The best thing about the 80s is that every musical style for every persons taste was all exploding, all at the same time. Metallica and skinny puppy for example debuted in the early 80s.

About 13 when this came out. I loved the backbeats from these Brits. The Brits knew how to take American Rock and Roll and in many cases, take it a step above. My trip to Ireland and Great Britain enlightetened me. I love The English! From a 50 year old American Boy from California.
I totally share your point of view. This music was totally amazing for teenagers like us. Especially the way bands were creating songs and melodies boosted by emergence of synthetizers and beat box. English bands were my favorite too ! From a 50 years old frenchman ;-)

Sorry about the 80s Brits weren't into American Rock and Roll, they were into American R&B (just like the Brits from the 60s were into American Blues). Ever heard of Northern Soul. Human League are from Sheffield and are a product of Northern Soul. As for this song, it is an homage to Sly and The Family Stone. The "Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey" part and different male/female lead voices are straight from them...

This song is 80’s perfection. You have the awesome deep lead vocals, catchy harmonies and chorus of the women, great backing vocals, and super catchy synthesizer riffs. The contrast of the men and women vocals is so good and the band is so effortlessly stylish and cool. I miss the 80’s so much, it had the best music and videos.
Who else grew up to MTV and remembers the classic mtv rocket ship launching and the guitar theme. The best time. Headbangers ball used to come on at midnight on Friday!
Kendra Miller when I was 14 my aunt painted her house orange and I said it's just like the human league fascination video, with my cousin and I playing football in the garden. But the amount of complaints from drivers saying they nearly crashed because they got distracted but no one got hurt
Haven't heard this since junior high and MTV was thee social media early 80's... but woke up today and my favorite part was playing in my head "and so the conversation turned, UNTIL THE SUN WENT DOWN" 🌅🌄 Lmbo I didn't even know the words about the convo... just that flow was everything and still flows 40+ years later. Dats good music friends 🎵 🎶
The story of how he found these 2 girls is amazing. He wants to get female backup singer for his tour opening in a few days. He goes to a club and sees these two 17 year old girls dancing snd next thing you know they are on tour.
I'm 70. This song (unexpectedly) was running through my head. I started dancing in this little room I inhabit. So then I sat down, googled the title, which brought me to here and this video. And after listening (and for the first time ever seeing the video) I'm going to replay it. And haha, I don't know if my old ass will get up to Uncle Willie across the floor; I'll probably just rock in my chair.
Obviously you’re were yet born when it first came out....No band from this era that had tons of hits....just a hit or miss setup - they might have one or 2 more hits IF that
This takes me back to junior high in the ‘80’s. The cheerleaders would be blasting this song during their practice just outside the gym while our wrestling coach had us running laps through the school hallways. Good times💪🏻
I'm 50 myself and I grew up in the 80's and I loved that era of music. It was the greatest time to grow up in with so many different styles of music going on in that decade which was truly amazing with so many great artists, groups and songs. Definitely Human League defined the new wave era with this song "Fascination" and of course "Don't you want me" every time I hear these songs I remember the good times of the 80's it was a fun era to live in and I miss those times very much!
I remember the first time I heard this song. It was the summer of 1983, and I was just a young,14 year old girl. I turned 15 that August. My Mom and Dad and I had brought some of my cousins with us on a trip to Disneyland. I remember that night in Disneyland, we had stopped to eat at one of the restaurants that had an outdoor dining area. Right across from where we were was this place where they had live music and dancing, and there was a rock band performing. I don't know the name of the band, but I know it wasn't Human League. It was a local band, I'm pretty sure. One of the songs they played was "Keep Feeling Fascination." I had never heard the song until then, and sometime later, I found out it was by Human League. I absolutely loved the song when I heard it for the first time that night, and it's still a favorite to this day. Everytime I hear it, it brings back memories of that night in Disneyland. The 80's was a fun time to be a teenager.
Yes you are so right on that. The 1980s was truly a great time to being a teenager. Those were the days for me it junior and high school. The music, movies, parties, summer time. You name it the 80s was clearly one of the best decades ever period.
I originally thought the location would be a part of Sheffield (the brief shot reminded me of an area near the old university). But it's actually the corner of First Avenue/Third Avenue, Newham in London. No CGI back then, it's a real big orange dot! The whole area was about to be demolished in mid '83 and redeveloped over the next few years, so it stayed painted for weeks after. A family still lived on the corner there at the time of the video (not in the grey windowless room where the band was). I wonder if the director paid the people affected to have it painted?! Anyway, that's my erm... fascination for the history of this video.
Always one of my favorite songs and videos. The video, and song for that matter are so charismatically peculiar with a distinct European flavor. I miss the 80s. My most fun decade by far. Hey I was in my 20s. 😊

I discovered this band and this song as a pre-teen in the early 90's. I had heard "Don't You Want Me" & "Human", and those were alright. But once I heard this they won me over. Their greatest hits cassette ended up being the first album I ever bought. Been a huge fan ever since.
The Human League are just the tip of the 80's gold mine iceberg! Formed at the same time as the League check out Poeme Electronique - Echoes Fade & their modern incarnation Twins Natalia also influenced by 80's electro pop look up anything by Marsheaux.
The commercials for albums from this era would come on all of the time when I was a kid. Every time my Grandpa would leave for Oklahoma, my step-grandma used to always tell me that they were just a phone call away. I used to cry myself to sleep when they left and when I woke up I heard exactly this song on the commercials. Right when the commercial was over I got the phone call from my step-grandma telling me that they made it back to Oklahoma safely. Re-listening to this really takes me over twenty years back to living in the Westgate apartments and waiting for the phone call to talk to my grandparents again... Such a surreal and sad feeling to listen to it at thirty again for the first time in decades and.. knowing that.. I won't be getting the call from the either of them again but in a way this song encapsulates the memories with them.. and I revisit the laughs I shared with them in the time we shared together... Thank you for uploading this
I've always loved this song. I remember when I was little, around 1983, when this would have been playing on the radio. I had a friend over, and I asked him something like, "Isn't this a great song?" He said he didn't like it because it mentioned "learning," LOL! I kind of understood but was a bit disappointed.
Back in the day we all had energy like this. I was 6 feet tall when I graduated in 1990, and I would have gladly challenged a grizzly bear to a slap fight, and after that a slap fight. I do not know why we all are so very soft and lazy now.
This song will forever remind me of the first day of 6th grade. I woke up that morning to this song playing on my alarm clock radio. I was soo excited to be going into middle school. The year was 1984. I had no idea some of the best years of my life lie ahead ❤
Yeah, I agree that '83 was the peak of the decade musically. Lots of good music throughout the '80s, no doubt, but that year always really stood out to me, too.
Somehow back in the 80s I missed this video on MTV, so I've gone over 30 years hearing this song and having no idea what this band looked like. Now I know...

In 1983, this group was one of my favorite ones when I was living in the San Francisco bay area as a young 26 y/o sailor stationed on the USS Enterprise CVN-65 at Alameda NAS in the city of Alameda California.
Summer of 83...recovering from surgery. Lying in a lawnchair in the back yard wearing a bikini (trying to fade the scar) with the radio going full blast. So long ago now!

The English love you too. Mr American boy.

1980-1986 were some of the best years in music. The English really came back in that second wave and showed us how it’s done again.

Well, ya can't get much more "'80's" than this.
Yup.......
I've watched this video a hundred times and I've only just noticed that Phil's wearing lipstick! Don't get me wrong it suits him it's just funny how unobservant I can be
This song is 80’s perfection.

Happy 40th Birthday to the happiest song of 1983 🙂
I'm 50 myself and I grew up in the 80's and I loved that era of music.
One of my fav things about the 80's. I love that guy's super deep voice. And the BASS.
Omg right! Phil's voice sexy as hell! 😍
Tunes are the pins that transfix the butterflies of nostalgic memories.
Yes you are so right on that. The 1980s was truly a great time to being a teenager. Those were the days for me it junior and high school. The music, movies, parties, summer time. You name it the 80s was clearly one of the best decades ever period.
To add....I can't think of anything being better than growing up as a teenager in Orange County, Ca in the 80's. We were truly blessed.
That's a cool memory!
Gawd what a good, VERY detailed memory!
Such a fun song!!! Oh, I so much miss those days.
Interesting thanks for that!
So original. I can't think of any other song that sounds anything like it.
The closest I can get is Come Dancing by the Kinks ('83) but it really is a unique sound.
Oh believe me, you won't. Not in this rotten generation.
Some people think Obsession sounds similar.
