that.
Actually it was flapjacks first pick.
I forget which episode, but one time in the library, we see a notice on a crystal ball saying how a large amount of flotsam ended up washing up pn shore.
Pretty sure that's were those books came from.
Not the first person to point this out by any means, but Boscha had her eyes closed, which means she _somehow_ knows a passage from the book by heart. $5 says Amity tried getting her in to the series at some point to make her a little less insufferable to hang out with.
I remember this episode had some backlash because apparently a character working out and having a bit of a growth spurt giving her a more fit appearance is body shaming or something.
We could say that Alicia's prediction was... on the nose.
🥁 badum tsss
I love that Viney turning on Luz so fast back in the detention episode gets expanded into a weird character trait where shes overly serious about "betrayal"
Lumity: I sleep.
Huntlow: Real shit.
Camilos/Odalos/Odalador: Ascended.
Have you considered: Camilraeda?
4:56 Luz called Amity beautiful in Spanish.
Funny thing is even if people noticed you were photoshopping your ears, they'd never consider it might be because you don't have human ears.
14:48 There's that kid again. The one who wanted to summon the dark lord & also showed up in the distant past.
What You May Have Missed: If you go back to "Yesterday's Lie," there is a sign that says "Welcome to Gravesfield." Under the sign you can see a symbol and it looks exactly like the symbol of The Gold Guard. Indicating the connection Belos/Philip has with Gravesfield.
Again. ANOTHER Ship I did NOT see coming…but a Welcomed One🥰
bro really just went FINALLY THINKING FOR YOURSELF EH! GOOD! DO THAT!
Between Willow, her team, and Darius, a lot of friends were made in this one! Not that I’m complaining 😌
Darius' turn at the end is one of my favorite moments, mostly because of how well his character has been handled so far: it's surprising, but it still makes perfect sense, in retrospective.
Important note: Steve is the coolest and could have gotten his own episode. Steve was robbed
I like to recommend amphibia after the owl house since it is the sister show of it
Luz and Amity's theories about the author were real fan-theories the fandom had come up with. The episode was basically poking fun at how everyone thought the author was going to be some big reveal.
Just a curiosity about Steve, the emperor coven guy that get punched, he is in Lilith's birthday party. I like Steve.
I wander if the named Caleb was something Hunter unlocked here, or was a name his palisman had chirped to him that only he understood. Either way, that is some seed planting.
20:12 It really was as if he just sold the books as is and marketed them as human items, he could’ve made a lot more cash. Instead he wasted funds editing preexisting books in an attempt to pass them as books from the BI
We've seen Willow exercising in a few episodes now... I like how, by indicating to the audience that she's in really good shape now, the show subtly tells the viewer that _fit_ does not equal _thin._
This episode is my favorite, its so nice seeing Hunter slowly breaking free from his brainwashing.
also, Almost forgot to comment, but 3 more episodes!
I love how Hunter was set up as this genius teen prodigy only to get dragged around by willow any time he acted up
I'm so happy Hunter is getting real friends he needs that so much right now hopefully he becomes closer with the rest and abandons Belos or at least sees who he really is and decides to be more himself rather than just *The Golden Guard*
11:15, these are all fanficks and TheRoundtable theroes.
This is when Viney became my favorite side character, partly b/c her dramatic-ness reminds me of Not-So-Average-Fangirl😉
19:34 it's cuz Tinella Nasa is the OH creator self insert
I don't know if anyone mentioned this yet (since I don't read all the comments) but Tinella is Dana Terrace (the creator of the owl house) self insert
Darius: *picks on a teenage boy for being too subservient to his evil, abusive, manipulative uncle*
Darius: *is nice once*
Fans: Awww, Darius is best dad
Gotta say...this is one of my favorites in the series.
Hunter: That's how I met your mother! 9:12
I'm sleepy, time to take my daily dose of owl house!
Its legitimately crazy to me how many people ive seen throw out a Tiny Nose guess for this episode. XP. Like, its not out of nowhere, sure. But the show doesnt really telegraph it. X3
19:10, So has anyone told Alicia that Tinella Nosa is voiced by the show's creator?
This is one of my favourite episodes 💕
I just wanna say I LOVE your reactions to Owl House, MHA, ect!
It makes sense now why Darius was dissapointed in Hunter. Hunter was following Belos' orders and that's why he softened up to him when he let Willow and the gang go. Darius was pretending to work for Belos all along, as well as Raine. It was a test.
Prepare for angst!
What a great episode for Hunter!
Hope next time we see him will be just as wonderful
Darius might not be Hunters dad, but he's the closest thing to a father hunter has imo.
Season 2 Gus is a fully different character. Aw puberty.
I have no idea why they chose to use Tibbles here instead of Piniet. (The lizard publisher guy.)
He already had Tiny Nose in a contract.
Because if it was Piniet it would mean that Tinella was actually writing it, and would need an explanation for how it got into the human world and why. Tibbles copying a book he found and trying to scam people by pretending that a witch wrote it makes more sense and doesn't have any loose threads.
I'm not saying spoilers, but Alicia you gotta remember the name Caleb.
Its funny that she still thinks nose girl is also foodfanfic writer
Ah yes I began building the ship for my OTP this episode
Steve is the best character! I love him! Steve #1!
I’m all fairness, once you… find out, you won’t blame Darius for being a little sassy to Hunter.
Bro evolved a Ghastly
The start of Huntlow or Winter!!!!
SPOILERS BELOW
9:44 "What's your name?"
"Caleb"
I can't believe this was foreshadowed so early on :O
yes, Darius is not a bad guy.. he's just his fabulous self
I know this is out of the blue, but another great TV show to watch is Black Dynamite.
Vtuber Alicia is just Tiny Nose in a blue dress and the real Alicia is unaware of her existence.
Hunter x Willow!!!
Next episode is gonna be...tough
Good luck 👍
W steve
Anyone else like Hunter because it's headcanoned that he's autistic?
I mean, I'm autistic, and I can see it. :P
Engagement
Writing a comment
Stopping people from saying "first" because it's obnoxious.
Ooof, about that...
5:56 NOBODY CARES, BOSCHA! 😝
It's funny how Boscha downgraded from "I WILL SET YOUR EYES ON FIRE" to "I still have more friends than you."
Typical schoolyard bully; once people end up ignoring you, nothing you say matters. Also...Tinela's name is another version of Tiny Nose, a name Dana (and some fans) have given her
You should always go for the most overkill take just to break them and then you have a life time supply of meat to sacrifice to the great old ones.
first
2nd :D
