This 80’s Masterpiece by Tears For Fears will forever be one of the greatest songs of all time.❤
Agreed, and my favorite music is late 60's and 70's (born during the Eisenhower Administration). That said, Tears for Fears was (and still is) my favorite group. I play their tracks over and over again...

One of my favs. Raised my 29 year old on rhis music and she has passed it along to her friends.

Tears For Fears need to get inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame. One of the most underrated, under-appreciated, overlooked groups of our time. Their music is mood-setting, spine-tingling, heart-wrenching, and thought-provoking. Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith are a phenomenal duo! I can never get enough of TFF!
Agreed!! They were and still so good!! Their songs do something special to my thoughts!! The melodies and the song writings were amazing.. on a whole different level!! They were ahead of themselves. UK artist and bands stick it to US artist and bands.

I can’t like this comment enough.
Tru dat
This is their wonderfully awkward love song. "Something happens" is passive voice. The songwriting here is genius. This describes anxiety, fear, and some anger so well and efficiently. It's the love song for people who aren't players nor have any game.

"Head Over Heels"
I wanted to be with you alone
And talk about the weather
But traditions I can trace
Against the child in your face
Won't escape my attention
You keep your distance with a system of touch
And gentle persuasion
I'm lost in admiration
Could I need you this much?
Oh, you're wasting my time
You're just-, just-, just wasting time
Something happens
And I'm head over heels
I never find out
'Til I'm head over heels
Something happens
And I'm head over heels
Ah, don't take my heart, don't break my heart
Don't-, don't-, don't throw it away
Throw it away
Throw it away
I made a fire, and watching it burn
Yeah, thought of your future
With one foot in the past
Now, just how long will it last?
Now, now, now, have you no ambitions?
(Mm, what's the matter with my)
My mother and my brothers used to breathe in clean air
(Nothing ever changes when you're acting your age)
And dreaming I'm a doctor
(Nothing gets done when you feel like a baby)
It's hard to be a man when there's a gun in your hand
(Nothing ever changes when you're acting your age)

I miss that video quality. I grew up watching tv with those. Good ol days
You don't hear lyrics like "I wanted to be with you alone, and talk about the weather" in pop songs anymore.
The whole song is very unique lyrically. Honestly I'd love to hear some interpretations, because it's rather oblique to me, particularly the second verse, and what's the significance of the 🍀?
Whatever it means, it's brilliant poetry. They seem to favour imagery over direct meaning in their lyrics, kinda similar to bands like early R.E.M. and Live (at least, 90s Live), among others.
@@zonesquestiloveunderworld "Head Over Heels" by Tears for Fears is a song that delves into the complexities of love and emotional vulnerability. The lyrics portray a deep infatuation or love that the narrator feels towards someone, possibly reflecting on the whirlwind of emotions that accompany falling deeply in love, where one might feel both elated and vulnerable.
The line "And this is my four leaf clover" suggests a sense of hoping for good luck or cherishing a rare find in the context of love. It's like stumbling upon something uniquely special and holding onto it as a symbol of fortune and happiness.
The song's title, "Head Over Heels," itself is a common idiom that describes being completely enamored or in love with someone, to the point where you're almost metaphorically 'upside down' with emotion. This intense emotional state can lead to a sense of disorientation, mirroring the chaos and unpredictability of love.
Throughout the song, there's also a sense of longing and a desire to connect deeply with the object of affection, coupled with the fear of unrequited feelings or the potential for heartbreak. The music and lyrics together create a powerful emotional landscape that resonates with listeners, capturing the universal experience of falling head over heels in love, with all its complexities, hopes, and fears.
I have often said this is my favorite line of any song. Great minds think alike!
Yeah
I get 'Head over Heels' all the time!
And I'm 69 yrs!!
Im 50 now and the 80s is like some wondrous dream I woke up from early and wish I could fall asleep and return to. I know the worlds needed to move on in the decades since, and not everyone sees it through rose colored glasses, but what an absolutely magical time. It was all like some dream. Im glad I had it when I was young enough to enjoy it just the way I did. But I miss that time as though I miss a loved one who's irreplaceable and long gone.
You nailed it!
I so understand this comment, I’m 51 and I am still in love with my 80s youth, and you can’t explain that to someone who wasn’t there….my husband is ten years younger than me and he just doesn’t get it. The music was INCREDIBLE and even today so much of it stands the test of time.
This is the best description I’ve ever read of the 80’s music period. I’m 46.
I hear you. 70's still my favorite, but damn it TFF was one of the best.
If time would have just stood still in those magical times. I am 60 now, but I look back on the 80's as the time I really grew up. I graduated high school in '79, but I had the best years of my life in the 80's! I think back on those years with such a variety of emotions. Sometimes this music brings me back to that time in my life and I feel so sad that those times are gone. Some of the people are gone forever, some are still around, but we've all moved on and hopefully look back fondly on these memories. I miss those days...best years of my life!
Roland and Curt have such unique voices. No one ever mistakes them for another band.
Back in the day, Curt Smith seemed to get a bit more publicity as the "lead" in Tears For Fears, but I have always thought that Roland Orzabal is both the more talented musician and the better singer. This is not to take anything away from Smith, but in modern performances the mild deterioration of Orzabal's voice - which is obviously understandable - noticeably reduces the richness of the band's vocals. I think it is amazing that they still perform with the quality that they do, but Orzabal's voice had an unmistakable resonance that simply can't be replaced.

This video is such a great way to tell the story about the lyrics of this song- how embarrassing and how vulnerable you can be when you admit to someone you’re falling for them and not knowing how they’ll react to it. Music videos from this time were really something amazing

The more I listen to this song, the more things of interest I'm finding. Simply a masterpiece.

Same...I had no idea one of the lines was, "Traditions I can trace against the child in your face"...gives me goosebumps how pure it that line is!!
@@nirajshah5411i wonder what the part of the video with the jewish guy meant
Yes I agree awesome group I remember in 1985, when I was 18
One of the most beautiful and melodic pop tunes ever. The Brits just kick ass with their music.
True. Nobody does music like the British.
FACTS
and TFF was among the greatest of them
I just came from listening to some great American music. You guys aren't too shabby.
My 80s goose bumps have come back, anyone want a taxi back im paying
You literally could write an 80s movie now and use most of their songs ad it would feel soooo authentic. Love them! ♥️
This is one hell of a good song!
There’s an ambitious innocence to the 80s that I don’t think we’ll ever see again. I miss it a lot.
I wasn’t there but I can listen to this and feel like I was. The pure magical innocence 😭😭😭
Facts
@@mel_va_ ALWAYS!! My friend think I’m so strange that I can listen to this at anytime of the day. Hey their loss of beautiful nostalgia
Absolutely
Innocence? What about hardcore punk, metal that turned into sex crazed hair bands? The grinding depression of goth, nuclear war protest (and that's all just the music). Get grounded friend. Nothing innocent about the 80s.
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. Every time I hear it, it makes my heart swoon.
It’s a reminder of much better & happier times
@@tenrgn You stole the words out of my mouth. The 80's: you cannot explain it to anyone who never had the experience. This song is also one of my all time favourites.
Yea music video is cute as well.
Me, too. ❤️🥰❤️
Mine 2. 💚👑💪🏻
What a wonderful powerful voice that dude has
An absolute classic....i used to be so proud that they were from Bath also!!! But they have got that rare ability to be able to write perfect pop songs whilst still being original and different to anybody else out there, love them, used to see Roland driving around landsdown quite a bit
This is one of my "Go To" songs when I am depressed. The music and melody helps to sooth my soul. I absolutely love them!
The song uses the so-called Lydian scale, which has the effect of being heavenly and spiritually uplifting
Same here.. also when I'm going deep into cardio
What are your other Go-To songs for depression, amigo? Two of mine are The Fear by Lily Allen and Love Me Like You Do by Ellie Goulding.
@@williamfoy599 I like Billy Idol Eyes Without a Face. It's like driving home at night after getting fired from a job...kind of feeling.
@@mountainman8775 Wow interesting. Any other songs you would recommend? It would be helpful to get rid of my dark thoughts.
1980s best decade for music for gems like this
It truly was ! I remember so many classics from the 80 's this is one of those songs I heard then and just never forgot !
The 80 has the best and worst music imo. Classics like this then snooker loopy and star trekking
I didn’t like it as a 20-year-old but man that I grow to like it now that I’m 57
Absolutely correct
Eles são incríveis: ua-cam.com/video/T6AzAyYFIFg/v-deo.html
Thank you for sharing
There is nothing like 80’s music 😊😊
Roland's vocals are unique and epitomize the 80's!
This band was my soundtrack as a child growing up through that entire decade! Magical time never forgotten! 🎹
Funny how time flies...
Yes, it does. The whole sound is my 80s childhood!
Roland’s vocals are beyond’s perfect. He’s sooooo cute!
Ditto here. But instead of just my childhood, Tears for Fears has brought me through my life. It is so ironic that each song performed by this band has always carried me into my life at just the right time when each song was released.
Music that speaks to the soul
Absolutely Spectacular
Cheers
He has such a unique voice, his voice is so majestic
In my opinion Tears For Fears greatest song. And one of my favorite songs. I love all kinds of music and I’m a big metal/thrash metal and punk guy but this has always been one of my favorites. It’s so well written. Not overly complicated at all but artistically put together so perfectly. Such nostalgic feelings every time I listen to it.
Funny enough, I would have never considered anything relating to 80s synth pop would be something I enjoy, but I love this song and pretty much any song by TFF. Thank God someone was making good music around that time.
Perfectly put Chris,I love all types of music, metal, punk, indie, ska,& this song is a masterpiece in every sense mate.
It’s between this and Working Hour.
This is your....🍀...funny how🕰🪰's
Absolutely agree. It takes me back in time.
I never get tired of this song. Definitely on my top ten. Never realized how hot the keyboardist was!
kkk mdss
Ian is indeed really, really hot too
Yeah he's sexy😍😍😍😍
yeah she let HIM play with her keyboard!!!! lol
He's Beautiful!
This song. Just perfection. So much beauty and creativity. Almost unseen on this level since the beginning of this millennium.
A Voice Like That, Was Just Sent By God!! No Doubt!! I Love "Roland Orzabal" Singing, Really Amazing! His Beauty and His Voice!! 🤎💖🤎💖❣️
1980 people: The future will be awesome!
2022 people: I want to go back to the 80s.
LoL 👍
Literally
Yea
I'd also be ok with the 90s, that would also be fine
Absolutly right. 😃😃😃😃👍👍👍
The La La La La La part is absolutely perfect. It makes you feel wonderful singing it out loud
I feel it goes on just a little to long. Other then that, a perfect song.
A me piace molto quel punto....fa sentire tutto il calore e l'atmosfera degli anni 80
I first saw TfT Live in the early 90s at Olympia in London. It was around the time Sewing the Seeds was all the rage... When they played Head over Heals, they let the 'La La La Laaa Laaa' .. part go on & on with an Audience of thousands joining in .. it was magical and emotional! :-)
It always reminded me of the Beatles Hey Jude with its Naaaaa Na Na NaNaNaNa....NaNaNaNa Heyyy Juuude.
Only the 80’s will be forever epic in Music ❤️❤️
Dear, Whoever is reading this,we don’t know each other and there is a strong possibility we will never meet , but I wish nothing but the best and happiness for you ❤️👍🏿
Thank you !❤ I wish you all the best in life !!
Thanks you too 🎉
this is possibly some of the first music I ever heard. My parents went to a tears for fears concert when my mom was pregnant with me, and according to her, this was the first song they played and she could feel me kicking to the rhythm. Fan from day 0!
That's adorable !!
How cool to know ❤️
👍💯😜😎
Love it...lol
That is a great story. You must be 30 plus now. Your parents in their 50s the same as me.
Hands down on of the best songs ever made, written, lyrically and musically.
The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost.
It's a masterpiece.
best songs ever made,,,u on heroin ?
@@BettinaBalser masterpiece baaaahahaha
@@madisonlisa5111 you are crazy and bad man.
Imagine being 14 when this song released.
I was.
These guys made some absolute belters. I’ll never tire of hearing them x
I don't think most people truly understand how amazing this song is. So well written.
Thomas Shepherd I agree with you! It’s one of those rare songs that get inside you-great arrangement, great melody, good lyrics and he sings it superbly ❤️
I had the pleasure of discovering TFF with "Pale Shelter" years before they became popular...I think they are incapable of writing bad songs.
It's perfect
I understand exactly what you mean
Thomas Shepherd: I don't think people truly understand how amazing Tears for Fears is in regards to a genre that speaks from the heart! Listen to the words "Everybody want to rule the world"............................Awesome! Love these guys!
The guy on the synth is fucking legend. Just drops a badass solo, yells YEAH, then leaves.
