With the imposter storyline everyone was expecting to encounter an insidious monster, and instead we got a precious cinnamon roll who should be protected at all cost.
Btw is it me or VA for V is doing way better than Amethyst? Like something IS better about acting I just don't know why
@@dmitriypi6983 I mean, it makes sense, she had more experience with voice acting at the time she dubbed for the Owl House than Steven Universe
Vee is an angel on earth and should be protected AT ALL COSTS
@@Kanamo4781 I guess I just like V way more than Amethyst
We got a precious cinnamon roll, AND the most insidious monster of all… a creepy clout-chasing conspiracy theorist. lol
One of the reasons I love this episode is because it shows how Camila is without a doubt one of the best fictional moms ever.
W Camila for accepting her as a new member of the family
It is not a fair competition the other moms are usually dead
@@r.9820And the ones that arent?
Indeed. Such a supportive parent (meanwhile we got the complete opposite with Odalia)
One thing Inlove about Camila is that as soon as Luz reassures her about Vee, she refers to her as a "strong girl" and an "innocent child," not as a monster or demon.
9:10 Marylin was also mentioned by Grunkle Stan back in Gravity Falls, and many people speculate that Eda was that same woman who ripped him off.
It’s canon that she and Stan are exes they were married for a few minutes while she ripped him off and robbed some other stuff
When this episode first came out, the whole fandom at the beginning was like, "DESTOY THE EVIL IMPOSTER!" but by the end everyone was like, "PROTECT THAT PRECIOUS BABY AT ALL COSTS!"
28:44 That'll be such a good flex:
"I beat cancer just to CREATE you, you little shit!"
god, all the little signs of how bad Luz was treated in the human realm make me so sad. she was afraid Amity'd make fun of her "again" during S2E8, and now we see that she'd rather talk with violent rats than *human high schoolers.*
To be fair Luz was basically the equvivalent of that one weird kid who everyone knew would do some fuck shit later on in life and well considering she brought rockets and live snakes to school she was basically one step a way from actually shooting it upp.
I don't think she was mistreated so much as she's incredibly insecure, because her eccentricities scared a lot of people away, which likley led to her seeing people whispering about her, inflaming her fears.
The Owl House fanbase has a significant overlap with the Steven Universe fanbase, and I cannot tell you how exciting it was to hear V's voice.
So many of us REALLY thought we were gonna Hate This Fraud, This Imposter…but who knew She’s actually just a scared lil sweetie
Something i dont think enough people mention is that Luz was out of her mother's sight for maybe 30 seconds and was whisked away plus replaced and she didn't even notice. That would mess with anyone's head let alone a parent's
V is one of my favorite characters and creatures of the show. As a character, she’s a lost soul looking for a home, and her resentment towards Luz for running away from a good life is understandable given her circumstances.
As a creature her ecology is quite interesting. She learns FAST. But that makes sense as a shapeshifter because she needs to learn fast to fit in before being noticed. It’s great writing.
Something I did not realize before: the girls reading actually fits both Vee and Luz. Their world was rough on them, so they ran away, finding another world, and fitting in better there.
Ooh you're right that's a neat parallel.
Btw I made that mistake before too, but Masha is actually nonbinary. Later we see the nonbinary flag colors on their nails
I love how the cold opening of the episode follows Vee's perspective, so that we're scared alongside her when Luz suddenly appears. Usually, in cartoons with this kind of scenario where a cold opening gets ended with a scare, you're seeing it from the protagonist's side. So the fact that we're following the "Creepy Luz" in that scene primes the audience to think, "Hey, something's not right here", which sets up the true introduction of Vee perfectly.
Haven’t even watched the episode, and I already know Vee now has TWO adoptive mothers.
"and Mo- I mean, Camila" 😭The only thing that upsets me about the Vee storyline is that they didn't manage to squeeze in Vee calling Camila "Mom" on-screen again.
Also: Freeze-frame bonus: Vee's flashback has her nameless, in chains, probably starving... and the moment she gets the chance, she turns around and shields the ratties with her body. ;_;
"Did she did beat him with a chancla?" It *is* the ultimate weapon.
And thus concludes the first half of Season 2
Everything beyond this point was written knowing how little time they had left
This episode always gets me misty eyed
The mom's desperate pleas get me RIGHT in the feels
5:13 Holy shit, how did i not realise this before??! Its because she said "Five"! Thats her actual name :0
Btw, that one kid sitting under the tree with the cards has the same VA as Azula.
It just occurred to me that the cube looking at Vee only appeared when Luz said the word "Five".
We're only missing TWO babies overall, but we got the core cast of babies now
I can think of one (space baby), what's the other?
I think they painted mama Camila as such an empathetic and loving person, that after returning and hearing her daughter's adventures that she would be understanding and not hold Luz to her promise. She seems like the sort of person who would support her daughter even if it meant some personal sacrifices. I get the impressions that they could work it out once they are both safe.
Before this episode: Creepy evil doppelganger
After this episode: *Precious cinnamon roll*
If I recall correctly, after this episode aired they hit us with a mid-season hiatus.
We needed time to let it settle.
I'm African American, but I have felt the power of the chancla, mostly because my mom couldn't find a belt at the time.
Man, I remember my heart breaking on this episode, especially with the theory it put in my head.
With Owl House being all about subverting the usual tropes of Isekai and all the times that the problem of Luz being caught between two realms was brought up and discussed, this episode made me think that the show was going to end with Luz having to choose one realm and forever lose the other, in contrast to how the run-of-the-mill Isekai has the hero return to Earth, to carry on as if they'd never seen or done any of the things they had in that other world.
She'd be crying, trying to stay strong while getting ready to uphold her promise, only to be stopped by Camila. By this point, she'd have learned what the Boiling Isles was to Luz in full. Not some fantasy, not some missing puzzle piece, but a place that she grew into, that grew into her. A place she fit, in a way she couldn't on Earth, that Earth couldn't fulfill in her.
Camila would take her face in her hands, and say something along the lines of "I knew I'd have to say goodbye to you someday, when you would leave to find a place for **you**. Even though I have to let go so much sooner than I thought I would have to, than I wanted to, I am *so proud* of the young woman you've become, and the home you've made, mija."
Thus, with Camila's blessing, the Boiling Isles becomes Luz's home for good, and the realms are sealed from each other. A tearful but hopeful ending, with a message for both sides.
For the child, parting from people you've had by your side all your life as you grow up can be hard, but that doesn't mean you'll be alone, because Family is *never* a static thing. As much as you'll say goodbye to some, you'll meet others who can love you and you can love just as dearly, all without it changing how much those first few meant to you.
For the parent, someday the child won't be a child anymore, and they'll want to go and find their place in the world. It's every parent's fear that the place they find is far from you, that they'll leave you forever, but it could also be the moment where you're proudest of them. Even if it'll likely be the hardest thing you'll ever do, all you can do is have faith that you raised them as best you could.
Of course, if you really HAVE seen the whole series through by the time of posting these, you'll know that wasn't how it played out, but I like to think that I wasn't that far off the mark.
I love how Luz immediate reaction to angry looking rats with glowing eyes talking is "neat! talk to them :D"
Fun fact: Jacob is a member of the Flat Earth Society, as seen with framed certificate of membership hanging in his office.
Love how Alicia wasn't shocked at all from the vertical blink or the fact the she was actually a basilisk. She was just silent. XD
i just realised the guy in the spiked armor is voiced by sonic the hedgehog
And Chris Redfield.
by the way, that one friend of Vee who did the tarot reading is voiced by Azula
The worst part is that if Luz had go to the camp she would most likely meet friends that would have understand her just as Vee did while taking her place. She would have literally everything she wanted if she just choose not run away into her fantasy world.
Dont mess with a Latina mother and the Chancla. Fear la Chancla.
I'll be honest with you, as a south-american, the moment Camilla pulled the chancla I literally got half a second of panic trying to remember what I did wrong until I realize that it was just a cartoon
-I'm five... i mean Vee.
Alicia: Oh thats cute.
Me: That is dark is fvck. She didnt even had a name?
It’s weird because apparently (I only watched this show after it ended), people thought Camila was a terrible mom after this episode, when it has consistently showed just how AWESOME of a mom she was throughout the whole thing. Idk if that was the consensus until Season 3, or if that was just a small minority of the fandom. But yeah, Camila is a fantastic mom.
When the museum guy was doing the big reveal, it made me think of konosoba, how things just come outta left field
its always nice to be reminded that the whole "Camilla is irredeemably bad," thing was a relic of the hiatus between this and the back half of the season. like, i get there was a lot of projection from people with horrible parents/childhoods, and i respect them. but a lot of people were just taking things too far, and getting themselves and others, too worked up into the "perfection or else," box...
18:15 Camila saved the box of stuff that Vee threw out, and booped the aluminum swan. My heart has melted.
I love how this episode made everyone basicly do a 180 on V, first we thought she was some spooky doppelganger & then were all just like "oh no poor baby 😧"
18:14 I love how even after Vee throws out Luz's old stuff, Camila still brought it back inside. Best mom ever! 😭
Rip Jacob Eda acidentally traumatized him into becoming a redditor. Truly a fate worse than death.
Can't really hate the guy he was just trying to get verifed gotta respect the hustle.
Yup. Turns out the imposter was actually a little bean. Poor Vee.
To be fair to the museum guy, we saw everything from the viewpoint of Luz, Camilla and V. But all he knew was the the story of a witch luring 2 brothers away and that monsters have been appearing on Earth for a while. Not saying that he’s not a creep or a moron, but he’s not so much a villain at this point than a misinformed moron who has probably seen a bunch of monster movies.
So... That scene where Camila talks to Vee eye to eye... I could only dream of such an interaction between me and my own parents...
I tried to come out to them as trans but it was met with a "Okay so that's a thing now" kind of a reaction neutral-leaning to negative-ish assuming that this was just another 'phase"
All I want to hear them tell me was that they were happy to have me as a daughter.
I cried the first time I saw that scene years ago, and I'm crying over it again.
Sorry fir the trauma dump but I really wanted to share how much that piece of dialogue meant to me
You know I never thought I'd see Sonic the Hedgehog as a conspiracy theorist, but I'm glad I did
19:42: Oh. You weren't ready.
21:19: Calmilla's best mom!
Fun fact: vee is voiced by michaela deitz who’s also amethyst from Steven universe.
Oh yeah, when it aired this was after the multi-months hiatus and the 180 from "Creepy Luz" and all the evil Doppleganger fan theories to this kid trying to find a home with a tragic past was emotional whiplash, and then the episode hit us with more emotional whiplash. But also get the feeling when luz was describing the Boiling Isles on the car ride she must have left out all the stuff about school and friends and a girlfriend, giving her mom the basics and likely focusing on Vee's backstory so her mom would have some idea of what she was getting into.
Vee is my precious baby and I love her
some fun facts about this episode:
Vee chose her name because the roman numeral for 5 is V (pretty obvious especially if you've read/seen V for Vendetta)
what's less obvious is that Luz was shown Vee because she said, out loud, "calm down Luz, count to *five* " !
another one is how Jacob said he was going to perform a "live dissection" this isn't a thing, by definition a dissection is on a dead subject, otherwise it's called a vivisection, something that someone with some science knowledge (like Camilla) would know, showing how Jacob is completely out of his element
When Alicia said "She just mom'd the fuck outta him" I smiled, knowing an even more "mamá" moment was coming.
Not gonna lie: when Camila pulled La Chancla™ out of her purse, I laughed for, like, 3 minutes straight. That's one of my favorite moments in the entire show, and I *love* that it was played straight.
With Gravesfield being founded in 1635, it's well within the time period of Eric Flint's Ring of Fire series
Fun fact. Vee and Amethyst from Steven Universe share the same voice actress.
Camilla is Uncle Iroh levels of GOATed
Oh this is where the anxiety road starts and it's gonna be something
If I disappeared and secretely got replaced by a fake me that does everything exactly the way my mother wants, she wouldn't care that I act different. She would be overjoyed that I finally became "normal".
One of my favorite episodes that isn’t a finale! Vee my precious
Do yall remember when part of the fandom HATED Camilla and called her an abusive mother for trying to send Luz away? Then some of them still hated her after this episode?
Seeing this episode just reminded me of them. I hope they've developed better comprehension skills.
Yes. Having children will be terrible. You're going to love every minute.
The dude from the statue is from the 1600s, not the museum guy
God this episode made me bawl my eyes out when I first watched it, and I started tearing up this time too. Such a good show.
This entire season is a gut wrencher, and the real heavy hitters start from here on out
You probably already got told this on Patreon but for those of us who watched as the show came out this was the last episode for MONTHS.
Hearing Sonic, the hedgehog go on a crazy rant is still hilarious to me
Ngl this conspiracy theorist guy seems like he'd fit right in as a side character in Inside Job XD
This episode made me cry the hardest i'd cried since finishing Bojack Horseman. Yes, that's a good thing
Hey, Alicia! Did you see the cardinal on the other Wittenbane’s shoulder? 😏
Those Chanclas Do DAMAGE! 🤣
Alicia will be a great mother...but she will break down sobbing the first time her baby farts.
i feel like this is one of the few cartoons that the parent isn't dead, neglectfully, or villainized.
And we all thought "Creepy Luz" was evil.
I won't spoil My Hero Academia, but I will say I'm as far as Season 3 episode 4.
As this first half of season 2 aired, Dana, Owl house creator, answered a 2 truths, 1 lie for what would happen:
1. A witch goes through puberty, Gus.
2. Hooty leaves the Owl house, episode 3.
3. Camila beats the sh#t out of someone.
I notice Attack on Titan in your outro, I have seen as far as Season 3 episode 16.
Oh, watch out, watch out! It's MAMA NOCEDA WITH THE FLIP FLOP! THIS MATCH IS OVER! [crowd cheering]
Yay! You've now met my favorite character
Oh yeah- Azula's VA as the fortune teller
If I remember right
It's babies all the way down
This kinda highlights the one thing I don't hate about Owl House. They make it seem like the normal human world is so horrible that Luz CANNOT function there and HAS to be in the Boiling Isles in order to thrive. I understand that it's supposed to represent Nero-divergent people, yet this feels like othering.
Camilla wasn't trying to send Luz to camp to control her, but to honestly help her. Not only did the show frame it so that this was treated as a bad decision, but they even went so far as to shame Camillia by villinizing the principle into a bully to the mother and having her think she was a villain for trying to send Luz away and not accepting Luz as she was. It feels wrong.
All because we are different doesn't mean we shouldn't be held accountable if we lose ourselves to our fantasies or impose them onto other people as a coping mechanizim. We work through them so we can thrive in society, not run away from it to a fictional world. I wish the show showed that but it decided "No. Reality sucks, Fantasy rules." I guess.
Sonic the conspiracy theorists
V for vendetta Was the last thing I expected to be referenced in a Disney show
You know a show is good when it's making Alicia cry more than when she watched FMA:B
this is gonna be good for me because i am also confused about the other brother...AND IVE SEEN THE WHOLE SHOW. idk what i missed but im excited for us both to find out
One thing easily missed is that the other brother has a bird sitting on his shoulder...
In this episode we learn that Luz isn't the only human who become lost in fantasy.
Camila is S tier Mom. ⭐️
Make sure to learn about the Evelyn theory when you are done watching the series
6 months. We had to wait 6 months for season 2b after this.
Even through it's faults The Owl House has been one of the best more intelligent series of the last 5 years. I'm still baffled at it's cancelation
oh btw there is an entire show about V that you might enjoy reacting to.
the difference is the dumb shit we say is for fun not for realizes or at least I chose to believe so.
If you look at it, Luz was a weird girl before she went to the other realm so Vee had it easy coz she could do anything weird in the human realm and noone would notice that its not luz, and also it looks like Vee adapted to the human realm easier because of the think inside the box camp
FYI, the conspiracy theorist dude is voiced by the current Sonic VA (in the games and shows, not the movies)
Beware, The Chancla!
I'd like to see your reactions to Amphibia (and also it's TOH's sister show so yeah) does anyone else wants to see their reactions to Amphibia too if you do pls response by either giving a like or a reply to this comment. Pls the Amphibia Fans out here engage
15:59 she's saying he's us, but no, its YOUUUU /joking
I think I remember hearing that at the curator was originally supposed to be a descendant of one of the brothers (Phillip), however they decided to change that.
❤
Vee is fantastic.
👍
Camila is a really great mom
Though, the Normal Camp reminds me a bit too much of those offshore ultra-Christian rehabilitation youth camps that essentially get hired to kidnap and isolate and brainwash kids for me to really forgive her for sensing Luz off to there simply because people didn’t like how weird her daughter is. Probably more healthy avenues of approach to have Luz tone herself down
It's just a summer camp to try to teach responsibility. Nothing close to that bad
Anyone know when she’s gonna watch RWBY next?
So anyway in MHA...
Jokes aside MHA is ending and it's been a wild ride. I need to catch up on your reactions to the series.
Azula?
